The Care & Keeping Of A Palace: Part 3
17 May 2024 · 29 min
In this episode of Mom Mastery University, host Hannah Keeley expands her "palace" metaphor for homemaking, moving from thoughts and emotions (covered in parts 1 and 2) to concrete activities. She frames each household responsibility as a medieval castle role and offers faith‑based, practical strategies for moms to manage their homes more efficiently and joyfully. The steward role translates to daily home management and stewardship of God‑given resources; knights and soldiers become the protective mindset of praise walks, spoken declarations, and rejecting worry. The marshal oversees maintenance, zoning, and a master supply list (including Amazon reorder lists). The chaplain is the spiritual leader who sets the family’s spiritual temperature. The chamberlain emphasizes self‑care as the prerequisite for caring for others. The kitchen role shares low‑budget meal‑planning tactics, pantry stocking, and a rotating recipe system. Finally, the jester reminds moms to cultivate joy and laughter. Throughout, Keeley weaves the "faith formula" (thought‑emotion‑action) and repeatedly invites listeners to enroll in Mom Mastery University for deeper coaching and community support.

I wanted to make this a little more fun for you because we always talk about, you know, the things that we do as moms. I mean, think about it. We're a lot of us, right, are, or we're managing our homes where we're the dietitians, we're the chauffeurs, we're the, we're the cleaners, we're the, we're like doing everything right. So sometimes it can feel monotonous, sometimes it can feel unappreciated. And all that is true. But we have to go to our core belief. And if you feel it is valuable, that's going to push you forward. It doesn't matter if anyone else thinks it's valuable. It matters if you consider it or worthy and valuable. It may not feel like you're appreciated, but do you appreciate yourself? See, it always starts with your self concept. So we're going to talk about palace activities. How do we manage a palace? So I did a little research on this and I was looking for the typical roles and responsibilities of people inside a palace. Like, remember when like castles were a thing and, and people would live in castles. The, the king and queen and, and their staff and their family and all the people that ran the palace ran the castle. All the different roles that they had. So we're gonna make this fun. We're gonna look at every single task that takes place in a palace and how you can execute that as a mom, but not just as a mom, as a master mom. Right. Because we do all of this stuff and more. So the first role that came up was the steward. So the steward is basically the lady of the castle and she was in charge of all the daily management and the supplies. So these were like basically the tasks that kept the castle running. So in today's terminology, it would probably be a home manager. There are several people that do you know when they have a, when they have a big home and they have a lot of activities there and they have to manage like a lot of other things that are going on in, on that property. Typically they will hire a home manager. Now I'm going to share with you a little bit about what that looks like today and how you can become the steward of your home, because I want you to think about that. I love the title steward because a steward is someone who does not own the property, but cares for the property. So think about this as stewards of everything that God has entrusted to us, right? We are supposed to exemplify stewardship, which means that that's when you know, Jesus shared the parable of. Of the manager who, who. The king who went out and he left his managers in charge and he gave them talents. He said, now go occupy till I come back. That's what Jesus tells us to do. He gives us talents and he gives us authority over this earth. And he says, now I'm going to go away. You go occupy. But till I come back, you go and manage. You go in and use the resources for everything that God has called you to do. So I want you to think about that as I'm going to occupy the space and I'm going to manage this space. I'm going to manage it efficiently for my Master who owns it. Because the earth, he created the earth and he gave it to us. He said, go occupy this. He said, go, be fruitful, multiply. Go replenish the earth. Go subdue it, have dominion. He's telling us, I've given it to you, now show me what you can do with it. And I want you to think about this, because it's. It's a beautiful thought, that we can own nothing but control everything. Sometimes you'll hear people talk about that, like, own nothing, control everything, because ownership carries a certain liability with it. If you're talking about, like, owning a house or a car, you're liable for that. But if you put it under your business or your trust, which is what, you know, businesses will talk about all the time, then that becomes liable. You're free. So think about this in terms of being a steward. The responsibility goes right back to God. Jesus took all of your sin. He bore them on the cross so you don't have to carry that heavy weight of responsibility. But now, stepping into things, this position of being a steward, now the responsibility