Your Portfolio Is Still Controlled by Bitcoin

Kamilah Stevenson explains why Bitcoin's liquidity and four-year halving cycle keep all cryptocurrencies moving together. Altcoins won't decouple until they generate real-world utility independent of speculation. She advises keeping assets in custody solutions and using tax-advantaged accounts to reduce risk.

Hey, it's Kamilah Stevenson, and around here we talk wealth. And I want to warn you and let you know that if Bitcoin continues to drop, then most of your altcoins will drop with it. Even the ones with real utility, even the ones building real infrastructure, and even the ones that have nothing to do with Bitcoin's technology. That's not a coincidence. It's not manipulation in the way people think, and it's not proof that everything is fake. Its structure. Crypto is built around Bitcoin liquidity, and until that changes, almost everything in the market is trading inside the gravity of one asset. Most people think different coins mean different markets. They assume XRP, Ethereum, Solana, or whatever else should behave independently because they're different technologies. But markets don't move based on technology alone. They move based on liquidity. For years, Bitcoin has been the primary base pair on exchanges. Even when USD and stablecoin pairs expanded, the dominance psychology never left. Capital still flows into Bitcoin first. Institutions accumulate Bitcoin first. Retail watches Bitcoin first. And when leverage unwinds, it unwinds from Bitcoin outward. That's the part most people are not watching for. If Bitcoin sells off, the market makers rebalance. If Bitcoin's dominance shifts, liquidity pools adjust. If leverage positions get liquidated, it cascades across pairs. And that is even if XRP's fundamentals haven't changed, if Ethereum hasn't changed, if nothing about the underlying project has changed, the ratios force repricing. Think about it this way. If one Bitcoin equals 20 Ethereum in a trading pool and Bitcoin drops sharply in value, that ratio doesn't sit there politely. The entire pool has to rebalance. The same thing happens across dozens of trading pairs simultaneously. That's why it feels like everything falls together. It's not emotional panic alone, it's mechanical adjustment. And until crypto stops routing its liquidity through Bitcoin as the central gravity point, this pattern will continue. Now, this is where people say, but what about decoupling? And what about real utility? That's the right question. But before we get there, you have to understand the rhythm this market has been operating under for a decade, because Bitcoin doesn't just influence price in short term, it settles the cycle. Now, before we go forward, I want you to go ahead and like the video and subscribe to the page so that you do not miss another video. And let me know, Are you team Bitcoin or are you not? I love to just know what your favorite coins are. All right, so let's get into this. See, Bitcoin doesn't just influence price in the short term, it sets the cycle. So let's slow down and talk about what that really means. Every 4 years, Bitcoin goes through what we call a halving. The supply issuance gets cut in half. Historically, that event has marked the beginning of a new expansion phase. Not instantly, but gradually. What typically happens is this: the market bottoms out sometime before or around the halving. Then you get a long stretch where nothing feels dramatic at all. Price grinds, sentiment is mixed, volume is light, and then liquidity starts to return. Roughly a year into that post-halving window, momentum builds, retail flows in, media narratives accelerate, leverage increases, Everything feels alive again. That expansion phase usually runs for about a year before it overheats. Then comes distribution. Volatility increases, smart money rotates out, leverage unwinds, and what people call a crash is often just the release of built-up speculation. That rhythm has repeated multiple times. It's not perfect or identical each time, but very consistent enough that institutions pay attention to it.. And here's where altcoins get pulled into it. Altcoins don't just follow Bitcoin mechanically, they follow Bitcoin's cycle. When Bitcoin enters expansion, altcoins amplify the move. When Bitcoin enters contraction, altcoins exaggerate the downside. And it's not random. Smaller caps move harder because liquidity is thinner. That's why people feel like crypto is chaotic. It isn't chaotic. It's highly cyclical and highly leveraged. Now, cycles are one thing, structural pressure is another. And right now Bitcoin isn't just sitting inside a normal 4-year rhythm. There are real stress points forming underneath it. So let's talk about that. The 4-year cycle explains rhythm. It doesn't explain fragility. What's different in this cycle compared to the earlier ones is scale and leverage. Bitcoin is no longer just retail traders on exchanges. You now have public companies holding it on their balance sheets. You have ETFs absorbing flows. You have institutional vehicles that allow exposure through traditional brokerage accounts. That changes the pressure dynamics. When institutions enter, leverage enters with them. Some companies have accumulated Bitcoin using debt. That means their exposure isn't just directional, it's structured. If price falls far enough, balance sheets tighten. If volatility increases, financing costs matter. That doesn't