And there's going to be times where you lose your mind on your kids. And, man, have I ever just snapped. And I'd like to consider myself a relatively patient individual, but there's times where that pileup of things just become too much. Let's get started. Hi, I'm Hannah Chohan. Welcome to Decent Divorce Dads. Today we're going to be talking about losing your temper with your kids. Let's get started. Now, life is hard. And the challenges we face every day range from pressure at work, pressure with your child's mother, pressure with neighbors, friends, finances. There's a lot. And it's going to get the best of you, and that's okay. We're human, we're fallible, we make mistakes. And there's going to be times where you lose your mind on your kids. And man, have I ever just snapped. And I'd like to consider myself a relatively patient individual. But there's times where that pileup of things just become too much. And then your kid or your kids take it to that next level, or they keep doing something you've spoken to them several times about and you lose your mind. And I know the old sergeant and me comes out and I'm just yelling at my child because in that moment, I want him or her to understand that they've gone too far or they did something wrong. But then after the fact, I feel horrible because I went too far. I didn't need to do that. I should have taken a step back, taken a deep breath, walked away, and then come back and had a meaningful conversation. Because when you start yelling at somebody, what happens? They shut down. They stop listening to you, and it's just not fruitful or productive. So what I do is after walk away and process how did I lose control of my emotions? Why did that happen? What led me to that? Once I process it for myself and understand, okay, this is why, or it wasn't as big of a deal or I could have approached this better. I process it myself. But then I'll go back to my kids and I'll apologize. I'll apologize to them for losing my temper. And this is all one way. This isn't, I did this because you did this. It's I apologize because I lost my temper. It was inappropriate and I didn't mean to. Then I'll explain why I did it from my perspective so they understand now, whether it's with your kids, your boss, or a loved one, a romantic partner, it's all about trust and respect. And if you keep losing your mind on your kids without giving an explanation, they're going to become fearful of you. They'll trust you less, your household or their lives will become unpredictable in their minds and develop anxiety and a whole series of knock on effects. So please lead with integrity, lead yourself with integrity, lead your kids and your family with integrity, and apologize. Understand where it comes from and communicate why it happened. I really hope you enjoyed that guys. And if you did, please remember to like follow and subscribe. And if you found it was helpful, please share it.