of caring for what he has given us falls on us. Now, that doesn't mean he's waiting to bop us on the head if we get it wrong, right? Because he took all that condemnation, we get to operate in the grace, the favor that, that is not earned, that is merely given to us. So operating in that favor, knowing that he is rooting for you, that he's empowering you, that he's directing you and he's guiding you, that now we can step into that position of the steward of our palace So a lot of times in our homes, we always want things to change in order for it to become a little easier to manage. We might want a bigger house. We might want some repair work done. We might want some, like, a different layout of our house, or maybe if I just had a garage, or maybe all the. All the little things that would make it seem easier to manage. But I want you to think about if you could develop gratitude for what you have right now and care for it in a beautiful way, in a responsible way, in an efficient way. Because he tells us, when you're faithful with little, you'll be given much. So how are you showing up as a steward with what you have right now? Think about that. It's the same as our bodies. Our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. So we're stewarding our bodies. God dwells inside of us. And so caring for our bodies is basically revealing gratitude to God for giving us these bodies, right? He dwells within us. So now we have a responsibility, not just to ourselves, but to God, because this is his temple, to care for our bodies in the best way possible. We do the same with our home. It shows gratitude for what he's given us, to care for our homes in a beautiful way. So look around you. If there are things that need to be done, why are they not done? If there are things you can do to make it a better place, a more beautiful place, why is that not being done? It may be, you know, you feel like you don't have time or you feel like you don't have enough help. I want you to think, what if I wasn't limited by time or energy? And what if I could actually show up and just in little ways, make my home more beautiful, manage it better, reveal more of my talent and ability in my home. So one thing I always think that can, and I want to give you, like, strategies, help you move forward. And one strategy is leave it better than you found it. That's one thing I would always tell my kids. You probably heard this before. What if every space you walked into, you left it better than you found it? The other day, I was in my car, and I always go. I drive to our park, which is very close, and I always hike every single morning with my dogs. And someone had left a hat in my car. And I remember I parked the car in the garage and I saw it there, and I walked out and I locked the car, and I was going inside with the dogs. I'm like, no, I can't do that. I can't do that. I gotta go back to my car and leave it better than I found it, right? And so that one thing that I've always educated myself on forced me. Like, that's where your core belief really goes into overdrive, right? It forced me to come back out and go to my car, unlock it, get the hat out, and put the hat away. So I want you to say, what if I could just do the little things that could leave a place better than I found it, and those little things stacked up just like inside mmu we do habit stacking, those little actions stacked up will start to create a beautiful home that runs efficiently and at a very high level because you're a queen. You got this. Now, another role at the castle is the knights and the soldiers, the people who protect and defend the castle. Now, mama, that is. You remember we talked about being the guardian of your palace? So how do we protect and guard? I want you to understand one thing so clearly. Worry is not a protection device. A lot of people think, well, I remember, like someone said, well, if I don't worry about it, I'm not being responsible. If I don't worry about my kids, or if I don't worry about my home, or if I don't worry about my future or worry about my money or my husband, I'm not being responsible. No, that is actually irresponsible to worry because we are what worry is. It's like this energy of dwelling on the most negative consequence, the most negative scenario, the least favorable outcome. So if we're putting all this energy toward the least favorable outcome, it's like praying for what we don't want to happen. So think about this. I want you to get rid of the idea that worry is a necessary ingredient in you protecting and defending your home and your family. It is not. It is ineffective. And it will actually, like, jump up and bite you in the butt and hold you back from that reality that you do want to create the most favorable scenario. So, first off, worry is not allowed to be a protection device because it can actually get you in more trouble. We're not going to do that. What we are going to do is use the resources we have in our possession, and we may not even be aware of it. So the Bible tells us that angels are always on guard, that they are surrounding us, that they're waiting to hear a word. So what if we understood that God's favor surrounds us? Angels are at our call, and they go before us. They can protect our children. Favor goes before our