Hannah Keeley was asked to emcee a conference while sick and used it to explain two choices when obstacles hit: resignation or inspiration. She argues obstacles aren't punishments but compass points from God, and choosing inspiration builds the mental muscle to handle future challenges.

Have you ever started making progress towards something and then all of a sudden, out of the blue you hit an obstacle, you hit a road bump, something goes wrong. Well, there's two ways you can go. We're going to talk about those two ways in this podcast. Here's the big question. How are these average everyday moms getting radical results in their lives? How are they able to transform their health, money, families, homes, and have fun doing it? The trick? We're not average. I'm Hannah Keeley and I'm going to spill our secrets and answer your questions right now in that mom show. All right, so let me give you a little background information. I am sitting here in a hotel and I'm about to go into a meeting. Well, not a meeting, a conference. Tomorrow I'm here for a conference and it's my good friend Jennifer Allwood. She's having her equipped conference. And I'm so excited about it because I'm not just going to be attending the conference, I'm going to be emceeing the conference. It's funny because when she asked me if I've ever emceed before, I said, yeah, absolutely. In my mind, she said, well, I'm going to pray about it and I'll call you back. And she decided to invite me to emcee her event. I am so honored. I'm so excited. It kicks off tomorrow morning and here I am in a hotel room battling a cold. Can you believe it? Now you know how I am. I believe everything physical comes out of the spiritual. And so I had to look and say, okay, what's the deal here? What's really going on here? That's a question that I. All the students inside Mom Master University, we get that drilled into us. What's really going on here? We always have to ask that question when circumstances arise in our life. So just on the heels of a recent conference, I spoke, actually was last Sunday, I spoke at the Bridge Church in Scotland and preached there and spoke at one of their conferences there for women. And then I come back and I'm doing this conference this weekend and all of a sudden, in between, a couple days ago, I started feeling bad. My throat started getting scratchy and I just wasn't putting up with it. You know me, I'm not going to ever say there's sickness on me. I'm not ever going to say, oh, I don't feel good. Like, none of that. I am constantly speaking faith, so I never really felt bad, right? Because I believe everything starts in the mind. And if I can. If I can train my mind that I feel good and I have energy and I'm. I'm vibrant and I'm healthy, then my body has to correspond. And so I never really felt bad, like, the past couple days. Never really felt bad. I did have a very scratchy throat yesterday, and you can probably tell I have a very scratchy throat today. But here's the deal. Sorry, I had to take a sip of tea there. When we start doing things we're unfamiliar with, and how familiar am I with being an mc? Like, not at all, like, zero percent, right? So I have no. I don't even, y'. All. I like, you're gonna listen to this after it's already happened, so hopefully I have a little more information. Hopefully it'll be a positive experience. It'll be exciting. Make sure you listen to the next podcast episode. I'll tell you all about it. But right now, I'm just like, I. I don't know, like, I'm unfamiliar. I've, you know, I've learned about all the people who are. Who are going to be speaking and got some cool backstory on them, and it's going to be fun. And of course, I love, love being on stage and just, you know, just. Just getting excited with my audience. I love that. I love, like, being part of the whole energy there. So. But it still is very unfamiliar. And when something like that happens, we'll usually. Sorry. Things will come at us to throw us off track. And you've probably experienced that before. Like, maybe you started a new business, and all of a sudden, like, you know, some tax bill hits you out of the blue, and you're like, what? Like, I did not expect this. And. Or maybe you decided to start speaking and all of a sudden, you know, you get this, like, raging fever the day before you're supposed to step on stage for the first time, or, you know, so many things like that. We start down a pathway and we think it's going to look one way, and then an obstacle comes at us because we're unfamiliar. And I think for the most part, those things do. It's not that we make them happen, but I do think we help usher them into existence with our fear of the unknown because we're unfamiliar with it. Now, what I want to tell you is there's two ways you can go with this. Okay, Sorry, you're going to have to be patient with me through this podcast, please. All right. I should take another sip of tea now. There's two ways you can go this And I'm talking about this situation here, but it's. It can be anything. It can be, you start trying to have, you know, go to marriage counseling and all of a sudden, like, you discover something very painful about your partner and that sets you way back. And, you know, we. I discuss some examples like that. But this can apply to anything in your life where you start down a path that's unfamiliar because of the feeling of unrest and unfamiliarity and, yes, fear, because it's unfamiliar. Your brain wants familiar, and when it doesn't have the familiar, it does reach into that primal brain and create a bit of a fear response. So when