Kamilah Stevenson built a six-figure crypto portfolio in a year by redirecting money she used to spend eating out. Instead of restaurant bills, she invested the same amounts into Bitcoin, ETH, and XRP. She says the shift wasn't about finding secret coins but rewiring her brain to choose long-term wealth over short-term comfort.

Hey, what's up, Wealth Family? Listen, today I'm going to talk about how I built a 6-figure crypto portfolio in 1 year, and I'm just going to tell you right now, it was not because I picked some secret coin or timed the market perfectly. I'm just going to tell you straightforward, the reason why I was able to build a crypto portfolio that excelled 6 figures in 1 year is because I stopped eating out. That's it. Nothing fancy, no trading strategy, no overnight win. I just made a decision instead of feeding my cravings that I was going to feed my future. And I'm going to tell you how to do the same thing. But that one small habit completely changed everything about how I handled money, because it was never really about the food. It was about the mindset behind every dollar I was spending. Okay, now first of all, let me just say this quick reminder before we get into it. This is not financial advice. I'm sharing what worked for me and what I learned along the way and how it changed my relationship with money. If you want to plan to become wealthy, go ahead and hit that subscribe button because I'm going to help to know exactly how to do that. And again, this is for educational purposes only. Now listen, I remember the day that it clicked for me. I remember looking back through my bank statements and I realized how much money I was spending eating out. I'm talking hundreds and thousands of dollars every single month. And listen, if you think that was a lot, man, I was also tipping real good. I'm usually the highest tipper when I walk into a restaurant. And I'm the kind of person that's going to bless the waiter, you know, real good. So if I go out, I'm spending money on food and I'm tipping big. But really, all of that stuff just started to add up and it hit me that, man, I was tipping more than I was investing, you know. And there's nothing wrong with giving, but it should really encourage you because if you are generous and you want to give more, then you want to have more to give. Okay, so you got to take a moment to really focus on building your wealth. But Meanwhile, I was investing a little bit in the stock market and investing heavily in real estate at the time, buying a lot of gold and silver, just dabbling in stocks. But my crypto portfolio was nonexistent. And so I had bought a little Bitcoin, I think, but nothing serious. And that day I decided to change it. Okay, so what I decided to do was every time I felt the urge to eat out, especially those expensive meals, and you know, I got an expensive type because I don't like eating a bunch of low-grade food, because it's unhealthy for you. But whenever I got that urge, I'd stop and say, you know what, what if I put this money into my future instead? So instead of putting a lot of money on dinner, I drop it into crypto. Instead of, you know, dropping a couple of hundred on the weekend for eating out, I throw that $200 into Bitcoin or ETH. And I know it sounds small, but that's the point. Building wealth doesn't start with big money, it starts with big awareness. See, most of us don't have a money problem, we have a habits problem. We think we're broke, but really we're just spending unconsciously. And I know because I used to do it too. And it doesn't matter if you're already investing, there's probably still areas that you can improve in. And so if you don't start to analyze these areas, then you're going to be in what you call a financial autopilot. Wake up, scroll, spend, repeat. Wake up, scroll, spend, repeat. And the dangerous part is it's going to feel normal to you. You're not even thinking, you're just doing.. But I finally paused long enough to see my patterns, and I realized I wasn't lacking opportunity, I was leaking discipline. And that's the moment when I took my first real position in crypto, not because I had extra money, but because I finally learned how to redirect money that I was wasting. You know, once I started looking at my habits, I realized something even deeper. It wasn't about the food, it was about the comfort. You know, every time I'd go out to eat, it wasn't just because I'm hungry. Sometimes it might have been, but I really wanted a break. I wanted to feel good. I wanted a moment. And that's when I realized a lot of spending isn't logical, it's emotional. And that's what consumerism really is. It's emotional self-soothing with a receipt attached. We really buy because it feels good. We spend because it gives us a dopamine hit. We convince ourselves it's just a treat, but deep down what we're doing is we're trying to feel something. Maybe it's stress or boredom or pressure or insecurity or even loneliness sometimes. And the The thing is, the world encourages this. Every single ad you see is designed to trigger emotion. They