Hannah Keeley explores Mark 9:24's six-word prayer, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief," as a tool for moving from intellectual belief to heart-based trust. She shares personal stories of health and family crises, explains the gap between what we know and what we feel, and offers a visualization of holding fear in one hand and God's love in the other.

Hey, if you're feeling a bit battle weary, then this episode is for you. Because there is a prayer in the Bible. It's just six words but I believe it's the most powerful prayer. That's not going to only give you insight into your battle, but I think it's going to help you get out of it. Alright guys, welcome to the Crazy Bless show. I'm Hannah Keeley. I'm so excited you're here because I've got something to share with you that I think is going to impact your life in a radical way. Especially if you are right now going through a faith battle. If you're trying to believe for something and it seems like death by a thousand cuts, you know, I'm talking about like, I don't know if you've ever been in that kind of stage of life. I have been. And when you're in it, it's almost like every day you wake up and you wonder what level of hell am I going to experience today? Like, what level do I need to fight today? It's almost like this merging of heaven and hell where you're trying to believe for heaven but you're facing so much hell. It's just like, okay, if I could just hold it today, if I can just hold it for this hour, right? And I want to encourage you today because I truly believe every single time I've been in that and there's been health battles, there's been financial battles, like you name it and I'll share them with you today. But every single time I can tell you that this was working for me, it felt horrible. It felt like I was failing, felt like I was getting everything wrong. I felt like I was grasping, like, what do I have to do now, Lord? It might. Do I need to do, I need to fast? Do I need to pray? Do I need to like, give me a sign, give me something. So I will do whatever it takes. God, just please, like I'm trying to get out of this, I'm trying to believe for this and I keep getting hit, hit, hit. And if you're at that place, there's a prayer in the Bible, it's Mark 9, 24. And I'm going to share this with you, but it's only six words. I truly believe if we can grasp this, internalize it, then it's going to not only provide you a level of calm today, but it's going to give you that power to get out of it. Hey there. Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief. Now, this came when this man, he had this son, and people think his son probably had epilepsy. He was having these attacks, and they said he was demon possessed. He was throwing him into the waters, throwing him into the fire. And he went to Jesus and he's like, if you can help, like, please my son. Like, he goes in the. This demon throws him into the water, throws him into the fire. And Jesus said this. What do you mean, if I can help? You just have to believe. Seems so simple, right? Like, think about the problem you're going through right now, whatever that is, and you're saying, jesus, if you can just help me. Like, I'm struggling here and someone's like, Jesus said, well, of course I can help you. Like, duh, like, what do you mean, if I can help you? Like, of course I can. All you have to do is believe. It sounds so simple. It almost feels like a. Like a slap in the face. If you're trying to build up your faith, if you're trying to believe this thing and. And Jesus, like, of course I can. Like, all I have to do is believe. Like, it sounds so simple. It almost sounds like mockery of where you are at that point. Not that Jesus would mock you or just make fun of you or Jesus would criticize you in that manner, but to Jesus, it was simple. It was a matter of belief. And this man, he understands it. He gets it. He's like, of course. I'm asking, like. Like God, basically, can you do anything? Of course God can do something. Of course Jesus can do something. And you know it. You know it in your head. But then you're like, lord, I do believe, but help my unbelief. Help me in my heart where I'm struggling, and I'm really struggling to hold on to this spot, to keep the faith. I'm really struggling right here. So what I want to share with you today is how. How do we leverage this power? How do we leverage this belief power? And Jesus had so much mercy on him. And he said this. He said, tell me how long he's been like this. I love that because Jesus was leaning into the problem. He was like, look, I'm not. I'm not criticizing your lack of faith. I want to know how long you've been struggling with this. See, he could definitely meet the need. So, for example, let's say we're coming to him with a financial problem. Lord, if you can just please get me out of debt, if you can please pay this bill today. It's due today. Lord, if you can please keep me out of bankruptcy, if you can just give me that money, like, we got to close on the house today or we lose it. Can you please, God, if you can do this, please. It's like God saying, of course I can. You just have to believe. But we're struggling because we're not seeing it happen. So when Jesus said this to this man, he was saying, the belief is a simple part, but the struggle to hold that belief is hard. So when Jesus really leaned into this man, he said, tell me how long he's been like this. He was saying, I care about you, so let's take that financial problem. We're saying, lord, if you can pay this bill, if you can give me this money. And he's saying, the money is simple, but the belief is hard. Okay? The money's simple. God can give you the money. God can give you the healing. God can give you the miracle. But he understands that as a human, we are so surrounded by circumstances, and we live in such a world of cause and effect that is hard to wrap our mind around a miracle when we can barely make