Mom Coach Hannah Keeley teaches mothers to reduce chronic stress by recognizing God as their sole source of provision, rather than money, relationships, or health. She calls misplaced worship "sorcery" and links it to anxiety using Scripture passages like Psalm 91:1 and Matthew 6:24-25. The episode walks through identifying stress patterns and choosing repentance to break the cycle.

Moms in stress. It seems like the two go hand in hand, right? Well, until now. That's right. In today's episode, we're diving into stress and here's the deal. We're not going to learn how to manage stress. We're going to learn how to get rid of it for good. Welcome to Mom Mastery University. The education every mom should have had, but moms didn't. I'm Hannah Keeley, America's number one mom coach. And class is now in session. Hey, hey, hey there, mama. Welcome to Mom Master University. And if you are stressed out of your mind, well, you're in the right place at the right time. Because in our coaching series for this month, we're going to talk about the secret place. Place. See, there's a place that you can get to where stress is not a problem. See, so many times we're taught to manage stress instead of overcome it. But we're going to do something really crazy in this coaching series. We're going to get rid of stress for good. You doubt me? Then stick with me. Let me prove myself. Because there is a place we can get to and I'm going to walk you there. So in this coaching session, this is part one of a three part coaching series called the Secret Place. And in part one, we're going to learn about the first key. See, there are three keys to creating a life that is free of stress. I'm talking to moms who have mom brain. This is the only place where you can get coaching designed for the mom brain. And there's a reason why so many moms have tried to overcome stress and try to manage it. But stress is still a recurring problem. And here's what we're taught, that we just have to live with it. Well, you don't have to just live with it because God has designed a life for you, mom, that is free of stress. Now, there are three keys to unlock this secret place where you are free of stress. So I'm going to walk you through all of those keys and we're going to unlock this new life for you that is joyful, abundant, peaceful, where stress is not an issue. So this first key in this first part we're going to talk about, establish your source. So that's key number one. Establish your source. And our key verse in this entire series is Psalm 91:1. Let me read that to you. It says, he who dwells in the secret place of the most high shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty, whose power no foe can withstand. This is the secret place so we can all dwell there. And that secret place is a place where we are stable, where we're fixed, and where we're not wavering and frantic and spiraling with stress. See, being stable and fixed is the opposite of being stressed. And that is found in the secret place. And we're going to unlock how to get there. But the first thing is we have to establish our source. So there are ways to establish our source and. And hang with me, because I'm going to really work this out for you. So this is simple and practical. Now understand this first thing. We are all made to worship. Every man and woman on this planet is designed by God, is created in us. This need to worship. Now what worship is is basically recognizing something or someone actually as our source, our source of sustenance, our source of joy, our source of life. And it's. And worship is that giving back, that opening up and acknowledging, yes, you're my source. You're my everything. Now we are all made to worship. In Psalm 156, it says this. Let everything that has breath and every breath of life praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Hallelujah. What this means is we are all made to worship and all of us are praising something as our source. See, we learn early on what our source is. Let me explain this to you. See, we learn early, even as children, what our source is. As a baby, you learn that your source is your mother, that, that milk, that provider. You learn to seek that out, to cry. And that cry is answered, right? And that's how we learn what our source is. And that's how we're. That's how we figure out what our worship is. So we have to decide once and for all what our source is. Now here's the problem. A lot of times we operate by an orphan spirit. So let me explain quickly what that is. An orphan spirit is basically self worship. It's that concept that I am my own source. Now think about it. Usually stress comes from this place where you have made yourself your own source. And how do you know that? Because here are the thoughts that come up in your mind. I need to figure this out. It's all up to me. I need to do this. Have you ever recognized some of those thoughts coming up in your head if you're a mom? This can often run on autopilot. It's so common and we play it so often we don't even recognize it. But it's this idea that we are the critical element now. Yes, moms are the Critical element. I totally agree with that. However, when we worship ourselves and make ourselves our source, we're saying I am the critical element that has to hold this together. My kids, my marriage, the money, the house, all the errands, the chores, the budget, my health, everyone else's health, everything is dependent upon me. Now, yes, moms fall into this role all the time. I get it. But the more we cement that in our head, that we are the only critical element holding everything together, the more stress we create in our life. Think about it. Because we become so. It just becomes this critical energy. It's all riding on me. Do you even feel the stress as