don't sell products, they sell feelings, belonging, beauty, importance. So we end up spending to become the version of ourselves we think will finally feel enough. But that pattern, that cycle of emotional spending, literally wires your brain. You start associating money with comfort instead of creation. Every time you get paid, your brain Oh, this is the part where we feel good. And then without realizing it, you're rewarding yourself for staying stuck. And that's why I say consumerism is addictive, because it's not just what you buy, it's what it does to your brain. The more you feed it, the stronger it gets. And then after a while, every paycheck comes with a craving. And listen, I'm not here saying don't enjoy your life. There are some things I'll always spend money on, things that genuinely add joy or peace. But there's a difference between spending to experience life and spinning to escape life. Once I saw the difference, everything started to change, and I stopped judging myself for how I used to spin, and I just started getting curious. Why was I doing this? What was I trying to feel? Because see, when you can name that emotion behind your spinning, you can finally change the pattern. And that's when you stop becoming a consumer and start becoming a creator, not just of money, but of discipline, freedom and peace. So there's a shift that needs to happen to rewire this happen. And once I realized what was really going on, I knew I had to make a change. Not just a budget change, but a behavioral change. Because you can't out-budget bad habits, you have to rewire them. At first I thought I just needed more discipline, but discipline doesn't come from forcing yourself. It comes from replacing what no longer serves you with something that does. So I made one simple rule for myself. If I was about to spend money on something something that would only make me feel good in a moment, I take that same amount and invest it into my future instead. So for me, that became crypto. So every $40 lunch, that became $40 in Bitcoin. Every $100 dinner, that became $100 in ETH or XRP. Every time I wanted to go out of habit, I turned that habit into an asset. And that's the thing— wealth doesn't come from one big decision. It comes from thousands of small ones that compound over time. Most people think the key to wealth is more money. But the truth is, it is more intentionality. It's not about making more, it's about managing differently. Because if you can't manage $100, you're not going to magically manage $10,000. The pattern doesn't change with the amount, it changes with awareness. So I started tracking my spending and redirecting it. And it's wild how fast things can really add up. By the end of the first year, I wasn't just saving money, I was building ownership. And that's when the confidence kicked in. Because Once you start seeing your money grow instead of just go, your brain starts craving progress instead of pleasure. And that's how you rewire it. You don't fight the dopamine, you just redirect it. Instead of rewarding yourself for consuming, you reward yourself for creating. You start to enjoy watching your portfolio grow more than watching your plate arrive, right? It is really a dopamine rush when you can look at your portfolio and see what's happening in the growth process. And that shift That mental flip, that's what built my 6-figure crypto portfolio in a year. Not just luck, not just timing, but just small decisions made consistently from a new level of awareness. And so the challenge is you got to find your own eating out habit, your own version of my eating out habit, because we've all got one. That thing that is quietly draining our potential, not because it's bad, but because it's unconscious. And for me, it was eating out. For you, it might be Starbucks every morning. Maybe it's impulse buying on Amazon. Uber Eats every night, or those $300 treat weekends that may happen twice a month. Maybe you're constantly going out of town, you're constantly going to concerts and entertainment places. Listen, I'm not again telling you not to enjoy your life. I still go out, I still travel, I still buy nice things, but I draw the line. Because when you start treating every dollar like an employee that should be working for you, you stop spending out of impulse and you start spending with more intention. So here's the challenge. For the next 30 days, track that one habit. And every time you feel the urge to swipe your card, just pause and ask, hey, do I really need this right now? Or do I want freedom later? And if the answer is freedom, then take that money and invest it. Start small. $20 here, $30 there, $50 here, $100 there. Redirect it into something that grows. Maybe it's your crypto portfolio, your brokerage account, your emergency fund, your business. Because those small, consistent moves, that's how you change your financial story. That's how you break the cycle of reaction and start building a life of intention. And trust me, when you start seeing those results, you're never gonna want to go back to those bad habits.
