Your nervous system gets stuck in fight-or-flight from work stress and constant notifications, leaving you reactive and exhausted. Two techniques can retrain it: deep breathing with a 4-second inhale, 4-second hold, 6-second exhale, and brief cold exposure like a 30-second cold shower. Repeat these and your body learns to recover.

Train your nervous system like a muscle. Most of us are stuck in survival mode without even realizing it. Work stress, constant notifications, caffeine overload— it all keeps your body in fight or flight mode. And when your nervous system is constantly on high alert, it takes a toll on your health. You're more reactive, less focused, and never truly feel rested. Now here's the beauty in this: you can train your nervous system to recover just like you would train a muscle. And here's how. Practice deep diaphragmatic breathing. For example, breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, and then exhale for 6 seconds. There's tons of these type of breathing techniques. They send signals to your body that it is safe to relax. Also, you can try cold exposure. Splash your face with cold water or in your shower with 30 seconds of cold water. I'm from a cold city, so sometimes I throw on some shorts and a t-shirt, and I just go outside for 5 minutes to expose myself to the cold.