I say that? It's all riding on me. Oh my gosh, that is so terrifying to think about. Now I want to dive into this idea of our source. Okay, we worship our source. If God is your source. We worship God. If you are your source and you have to figure things out and it all depends upon you, then that is self worship. If money is your source, you have learned to worship money. Now there's this term sorcery. Like, Hannah, what are you talking about? Sorcery? It's like witchcraft, right? And we all would, would immediately say, oh, well, that's evil. That's wrong. However, I want you to understand what sorcery is. Sorcery just is recognizing a source that is not God. Now, a lot of people who are listening or watching right now would be like, I would never, like, never dive into sorcery. I would never dive into witchcraft. But. But in a very general sense, that's what we're doing every time we make something our source other than God. Think about it. If money is your source and all you're thinking about is, I need to make more money, I need to make sure I have enough money, I need to spend less, I need to avoid these bills, what am I going to do? How am I going to pay for this? All that kind of stuff. Our thoughts are dwelling on money. And where we meditate becomes what our source is. And our source, if it's not. If we're not stable and fixed, right? And that can only happen in God, and we're not stable and fixed, we're going to be wavering, which creates stress. Like, who immediately can recognize what money stress feels like? Marriage stress, it's all up to me. Health stress, it's all up to me to make sure my kids are healthy, they stay alive. All of that is a form. I know it sounds odd, but it is a form of sorcery because we have Become our own source, or we're making something other than God our source. So we have to establish our source. We have to get super clear on God as our source because it's the second point. We can't have two sources. We will always be plugged in to one. Think about when you're plugging in your hair dryer, right? There aren't two cords. You can't plug into two outlets. Your hair dryer can only plug into one outlet, right? And so that's how we're created. And we're designed to only plug into one source. That's why we can't serve God. And mammon, which is the word for like, evil, riches, riches that are meant, that are deceitful, that we put our trust in them. It doesn't come through. That's what the word mammon means, deceitful riches. So we're either grafted into God or we're grafted in to this world. A supernatural source or a natural source. Let me read this to you. This is Matthew 6:24 25. It says this. No one can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in. Did you catch that? I'm reading the class classic amplified version. Whatever is trusted in that doesn't necessarily even need to be money. It could be a person, it could be a relationship, right? Therefore, this is a verse 25. Therefore I tell you, stop being perpetually uneasy, anxious and worried about your life. What you shall eat or what you shall drink, or your body which you shall put on. Is not life greater in quality than food and the body far above and more excellent than clothing? Now, I want you to notice something so cool about this passage. Again, I read Matthew 6:24, 25, 24 said, you can't serve two masters. That was the stress that. Not. I'm using stress way too much. That was a focus of that, of that verse, right? You can't serve two masters. Then it immediately jumps to the next verse. Stop being anxious and worried. Do you see that? They've tied that together. That in that passage is very cleverly tied together, that the cause of your stress is what you have made your source. Okay, the first verse, you can't have two sources. You're gonna be. You're gonna be plugging in the hairdryer into one outlet. So you're gonna be Plugging in your life into one source, it's either gonna be, I trust in God or I trust in money. I trust in a natural source. I trust any person in a relationship, in, in a medicine, in money, whatever that is. If it's natural, then we have switched our God to an idol. Are you catching that? Stress is a form of idol worship? Because our peace relies on the source that we plug into. Now, if our source is a natural substance, think about it. That is not stable and fixed, right? Money comes and goes, relationships are great, and then they can crash, medicines can come through, and then sometimes they can't, right? And so we have to decide if I'm going to plug into the natural, then I am creating stress for myself because that is not a guaranteed source. It can fluctuate. Now, when I plug into the supernatural source, which is God, we know that there is no shadow of turning in God. There is no changing in God. He is stable, he is fixed, he is secure. He is. He always has been, he always will be. There's no shadow of turning like God is stable. So if we're going to have stability and peace in our life, this means we have to stop worshiping an idol, which is a naturally created God, and start plugging in and worshiping a supernatural source, which is God Almighty. Because that is the only thing that can bring stability. So worry is idol worship. That's another point that I want you to understand. I want to read to you Exodus 24:6. I think this is going to make sense for you. Okay? It says this. You shall not make yourself any graven image to worship it, or any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down yourself to them or serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing mercy and steadfast love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. Now, I want to pull out a few points here. It says, don't make yourself a God that is in the heavens above or the earth or under