Lockdowns to Faith with special guest Lindsey Graham, The Patriot Barbie
20 Feb 2025 · 32 min
In this interview, host Hannah Keeley (with producer Speaker A) talks with Lindsey Graham, known as the "Patriot Barbie," about her dramatic transformation over the past four years. Graham recounts how she defied 2020 COVID‑19 lockdowns by reopening her Oregon salon, which led to government threats, cancel‑culture attacks, loss of six businesses, and a forced move to Arizona. The crisis sparked a deepening Christian faith, culminating in a 2021 book that reframes her identity from a "boss babe" to a Christ‑centered mother, wife, activist, and author. She describes the financial hardships, the feeling of being "broke," and the eventual provision she attributes to divine intervention, including a new business opportunity that restored financial stability. Graham discusses her ongoing activism, especially pro‑life work, and the challenges of balancing purpose with financial security. She shares practical advice for mothers on raising godly children in a secular world, emphasizing exposure to Christian media, worship music, and intentional parenting. Throughout, she reflects on identity, purpose, the importance of asking God for needs, and the joy of returning to podcasting and speaking engagements. The conversation blends personal testimony, faith reflections, entrepreneurial struggles, and practical motherhood guidance.

That's right. Oh, good. I'm, like, super glorifying God, right?

Well, I've read your book.
I mean, guys, if you haven't gotten. The book is targeted. It's her story. And it's funny because when. When I got literally making dinner and I opened up and started reading it, and I burned what I was cooking because I was so engrossed in the story. So you owe me a dinner. So I'll either go there.
You come here. Deepest apologies. Yeah. That is, like, the best quote ever. It could be like, oh, it was a great read. Edge of my seat. But it's like I burned my dinner. I couldn't stop reading.
Couldn't stop reading it. I was engrossed in standing in the kitchen. Burn my dinner. Yeah, it was that good.

When. When I wrote that book, I had never written a book before in my life. I had actually already defied government lockdowns in 2020, which is really what, like, spiraled my life in. Into what it is now. Thank you, Jesus. Yes, I was.
Now, at the time, you couldn't say thank you, Jesus.
No, at the time, I was like, what the heck, Jesus?
Right, right, right. That's what we have, you know, some of the greatest stories coming out of that place.
Yeah.
You're like, this doesn't make sense. This doesn't line up. This isn't your word. Like, what? He's leading us to something. And you could literally say, thank you, Jesus for that. Now.
Later. Later. Much later.
Later.
So I was a lukewarm Christian back in Oregon prior to 2020. Not into politics, like, just kind of minding my own business. Right. So skating through life. And when the lockdowns came, I had six businesses and we were, like, going bankrupt, paying the rent on our businesses and, you know, can't pay our house payment, whatever. Stay home, stay safe. And I was like, this doesn't make sense. The government thinks they can control, like, an unseen virus. I gotta work. Like, we gotta work. So I opened my salon against lockdowns. And I didn't think it would be that big a deal. I honestly, like, when I say I was, like, not politically awake, that is what I meant. I did not think that the country would be divided by that decision. I thought everyone would agree like, the government shouldn't be locking us down. We have a right to work.
Common sense.
Yeah. So. Yeah. Which some people don't have. So I opened up. The story went viral. The government literally put a target on my back. They threatened to kick me out of my building, give me $50,000 a day fines, throw me in jail, take my three children away with CPS. The story went crazy. And I can't believe how God just like, like laid it on my heart to do this. And I was the most unexpected person and then made like a complete, like life story out of it. But I, I continued to resist the threats of the government. And for reasons I can't explain, like, if someone comes to you and says, we're going to throw you in jail if you stay open. And I'm like, let's go. Go for it. It just was like this anointed, like bluff calling ability. This has never been done in history. I don't think you have precedent here. And so anyway, long story short, overnight I became like this conservative activist, unbeknownst to me.
Right, Right.