children. It goes before our family, it goes before our spouses. We're surrounded in favor. What if we focused on that and not worry? What if we said, like, whatever is coming up in your life where you're worried about your home, you're worried about your family, you're worried about your marriage, money, whatever that is, go ahead and decide right now. I'm going to put angelic forces to work so angels go out and do the work of God that I see in his book, his promises. Go out, bring it in. If it's like protection, if it is a money situation, if it is healing, thank you God that it's already done, because your word says it is done. So we're going to set a guard around our home. This is what I love to do is I'll often walk around my home, outside of my home, and. And I just do a praisewalk. I just thank God. I thank God for my home. I thank God for the angels that surround my home, protecting it. I thank God that there is only favor that goes in my home. I thank God that it is safe, it is protected, it is covered. I also say, demons, in the name of Jesus, get out of my home, get out of this territory. It's like walking that bloodline. I know people have talked about that before. Walking a bloodline, meaning the blood of Jesus surrounds this home. And. And no demonic influence, no evil can come in here, no sickness, nothing can enter in that is not. That does not come from God. So I want you to step into your power as a queen and say, what if I am actually the greatest defender of my home and I can do that with my mind and I can do that with my mouth, I can speak praises, I can focus on the most favorable scenario. I could do a praisewalk around my home. And here's another thing I do. I want to give you practical solutions. Because remember, this is doing palace activities. This is the practical stuff. Having a praisewalk around your home is a practical action. Also, every time someone leaves your home, I've started this habit and every one of my kids knows that. My husband knows it. And I always tell them, you are covered in favor. I speak that over everyone who leaves my home. You are covered in favor. Because I want them to understand where they go. The favor of God surrounds them in favor and goes with them. Also at night sometimes I just have this nighttime dedication. Actually not sometimes. Every night you can ask my husband, when I go to bed, I just say, thank you, Jesus. I always remark on our home and our family. And I'm So grateful. And I just say, thank you Jesus. It is one way to just get your focus in line. So think about it, focusing your thoughts, doing those praise walks, commanding favor over everyone who leaves your home and dedicating your home at night with gratitude and just saying a quick thank you Jesus. What about a morning routine? What about a morning devotion? Can that start your morning? Can you start your day in the word of God? Because I'm telling you, if you start the day running, you may think it's going to get more done, but that never works. When you start your day abiding in God and letting his word abide in you, that's how you get more done than you ever could without Him. So spend time in the morning, even if it's just a few minutes, get in the word of God, praise Him, focus on him, thank him for that day and dedicate it to Him. Another thing is my a.m. p.m. Routines. I know if you've been in Mom Master University for any time at all, you know about the AM PM routines. In the morning, I have a routine. In the evening, I have a routine. Those are my bookends. Now here's the deal for mom days can get crazy. It can like spiral out of control so quickly. So we have to have those bookends. Our AM routine and our PM routine. What is something you do every morning? Get that routine. I get up, I go walking. I have my mom brain smoothie. Well, I have to have my coffee first and then my mom brain smoothie and I make sure I'm starting that day active. I go through my list in my planner of everything I've given a home to for that day and, and I move forward. My PM routine, I set up my clothes for the next day. That's priceless. You had to start doing that, especially if you're in the freedom track. I think that's one of the master habits, is to set your clothes out the night before so you're not dealing with decision fatigue with, with the whole mom brain thing. So setting out your clothes, going through your tasks tomorrow in your master mom planner, which I hope you have now, if you don't have it, make sure you get one and preparing for the day, for the next day, setting anything aside that you need to take with you or things you need to work on. So have your AM routine. Have your PM routine. It doesn't have to be long and drawn out. It just has to be something that anchors in your day so it doesn't spiral. So now that that's the knights and the soldiers, that's protecting your home. And you have more power than you realize. Now we're going to move on to the marshal. That's actually a position that a castle has. And the marshal was the person who ran the stables. They also made sure they were communicating. They ran the hunting parties, all the travel needs. So all of the communication, the travel, anything that happened outside of the castle, that was what the marshal did. So I want you to think about