the earth, right? So it's saying, like, a lot of people will worship the universe, right? The constellations, the stars, they have their faith in that. Now we understand that that's not the Creator, that is a creation. So idol worship means I've turned something created in to my God. The heavens were created, the earth was created the water was created by the Creator, which is God. So he's saying, don't turn something I created into your God. Just let me be your God. Because he is the only thing that is stable. It has to come out of the Creator. But I want to pull something out here too, because it says that when we do idol worship, when we do bow down and serve other gods, when we do make our source something that is natural, then what we're doing is we are hating him. It's like, wow, Hannah, that's kind of intense. Well, I didn't say it. The Bible said it. It said, you. You shall not bow down yourself to them or serve them for the Lord your God. I'm a jealous God. Visiting the. The iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me. Now, hate sounds strong. Okay, so you're saying if I stress, I hate God. Well, hold on a minute. It's not that you hate God. It's like this, okay? In a marriage, you can love your spouse, right? And you're supposed to love your spouse, okay? You love your spouse, but if you go to someone else, okay, you're married, you love your spouse, but you go to someone else to meet your needs for intimacy, right? To meet your. To meet your need for connectivity, to meet your need for sex, you go to someone else to meet that need. It can be interpreted as hate. Like, think about it. Someone like, let's say, you know, here's someone. They. They committed adultery. They went to someone outside of their marriage to meet that need for intimacy and sex. The. The partner would say, wow, you must really hate me, right? They would feel hated. They would feel despised. This is how God feels when we meet our need in a source that is other than him. Because we have a covenant with God. We have that, you know, Jesus is the. The. The groom, the church, which is the people. Not a building, not an institution. The people are the bride, okay? We are the family of God. So when we go outside of this beautiful covenant, and that's how. That's the whole template of marriage, is to illustrate that relationship between Jesus and. And the church. When we go outside of God, outside of our righteousness, our source of righteousness, to meet whatever need we have, that is considered really spiritual adultery because we are covenanted with God. And he wants to be our total source. So anything other than God that's your source will always become your source of destruction. So he listened to me. Anything other than God, money, your marriage, your children, a lot of Moms are like, you know, they, they make their children their God because they're so, like, really obsessed and, and overly concerned. And they make it like their children's performance as kind of like their badge that they're doing enough as a mom. So your health, anything that we make our source will eventually become our source of destruction if that source is outside of God. So you're tracking with me. All right, listen to this first Timothy 6:10. It says this. For the love of money is a root of all evils. Does it say money's evil? No, money's really good. It helps us do a lot of great things in this world. For the love of money is a root of all evils. It is through this craving that some have been led astray and have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves through with many acute mental pains, y'. All. Acute mental pains. Doesn't that sound like debilitating anxiety? Acute mental pain? So you are you. It's just this excruciating feeling in your mind of like, oh my gosh, I'm so stressed out. I'm so worried. I'm so preoccupied with this. I can't stop thinking about it. What you're doing is when. When that happens, when stress takes a form like that, then what happens is you're really meditating on the worst case scenario instead of the best case scenario, which is what God wants for you. God wants to bless you. He wants to prosper you, bring some joy to prosper you. But stress, when stress takes a hold of you, you have. You pulled your source, right? You. You unplugged from God and you plugged into something natural that's become your source. That's why it says that we pierce ourselves through with many acute mental pains. It's this piercing anxiety. That's if you've ever had debilitating anxiety and I have, right? It feels almost like you've got this monster just sitting on your chest, right? Maybe you feel it in your shoulders, maybe you clinch your jaw. But the worst thing is what's happening in your head. And it almost feels like a internal rage. I can't control this. I must control this, but I can't control this. So if you know what I'm talking about, you know what I'm talking about. So that is what stress is. It's the mental pains because we now love money. Now understand this. The love of money means I've made money my source. Money is the natural system of commerce, right? Faith is, is what we use as commerce in the supernatural realm. Money is what we use for commerce in the natural realm. Okay? That's what you exchange for goods and services. Money in the supernatural, what do you exchange for goods and services? Faith. So we have taken money and we have made that what we trust in. Think about it. You can look at a, at a dollar bill and it says, in God we trust. Like, don't get it twisted, y'. All. We don't, we don't put our trust in money. If you do that, you are crazy. Creating stress for yourselves because it was never designed to be our source. God is designed to be our source. So we have to keep our trust in God and use the