In this Everyday AI video, host Jay demonstrates Squint, a cross‑platform desktop application that lets users drag a selection box over any on‑screen content—text, images, or AI model outputs—and receive an immediate AI‑generated explanation. He shows the hotkey activation, streaming of answers, and the ability to ask follow‑up questions without switching to a separate chat window, highlighting its utility for quick clarification while working. Jay notes the free tier provides three captures per day (ten per week) and the paid tier costs $10 / month, which he deems affordable compared to typical SaaS pricing. The app runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux. He adds a disclaimer that he has no affiliation with Squint and promotes his own 7‑day prompting ebook, “Perfecting Prompts,” with a link in the description. The overall tone is enthusiastic and instructional, aimed at showing how Squint can streamline AI‑assisted workflows.

Squint is a desktop app that allows you to drag a box about around, um, anything on your laptop that is confusing you, and it will explain it to you clearly. If this is your first time here, my name is Jay, and this is the Everyday AI channel where we teach you how you can use AI in your daily lives. So I'm going to dive right into this here, and as you can see, Squint is quite a useful tool because there are a lot of things that, you know, we keep seeing on our desktop, on our laptops especially. I mean, potentially images, outputs from large language models, and sometimes it's just an easier workflow to take a screenshot And, uh, yeah, follow up with a prompt. So this is exactly what Squint helps with. As you can see, there's even a key command that allows you to quickly just drag a box around anything on your screen and explain it. So they've got the hotkey activation, the answers to stream in. You can easily ask a follow-up question. So let's say potentially you're not even in a chat with an LLM, and instead of sort of, uh, switching tabs even, this ultimately saves that, especially if you have, uh, if you're diving into any sort of topic that you don't know too much about I'm actually pleased to announce I've launched one of my first digital products, which is a 7-day prompting ebook. I've called it Perfecting Prompts, and it's essentially a 7-day crash course on how you can improve your prompting so that you can supercharge your productivity. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to leave the link to Perfecting Prompts below. I put in a lot of work into it, and in there I actually include some frameworks that I teach to global corporations. Definitely check it out. They do have a free tier that gives you 3 captures a day, which quite useful. 10 CAPTCHAs a week. I'm not affiliated with these guys in any way, shape, or form, but if you are interested in, uh, sort of paying for this, then yeah, I mean, $10 a month is all right. I think most SaaS subscriptions about $20 at the moment. So yeah, it's cool that— it's cool that it's not too expensive. We got, uh, option for Mac, Windows, and Linux as well. So definitely check it out if you think it would be useful for you.
