In this episode of Marriage Monday, hosts Hannah and Blair Keeley walk through a historic Scottish castle, using the setting and the story of a 900‑year family estate to explore themes of inheritance—both legal and emotional. They explain how inheritance tax can erase a family’s material legacy if assets aren’t gifted seven years before death, and they draw a parallel to the way couples often postpone nurturing their marriage and parenting. The hosts argue that marriage is a partnership that must actively protect and cultivate its “royal” inheritance: love, honor, dignity, and spiritual identity as children of God. They discuss practical habits—spending intentional time together, being present with children, listening with the heart, and forming daily rituals—to pass down a legacy of respect rather than neglect or hostility. Throughout, they emphasize an identity shift from “average” to “royalty,” encouraging listeners to see themselves as heirs of a divine royal bloodline, which should transform how they speak, act, and treat others. The episode intersperses promotional plugs for their Mom Mastery online university and the That Mom Show starter kit, offering free resources for mothers seeking radical results in health, money, family, and personal growth.

Hey there. Got a question for you today. What is your inheritance and what are you handing down to the generations that come after you? Because whether you realize it or not, you're royalty, baby. Here's the big how are these average, everyday moms getting radical results in their lives? How are they able to transform their health, money, families, homes, and have fun doing it? The trick. We're not average. I'm Hannah Keeley and I'm going to spill our secrets and answer your questions right now in that mom show. Okay. Welcome to another Marriage Monday. It's Hannah and it's Blair. And we are. Why don't you tell where we are right now as we're walking down the road? We're not in our neighborhood.
No, we're not in our neighborhood. We're actually on mission as well as a little bit of a wee vacation. We're in Scotland right now at a castle. We're staying at a castle called the Blair estate.
And guess what? A storm passed through last night called Storm Hannah. So literally, we are in the middle of Storm Hannah on Blair's day. So, so much metaphor to that.
There's lots of life metaphors that are coming through on that one. No, but we're in Delrai, outside of Kilwinning in the southwest coast of Scotland and really, really enjoying it. This beautiful, beautiful property. So you might hear me taking pictures in the background as we walk along.
You guys turn your sound off.
Oh, I'll turn my sound off.
Okay, well, this is what I want to talk about today because we were just talking about how amazing the grounds are here. Absolutely beautiful. We're actually walking along. Man, I wish I was better with words because I want to describe ride this. Okay. Imagine Pride and Prejudice. And that's what it is. Like, literally, like, it looks.
Yeah, we're walking around like a Scottish.
Like an English countryside with moss covered trees, gray sky, birds chirping freshly. You know, it just rained, so it's fresh and beautiful and. And we just walked around the grounds of the castle. We're going up the drive and crossing over bridges, over babbling brooks. I mean, it's like right out of a store.
I know. I feel like I'm. I, you know, walked right back into the 18th century. I'm completely underdressed.
We are so under. We're like wearing jeans and sweats. We should be like, I should be in a nice, like, ruffled gown and you should, you should at least have like a cloak on or something.
What do they call them, knickers and knee socks?
Knickers and. That sounds sexy. Okay.
No, you're always bringing that stuff up.
Yeah. You and knickers and knee socks. I don't know. Maybe not. Okay, so what we want to talk about today is your inheritance. Because we found out that this beautiful estate was actually in the family for 900 years. Over 900 years.
Until eight years ago.
Until eight years ago. I mean, they still preside on the grounds, but it's amazing how, you know, a thing came through called inheritance tax, and it can, like, wipe you out if you're not expecting it. And all of a sudden you could lose that precious thing that has been handed down to you. So here's is. I guess I don't know if it's just in Scotland or not, but if you don't gift your inheritance seven years before you die, your tax, the person who is supposed to receive it is taxed.
Well, your next of kin.
Yeah, next of kin, whoever stands in line to receive your property is taxed at 40% inheritance tax. We're like, oh, my gosh. But you know what? Here's. I was thinking, you always think there's time. You always think, oh, you know, I'll worry about it later. Then all of a sudden, it's too late and your inheritance is gone. And with parenting and. And that's what I want to talk about. Like, what? You know, I know this is marriage Monday, but you got to be a team in order to parent your kids. And you always think there's time. You always think, I'll get to it later. I'll spend time with them later. I'll dedicate, you know, more of my energy to that later, to my marriage later. I mean, this can be, like, totally about marriage.