money. Okay? We, we love, we love God, we use money. We don't use God and love money. There's a big difference. So here's another point. Stress comes from not enough. Always. If you look at your stress and if you really analyze it, you will find that has its roots in some type of scarcity. It believes there's not enough. So stress comes from not enough. Think about, I don't, I don't have enough knowledge. Have you ever thought like, oh, I gotta figure this out. I can't figure this out. I'm not smart enough. I'm too stupid. Stress, right? Stress comes from not enough money. What am I gonna do about these bills? How am I going to pay for that? If I just had more money, I'd be able to do this and all of that, right? Stress comes from not enough love. That is a very, very deep rooted sense of stress that can often come from childhood is I always have to perform to be accepted and loved. I just, I'm just not worthy of love. So we're constantly trying to outperform ourselves so that we feel more worthy of being loved. Stress comes from not enough health. Right now I'm worried about my body. I'm worried about like I can see myself aging. I can see myself with this disease. What's going to happen? I'm seeing like this disease eating me up or this injury happening. And now we've become obsessed with that. So stress comes from not enough. Think about it. Anytime we plug into a source, we're trying to fill any scarcity or lack that's in our life. Now when we plug into God, awesome. Because he is the all sufficient one, right? When he is all sufficient, that means whatever we're lacking, we are filled with his presence. And that now gives us a sense of overflow, abundance, peace, that solid planted nature. But anytime we have a lack and or we feel scarcity, we Plug into a natural source. I need more money, I need more love, I need better health, I need a better relationship, whatever that is not sufficient to meet the needs. Because we were designed by God to be filled by God and not to be filled from an adulterated source, which is anything that is in the natural realm. You tracking with me and you can see, like, if you like. I want you to think about the last time you were stressed out, okay? Last time you were stressed out, I bet you can see that it was caused by some area, area in your life when you felt like you didn't have enough. There was lack there, there was insufficiency. So your mind became preoccupied with trying to fill the need which caused you to plug in to a natural source. Stress always comes from that. So stress will always point you back to your source. Always. Stress will always point you back to your source. So think about this. We're going to work through this in real time, okay? I want you to think about when the last time you were stressed. Hold that idea in your mind. We're going to do this right now, real time, okay? Hold that idea in your mind. What images came to your mind when you felt stressed? What images is probably like your future focused on a situation that was not very favorable, right? It focused out of fear or insufficiency. So what images came to mind when last time you felt stressed? What do you imagine last time you felt stressed? What do you imagine is not secure in your life? Is it your money's not secure, Is it the marriage isn't secure? Is it your children? Is it? Is it your health? Is it your home? Something is not secure. Now let's go to the next step. The step number three. What variables in my life, when they're full, cause me to feel safe, caused me to feel relief and stability? So this is a good way to see what source you're plugged into. What areas in my life, when they're full, I have a sense of relief and stability. Is it when I finally feel respected in my marriage, when I finally see like a large enough number in my bank account? Is it when I get a good report from the doctor that I feel relief and I don't feel relief outside of that? That's how you know what you're plugged into, okay? I really do this work. This is the best work you can ever do. This is how we, we leverage the mom brain to get the best results in life, okay? Is we do the work. Now. The fourth step is this. What do I have a pattern of Pursuing to make me feel safe? What do I have a pattern of pursuing to make me feel safe? Do you pursue an individual, maybe your spouse, or maybe you're not married. And you pursue the comfort of having a partner in your life? Okay, do you pursue money to make you feel safe? Do you pursue better health? Now, nothing's wrong with pursuing that. Nothing's wrong with pursuing money. Nothing's wrong with pursuing a better relationship. But when it's to feel relief and to feel full, that is when it has become an idol, and that is when stress is created. But am I pursuing health? Because that's the only way I can feel relief. That's the only way I can. I can really feel safe. As if I know that the numbers are good and I'm okay, right? When I know the MRI is clean. Like, is that the only time I can really feel safe? So this key, we've got to get this one key and this. And in this session right now, we're going to establish this one key. What is your source? So here's how we do it. We need to decide once and for all what your source is. Okay? Decide that right now what your source is. And don't try to deceive yourself, okay? Because your subconscious knows now, this is not a shift that you make one time, and it's a one and done. I want you to be merciful, be compassionate with yourself, and understand that sometimes I'll switch back, sometimes I'll unplug from that outlet and I'll plug into another outlet. But guess what? I'm going to be operate with discernment, with wisdom. I'm going to see, I'm going to observe it, and I'm going to intentionally plug in to God. He is my source. So