it through the minute. And so he leaned into that. What I want to share with you Is what do we do when we're so battle weary, when we keep trying to believe and we're like, lord, you got to help me. Because I believe it in my head, but I don't believe it in my heart. Lord, I believe. I know you can, but in my heart, I'm struggling with the possibility that it could actually happen. And so this is. This first thing I want to share with you five things. And this first thing is understand cognitive dissonance. Now, what cognitive dissonance is, is you are struggling to hold a belief. You believe it with your head, but you don't with your heart. Okay? It's kind of like, I remember I had this client one time, and she's like, all right, I know I'm supposed to say positive affirmations over myself, okay? And I'm. I'm looking in the mirror, and I was told to look in the mirror and speak over my body and say, I am slim and healthy and energetic. But when I look in the mirror, I just see this, like, really, really obese woman staring back at me. And it's hard for me to even say that and feel like I'm telling the truth. So we had to work around that. Sometimes your. Your mind is just like, I'm. I don't believe it. Like, kind of BS alert, right? Which BS is Belief system BS alert. Like, no, you don't really believe it. You're saying it out of your mouth, but you don't really believe it, do you? So let's take all this shame off. It's just cognitive distance. It's a. It's a concept that so far out of your current reality, it's hard for you to grasp. So that's what this man was dealing with. He's like, lord, I believe, but help my unbelief. Because every day I am. I am on edge. I. I wake up wondering, is my child going to drown today? Is he going to get burned in the fire today? Like. Like, I had been dealing with this for years. Every day, the thought in the back of my mind, is my child going to live through today? And so he was struggling with this. And sometimes you just have to honor where you are right now. Like, there's sometimes, you know, in some chapters of life where it's like, we wake up every day and we just can't extract this thought of a painful reality out of our head. And when we try to. And we're, like, speaking all the words, and we're soaking up the word, and we're, like, fighting the good Fight of faith. We get weary and we're like. It's hard for me to grasp it today because I'm so bombarded with the reality of it. Like, think about this man who, you know, barely rescues his son out of the fire. He could have, like, you know, he could have had burns on his body, and he's seeing these burns and he's like, ah, how much longer do I have to believe for this, for it to happen, that my son can be healed? So we have to understand it's just cognitive dissonance. This is what's going on. And have mercy with yourself in that place. Now, this leads me to number two, and Jesus has mercy. So this idea that we have to hold the faith and it's all up to us and we could ruin it at any time. Like, I remember I heard this one person, she was speaking, and she said, you know, don't pull up your sprouts before they get to grow into a harvest. And what she's talking about is like, don't let doubt destroy what you've been trying to plant in faith. I get it. But think about, you know, when you're really going through it. You're like, I know I'm doubting, and now I'm destroying everything. Now there's no way it could ever happen because I'm just doubting right now. You kind of get into this what's the point? Kind of attitude, and you will easily give up on the fight of faith. But I want you to know Jesus has. Has, like, joy in your faith, but he also has mercy in your fear. He never is out of mercy. So I'm going to be so bold as to say he is okay that you're struggling in your faith. He's okay with it. He's not like, oh, now, come on, chin up, little buckaroo. You know, don't. Don't ruin it. You built so much faith, now don't. Don't tear it apart right now and destroy this miracle and it'll never happen if you do. He's a compassionate, kind, merciful savior. And if he had mercy to die for you and your sinful state, I think he has mercy to still work in your life and work for this miracle, even in your state of unbelief. That's what's so great about Jesus. He's not holding this faith gauge over you saying, hope you don't screw it up today because if you fear, you blew it. No, he's so merciful and he loves you so much, so you're not disappointing Jesus with your unbelief. You're just showing that you're human, okay? You're just showing you're real. You're just showing that you have doubt. And that's part of the whole human recipe, right? We are as much divinity as we are humanity. And just like Jesus, he is God in man form. He had to show what's possible, which means he had the same struggle. He's there in the garden of Gethsemane, saying, lord, if there's any way, please not Lord. Father, if there's any way, please take this cup from me. He didn't want to have to go through what he had to go through. But then he said this amazing thing on the heels of it. But not my will, but thine be done. So we have to understand that Jesus is 100% okay with your faith struggle. He's not judging you. He's not holding condemnation over you. He's not removing the miracle possibility from your life just because you doubt. He is there to stand beside you in this fight of faith. He's there to help you. He's there to usher you through it. But I truly believe if we get the miracle prematurely, we won't become the person that God has designed us to be to hold the miracle. Okay, I really want you to think about that. Because sometimes we're like, why hasn't it happened yet? Like, every day, like, I'm believing for this. I ain't seeing any signs, right? Okay, I did lose the house. Okay? I couldn't pay the bill. My lights were turned off. What happened to the miracle? If it came prematurely, you would not be the person with