Hello and welcome back to the ExamsPM YouTube channel. We're really glad to have you here where we will give you weekly PMP exam tips. This week's tip is on what is the cost of obtaining your PMP certification. Now in order to obtain your PMP certification, you either need to be a PMI member or a non-member. So let's first talk about the membership. The fee for the PMI membership for the first year is $139 US and is $129 per year after that. If you become a PMI member right now, then your fee to take the PMP exam becomes $405, so your total exam fee is $544. If you are a non-PMI member and you just want to get your PMP certification, you can just pay a flat fee of $555. So if you become a PMI member in your first year, you save $11. This makes sense for you to become a PMI member during your first year. And now let's say, God forbid, you didn't pass your PMP exam on your first try, then you can retake your exam up to 3 times in 1 calendar year. So after you submitted your PMI application to write your PMP exam, then you have 1 year from the date that your application was approved in order to write your PMP certification, and during that 1 year you can write it 3 times, and after this 1 year, you will need to apply for the PMP certification again if you want to write it again. So if you had to resit for your PMP exam, if you were a PMI member, then your exam fee would be $275, and if you were a non-member, your exam fee would be $375. So being a member would save you $100 if you had to rewrite your exam. Again, you have 3 tries to write your PMP exam in your 1-year eligibility period, and if you don't pass on all 3 of your attempts, then you have to submit your PMP application again and apply all over again for another 1-year eligibility, which isn't the best news. So you definitely want to pass on your first try. So given the cost that we have seen, it definitely makes sense to get your PMI membership for your first year. The value of the membership does go down in subsequent years, but it definitely makes sense to become a PMI member if you do want to get your PMP certification. Plus, an added benefit of having the PMI membership is that you get a free digital copy of the PMBOK Guide when you are a PMI member. Plus, you get invited to some PMI events, you may get discounts to some conferences, and you get access to their community online as well so you can network with different people. So it definitely makes sense to get your membership when you're applying for your PMP exam during your first year to just get those savings and those extra benefits. And if you want to learn how you can get your PMP certification on your first try so that you don't need to take the exam again and study the boring PMBOK all over again, then be sure to check out our free course at www.examspm.com/free where we will break down the exact study plan, the exact strategies that you need to know in order to pass your PMP in the next 6 weeks.
