Why is getting this DNA truth important to you?
Oh my God, so it's very important because I have been lied to majority of my whole life. Basically saying that this other man named Don Smith was my father, who I have my last name from.
Yes.
And he's not my father.
Okay.
So finding out that he was not my father, I was like, what the hell?
Yeah, of course.
Like, what is going on here?
So how did you find out that Don Smith wasn't your father?
Couple years back, I was doing some research and my mom told me his name, but she would never go into detail. So, like I said, I did some research and I found him.
And what happened when you found him?
It's kind of hard to describe 'cause I went through a system to find him.
Yes.
Some cousins reached out to me and then we did some digging.
And you figured it out?
And I figured it out.
Got it.
Yeah, I figured it out.
Okay, so when did you reach out to Michael?
About 2 or 3 years ago.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay, and someone else was looking for him too, my producer tell me.
Yes, Jennifer.
Okay.
And so I don't remember, I actually don't remember how me and her got in contact. I can't remember, but we ended up getting in contact with each other. I got his number, got her number, we ended up like talking or whatever and we just kind of connected and found out.
So what was it like talking to your potential sister for the first time?
Oh, it was weird because I always wanted to have a little sister. Like, okay, so outta my mama kids, I'm the middle child.
Okay.
If you ask me, I'm the oldest. But, and like me and my older sister don't, we don't have a good relationship. So to have a little sister and she's hella cool from what I've talked to, I'm like, okay, there it is.
Okay, yeah, like now, like here we go.
Okay, I feel you. I feel like now I could put like my wisdom and my knowledge and give it, you know, give it to her. 'Cause we kind of like in the same industry.
Nice, nice, nice, nice. Do you think you're sisters?
I kind of hope we are. Yeah, you hope you are. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed hoping that we are.
Yeah. Does she go by Jenny or Jennifer?
I call her Jennifer, but I think her real name is Jenny. Jenny, okay then.
So what's your relationship like with Jenny?
So far so good. I mean, it's been, you know, it's the distance because I'm in Texas and she's in New York.
Okay.
So we, you know, it's kind of like when you're a long distance from somebody, it's hard to have a relationship with them.
Of course.
But you still try to keep in contact. And she has kids, so I definitely wanna meet the babies and, you know, I'm a rich auntie, you know what I'm saying? You know, like, come bring the babies. And I don't have any children, so, you know.
So you would spoil them, you'd be great.
You know, definitely so, yeah.
So now you said Michael, after you found out the first guy was not your father, you found Michael and you found out that Jennifer was looking for him too. What's your relationship like with Michael now?
So far so good. I think right now I'm just kind of keeping it like, you know how like you kind of sense that somebody is related to you, but you just don't know and you don't really want to open that door of emotions because you're like, if I give this person my heart and it turns out not, I'm gonna be heartbroken because I've been fine since before me.
You see what I'm saying? Of course.
So now.
You were able to get yourself to a place where, I love this photo.
Yeah, that's us.
You were able to get yourself to a place where you were fine after finding out the first man wasn't.
So to open yourself up to him is how I got it, I get it. I'm not gonna lie, finding out that Don was not my dad was devastating for me.
Of course.
I have his last name, which that's one of the other things, I would wanna change my last name too if the DNA test come back.
You wanna know, yeah.
Yeah, Sarah [MASKED] sounds a lot better. Okay. So yeah.
Has your mom been there to help you through this?
Oh yeah, actually she has been very supportive. Her opening up about it was a little difficult. Like we struggled even trying to talk about like who, you know, who is he? Like she didn't really have a lot of information. So we kind of struggled. But since finding out, she's really been happy for me and she's been supportive.
Good, good, good. Has she ever met your potential sister?
Not at all.
Never? Okay then. Well, before we meet Jenny, let's talk to your mom, Doris. Everyone, welcome Doris to the show.
My beautiful mother. Love her to death.
So how do you feel about what was just said?