that, because another thing that the marshal had is he had to make sure things were always repaired and kept up in the building. Now, how does this pertain to you? How are you a marshall? I want you to think about that repair and upkeep. So one thing that moms sometimes are not, you know, that can be problematic, right, for motherhood, is the upkeep of the home. We're good about, like, staying on top of things, usually, and keeping things running. But every now and then, it's like, oh, I need to repair that, or we need to order that, or we need to keep up with that. Now, remember, we're talking activities here. I know this is not typical for me because I'm always doing the coaching with your mind. Right. But we're doing activities here, and I think it's going to help you a lot. So I want you to think about every single month. You have a crazy calendar. We have it inside our Facebook group. You also get it with your monthly program, with that workbook that you have. You have a monthly calendar. If you look, there's certain tasks in there that we do. Now, one thing is zoning. Make sure you are operating with zones in your home. If you look at the calendar, every single month is divided into four zones. Each week is a zone, and the zones are parts of your home where you can do the deep cleaning and do the decluttering. Now, why am I sharing this with you? The marshal is the person that has to stay on top of things. So steward is keeping things running and making sure things are, you know, the daily operations. But the marshal is like, I need to make sure this is kept up so that we can communicate. We can do our shopping. We can make sure everything's, like, stored up. We can, like, manage the larger tasks of the home. And you're the marshal. So that means you need to divide your home into those zones so you can stay on top of that and make sure things are kept up. Also, think about if there's a master list. Now, I want to show you this thing. This is a very effective tool, and it's to have a master list in your home. What this means is to get a notebook and go through your home and look at the supplies that are needed, those supplies that often run out. You're like, oh, we need to go get some more. We need to order some more. What does this look like? Think about batteries for your smoke alarms. Think about things like filters for your air conditioning. Think about the bulbs, certain bulbs that fit, certain lamps and things in your home. So go in each room and say, what does this room for require that could possibly run out? And I will need more. It's so simple. That's why there's no, like, specific task list that I can give you. Because this is something that is. Is. Is very individual to every home. So this is just again, go in each home and ask yourself the question, what does this home require? So I'm looking right now. I'm in an upstairs bedroom where I love to record because my dogs lay on the bed. And I'm looking and there's some certain bulbs that the light up there needs. And there's a filter right outside the door that is an air conditioning vent. So it requires that there are certain. There are clear bulbs that are in that lamp and that lamp that I need a supply for. So write these down and be specific. What is the wattage? What is the size? What is the type? You can also. Here's a really great strategy. Create the list inside Amazon so it's always there and you can just boop, order it. See what I'm talking about? These are good strategies. Baby, this is going to help you manage your palace. Now another thing, the next one is the chaplain. Girlfriend, this is so important. You are the chaplain. You are a spiritual leader in your home. Now, I want you to get a really good understanding of what spiritual leadership means. So a lot of people like, well, my husband is a spiritual leader, and that's beautiful if that works for you. But there are a lot of women who are like, I feel like I'm kind of more of a spiritual leader than my husband. And they feel remorse over that and frustration. I want you to understand that God can bless you where you are, how you are. You're not dependent upon anyone else to step up into spiritual leadership. It is not arrogant of you. It is not egotistical, it's not sinful to step into that place of spiritual leadership. Remember, your first authority is to your heavenly Father. And he says, in God, there is no Jew or Greek or male or female. So we are all called to be spiritual leaders. So this may be a time where you can go to prayer and say, God, how am I a spiritual leader at this home? Because remember, you're the thermostat, right? You're not a thermometer. You're the thermostat. And you set the spiritual temperature of what's going on. So remember that. What does this look like? It looks like you dedicating your home and your career to God. Remember, he has poured purpose into you. I feel like being a mom is the highest calling. My career as a minister, as a coach, that comes second. My calling as a mom and as a wife is the highest. And I love being that homemaker. And so with that high calling, I want to dedicate that to God, and I want it to be for him, his glory. So make sure you remind yourself. The frustration that comes with being a mom and being a wife and being a homemaker often comes