that story, with that power, with that wisdom, with that strength who had to continue the fight until they got into the promised land. Like you get into the promised land in 11 days, baby. But sometimes there is a 40 year journey. Not that it's going to take you 40 years, okay? But sometimes it feels like a 40 year journey because it's trying to get us out of Egypt as much as it's trying to get the Egypt out of us. Like we are, we want to enter that promised land, but there's too much in us that needs to be cleansed and purified. And it can only happen through that fight of faith. So Jesus is okay with it. So we have to go to number three now and understand that belief. A battle. There is no period in your life when it's like, oh, I figured it out. It's all done. It all worked. This is great. I'm done. Well, that'll happen, but you won't be alive anymore. You'll be looking at Jesus face to face. Hopefully he will be. But understand that as long as we're alive, there are going to be areas in our life where we're learning to grow in our belief, where we have the battles right in front of us. So I want to share this with you. This is Hebrews 4:11. And it says, let us labor therefore to enter into that restless any man fall after the same example of unbelief. Now here's where the true fight is. The true fight is not. How can I like white knuckle my faith today? It's not. How can I be righteous enough today? It's not. What do I have to do for God today so I can get my miracle? That's never it. That's never the fight. The fight is not to like. The fight is not to grip on to the belief even though you know, you don't really hold it. The fight is to calm the f down. Now, when I say calm the f down, I'm talking about calm the fear down. I don't know what you were thinking. Calm the fear down. That's so critical then. That's. That's why the Bible says to labor to enter that rest. Now I want to show you what the. This is the living Bible version of Hebrews 4:11. It says, Let us do our best to go into that place of rest too, being careful not to disobey God. And as the children of Israel did, thus failing to get in, so the children of Israel failed to get into the promised land because they disobeyed, okay? Not because they doubted. It was what they did in their doubt the disobedience. They allowed fear to rule instead of faith. Fear caused them to make an idol. Fear caused them to rebel against God. Fear caused them to. To. To sin in their state like it was. It was what happened in the. In that fear state that caused them to be kept out of their promised land. Now, what is going to keep you out of your promised land? Your promised land is whatever miracle you're believing for. Hold that miracle. Think about it. Right now, if you're listening to me while you're driving or watching me or whatever, I want you to hold on to that thing you're believing for. It could be a healing. It could be a restored marriage. It could be for your child to come back from their prodigal chapter. It could be a financial miracle. It could be a job, whatever that is. I want you to think about that. And I want. I want you to realize the only thing that could keep me out of that is to let my fear cause me to do something that would be in disobedience to God. God is okay with your fear, but he's not okay with what you do in your fear that could cause you to stay stuck. So your battle is not how hard do I hold this belief. Your battle is how much can I allow myself to rest? That's it, honey. That's it. We have to labor to enter the rest. We fight hard to enter the rest. But I love the living Bible version. It says, let us do our best to go into that place of rest. So I know sometimes with that fear, you know, your. Your adrenaline's pumping, the cortisol's up, your amygdala's freaking out. I understand that. And we're like, oh, I'm good. I'm good. I'm believing. No, you're not. You're afraid. And it's okay. Okay? But the only way you can calm down is to consciously meditate on the most favorable outcome. And this is what God told me. I'm going to share this with you. When I was going through this struggle, we were really believing for a financial miracle, and I was not seeing it. And it was getting very, very scary. It was getting like, lose my house scary. It was getting like, pull my kids out of school scary. It was getting like, that scary. And I remember one day I was reading the. Reading the Bible, and I was like, okay, maybe I. Maybe I need a fast. I'll fast for three days, and maybe I'll get a revelation or something. I know, fasting works for me, right? It's not like getting God to do anything. It works for me. Maybe I need to fast for a few days. Maybe I need to. You know, I'm just going down the list. What do I need to do? And I remember hearing from the Holy Spirit, and I think this is going to bless you, too. I remember hearing this one thing, Hannah. All I want you to do is focus on how much I love you, how much I love you. I want you to think about that right now. Whatever that battle is, hold that. And I want. I want you to just hold it. Like, let's. Let's. Let's put your two hands on. If you can. If you're driving, keep your hands on the steering wheel, but I want you to put two hands out in front of you, and in one hand, I want you to hold that scary, scary thing. Okay? That scary Frightening thing. Hold the reality of. Because you're thinking it. I'm just saying it. Like you're already thinking, I'm going to lose a house or my kids not going to have a healing or. Or my marriage is going to fall apart. Or, you know, just hold the thing. Unless, like, oh, well, that's what. That's what I'm thinking. Here it is. I'm just going to pull it out of my head and look at it. Okay, there it is. Okay. You may as well, because we all know you're thinking it. So holding your hand now in this other hand, I want you to try to hold how much God loves you like he who did not spare even his own son, but gave him up