5 Email Templates To Reach Out To Recruiters

In this instructional video, Helena Liu walks viewers through five concise email templates designed to help job seekers proactively connect with recruiters, hiring managers, current employees, industry contacts, and alumni. She begins by contrasting the passive approach of merely submitting a résumé through an applicant tracking system with the more effective strategy of building a network and securing referrals, which can elevate a candidate to the top of a recruiter’s list. For each template, Helena provides a sample subject line, a brief email script, and a concrete example that demonstrates how to tailor the message with specific achievements, metrics, and a clear call‑to‑action for a short call. The five outreach scenarios covered are: (1) contacting recruiters, (2) reaching out to hiring managers, (3) engaging current employees for insight and referrals, (4) requesting informational interviews for career pivots, and (5) connecting with alumni. Throughout, she emphasizes keeping messages short, results‑focused, and personalized, noting that few candidates take these extra steps, which gives them a significant advantage. The video concludes with a call‑to‑action to download the templates, like, and subscribe.

And so little people do this, by the way. So many people just think, well, You know, I'll just submit my resume and that would be that. It can help you gather more information going into your interview, and a lot of times if the current employee likes you, they could even give you a referral as well. So if you're reaching out to a current employee at the company that you want to work for, a sample subject line could be, learning about your experience at insert the name of the company. Hi name, amazing to see that you just celebrated your X years with X company. Congratulations on your tenure and all of the great things you've done with the firm. So a sample subject line here could be career pivot to insert the industry that you want to pivot to. So you can say, hi name, hope you're doing well. I saw that you insert recent achievement or accomplishment that they've had. And a good place to find this is to just look at their LinkedIn profiles. A lot of times, um, the person that you want to reach out to, their contact information is directly on their LinkedIn profile as well. So it's not very hard to just send this person a request to connect on LinkedIn or to find their email on LinkedIn and send them a direct message as well. So, all right, so let me continue with this email here. Hope you're doing well. I saw that you insert the achievements they've had. Again, keeping it short and sweet, telling the person why you're connecting, what you're hoping to learn from them, and try to transition it to a call to connect with this person a bit deeper. Finally, let's move on to our template number 5, which is reaching out to alumni. So this is finding out someone from your past university university or college who currently works at the company or the role that you want to work at, connecting with them and seeing if they could give you a referral or just learn more about the role. And you can see from these email templates that you are approaching it very lightly. And when people like you, and as they're connecting with you, they can see that, you know, your passion, your enthusiasm is coming through. When they see that, they would naturally want to help you.
