He emphasizes explaining reasons for requests, punishments, and expectations to build relationships, teach future parenting and leadership skills, and keep kids engaged as they age.

Because I said so. That's not an answer. Papa, Dada, Dad. It's true. It's not an answer. And, and my kids called me out on that early on because I told them that it's not a valid answer and that I need to explain myself. And I expect the same for them. Right? It's a two way street. We're building relationships with their kids and it's, it's about developing that communication between the two of you, three of you, four of you, however many kids you have because they will gang up on you, be aware. Topic for a different post. But having open, honest communication because what you put out to them is what you should expect to receive. You can't tell your kid because I said so. Then expect to have open dialogue about anything that they're having issues with or even discussing what you want them to do or not do and get any sort of feedback. So explain yourself. Explain where you're coming from. And it may not be clear and direct, but at least it'll start the conversation, the dialogue with your child. It may not be an issue when your kids younger, but as they get older, they're going to pull away from you. If you don't give that, that intention, if you don't give that explanation, if you don't justify your position, then how do they know? 1. How to parent later on in their life. 2. How to be a good leader because it's all leadership as a parent. You're leading your kids, you're leading your household. So explain yourself. Explain why you're doing what you're doing. Explain why you're asking them to do whatever you've asked them to do. Explain why any punishment you're doling out or any disciplinary measures, just communicate it. Explain your intent, explain where it's coming from. Explain the outcomes you're expecting to achieve and explain why you feel it's in service of them and how they'll benefit. Communicate. It's two ways.