automatically mean a collapse, but it does mean the system becomes more sensitive. There's also the stablecoin layer. A large portion of crypto liquidity flows through stablecoin pairs. When liquidity expands, rallies accelerate. When liquidity tightens, everything contracts faster than expected. It's not mysterious, it's just capital flow. Now combine that with the dominance factor. Bitcoin still holds the majority of total crypto market capitalization. That means when it absorbs liquidity, everything else gets thinner. When it releases liquidity, everything else feels the shock. This is why decoupling hasn't happened yet. Crypto is still one ecosystem. It's not 10 independent markets. It's one liquidity environment with multiple assets competing inside of it. So when Bitcoin is under structural stress, whether that's leverage, macro tightening, ETF outflows, or simple exhaustion, altcoins don't get to ignore it. They move with the system. Now here's the real question. What would actually have to change for that relationship to break? Because decoupling isn't something you declare. It's something that emerges when the foundation shifts. So let's talk about what that shift would look like. For altcoins to truly decouple from Bitcoin, something deeper than sentiment has to change. Right now, most crypto activity is still speculative. Capital flows in because people expect price appreciation. Liquidity rotates based on momentum that keeps everything synchronized. Decoupling only happens when an asset begins to generate demand that does not depend on Bitcoin's cycle. That means real consistent utility demand, not announcements, not partnership on paper, not narratives, actual usage that requires the asset regardless of where Bitcoin is trading. If a blockchain becomes infrastructure, meaning institutions, corporations, or governments rely on it to settle transactions, tokenize assets, or move capital, then liquidity starts anchoring to that utility instead of Bitcoin's rhythm. That's when correlation weakens. Until that point, even the strong projects remain tied to the dominant liquidity source. This is where XRP enters the conversation, and it's important to say this very carefully. XRP was not designed to compete with Bitcoin as a store of value narrative. It was built as a bridge asset for settlement. If that settlement function ever reaches scale, real scale, then its demand wouldn't be driven by retail speculation. It would be driven by necessity, and necessity behaves differently than speculation. The same applies to interoperability layers like Quant, tokenization platforms, settlement networks, and cross-border infrastructure. When real-world value begins flowing through those systems in a way that cannot pause every time Bitcoin corrects, then the market structure changes. That's when you begin to see separation. But until utility overtakes speculation as the primary driver of liquidity, Bitcoin remains the gravity center. Decoupling isn't about hoping altcoins outperform. It's about the market maturing into infrastructure instead of narrative. And that transition takes time. Now, once you understand cycles, liquidity, and structural pressure,, then things start to shift from prediction to positioning. Now, for me, positioning means structure. It means not keeping everything on exchanges. It means thinking long term. It means using the tools that align with how I believe the market will evolve. And that's why I personally use iTrustCapital. I use it in two different ways. One is a Roth IRA. If this asset class compounds over the next several years, I don't want taxes eroding that growth. Being able to hold crypto inside a Roth structure changes the outcome over time. The second is their premium custody account. It's designed for people who want assets off the exchanges but still want flexibility. It's a closed-loop custody model which significantly reduces counterparty risk, and you can still trade inside of the account. You can hold stablecoins, stake certain assets, and even hold gold and silver in the same place. Now I'll leave a link below in the description, and if you do use that link, you will get a free $100 funding bonus once you fund your account. I'm just showing you how I think about custody and structure when cycles get volatile. And if you're trying to think through the markets more clearly instead of reacting to every move, then that's what I've built my coaching and community for. It's not about chasing all the pumps. It is about understanding positioning, risk, psychology and how to operate inside cycles without letting ambiguity push you into bad decisions. We do talk through portfolios, we walk through scenarios, we deal with structure and mindset because your mental clarity is part of your financial outcome. Now, if that's something you want support with, the link is also in the description. Now let me end with something that is very important, and I want you to understand this. Bitcoin still sets the rhythm of this market. Altcoins still orbit that liquidity, and until real utility demand overtakes speculation, that dynamic will not change. But markets evolve, liquidity shifts, infrastructure matures, and the people who understand structure tend to move differently than the people who chase narratives. So do not focus on what's loud, focus on what's structural. And as always, I want you to stay wise, stay wealthy, and I'll see you in the next video.