And I got completely canceled in Oregon. So if people don't know what canceled is, it is. You're a murderer. You're a far right wing extremist, you're a racist, you're a white supremacist. I got death threats. My kids got death threats. All of my stylists walked out on me because they were getting death threats. I ended up actually losing all six businesses due to cancel culture. Like, not the government cancel culture who bankrupted my companies. Like, we couldn't survive in Oregon now. We had just put a hundred thousand dollars into my salon. We had just built a custom home on property that was like our dream. I had just bought a new SUV because I had my third baby March 6th. So, like life was like perfect. Honestly, right before all of this, we were settled. We were like, all right, it's smooth sailing from here on out. My salon had 25 girls. And then this happened. And it took everything from us. Like, worldly, worldly. We lost our home. We had to. We didn't lose it. We had to sell it and leave Oregon. We were like, I was not safe there. I was worried. I was scared for my life. I didn't feel like I was welcome anywhere. Like, my kids were always going to be tormented. The businesses were lost. Like, there was no way to be successful. We had to sell or close all of our businesses. And so we up, we up and came to Arizona. And the reason we came to Arizona is we Both had family here already, so we're like, let's just get out of here. You know, started over, full life identity crisis. Like, who am I now? I was like, this boss babe in Oregon. I had all these companies. Now I'm like, I'm stay at home, mom. I have no money. We have no job. I have no, like, promise of a job. Am I going to go work a 9 to 5 again? Like, this is crazy. And in that process, I really did, like, struggle with what is God doing? And. And, like, again, lukewarm Christian. So I was not by default, like, all right, Lord, I don't know what you're doing here, but I'm so here for it, you know, I'm so here, and I trust you.
I'm on a faith journey. And, like, no, I don't. I don't want to hear that right now.
I don't have a job. Yeah, this sucks. This really sucks. And even when you have faith in God, it's okay if something sucks, right?
Right.
I did have faith that he was doing something. This is what triggered my extreme Christianity is being able to identify the God that I was raised to believe in and be able to say, I've lost my dream house, I've lost my dream salon. I've lost all of our businesses. We have to leave the home that we've only ever known and be unsecure financially and, like, mentally and whatever. But I believe that you have something better. And I don't know what it is, and I'm still insecure about that. And I'm. I'm worried and I'm stressed, and this is not fun, but I do trust you. And that is what really, like, that is what. That is what got me through what normal people would be like, this is complete nutter devastation. I'm just going to go back to my life and, like, try to figure it out.
Right, right, right.
So in this identity crisis, God called me through four different people to write my book. And I was like, okay. My world brain was like, oh, this is it. I'm gonna write a book. It's gonna be a bestseller. Like, I'll be back, you know, Like, I'll make money on it. You don't make money writing books.
Just 100%. Absolutely.
I. I can.
You.
You write a book.
I really support that.
Yeah, you write a book so that you can say, I wrote a book.
I wrote a book. Right, right. You can leverage a book, but you're not making money off the book.
Yeah, I give my book out to homeless people. I'm like, you need hope. Here you go.
Yeah.
But what really happened was when I sat down and wrote the book, and I didn't ghost right it. Like, I wrote it on this laptop right here. I was able to identify that my identity was in Christ, and that my identity had nothing to do with, quote, being a boss babe or how much money I made or how popular I was in the city, that I had a salon, like, the nicest salon, you know, I realized that in reopening my salon against mandates, God, like, already had that written for me, and I just fell into it. Thank God, because he, in a way, laid it on my heart without me really knowing. And everything that I had done in my life led up to, and was leading up to whatever he's doing right now. And I wrote the book in 2021. So I'm going to say right now is in 2021. That's when I realized. I don't know. I don't know why you did what you did in Oregon. I don't know why you put this on me. I don't. I don't know what is going to happen because of it. But I do know that you've been preparing me for it my whole life. I know that it was your plan whether I knew it or not. And I do trust that if it's your plan, it's going to be better for me than anything I'd ever thought I had in Oregon.
Right.
And now it's 2025, and I can seriously say, thank you, Jesus.
Yeah.
