The secret to becoming a great DJ. When I was 15, I taught myself how to DJ with the maddest collection of music that I'd found on the Internet. Now I played at some of my mate's 16th birthday parties and I rocked up with all these crazy tunes that didn't make any sense together. I had the best time playing them, but I'm pretty sure the dance floor was dead now. When I was 18, I got my first DJ gig in a bar and they were actually paying me to play. It's crazy. I knew a little bit more about music by this point, but I still didn't know what was going to hit on the dance floor. That same year, I started promoting under 18's club nights. Now I put so much effort into selling the tickets and making sure the party was going to be the best thing ever. I gave myself a DJ set. And that is when everything changed. I dug deep. I found remixes of tracks that I thought they would like. I found ways to play popular tracks in my style. And for the first time ever, I built a set with the dance floor in mind. A great DJ is not the one who can do the best tricks. A great DJ is not the one who makes the best productions. A great DJ is the one who can build the dance floor and take them on a journey.
