A Deathbed Confession Reveals Truth About Father | KARAMO

In this episode of The Karamo Show, host Karamo interviews Lacresha, a woman who grew up without knowing her biological father. Lacresha recounts a painful childhood marked by feeling like an outcast compared to her siblings who had paternal connections. The turning point comes when her aunt, on her deathbed, reveals the name of Lacresha’s possible father—Dwight—and provides vague details about his life and a potential sibling. Using this information, Lacresha searches Facebook, identifies two men matching the description, and contacts one, Dwight’s third wife, Tamara. Tamara confirms that Dwight had a daughter born the same year as Lacresha. After a brief, awkward FaceTime call with Dwight, the group arranges a DNA test. The test results, revealed on‑stage, confirm that Dwight is indeed Lacresha’s biological father, making her a girl. The episode captures the emotional reactions of all parties: Lacresha’s relief and gratitude, Dwight’s apology and tentative acceptance, Tamara’s joy, and Karamo’s facilitation. The show concludes with expressions of love, forgiveness, and a sense of family closure after 41 years of uncertainty.

Hey, how are you doing? I'm doing good.
How are you?
You look so cute. May I have a hug?
Yes, you can.
Nice to meet you.
Honey, you smell good.
Thank you. You look good. Okay, so tell me, so you grew up without a father?
I did.
What was that like for you?
It was so hard. I just, my whole life to be feeling like an outcast. My brothers knew who their father was. They get, special gifts and things from their side of the family at Christmas time. I'm the only one. You know, it felt different. I also knew I was getting treated different.
Yes.
The older I got, the more I wanted to know.
Makes sense, yeah. Like everyone else, you wanna know where you came from.
I do, I wanna know where I came from. I wanna know my people. I wanna know if I got siblings. I want to know if I got other nieces and nephews. I want to know, Everything.
Yeah.
You know, I don't feel like there's nothing wrong. I know everything about my mama's side.
You wanna know something about your father's side?
I didn't know nothing about my daddy's side.
Why were you scared to ask questions before?
Because it was, don't ask questions in my house. Oh. When I'm taking care of you, you're not lacking, we have everything that you need, you shouldn't be questioning. Grown people.
Got it, got it.
And that's just how it was in our household. You know, you don't question the grown people.
Yeah, you don't question 'em.
Yeah, yeah. And so that's what that was and I just didn't do it.
So how did you get your first lead about who your potential father could be?
My first lead came from my aunt on her deathbed.
Oh, wow.
And she told me, she said, look, I'm sick of it. I said, what? I said, "What you sick of?" She was like, "I'm finna tell you something and from there you gonna get the clarity that you need." So I said, "What?" And she was like, "Your dad name is Dwight." She was like, "You got a right to know." And she said, "I'm gonna tell you this and this is what I'm gonna tell you. I remember seeing him and when I saw him, it was back in the day." She said, "I seen him in the grocery store." "he had another woman and he had a baby." She said, "That baby couldn't have been no more than 3 to 6 months old." She's like, "So you and that baby are around the same age. That baby older than you, but y'all around the same age." So I was like, "Well, Auntie, do you know if it was a boy or a girl?" She said, "I can't remember that." But if you find them on his profile or something, you just look for somebody around your age. I start going on that Facebook. And looking.
So you got the name, you looking on Facebook, and did you find him?
I found two people that fit what my aunt was saying to me, which was he was in the military. He came out on Fort Rucker, Alabama, where we from. And he, the little baby that could have been around my age. So when I looked through the pictures, and things, I seen he had a daughter, Tamara, that was born in the same year that I was born in.
And then you reached out?
Yes, I did.
And we have that message. I wanna read it right now. So the message you sent out was, if you have a minute later this evening, can you please give me, please call me, please. Do you know me? No. And you don't know me either, but the information I have, we are probably related closer than you think. The person said, "LOL, that sounds like Dwight has more kids we don't know about." So she immediately knew that there could be some other kids.
Yes, she did. So now in my head, everything that was told to me while my aunt was finna get ready to leave this world were adding up.