And look back and. And. And recognize that my life now has. Is so much more blessed. There is so much more freedom, and there. There really is more value in. In my identity at home as a mom, my identity as a wife, my identity as somebody who spreads the gospel and doesn't shy away from talking about Jesus or what I believe politically, because what I believe politically is based biblically. Right. And I. I just am a totally different person and not in, like, the sense of I'm unrecognizable anymore. I'm still crazy and weird and authentic and all this stuff, but my identity is no longer in these crazy, weird, worldly things, and it's in. It's in what he's called me to do, like, right now. And there's no more. Like, I have faith, Lord, in what you're doing. I feel like I'm living in what he's doing, even though I know I haven't reached the peak of whatever his plan is. I'm living in It. And I'm finding joy in, like, that journey.
Oh, man, that. That is such a hopeful message because so many times we are going through something in life and God is pruning us. He's refining us. He's getting us to that place where he can pour the blessings. Like it says, he gives us the desires of our heart. But what we don't always take into account is our heart has to be nurtured for that. It has to be prepped and readied for that desire. Or what you are asking for could crush you if you haven't become the person, the fortitude, the confidence, the strength, the faith. And when I hear your story, Lindsay, I just want other people to understand when you're in the middle of it. I'm sure it wasn't always like, that place of, like, radical belief. Sometimes it was. It felt dark. Sometimes there. There was periods where it was hard to be hopeful. But that's why we just do every day. Like Jesus said, don't worry about tomorrow, let's just do today. I'm refining you. Let's do today. Like, did you find that in your journey that sometimes it was like, all I can do is show up today?
Yeah, it's still. It's still. It's still not like a smooth ride every day. And all of you, I mean, I'm like, super, super, super authentic. Just because I fell into my identity as a Christian, a daughter of the king, a mom, a wife, an activist, you know, an author, whatever, doesn't mean that, like, financial security came with it, right? I still, like, up until a year and a half ago, I was still, like, you all know I'm still unemployed, right? I never went back to doing hair. I never opened until. Again, until a year and a half ago, I didn't open another salon. I didn't open another business. Like, I was like, I'm falling into my calling, but it's not paying the bills. So there was this. There was this level every day of being so thankful to the Lord for giving me my purpose and then also praying, but, Lord, can you monetize it somehow? I need the financial security or I'm going to always be stressed about also making money along with trying to live your purpose and then also being upset with him. You know, I. I'm doing what you said. Why am I still financially struggling? Why are you still not providing, like, financial security so that I can just be fully at peace? And a year and a half ago, he did do that. He gave me an opportunity that has literally just changed my life financially. So now I feel like, oh my gosh, I'm even. I'm even more free mentally and spiritually to like, say, okay, money is not a worry. Now I can like, take. Take care of my home, take care of the finances, and my husband has an incredible, incredible company now. But I can focus on like, spending that money to go and, and fly and do rallies or do activism or like fly to pro these, pro life, you know, what do you want? Protests, whatever.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But like, free to be. Free to. Anyway, so what you're saying is, right, like, it's okay. You're not. I'm not living in like pure bliss all the time. I'm living in my purpose. But there still comes stress with that and, and worry. And that's totally. Most Christians think that you have to be like, to be joyful, everything has to be perfect. And you're like, yeah, oh, honey.
No, I'm joyful, honey.
Broke.
Oh, honey. I remember one time, my. Because our road has been so rocky, you know, we're talking bankruptcy, foreclosure, all the things. Things, right. And I remember my husband one time said, you know, when we get past all this, I really need to do some work around my, my faith and my belief around money. And so I said, so when it's not a problem anymore, it's when you're going to work on it. Like I said, what if? That's why? And so that like every day being able to say, God, I don't know how I'm going to make it through the day. Like, I don't want to put push financial situations under the rug because honestly, the Bible talks about it more than anything else. Jesus talked about it because it's so easy to see your resource as your source, and that's that. That heart shift. Like, as soon as I have money, I'll have peace. But what if it's I have peace and therefore now I've opened up a door.
Yeah.
Allow more money to come in and that's it. I mean, that's a big thing.
That is that we can just be.
Like, oh, happy, happy, bliss, bliss. My lights are turned off.
Right? And I'm gonna give you a great example because the Lord just worked on this with me two weeks ago when I first started this movement. I did a podcast called the Patriot Barbie Show. And I am telling you, I'm telling you, right? You know, podcasts are not easy. They are hard work. They are very expensive. Anyone can do one. But to do one well and right. You are Invested almost like a full time job.