Oh, I was actually listening and laughing. I think everything she said was absolutely true. She is giving her heart and her feelings about everything that happened, and I'm just here to support her and give the backstory to what she's actually had to experience.
Was there a reason why you didn't share with her about the truth about Dom before?
Well, it wasn't that I didn't share the truth. It was more so just not— really wanting to open up about the trauma I had to experience with being with Don and meeting Michael at the time.
Yeah, got it, got it.
So I just didn't want to go into the greatness of it.
I can understand that, 'cause sometimes we have to figure out how to protect ourselves while also trying to figure out how to best support and protect our children.
Absolutely.
So I get that, I can understand that.
And it's like reliving it.
Yeah.
I was a one-night stand baby, so that was a part of it too.
Got it. Okay then. What was it like when Sarah was growing up?
Very difficult time for me. When I met Michael, wow, he actually swept me off my feet. We won't go into it until you're ready for it, but—
No, you can tell me. When did you meet Michael? What was it like? Tell me.
Well, I wanted to kind of just give just a little bit. When I met Michael, I was in an abusive situation, and I kind of felt stuck. And I was working behind the cosmetic counter. And I had a friend that worked in the men's shoe department. And he knew Michael. And he and Michael strolled up, if you will, kind of floated to the counter.
Yeah.
I guess when he seen me, he— I don't know. I guess he liked what he saw. And he took my hand. And he kissed me. And boy, I just melted.
Oh, and I said to myself—
What a wonderful, tall, dark, cool cup of tea.
Well, before we find out the DNA truth, I wanna hear what Sarah's potential sister has to say about all of this. So you and Jenny have talked for 3 years now.
Yes.
But you've never met in person.
No.
Well, I think it's time for you to meet in person. So everyone, please welcome your potential sister Jenny to the show.
Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my goodness. Oh my God. Oh, you're so beautiful, baby. She's so pretty. That's exciting. Oh, you're adorable. Oh my God.
Babe, you're so gorgeous. Are we not on the same page?
I'm gonna sit right here.
Okay.
How you feeling to be here right now?
New sister. I don't, I'm like.
It's okay.
Oh my God.
I'm like speechless.
Yeah.
Yeah. Okay.
Yeah. Wow.
Wow.
We're here. We're here to see you in person. I know, girl. Like, 'cause there's nothing.
We've been chitty-chatting for a while.
Yeah, a while, yeah.
Yeah. So what was it like when the two of you contacted or connected for the first time?
It was a few years back and I got this random call out of the blue and it was like, I was pleasantly surprised. And you know, I had a lot going on. There was like a lot of noise in the background. So I'm like, you know, we talked for a little while and I think you gave me Michael's phone number.
Yeah, I think I gave it to you, yeah.
Yeah, so we, you know, we chitty chatted a little bit.
And were you excited? Were you nervous?
Yes.
No, I was really excited.
Yeah, you were like. So take me back. Who told you to look for Michael?
My biological mother. I was adopted out by her. So me and her have been in contact, I don't know, about 12 years now, on and off. We don't talk too often, but she kind of just gave me a little bit of information on who he was. It was pretty vague though. So every time I tried to look for him or, you know, it was always a dead end.
Yeah, always.
And you know, it's easier for like siblings, cousins, and everybody to reach out to each other through social media now, so.
Of course. Have you ever been able to meet your bio mom?
No.
Never? Okay then. Well, one thing is for sure, we will have your answers today. But before we get to that, let's meet Michael. Oh, look at the outfit right here. Michael, how you doing?
Oh, there we go.
So do you remember meeting Doris the way she remembers meeting you? Yeah, you do. You remember it.
You want to tell your story about how I met Sarah's mother?
Yes, of course.