Yeah, all of it.
All of it.
Wow. Well, when LaCresha didn't hear back from Dwight, she contacted Dwight's third wife, Tamara. Everyone, please welcome Tamara to the show.
Okay, so the inside joke with all the siblings has been it's 8 of us that we know about.
Yeah.
My dad was good looking, popular. He was doing his thing in his day.
Yeah.
You know, so it's not an impossibility.
Yeah.
And when she hit me, I mean, like, I literally, like, cracked up. I was like, Somebody just made the joke of the century, like for real. So yeah, I mean, I didn't, I don't have any problem with this at all. Like either we got another sister or we don't. But me and her have built a relationship and I love her.
Do y'all live in the same town? Do y'all live near each other?
No, we live like 6 hours apart.
6 hours away, but y'all talk on the phone?
Right, and we do FaceTime and her son looks just like me. Just like my little brother. So yeah, she hit me about 2 weeks before our birthday. And yeah, when he came down to visit, I was like, "Yeah, somebody wanna talk to you." And you just called him? Here you go.
And you just passed him the phone?
That.
Like quick?
There you go.
And was that your first time talking to him?
Yes. And when we talked, we, um—
My daddy looked dumbfounded.
Yeah.
And from that look, Being honest, it killed me. Because even though I'm in my mind knowing that he probably don't know anything about me, don't even know that I exist, it was just the receiving part from him.
I got it.
Like, it didn't come off welcoming.
Got it.
Or come off as, okay, well, let's try to see what we can do from here.
Does he think that Lacreshia is his daughter?
He really has, no idea. And he's not exactly, he's not exactly in a position to admit so many things right now. So that's also a reason why we definitely need this test. He said he doesn't remember her mom. And if, you know, if he had been informed that someone, if he had been informed that somebody was was pregnant by him, I don't think that he would've ignored that. So I think that in this situation, nobody reached out to him and told him that her mom was pregnant and that she could've been pregnant by him. So I really think my dad just doesn't know.
Got it, got it, got it. But that pain for you doesn't matter.
It was just pain for me because like I said, it wasn't received well. Not to downplay him, not downplaying my mama. We all grown.
Got it.
But I didn't deserve nothing on either end.
Yes. Uh-huh. Right. I didn't. All right, Tamara's dad, Dwight, is joining us via remote. And for the record, Lacresha, this is the first time you and your potential father, Dwight, are going to meet face to face, right?
Yes.
Wow. So welcome to the show, Dwight.
Oh, look at my daddy. That part, look at her smile. Y'all see that?
You hear a name, but you never see a face.
Yeah.
That's something that's just, it's different.
So what is it, 'cause did y'all, when you talked that first time, were y'all just on the phone or did you FaceTime?
We had FaceTime, but when I said it wasn't receiving, I put the phone down.
Oh.
And he didn't too much get a look with me. Oh, so this— So it was really him and my uncle.
All right, this is like your first time seeing Lacresha. How do you feel?
Hi, how are you?
I'm good, Dad.
I don't know, you know, what is there for me to say? You know, I'm sorry about all this. I'm sorry if I wasn't receptive when I spoke to you on the phone. I didn't feel that I wasn't being receptive, but You know, to each— each person has their own feelings and how they feel about something. Okay? I believe it was me being more in shock than knowing. You know? I don't know what to say. I really don't.
Dwight, do you believe that Lacreshia is your biological daughter?
I—
I don't know. And that's why this is happening.
Yeah.
I was not against it. I did not fight against it.
Look, that girl don't got no contacts on. Look at Dwight's eyes.
Yeah.
Look at my eyes. All of these teeth on this stage. Seriously, you know what I mean?
And—
Did you know her mother, Dwight?
We're talking 1980.
So you don't remember?
No, I do not.
Mm-hmm. So everyone, we reached out to Lacresha's mother to see if she would be on this show to say her side of the story, and she declined to be on this show. Why do you think she declined?
Because she's just, well, for one, she's just not in the best health.
Okay.
That's one. And she just wasn't gonna do it. Okay. 'Cause to her is don't be publicizing her bees.