Yeah.
And I was spending so much money on like editing and then clips, and then I was reaching out to my own guests and following up with them and booking them. And if they no showed, my whole day was ruined. And it got to be a lot. And so I kind of was like, I'm going to take a break. And that break turned into like a full year, maybe a year and a half break. And I also was leading a Bible study, a women's Bible study on Instagram every Wednesday. And I reached this point a few months ago where I was like, oh, the weight of the world is just on me. And now, now I'm trying to, like, work this business that I have now too, which is my financial. And there's just too much. It's too much. Well, what did I quit? I quit things that I felt like God was calling me to do, which is use my voice. I don't know what that means, but when God says, use your voice, there's many different ways we can do that. Right?
Right.
But just two weeks ago, I was like, you know what? I'm working really hard for my business. That's what I do. I'm an entrepreneur. But I'm losing my purpose. I feel like I'm losing my purpose. The purpose is not to hustle hard and make money.
Right.
So this is insane. But I'm gonna go back to podcasting. And I told my husband, I'm like, I'm starting my podcast back up. And he's like, what? I thought you.
Blah, blah.
And I was like, I'm not doing what the Lord has called me to do in that aspect. Like, I don't think he's saying, do your podcast. But I'm like, I've walked away from the things that I felt were my purpose, and I'm still using my voice on Instagram. I speak and I still come on other people's shows. But how do I use my following and my platform to bless other people, not just myself? Yeah. And that is with a podcast, like, having other people on to tell their story. So, okay, so this is what I did. I said, okay, Lord, I'm going to go back to doing these things. They're going to cost me money, they're going to cost me time. Would you please make sure that I'm blessed financially over here without all the hustle so that I can focus on this? And I'm like, you know me, Lord. I'm. I'm literally asking you to, like, throw money at me. But What? That's what I'm asking. I'm asking you to. To continue to let this over here financially be blessed, because I'm. I'm recognizing I'm. As your daughter, I'm recognizing that I've forsaken you and what you've called me to do. So I'm going to go do it in obedience. Scratch my back a little, would you? And the Lord is like, why are we so afraid to ask him for what he already knows we need? And. And not. And like. And. And humble ourselves to be like, yeah, I'm asking you for it. It's like, if you have. If you have, like, there's a car that you want, there's no reason. God's, like, purpose in your life or whatever. It's your dream car. Why wouldn't you be like, lord, you already know I want the car. Can you make a way. Can you give me the car? I'm doing what you asked. Like, why are we so afraid that he wouldn't want to bless us with what we want? Whether it's for the right reasons or not?
Right. He's a good father.
Yes. And that's what he's done. I walked. I walked. I went back to my show. I have my first interview scheduled next week. I've started ramping it back up. I've started the process of restarting my women's Bible study in a different manner. And in that time, just that two weeks that I've been at my laptop focused on those things and not my business on the side, on my Instagram, I've got these women DMing me, like, how do I get involved in your business? I'm like, oh, my gosh, they're falling in my lap now. Because the Lord already knew the desires of my heart. I was obeying him. I was obedient. And then I was honest and authentic enough to tell him, I'm going to go back and do this, but, you know, I'm going to stress over here, so can you take care of that? And he's like, honey, honey buns, that's what I do. I take care of you, don't I? Thank you for asking.
So good. So good. And the thing is, like, he already knows our heart, and he's a good father. Like, my kids, for some reason, they have no problem calling and asking me for money. I kind of wish they did sometimes.
Like.
But no problem at all, right? I got seven kids.
Oh, my word.
Yeah, I got seven kids. They're all grown. I got grandkids, but they have no problem. And as a mom, I'm like, babe, yeah, I got you. If I have it, it's yours. And God, like, he who did not spare his own son, but gave him up for us all, will he not with him freely give us all things? We forget that. We forget about that love. And I remember a while ago and I, you know, going through some stuff, man, we're always. We're always coming out of something or going into something, right?
Yep.