Yeah.
You know, you always think there's later, but if you don't guard it, if you don't take safeguards, if you don't, like, get in that sweet spot of your intimacy with God so that you can be more in your marriage. And as a parent, you're going to lose that inheritance. And you're supposed to be passing something down to your children. A royal inheritance as a child of God. And I'm starting to preach now so you can take over.
Well, yeah. And that goes into sort of the personal relationship between you and your spouse in terms of preparing for the future by continuing to practice the different kinds of exercises that we've talked about in the past. You know, spending time together, actually making time to be together.
Like right now, our kids are there at the castle, and we're just you know, me and you, you just want to go on a walk together.
And, and those kinds of things make habits, form habits so that, you know, as you get, you know, older in your life, those habits are things that you continue and you, you enjoy spending time together. It does create your destiny. So I think spiritually as well as manifest in your relationship with each other, preparation for the future is always important. It's about doing little things now, things that don't hurt. So, for example, taking care of a, you know, using the example of the house here that we're in. You know, taking the time right now to do the paperwork, you know, to make sure that somebody in your next of kin is given the property without having to be super taxed. It's the same thing in your relationship with each other, in your relationship with God is doing the little things now so that later on it's. It's much more. You don't have problems to worry about.
Yeah. And I wonder if they can hear the birds. They just sound so pretty.
I don't know.
And, and another thing, like taking time now and knowing that, you know what? All I've got is now. Like, tomorrow doesn't even exist. Yesterday doesn't exist anymore. All I've got is right now. What am I going to do right now? Am I going to scroll on Instagram? Am I going to sit and worry about stuff? Am I going to just, like, piddle around and do nothing? Or am I going to really make this moment count? What, what can I do now to create a better relationship later? And you say, you know, I have a great relationship right now. All right? But there's always room to make it better. Like, I don't want you to just have a great marriage. I want you to have an extraordinary marriage like that and to have an extraordinary family. And that comes when you take time now to focus and be totally present where you're hearing each other, but you're also listening carefully with your heart. You're really tuned into one another. You're not. You're not physically there, but your mind is somewhere else. Right?
Spend the pennies now before you are hit with huge amounts of expense later.
That you do not want to pay.
That you don't want to pay. And I mean that emotionally. I mean that spiritually. I mean that in your relationship.
Yeah. Because regret is too high of a price. Oh, yeah, go ahead. Our daughter's calling us, so I guess she wants to know where we are. But while he is talking to our daughter, he's like, we're walking down the road, there's also something that happens when you realize who you are. So we, when we drove on the grounds to this castle, we are like breathtaking. Like we were in awe. Like no one in the car even. It was just like, what, where are we? Where have we been transported to? Hey mama. We'll get right back to the podcast, but did you know there is an entire online university just for moms? If you're ready to get radical results in your life, just go to mommastery.com that's M O M M A S T E R-Y.com make sure you check it out and take your free quiz. Again, that's mommastery.com M O M M A S T-E-R-Y.com now back to the podcast. And all of a sudden when you realize it's like a, it's like a paradigm shift. All of a sudden you go from being just an average person to a royal person. I was talking about how when we like rolled onto the ground, it's like all of a sudden there's a shift like, oh, we are regal, we are royalty. And that's how it changes. Like how you act, how you carry yourself, it changes how you talk, how you speak. You start to walk with dignity. You try to speak with honor. When, when you're in the presence, when you're staying in a castle, it does shift you. But I'm telling you right now, that shift can happen anytime, any place, as soon as you know who you are. And when you realize that you are royalty, you are a child of the most high God, the King of kings, the Lord of Lords. You are a child. You're standing in the royal bloodline. And so that, that in itself, knowing who you are should change everything. It should change your perspective on how you carry yourself, how you speak to your husband, how you speak to your wife, how you raise your children. It all should be, should be just filtered through honor and dignity and grace and you know, like that whole just handling yourself as royalty.
Right, True. Treating yourself that way now and doing that together on a daily basis. And it doesn't mean going out and spending all kinds of money and gathering.
It's like a shift. It's an identity shift.