Got it, got it, got it, got it. You know, anytime parents say that, don't publicize my business, I don't wanna do this for the thing. And I always have to remember that sure, it's your business, but this is closure for your child. This is something bigger for them.
If she's my daughter, then she'll be my daughter and I will treat her no different than I treat the rest of my children.
Tamar, what about you?
It doesn't matter. If she's my daughter, she's my daughter. I'm sorry I wasn't there for the growing up stage and that time, but can I be faulted for that?
No, and I don't—
I don't believe I can be because I didn't know.
And I don't fault you. I don't want you to think I fault you. Thank you. 'Cause I don't.
Well, the DNA truth that you have been waiting for for 41 years is in this envelope. This is your truth to open, not mine.
Oh, Lord.
It's a girl, Dad. It's a girl.
I don't know what it is.
It's a girl.
Look. Hey, look, look. Dwight is your biological father. It's a girl, Dad! It's a girl!
I couldn't even get past the first word. I'm sorry. I couldn't even get past the first word.
Congratulations. How you feeling?
Thank you.
How you feeling?
And I'm over here being nosy, reading over his shoulder.
As a big sister would. As a big sister would.
I couldn't get the first word out. I'm sorry.
Oh my God, this is so sweet.
Y'all are so sweet.
Dwight, what's going on in your mind right now?
I'm sorry.
Yeah.
And I'm sorry because I didn't know.
And I accept it.
I never been mad with you. That's why I love my husband.
I never was mad. I never been mad. I just wanted to know.
You found out. You know, wow.
Well, Dwight, I'll tell you this. You make some beautiful, beautiful daughters. Beautiful daughters. Thank you. And there is a lot of love and a lot of family. Like, I don't know what this Christmas party is, but if I'm not with my family, let me know what's going on. I'll come through.
I'll come eat.
I'll come eat, eat. OK. OK, I'll come eat, eat. Listen, I'm so happy for y'all that you got your answers. In all sincerity, 41 years. This is a choice that other people made. What's going through your mind right now?
I am so, I'm relieved.
Yeah.
I'm really relieved. Like I really wanted this for her. She got sick earlier this year and I hadn't got to see her yet. And I was the last one to find out that she was sick. And that's why it made it so much more important for us to get this done. 'Cause I felt so neglectful that she almost died without knowing.
Yeah, yeah.
And that's what we're talking about.
I'm so relieved right now, man.
Yeah. Well, I'm glad that you're in better health. I'm glad that you have your answers. I'm glad y'all have each other.
I wanna thank you.
You're so welcome. You're so welcome.
Thank you. Thank you.
I wanna thank you. I thank y'all for having the courage to come up here.
Yes.
It got hot, right? We all got hot.
I did. I know my forehead's sweating, but I just wanna thank you.
Yeah.
Pop, hey, we good. It ain't never been no hard feelings, I swear. Tamara, I love you. I want to thank you so, so much.
I love you, Dad.
Thank you so much.
I love you too, and I will love you too, Lucretia. I just— it's something that's going to have to grow. And we will grow.
Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
Yeah. I see a lot more about Dwight, how you process things. You're someone who has to be thoughtful about your thought process. I'm seeing, I understand why now his original reaction may have hurt because it's not shock, you're processing. He's a processor. And that type of stuff is like, I'm rational, I gotta think about it. What is step one? What are we doing? And so, but what I like about people who are like that is that when they are processing and they're being rational, they usually make the proper moves because they're always gonna be keeping everyone's emotions in check.
That's why my dad has always been so cool and I love my daddy and I'm so grateful so much like him in that sense. 'Cause like I had to think about it. Like the message said, like, do I?
Yeah.
Are you serious?
Yeah.
Like, you know, and then I felt bad when she got sick and like, you know.
Well, listen, good luck to y'all. I'm so happy for y'all. Thank you. You're so welcome. Thank you. You're welcome. All right, thank you everyone for being with us. Want more unlocked phones, DNA reveals, and family drama? Then make sure you're subscribed to the Karamo Show YouTube.
