Writing Non Functional Requirements Using ChatGPT and AI

And in today's tutorial, I'm going to share with you how you can use ChatGPT to start writing the non-functional requirements for your projects. Now, whenever you're building any kind of application, you will have functional requirements. These— this is what your application will actually do. But you also have non-functional requirements as well. These things are important, but you may not be able to see or interact with them. So non-functional requirements can include things like security and uptime. And it is important for you to have detailed requirements for your project so you and your stakeholders are on the same page. And today I'm going to share with you how you can use ChatGPT to 1, brainstorm non-functional requirements for your projects, and 2, use ChatGPT to actually write it for you. This is going to save you so much time as a project manager, and ChatGPT is the fastest growing AI tool and it's such a game changer. Now without further ado, let's jump into the slides here. So here is the prompt for non-functional requirements. Essentially, I gave a list of non-functional requirements for ChatGPT to consider, and then over here you just need to fill in the specific, the specific requirement, feature, product feature, or project that you want to write non-functional requirements for. You just write a sentence or 2 on what your project entails right here. So I told ChatGPT here to consider all of these various different types of non-functional requirements from performance to security to reliability to scalability to usability, compatibility, maintainability, performance, supportability, legal and compliance as well. So let's go ahead and copy and paste this non-functional requirement prompt over into ChatGPT. Alright, so at the bottom here, I provided ChatGPT with the with the project that I want to bring for it to write the non-functional requirements for. And I just wanted to write the non-functional requirements for the login feature that I'm building for my application. Okay, as we can see here, ChatGPT has written the non-functional requirements for our project.

Here, you can see under performance is telling us that the login feature needs to authenticate the user within 2 seconds. And under security, we need to implement OAuth to protect the user credentials, we need to use HTTPS, The reliability of the app, it needs to be up 99.9% of the time.

So you can see within just seconds, ChatGPT has, has written about 2 dozen or so non-functional requirements in each of the categories for us. So please use this prompt the next time in your project that you need to write non-functional requirements. And if you have more categories of non-functional requirements that you want to include in your project, simply go back to the prompt and then just add in what that category may be. And ChatGPT will start writing for you. ChatGPT has already learned all of the materials everywhere on the web. So it can sometimes even think of non-functional requirements that you may not have even considered or thought of. So it's a great tool for you to one, help you think of new non-functional requirements, and 2, it can write it lightning speed. So that is, that is it for me for today.