It's an identity shift. It's how you see yourself. It's not necessarily how you spend your dollars or over invest or overspend to make yourself feel that way. It's about what you look like or what you, how you look at yourself and how you treat Yourself and how you treat, and how you treat those that are near you.
Yeah, yeah. And you're passing down something to your children every single day and how you treat them and how you treat each other like your children are watching how you make your marriage work. Right. And you're handing down an inheritance. It could be an inheritance of cutting remarks and insults and hostility.
Right.
Or it can be.
Or just absence as well.
Oh yeah.
You know, absence is, is, is not.
Even being present with.
Being present with each other. That's, that's, that can be a long lasting inheritance that does no good for anyone.
Right, right. And then you put it on them, the burden on them to try to break it.
Right.
Using the world's solutions, which we know does not work.
Right.
But. Or you can hand down an inheritance of honor and value and dignity and grace and, and love, like overwhelming love in how you treat each other. But they're watching everything. Don't think there's a later time. You're walking so fast. Don't think there's. I know I'm like trying to keep up with you.
I've been walking so fast the last few days.
I know.
Wherever we go.
So I know I'm usually the one walking so fast. But. But don't think there's a later time to love each other and to honor each other because you promise to honor and respect and that goes both ways. And your children are watching you and they are receiving an inheritance and it should be an inheritance of royalty.
Yep, Absolutely. Absolutely. I think it should be something that, you know, that emanates from everything about yourself, everything about your being, how you carry yourself and how you treat others, how you treat your children, how you treat your friends, how you treat your co workers, obviously how you treat your spouse, you know, honoring them as if they are royalty as well. I promise you that that changes how your kids perspective on the. It changes how your kid's perspective on the world is. And we've seen that, you know, in terms of how we treat our kids, it doesn't mean spoiling, it doesn't mean, you know, over treating, you know, when there isn't great reason to do so, but it's just an honor and respect. When your 7 year old wants to tell you a story about what happened at school or happened at church or with their friends, you stop and you listen as if they were and really tune in. Yeah. And really stop what you're doing. Put your phone down, put your paper down, put whatever you're doing because you're.
Telling them I honor you more than I honor this present text.
That's a great example, a very simple example, but a very great example of how to treat others with royal respect.
I mean, you can't expect your children to respect one another if you as a married couple have. Do not respect yourselves and honor each other. And that. That is seen when you're together and when you're apart. Right. You know, they see. Like, they see you honor me when I'm not around, right? And they see me honoring you and talking highly of you when you're not around. So they know that it permeates every bit of our relationship. And so we can't expect our kids. Kids, like what we're passing down. You're passing down something to your kids. Understand that and let it be that royal inheritance that comes to being a child of God. And hold yourself in love and honor and kindness. And one more thing I wanted to say, and I really wish I could remember it because it was so good.
Are you gonna have to save this till the next one?
No, it was. It was just. It was just like handing down something. I can't remember what was it. It was so good. Oh, man. Oh, oh, oh. And also just that sense, like, have you ever seen, like, how people honor the royal family? You know, like, they talk so highly of them, and that's how they do things. Like.
Well, that's what an example of. One of our friends we were speaking with today here in Scotland was talking about when he was a young boy, he came to this very estate. And when the lord of the estate was out and about, he was a young boy with. Would be here to work.
Children would play.
They play. But they would also do some work on the grounds. But when the lord would drive by in their car or walk by that. Then all of the kids would take their hats off and put their eyes down towards the ground in sort of honor and respect for the lord of the estate.
But, like, that mentality of that's how we do things. And so I think that whole mentality, that's how we do things. Like, our children understand, like, for example, if they see, like, litter on the side of the road, they know that's not how we do things. How we do things is we make eye contact with people when we talk with them. We shake their hands, we speak to them, we show honor and respect. And look at these sheep. There's sheep all over the place. And so when you're, you know how you treat each other in your marriage is going to tell your children this is how we do things. We honor one another. We don't. You know, we hold each other highly and. And you have a certain royalty that touches everything you do. And they will see it, they will adopt it. And you know what last words, all this royal living, it really helps if you see it does actually.
It makes you feel like you're a king or a queen or prince and it's like walking out of a movie really. It's amazing.
