EP019: I Sacrificed Tacos For This!!
27 Feb 2019 · 15 min
Hannah Keeley skipped tacos at a conference to sit with eight-figure earners instead. She uses the Jacob and Esau story to argue that chasing immediate comfort costs you long-term growth, and urges listeners to prioritize spiritual hunger and purposeful investment in themselves.

Hey, Hannah here. And I need to share something that happened to me that really kind of shocked me. And I would have done this 10 years ago, maybe I would have. I wouldn't have done this 15 years ago, but I did it this past weekend and I sacrificed tacos. Tacos now for this one thing. And kind of shocked me. But I'm wondering, would you do the same thing? Here's the big question. How are these average, everyday moms getting radical results in their lives? How are they able to transform their health, money, families, homes, and have fun doing it? The trick. We're not average. I'm Hannah Keeley and I'm going to spill our secrets and answer your questions right now in that mom show. So here's what happened. I was at a conference and I was so grateful that in that conference they offered the, this, this event, okay? It was called a roundtable event. And what they did was they got like, I don't know, like, 35 people who have earned over $10 million in all different areas, okay, all different kinds of businesses to sit at like 35 different round tables. And they were having dinner that night. And what you could do is have dinner and have a seat at one of the round tables to ask them any question you wanted to ask them, okay? So get this in your head. 35 people who have earned over eight figures. All right? Over eight figures. Each one sitting at a table ready and willing to answer any question that you have about how they got to where they are today. And at the same time, tacos. Like, I couldn't ask for a better combination, right? Personal development and tacos. Yeah, I know, it's like a dream come true. So here's what happened. We all walked in. There's like thousands of people there, okay? It wasn't a small conference. There were thousands of people. And we walked in and the, the overwhelming majority of people were moving over to the left to, to the left is where they were serving tacos. But a very small number of people were moving to the right that was going into this huge banquet room where they had all the round tables. And I was just totally shocked because the, the, the table, the room that had all the round tables in it, it wasn't that crowded. Not at first. I wasn't that crowded. And I was shocked. Like, wait, like, here we have eight figure earners ready to give you their secret, secret tips and strategies. Here we have tacos, okay? Secret tips and strategies to earn eight figures. Tacos. Are you, are you seeing the picture here? Like, it was divided but the huge majority of people were congested and crowded and moving toward the tacos. I get it, they're tacos. But hold up. Inside this banquet room, this huge banquet room, were strategies that you could employ to get to eight figures. And I could not believe that I was in the minority. And I thought, well, 15 years ago, I think I would have probably gone toward the tacos. Maybe 10 years ago. No way. Now, oh, heck no. I would gladly sacrifice the tacos, because what I want to get is information, strategies, and wisdom that will help me develop as a person, as a business owner, as a mom, as a minister, as a child of God. Like, I. That's what I crave. Like, yeah, tacos are awesome. You can't be tacos. But when it comes to this type of personal development, hands down, tacos cannot even hold a candle to it. And I was thinking back about Jacob and Esau. So here's. They were two brothers and twin brothers. And Jacob was inside, and he had been doing, like, his inside work or whatever that is. Esau had been out hunting all day. They were both. They both. Jacob was the oldest, technically, because he came out first. And so. No, no, I'm sorry. Esau technically was the firstborn. Okay, he came out first. So even though they were twins, Esau was the firstborn. And so he had the inheritance back then, in biblical times, he would have the bulk of the inheritance from his father. Okay, are you following me now? So when Esau came home, When Esau came home, Jacob had been doing his inside work and he had made a lentil stew. Not even tacos, lentil stew. Jacob came home and he was so hungry because he had been out hunting all day and he was so hungry, he said, jacob, oh my gosh, I'm so hungry, dude, I'm starving here. Please give me some of that lentil soup. And Jacob said, oh, I'll give you some lentil soup if you'll give me your birthright. And Esau, like an idiot, said, yes. Hey, mama. We'll get right back to the podcast, but did you know there is an entire online university just for moms? If you're ready to get radical results in your life, just go to mommastery.com that's M O M M A S T R Y dot com. Make sure you check it out and take your free quiz again. That's mommastery.com M O M M A S T-R-Y.com now back to the podcast. That's what happens when you respond to your cravings and when you respond with the flesh and not with the spirit, when you respond to your cravings and you don't respond to, to your hunger, which is you should be hungering and thirsty after righteousness. Esau made a stupid decision based upon a moment of influence. In that moment, he was starving, he was craving. He thought he was going to die. He