And God was like, I want you to stop focusing on how I'm going to meet your needs and focus on how much I love you and just camp out there for a while. And when we camp out in knowing the love, like, really, like, try, we can't grasp it with our human mind. But trying to grasp the love that God has for us, we know. We know that. We know that he is more than enough to fill those needs. And now we have no shame or condemnation or distance, which is boldly coming into his phone room and saying, hey, can I. Can I get a Venmo? I got you, girl. I got you.
Come on.
It's already said it's inexhaustible, right?
Yep. So I love that when you say, when you compare yourself and your kids to, like, the love of God and us, it is such a. It's such a simple analogy that I think people forget we know, and only we know how much we love and adore and want the best for and would give anything for if we could, our kids. And in the same breath, do we also not recognize that we call him father. He is our parent. So we are the children and he is the parent. And if you can apply to your own mentality, what would I do if my child came to me with this? That's exactly how he envisions us. So when your child comes to you and says, can I get 10 bucks? I really want to do this. You already heard your child talking about that to their friend. You already said, I know he really wants to go to this event. I know it's going to cost money. I'm already. When he asks, I'm already, I'm going to give it to him. And you're just kind of waiting for him to ask, and there would be no reason you would go, no, I don't want you to have that. I. I mean, unless there's a legit reason, which God always has a legit reason for saying no. Okay, well, I know that that child does drugs, so, like, no, I'm not gonna.
Right?
But why can't we. Why can't we every day remember that the love that we feel for our child, as much as it is, doesn't even begin to compare with his love for us? And if we go to him in the posture of an innocent child. And again, the Bible backs this up to have a childlike innocence that he is. He wants to give us the desires of our heart as badly as we want to give our children everything in life also. And when you say, I love that scripture, the desires of your heart, it's like Psalm 37. 4. And this is really. I love telling this story because I just came to this, like, this epiphany. Probably six months ago, I was at an event in Texas, keynote speaking. And I love keynote speaking. I love it. I write my own speeches. I love getting all the perfect outfit, and I just love it. And at a keynote speaking event that night, I recognized when I was a child, I loved to write. I wrote poems, I wrote short stories. I loved to write, I journaled, and I wrote songs. And I was never going to be like a writer as a living. I mean, obviously I wrote a book, and that comes into play, too, right? But I was never gonna be a writer for a living. And then on the same note, side by side, growing up, I loved being a thespian. So drama choir, I did all the church plays, I did all the skits. I did all the extracurricular at school. Like, I couldn't act enough. And I did think, when I was a kid, oh, I'm gonna be a famous actress. And then, of course, that's not gonna happen. But here's what's insane to me. The desires of my heart were to be, we'll say, famous, right? Well known, popular. And while I was dreaming those dreams, he was grooming me and preparing me to be a keynote speaker. He was teaching me how to write so that I could write my own speeches. He was teaching me to be comfortable on stages so I would have no fear when I was asked to speak in front of 2000 people or come on podcasts with millions of viewers. He. He was preparing me for what he knew my calling was be. Would be. And I just thought, well, this is fun, right? But those were the desires of my heart. And when I gave my life back to him in 2020, I walked away from being a hairstylist, right? That was not the desire of my heart. And he went and he took the last four years, and he actually gave me what I didn't know was the desire of my heart to be. I Don't want to say famous, because I really don't think that when you're like.
Well, I mean, the Bible talks about that, that our name will be well known.
And it's okay to admit, like, that was the desire of my heart, but now I got it in a way that honors God. I didn't get it in, like, Hollywood. I didn't get it as a famous actress. He gave me the life that I wanted, and I didn't even realize I still wanted it.
Yeah, he brought you back to your original design, and he didn't do it.
Until I was willing to give my life to him.
There you go.
I couldn't go get this myself.
No, no, you couldn't. You could try. And that's what I think a lot of people do, is we try and we seek after that thing that we think will satisfy and give us that desire. But we don't know that God has a roundabout. He has a different way to get us there in a way that will give us that joy and give us that fulfillment, because he put the desire in our heart, not that we die within us, but so that we manifest this and glorify him here in this world. I just love that story. It's so exciting. Well, I want to. I want to ask you one more thing while I have you here, and that is I'm all about motherhood. I'm all about raising kids. Dominating this. This whole platform and how, like, I know the struggle of raising kids in a very counterculture world. You know, I mean, very. Not raising counterculture kids. What does that look like for you? Like, what do you think if you were talking with a mom right now? Because a lot of moms are listening, what is some advice you can give them on how to raise godly children in a very ungodly world?