from a distortion of the perception that you think it needs to look like. Maybe it doesn't have to be perfect. Maybe it doesn't have to be exactly what your sister does or your mom did or your aunt does, or even what I do. Maybe it looks like God, I trust you that you have given me this children. You're trusting these children to me. And you, because you abide in me, will will make this a mighty work. Dedicate that career to him, and he will empower you to become the spiritual leader. Now, the next position is the chamberlain. What is a chamberlain? Well, the chamberlain looks after the Lord's chamber. And the Lord was like, the king is the lord and the lady or the king and the queen. So basically he's. Look, he's like the butler, what you would call the butler or the maid looking after the person. So as a mom, we are called to look after the people in our home. So every. I feel like everyone is under my authority. I can't shrink back. I can't become less. Because then everyone who is entrusted in me could be in could be a risk. You have to take care of yourself. So caring for others means, first of all, you're going to take care of yourself before you can make sure everyone has their lunches packed and make sure they have their clothing and make sure you're taking care of them. You need to be in the right place. So how you do this, how you care for those people in your home and in your family, is to care for yourself. And what you're doing right now, being inside. Mom Master University. There you go. You got it. Keep tuning in. Keep plugging in. Keep executing and make sure you do the extended work inside MMU with every coaching session. You got this. Now the next one is the kitchens. I know that can be a huge thing because no matter what, no matter how crazy the day is, no matter what you got going on, people still need to eat right. So I want to show you some things that helps me in managing the meals for my family. So, as you know, I have seven kids, and trust me, they all were fed. So. And we didn't always have a lot of money, too, so we had to do things with within a very tight budget for several years. A lot of years. So I learned some things on how to feed people healthy, even on a limited budget. So I want you to think about this. It's not expensive to eat healthy. I know there's so many expensive, healthy foods, but it is not expensive to eat healthy. Rice is still rice. Beans are still beans. You can still get meat. You can still, like, get those veggies. Is almost like the trendy health stuff is expensive. You know, food is still basic food. Now I want you to think about this. The stress of having to prepare meals can sometimes feel overwhelming. That's why if you've gone through mom boot camp and you got that, that bonus kit, make sure you do that. If you haven't gone through mom boot camp, try it out. It's so much fun, but you get a lot of bonuses. One bonus you get is the monthly meal planner, where I show you the strategies and. And I actually have an entire recipe book full of recipes for you. So get inside there just to get that bonus kit. You will love it because it helps you plan out your meals in less than five minutes. You can plan a whole month of meals. So that's right there. You can get access to that at any time you want to. But what I did is I had just basic meals, like just maybe 20, 25 meals. And every month we would just rotate them. Pretty simple. And I kept my family happy and fed, and it was healthy, too. Also, make sure you're keeping your pantry stocked. This is another area where you can just have a master list and say, these are the things that I always get at the store. And sometimes, you know, you'll get different things to try different recipes, but you pretty much know, like, my. For my kitchen and my pantry to be stocked, this is what it requires. Get a master list. And that way it's going to make grocery shopping so much easier. Now, the very last role in the castle, guess what it is. You cannot have the full staff without having the jester. So every castle had a jester and had entertainers there. Why would that be a necessary position for a castle to run effectively? Because we were made to laugh. We were made to be happy. We were made to experience joy. Joy. And it's important. I mean, you can't get together with any other master moms without laughing. Because, I mean, come on, we're moms, right? That it's funny. Some funny things happen in our life and we enjoy it and we laugh about it. So I want you to understand this one thing. It's okay to have fun. It's okay to laugh about things. It's okay to just have a day off and just like, have fun with your kids. When is the last time you played? In the spring in the sprinkler? Or finger painted or actually did something fun? Think about that today. That's part of the whole process of running a palace, is making sure there's laughter in your home. Now remember, this is just the third of it. Get inside Mom Master University. Do the extended work. It's all there for you. It's a supplemental video and also that's going to really help you take this action and put it to work. So I'll see you inside Mom Master University. So what about you, Mama? Are you ready to enroll in the only school that will not only change your life, but also your legacy?