here's the deal. God is either everything or he's nothing. I want you to hold that thought. He's everything in my life or he's nothing. You see, there's no such thing as a convenient God. God says he is a jealous God. He wants all of us. Why is he jealous? Because his desire is. Is to bless you. His desire is to see you happy, joyful, living in abundance, living with freedom, living with peace. That's his desire. Just like any good parent would desire that for their children. So that's why he's jealous. He's like, please do things my way because I know what works for you. I designed you. I know it works for you. And he doesn't want to be just one of our solutions. He wants to be the solution that's why he cannot be a convenient God. He's not just something you may go to. He is your go to, right? So when. When the pressure is on, think about it. Any. Anytime pressure's on, something what's inside comes outside, right? If you had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and you squish that thing down, guess what? Jelly and peanut butter would be all over your fingers. So we have to think about it. When the pressure's on from our natural environment, when there is pressure, financial pressure, when there's pressure in your marriage, when there's pressure, performing, when there's pressure, cultural pressure, whatever that looks like, what is inside will come outside. That's kind of like the test to know what your source is. How do I react when I don't feel safe, when I feel compromised? Is it, I'm going to go to God, or is it I'm going to run through all the scenarios in my head and try to think of what my solution is, right? So first, it may look like repentance. Repentance is not a bad word, okay? It's not an archaic word. It's actually something we should incorporate a lot more often, because we can't change something until we can repent of something that may be damaging to us. So I want to read this to you. This is Psalm 51, verse 16:17. For you delight not in sacrifice, or else would I give it. You find no pleasure in burnt offering my sacrifice. The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit. You hear that? Broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, broken down with sorrow for sin, and humbly and thoroughly penitent. Such, O God you will not despise. So think about this. David wrote this, okay? This is a song that was written by David right after he had sinned with Bathsheba. And we know about that story, right? He was checking her out, butt naked, sitting there bathing. Oh, look at that woman. I think I want a little more. I think I want a piece of that, right? Caused him to sin. And now. And that just. It just started a, like, chain effect. One bad thing after another in his life. And finally he was, like, caught in the sin. It was like, oh, my gosh, I am so sorry. It was that broken spirit. It's like, man, I. I screwed up. I'm sure we've all felt that at one time or another. I really screwed up. Here's the deal. We could bring that to God not as a way of, like, condemning ourselves, but just a way of being realistic and saying, I was plugged into the wrong source. I screwed up. And guess what? That's okay. I'm telling you, your mistakes are not a surprise to God, okay? We're human. We're designed to make mistakes. And. And so as long as we don't hide that from God, he already knows that anyway. We can bring it to Him. And then that penitent heart, that. That repentance, that broken spirit of, like, you know what, man? I have been depending upon money as my source. I've been basically, like, committing idolatry by putting my marriage before my God or putting my children before my God or my health or my money or whatever. That's all he needs. And then he can step in and do the work. But it usually does require a bit of repentance before, maybe a lot of repentance. If stress has been a real issue, I'm probably the only coach in the entire world that will tell you. One of the first steps on getting rid of stress for good is to be repentant of what you have major source, if it is anything other than God. So we have to have that repentant spirit, and we have to, like, God has already figured it out, okay? God knows the solution for you. And so we now, instead of trying to figure it out on our own, we can go to God and say, God, I just want what you want. I just, you're my source, and I'm going to learn to work with my thoughts, right? So I can trust in you. So we have to establish our source as God first. Key, I'm going to be plugged into God through Jesus. That's the only way. How do you establish it? You meditate on it. You practice it. You intentionally realize, like, every time you feel that stress, Right? Every time you feel that stress, you know, wait a minute. I unplugged. So I want that to be a little, like, anchor for you. When you feel the stress, whatever it feels like in your body, whether it's like tension in your chest, maybe a feeling in the pit of the stomach, maybe a tightening of your jawline, maybe your shape, shoulders get, get, you know, clenched up a little bit. Whenever you feel that, I want you to think, wait a minute, have I unplugged? Like, it is my mantra I go to a lot of times. It's like every time I'm starting to go into worry or stress, I just say this, hold up, wait a minute. Put a little super in it. The problem is I'm thinking naturally and not supernaturally. All right, say that with me. Ready? Hold up, wait a minute. Put a little super in it. That's all we have to do just to create awareness around what our source of stress is and then decide, nope, God is my source. He is everything or he is nothing. Now, this was just our first key establishing your source. We're going to move on to key number two, A key number three in the next coaching session.