Oh, man, this is. Well, I'm gonna say this. And it's. It's gonna hit a lot of people home. And it's not because our family is perfect and we do everything right. It's because I'm learning as I go what is working. And in our house, we only listen to Christian music and namely, worship, because I'm obsessed with Brandon Lake. So, like, it's always on the Brandon Lake worships. And so everything that your kids come in contact with is what will influence them. Everything. The TV, YouTube, the computer music, movies, shows, their friends, other people, everything. And so as much as you cannot lock your child at home and just keep them from everything, you can expose them to godly things as opposed to Exposing them to non godly things. So I have no problem listening to Christian music all day, every day. It. It brings my life joy. It's not a. It's not a duty. Okay. I love worshipping in the car. I love it. And sometimes I feel like that's the only time I really get intimately with God. And so my kids don't hear secular music, so they don't have any ideology from Justin Bieber or Rihanna or Taylor Swift coming into their head. We don't watch. We don't have Netflix. Because even when you pull up Netflix, if you check, choose what they can watch, there's still ads on there that I've seen that are not appropriate. Oh, my gosh. I'm like, I can't, like, I'm like. I'm like this close to, like, we don't have a tv.
Seriously. Seriously. It's like the other day, and it's just like, we're empty nesters now. My husband and I, like, we were gonna pull up a movie, and it's like this ad came on. I'm like, are you serious?
Good thing there's no kids in here anymore. Okay, but what? Yeah, it's pretty. It's pretty gross. And the world is getting. It's getting worse and worse.
It is.
Yeah. And so it's not like we're getting more extreme. It's that, like, literally 20 years ago. I'm sorry, hold on. Let me start over 40 years ago, when I was a child, my parents didn't have to worry about that stuff as much.
Right.
Because it wasn't as disgusting. And I feel like we're living in a different world where you have to be a little bit more overprotective because there's a lot more to protect them from. And so when you're only letting those biblical values and beliefs into your home, your. I love this. I'm gonna say it. You're indoctrinating your child with biblical teachings.
Yeah. I will say it all day. I am brainwashing you, baby. I am washing your brain with holy water so that if some kind of toxic poison comes in, you will know it. It won't feel right. It won't settle with you.
Yes. Yep.
And we've got to do this. I'm so, like, my. I always told my kids. I remember I would. I homeschooled them and always read to them every single day. And I remember one of our books, favorite books was Charlotte Sweat. And every single time when I would, I think I. You know, we cycled through because I have a lot of kids, right? And I would get to that last chapter, Lindsay, when Charlotte is, no, she's going to die, and she has her egg sac and she's like, wilbur, you need to protect this. This is my magnum opus. And he said, what is that? She said, my greatest work. And I would tear up every single time. And I would shut the book. And I'm explaining to my kids, you guys are my magnum opus. You guys are my greatest work. And we have to understand as moms, what we leave behind is going to have more impact than what we do here. And when we can raise our children to understand the true loving nature of God and glorify him in this world, what greater. What greater success?
Yep.
Yeah.
If. If. If what you leave behind is. Is. Is the children that don't go out and make a difference for Jesus after you're gone, then you. Then your legacy as a Christian stops right there. And you didn't further the kingdom. Furthering the kingdom is all we're actually called to do. That's it. Not make money, not write books, not look cute every day. To the kingdom. Right. All those things are fun. But if your children don't go out and further the kingdom after you, I don't care how educated they are. I don't care if they have a college degree. I don't care if they're a famous football player. Like, then. Then that is not a way to measure success.
Right? Doesn't matter. Lindsay, you are a joy. I think we could probably have a two hour podcast, and I would love to. Oh, my goodness. But I just. I want to thank you for having the boldness to be that trailblazer and to create this story because it gives a lot of people hope. And I want to thank you for taking time to be on here because you are amazing. So excited to enjoy this time with the Patriot Barbie. And I know if you're like me, your life has been blessed like crazy. Thank you so much.
Thank you.