was emotional. I'm so tired. I've been hunting all day. I'm so freaking hungry. He was just having a craving. He was having a moment. He gave in. He sold his birthright, not even for tacos. He sold his birthright for a stinkin bowl of lentil soup. Y', all, I make lentil soup all the time. I gotta force my kids to eat it. It doesn't compare with tacos. But here's the deal. When you make momentary decisions based upon your cravings, based upon the flesh, you're always gonna be with the majority. You're going to be stuck in the mosh pit and you're going to not grow anywhere further towards your goals where, where you want to go. But when you use wisdom. My dog's all over the place. When you use. By the way, I'm outside by the pond. So if you're listening to, if you can hear like ducks and stuff, yeah, those aren't my kids, those are actual ducks. Because I'm sitting on the dock outside my house and by the lake, the kids are jumping on the trampoline and the dogs running all around. So that's what's going on right here. And so you'll probably hear that. So when you make that moment decision based upon your cravings, based upon the flesh, you're always going to go backward. God always has a way to get you where you want to go. He always has a way to fulfill his anointing over you. He has designed you to prosper. He has designed you. His plans for you are good and pleasing and prosperous. It's his will that you live in abundance. But he's not going to force you to it. He's not going to say no. Go in that room, cling to your birthright. Get the wisdom he puts before you life and death. You can choose tacos, you can choose lentil soup, you can choose a Diet Coke. You can choose whatever you want. But when you're responding to the craving and not to the hunger and thirst after righteousness, you're always going backwards. And you're always going to get stuck with the crowd. Not like the cool crowd either. The hot, sweaty, gross mosh pit Disney World line crowd. That's the kind of crowd I'm talking about. There is another small, small percentage of people who are making the decision to hunger and thirst after righteousness. Who, when God places an open door before them, they're willing to say no to the flesh and say yes to spirit and say, I want the wisdom. I want the lesson here. God, I want to take a step further toward the, toward the plan that you have for me to prosper me, to give me abundance. You can sacrifice the tacos, you can say no to the lentil soup. Don't sell your birthright for a temporary craving. That's what so many people do. I was truly shocked. And I'm asking you, this is a question, what would you do? Because I truly believe every day God gives us an opportunity and usually it doesn't look like something our flesh wants to do. It may be to make an investment in yourself. It may be to choose to travel when you don't like to travel to get the wisdom you need. It may look like saying no to hanging out with this friend. So yes, you can hang out with this mentor. That's what it usually looks like. He will always give you an opportunity every day to satisfy a craving or to satisfy your hunger that will fuel you toward your dreams. So I just want to put that before you today because I think a lot of us, it's easy to gripe and complain and you know, you know, after Esau ate that bowl of soup and did a big old long belt and scratched his belly a little bit and he thought, well, dang, that was stupid. You know, he probably did. And I'm thinking all those people that were hoarding over there because they had to have their tacos when they walked into that room and they saw me sitting at the front of that table getting wisdom from someone who was a eight figure or more or more earner and there was no room for them to sit around there and pick their brain, they were like, well, darn it, guess I'll just scratch my belly some more and head up to the hotel room. And probably they complained about it. Well, they should have put more seats there. They should have made more room. They should have gotten more people so I could have had my tacos and get my free advice. What, what else do you want? What else do you want? God's not going to say, here, here, I put before you life and death. Pick any door because you can get the other door later. That's not how it is. You make a choice and chances are if you're going toward the craving, you're going to regret it because you're not going to get the knowledge, the wisdom to get you to that level that you yearn for deep in your soul. So I'm asking you every day, go into the day said, you know what? I'm going to be tempted with tacos. I'm going to, I'm going to have that smell, a lentil soup coming at me. What is going to be my choice ahead of time? Anyone can tell you who's ever been on any type of diet. You have to plan it out ahead of time or else you're going to screw up. So what I'm telling you, plan out your spiritual diet ahead of time. In the morning, decide you know what I might be tempted to do. Xyz. But here's my plan today. This is how I'm going to invest in myself. This is how I'm going to grow more toward my dream. This is how I, I'm going to get my birthright. That's what I'm talking about. So I just, I want to encourage you today to make the right choice. Go ahead and sacrifice the tacos because when you're earning eight figures, baby, you can buy all the tacos you want and a bowl of lentil soup for the road. I love you guys. I got your back.