The interesting thing about this story that she didn't know was that I had been married and I was raising— she was 3, so I was looking for another wife. Oh, okay. She didn't know that, but that's what I was looking for. I was looking to get married again and be family man, you know. Yeah. So when I saw her, you know, she was beautiful and she had the whip appeal, you know. She was all right, uptight and out of sight, you know. So, so we talked, went out, and She became pregnant. And I was like, okay. I said, that's my baby. She said, no, you know I live with my boyfriend and that's his baby. So time went on and she went on. And let me tell you something, these children meant a lot to me and I didn't really want to be distant from them. Okay, now I couldn't contact her. So years went by and I got married, but these children were still on my mind. Jennifer is probably the weirdest story. Now I was with Jennifer's mother when she gave her up for adoption.
Oh wow. Did you know this, Jennifer?
I heard that.
You did know this, that they were together?
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Mm-hmm. Right.
But they never said that he was your father. It wasn't confirmed.
Yeah.
Okay, got it.
Yeah.
So you think Sarah and Jennifer are your daughters?
They are.
They are, okay.
Hallelujah. Okay. I wanna be their dad.
I know, listen, I know. Well listen, I think it's time to confirm the DNA truth. Sarah, you have wanted to know if Michael is your biological father. You have had these questions. Your mother is sure. It sounds like Mike is sure.
I know, right?
Everybody's sure now. Everybody's sure.
Okay, exactly. So here goes your truth to open, not mine. Here you go.
Ooh, Lord Jesus, y'all pray for me in this crowd. Y'all keep your fingers crossed. All right, let's go.
Michael, Sarah is your daughter.
I told you.
He said, I told you.
Here you go, love.
Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God.
I'll tell you this. I'll tell you this. Even with the adults saying yes, there's still that uncertainty because you don't know.
Yeah, because you know people say, you know they say it, but you just don't know. You just don't know.
I will tell you this. One thing I will tell you is that From their story, you were made outta love.
Yeah.
And that spirit runs through you because though you've been through stuff in your life, you shine so bright from the inside out.
Yeah.
What I love also now is that the man who is on that screen wants to be your father. Yeah. He wants to be there.
Yeah.
So whatever support you felt like you didn't have before.
Yeah, I have now.
You have now. Yeah. You have now. Yeah, I do.
So—
Oh my gosh.
That is one taken care of, but we still have one more. Jenny, you also want to know if Michael is your father.
Yes.
And to know if Sarah's your sister.
Yes.
So this is your truth to open, not mine.
I'm gonna try to hold it together.
Yeah.
Oh my God.
All right, all right, I'm ready. Oh my God.
Oh my God. Oh my God.
Hallelujah. I can't change the past, but I'm in the future.
Jenny, how are you feeling right now?
Oh my God. And I'm probably sure—
Snip your heart.
For her, you know, for me it means a lot, but you know. It's been a long time and I, you know, every— I'm sorry.
No, you don't have to apologize.
It's been a long time. I'm 38 and I've been wanting this answer like my whole life.
Look at my baby.
Oh my God.
I think the beauty of it is that you have gained a beautiful sister and you already had a connection. But also what I love about this is that you're both wanted by your father.
Yes.
He wanted you, he loves you. And what I can tell, if anything, from what I'm hearing, is this man's gonna be there for the both of y'all.
Yeah.
Ability to have an emotional bond there and to connect.
Yeah.
And I think it's gonna be good. How do you feel about that?
I feel amazing. Thank you so much, Karamo.
You're welcome.
I watch your shows and I had to write to your home.
I'm glad you did.
I'm glad you did.
I'm so glad y'all hit me back. I was like, they ain't gonna hit me back. They ain't gonna hit me back. Y'all hit me back. And baby, listen, and I really, I did it for the both of us because We both needed answers and it was so long ago with my mom and him and with her being adopted and all that stuff. We just needed answers, y'all.
There's so many stories, we hear so many things.
We hear so many stories, so many, yeah.
We just, it's all over the place, but finally.
You got your answers, you got your closure. And I'll tell y'all one thing, looking at Michael, style is in y'all DNA. That's how y'all both came out here fresh. Listen, style is in your DNA.
