Gardening with Kids 🌱🌾🌿🍃

You. It's amazing how if you wait long enough, things will correct themselves. Is this true for everything? No. But I like to believe that in the circumstances where it works out for me. Let's take the example of my vegetable garden in the backyard. It was getting shaded by by the neighbor's tree that kept growing longer and longer for the last couple of years. I said I was going to move it. Last two years of my life have been quite hectic and I didn't really put a lot of effort into growing things, so didn't really care. Boom. Neighbors re landscaped their backyard, put in a pool, took down the tree. Problem solved. But all this to say we're growing stuff this year. And I really love growing things because the memories I've had of my kids growing up and running off the play structure to go pick a bean, a cherry tomato when I see them snacking there, eating healthy things, organic things and chatting, talking, playing and carrying it on with their business. So being able to grow your own food is also something that's worth learning and teaching your kids. But tis the season. If we're looking at the May24 long weekend as that milestone to be able to plant things outside where we can, I will confidently say we won't get any frost. Now's the time to start or already have started growing your seedlings or at least start planning out what you want to grow. So take the time this weekend to sit down with your kids and plan out what do we want to grow? What would be fun to to create and give them ideas if they can't think of anything, come up with at least a list of this is what I would like to think of growing and be able to provide it to them and say hey. Potatoes, carrots, peas, tomatoes, cilantro, basil. There's so much we can grow in our limited growing season and it's really, really different and much more more delicious to taste fresh off the vine. Tomato and put it in your own salad or or grilled cheese sandwich with pickles on the side. Separate story on that.