we have that fear response, we can create and help usher in certain things that throw us off track. For me, it was all of a sudden, I get like this sore throat. Right. And so there's two ways you can go with this. One is the resignation. The resignation. That means you're resigned to. Yep. Well, I guess that's a sign I shouldn't be doing this. Yep. I knew it just. It wouldn't happen. Yeah, I'm just not cut out for it. So it's the resignation. Something happens to throw you off track, and you immediately go back to the place of familiarity that you know and you trust. And even though it's not ideal, you're comfortable with it. You go back to that and you say, you know what? I was better off here. So it's resignation. And it's kind of like that typical. Yep, I kind of knew this would happen. That kind of thing. You go back to that. You resign yourself to what is familiar. Even though it's not successful, it's familiar. Hey, mama. We'll get right back to the podcast, but did you know there is an entire online university just for moms? If you're ready to get radical results in your life, just go to mommastery.com. that's M-O-M-M-A-S-T-E-R-Y.com. make sure you check it out and take your free quiz again. That's mommastery.com M O M M A S T-E-R-Y.com now back to the podcast. Right? Because your brain is not designed for your success, it's designed for your survival. And because of that, it always wants you to stay in a place that's familiar. Even though it's not really creating anything awesome in your life, you'll still go back to the familiar because you're familiar with it. So it's the resignation. Yeah. I Should have known. It's just not meant to be. That's not. That's not for me. Yep. Okay. It's a sign from God. Yeah. All that kind of stuff. The ways we can misread that when all it means is we stepped into unfamiliar territory and we ushered in an obstacle. Now the resignation, we get pushed back. Okay, that is one way. The other way is inspiration. So the first one is resignation. We hit the obstacle, we. We resign ourselves to what was comfortable, and we go back. The second way is inspiration. We hit the obstacle, and we take as a road sign that we're going in the right direction. Do you like the way I said that? It was extra squeaky. I didn't even mean for that to happen, but that inspiration means. Okay, I'm venturing into unfamiliar territory. Yeah, these things happen. So I just have to go over this hurdle. I have to cross over this bridge, and it could be the ricketiest, scariest bridge I'm going to cross over, but I just have to cross over this bridge. It's inspiration. You take it as a sign. Not a sign from God that you should go back, but a sign from God that you're moving in the right direction. I remember talking with one of my mentors one time, and he said, I use obstacles, I use pushback. I use all of that as a compass to know that I'm going in the right direction. And I thought that was so awesome to hear, because here's this guy, he's super successful, multimillionaire, on his road to being a billionaire, and he's like, you know what? I take all of that. Every time I come across it, every time I come across the problems and the obstacles and the pushback, I take it as a sign. It looks like a compass. Okay, I'm going in the right direction. That is the second choice. That is inspiration. You can choose it as. Yep. And here's another moat I'm going to swim across to get closer to the castle that God designed for me to live in. Oh, I need another sip of tea. So that's what I'm choosing. I know it's a mild example. Sorry. Wow. Okay. If we can get past this podcast, we are doing good. Sister or brother. But right now, as I sit in the hotel room sipping on my tea, I choose to reframe it. I choose to see it not as resignation. Like, you know what? I should never have volunteered to emcee. I don't know anything about emceeing an event. I don't belong on that stage. I'm gonna go back to what I'm familiar with. I could have chosen that, or I could have chosen the other option. The second option. Inspiration. You know what? Yeah. This happened. And how I accomplished this will set the stage for how I accomplish the next goal. If I can get past this, then I can get past it again and again and again. It's like building up my muscles for the next challenge, and that's how I choose to go about it. I choose to take it as inspiration, and I'm just reframing it to where it's like, you know what? I don't have a cold. That's baloney. You know what? Just have a creative way to get a super sexy voice. Okay. That's how I choose to reframe it. I just have found a creative way to get a super sexy voice. All right. I can work this. Absolutely. And if I can do this, guess how much better I'm gonna get over the next challenge. So what I'm telling you today is you're probably faced with an obstacle. If you're not, then you're not making any progress because progress is accompanied with obstacles. So when you face that obstacle, you have one of two choices. You can be resigned to go back, or you can be inspired and go forward. Honey, don't go back. You're not meant to live there. God never retreats. God is always expanding, and he means for you to always expand. So face the challenge, reframe it, get excited, and move past it. Just see it as one more exercise to build up your muscles to carry the enormous abundance that God has in store for you. We're gonna get there. We're gonna get there, friend. And we're gonna get there together till next time. And maybe my voice will be a little less sexy. Are you ready to get radical results in your life?