for us all. Will he not, with his son, give us all these things? Give us these things we're believing for now. Think about how much he loves you, that love. Your hand can't hold it. Your heart can't hold it. This whole world can't hold it. It's so huge, it's so vast, it's so high, it's so deep, it's so wide, it's so strong. There's no way you can even comprehend the love of God. That was one of Paul's most fervent prayers. Like, I pray that you can at least try to comprehend how much God loves you. But I want you to imagine how much God loves you and feel it in this hand. And now when you put them together, which one wins out? Which one wins out? It's his love. Nothing in this world, no pain, no reality is greater than how much God loves you. So when we add that love to the equation, all of a sudden that feels fear, calms the F down. We can calm the fear down because now we've let God's love really soak into that place. Be like, you know what? Even if this were true, his love still sustains me. I'm still good. I'm still good. And that place of love, that's what we're talking about. When I say enter into that rest, that's your real struggle. Not what you do, not the revelation you have, not the next step, but just to rest and know, I'm so loved. And he's got me and I'm so loved. Now, how does that make your body feel? Right? It calms you. Got it? It calms the fear down. All right, now, number four, this is what I want to share with you too, is when Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane, he asked his disciples to pray to stay awake with him. You know, you kind of want to be that support. Like, here I am, I'm about to go to the cross, I'm about to be crucified. Can you at least like stay awake and like chill with me for a minute? Like support me in this? They fell asleep and he said this, this is Matthew 26:41. He said, the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. So every time we are in this battle of Lord, I believe, but help my unbelief because I'm feeling scared, that is not going to happen. Lord, I believe, help my unbelief. Every time we're in this battle, we have to understand it's really between the spirit and the flesh. The spirit can believe, the spirit's willing. And you are a spirit, but you're in a body. So you are a spirit. You have a soul which is your mind, your will, your emotions, but you're in a body. So that's why we're in the world, but not of the world. Because we're spirit, we're made from God, but we're still in the world, we're still a human. So what I want to share with you about that is the spirit is willing, but the flesh, that your circumstances, what we can see, touch, hear, taste, that's real too. So every time we're struggling, we have to realize when I'm weak, I'm looking at the flesh, I'm looking at my circumstances, I'm looking at that tangible reality. But when I'm strong, that's when I am in my natural state, which is spirit and I am loved and I can rest in that belief that God's working all things out for my good. So understand, like kind of take a gauge of your body. Am I strong or weak right now? If I'm weak, I've lost my joy looking at the flesh and the flesh is weak, the spirit is willing. So can I be willing to believe just one day more? Can I stay in this place of rest just one day more and tomorrow we can make the decision again. Now I want to share with you, this is number five and I just wanted to share the story with you is today when I was on my hike, I tried to go on a three mile hike every morning, but not the weekends. But I was there and I was just meditating and praying and just thanking God. And I saw this beautiful swan and the swan was on the water and decided to take off. And I don't know if you've ever seen a swan try to get Airborne. But it's like he is flapping those wings and flapping those wings. He's a big creature, right? And it's flapping and flapping and flapping and flapping and flapping and flapping. And you're like, he's not going anywhere. Like, he's literally just like gliding on the wall. Like, I thought, okay, he's going to stop at any moment because his little wings have got to be getting tired, right? Because he's flapping and flapping and flapping. And all of a sudden, there's this moment, right, when I thought he was going to give up, that he was airborne. He lifted up and he took off. And it was beautiful to watch. And I'm saying this. You take control of your mouth. You keep speaking the miracle, you keep resting, and you keep flapping those wings. Every day I'm going to do the thing I need to do. I'm going to show up strong. I'm going to speak out the truth. Even though I'm surrounded with lies. I'm going to believe this. I'm going to rest in this place I'm just doing today. And I'm saying, if you keep yapping and you keep flapping, there is this moment when that Holy Spirit wind comes up underneath you, and all of a sudden you can soar. Now, it may not be today, it may not be tomorrow, but it is not far off. I am telling you this in the name of Jesus. It is not far off. If you're willing to keep yapping out the word of God, even though you're so tempted to speak doubt and fear, even if you keep yapping it out and you keep holding that rest and you keep showing up every day like you show up strong. Watch that Holy Spirit when it's going to turn and it's going to turn at the perfect time, because then you'll be strong enough. Because you've been flapping and yapping long enough, you will be strong enough to now soar where God has called you. Just because you're in a battle doesn't mean that promised land is far off. So, yeah, Lord, I believe. And now help my unbelief, because he will. He'll enter that space and he'll nurture you and he's got you and he'll walk you through it. And I want you to know I'm praying and I'm believing with you, too, friend. I love you and I know you keep yapping and flapping and calm the F down. You, my friend, are going to be blessed like crazy.
