I went by what my father said on his deathbed.
Okay.
He said he had 4 children. And on his deathbed, he named us by our first, middle, and last name.
And there was no mention of Dewana?
And there was no mention of Dewana.
I gotta ask you, have you ever had a relationship with Dewana?
No.
So do you want Dewana to be your sister?
No. I've been looking for my father for my whole life.
Wow.
And it's been a mystery for me since I was a child, like not knowing my identity or where I come from.
What did your mom tell you about the father when you were a kid?
She just told me bits and pieces of him. She did tell me his name, you know, how he looked and stuff like that. And she always used to say I favored him a lot.
So when did she tell you that he was deceased?
When I was about 11 years old.
11 years old?
Yes.
Okay. And what was that like for you hearing that out? Because you had never met him and all of a sudden she says he's dead.
Yeah, it was painful. And I thought that she, you know, you know, she was fibbing about it because I was always asking.
Yeah.
And I thought she just wanted me to stop asking.
Got it, got it, got it.
So I never, deep down in my heart, I never really believed it.
When did you start looking for him yourself? Like really looking?
After that day.
Okay.
After that day she told me that he passed, I would search through Yellow Pages, White Pages, searching up every Robertson looking for him.
You too young to know about Yellow Pages, okay?
White Pages.
When you said that, I was like, Yellow Pages, you know about, okay.
Yes, the big book.
The little book.
The little book, okay, yeah, okay. I had the different ones, I knew.
Yeah, okay. Did you have any other siblings growing up?
Yes, I did. I have 3 siblings by my mom. We all have different dads.
Okay.
And they all know their dads. So growing up, that was a challenge for me, not knowing my identity, where I came from. Makes sense. And seeing them with their dads or her talk about our dads, and it was just like, I always felt left out.
Makes sense, makes sense. So what happened 2 weeks ago?
Oh, 2 weeks ago, me and my mom were actually on the phone. You know, as we were talking about him, I was doing my little secret investigation and stuff on my phone. She gave me the name Marty, but I found out eventually that his name wasn't Marty. So the whole time I've been looking for Marty, and that's why I wasn't coming over.
Well, what did you find out his name actually was?
Tamar.
Tamar.
Yes.
Okay then. And so while you're on the phone with her, are you searching and do you see a Tamar?
No, actually I came across a guy named Benny. Benny Robertson, and he had a post on there. It said, "Rest in peace to my big bro, Marty." I seen the lady named Tanisha on there, and I'm like, "We kind of favor each other." Yeah. You know, let me click on her profile.
Okay.
So I clicked on her profile, and then I started going through her pictures, you know, doing my little investigation. And I'm like, "Yeah, this could be it." Wow. I started to get excited, emotional. I didn't tell my mom. That I was doing none of this. Yeah.
And this is just 2 weeks ago?
Yes, 2 weeks ago.
Wow.
So I went from there, I inboxed Tanisha and I said, do you know somebody named Marty? She text me back right away. Like she said, yes, that's my cousin. I asked her, was he light-skinned?
Yeah.
She said, yes, he is light-skinned. Then I asked her, is his mother dark-skinned? Because these are all the details my mother used to give me. So she said, yes, he actually passed away in 1999. So I said, well, my mom did tell me that he passed away when I was 11, but at 1999, I would've been 9 years old.
Got it, okay.
Yeah.
So maybe, so that's wrong. So who did Tanisha connect you with?
She told me that I actually had other siblings.
Oh, she did?
Yes.
Okay.
And then she gave me their names. One name was Gwen, and then I inboxed her.
Got it.
Yeah, and I said, it might be kind of strange or whatever, but I think We're sisters.
Wow.
Yes. I asked her, did she have any pictures of him? She got back to me within one day. I sent it to my mom. I said, is this him? Is this my dad? She said, that's him.
Wow. Wow. So when you then connected with his children, what happened? You said, which one did you connect with first?
Gwendolyn.
So Gwen, you spoke with Gwen first. And what did she say when you connected with her? You said, I'm possibly your sister?
Yes, she said you could be. "You know, and then she wanted to know what's his name? What do you know him by?" You know, she said that. And then I was like, "Marty." So when I said that, she was like, "Yeah." And then she asked me how many kids I have. I asked her the same. And then it was just like kind of silent.
Silent conversation, yeah, okay.
For a second.
Was she raised by him?
I'm not for sure. We didn't go into detail or anything about that because I didn't wanna set off anyone's emotions or get my hopes up. So what I did, I reached out to you, went through the internet to see who I could go through. I looked up Maury.
Uh-huh, yeah.
And I said, what about Karamo?
Amen, okay. I appreciate that. Thank you, I appreciate that. Listen, like one of the greatest gifts, like when Maury had left his show and we talked about it, was being able to connect families.
Yes.
Because people don't understand how important this is. And when you don't have any resources, you don't know who can call.
Yes.
So thank you for reaching out to us.
Yes.
And so she—
I was excited because I didn't think he was gonna call me back. Yeah, girl, we wanna help people. We wanna help people, okay?
So you've never met Gwen in person?
Never.
Okay, and how do you feel about meeting her today?
I'm excited, I'm nervous a little bit, you know?
But the last thing you left it on when you all spoke last was just 2 weeks ago was, "Hey, I could be your sister." Yeah. Okay. And all of this happened 2 weeks ago.
Wow, so this is fresh. All right, well everyone, I think it's time to meet your potential sister Gwen. So everyone please welcome Gwen to the show.
Oh my goodness.
How are you doing, Gwen?
I'm good.
You both are beautiful.
Thank you.
You're tearing up. What's going on in your mind? Here you go, love.
It's just been, I'm excited.
Yeah, I get it.
It's happy tears, but it's just, you know, I still wanna know, you know?
Yeah, I hear that. So how did you feel when Leandra first contacted you?
I was confused.
Yeah.
It threw me completely off. Felt like I already met my siblings. I didn't know anything about her. It came out the blue. I went through the same thing. I didn't meet my siblings until I was 33.
Oh wow.
39 now. Okay. So I went through all those years knowing I had, I actually knew I had siblings. I just didn't know how to get in contact with them. I didn't know where they were. And once I lost my, I did have a brother by my mom. Once he passed away, he passed away when he was 18, I just was like, oh my God, I won't have any nieces, nephews. It just made me really wanna meet my siblings after that.
Got it, makes sense.
Yeah, my mom always told me that I had siblings.
Yeah.
Yeah.
She always said that.
By my dad.
Uh-huh. So it makes sense then why you were open to when she communicated with you because you had just been through the same experience.
Yeah.
Makes sense. So I gotta ask you this, would you like her to be your sister? I know you just said you went on a journey to find family yourself.
With this picture? Absolutely, yes. She looked just like us. She looked just like my dad.
I mean, I've been duped before on this show, so I can't say it's just all the looks, but when you both smile, y'all have the same exact smile and cheekbones. It's identical, right? Just looking at it, yeah. Okay, are you close with anyone else from your father's side?
I'm close with Tanisha. They pretty much kept me around growing up. I wasn't around him at all, but they kept me around the family, made sure we stay connected.
Tanisha's the same cousin that you reached out to, correct? Yes. Okay then. So Tanisha's sort of been like a, sort of been in the picture with all of y'all being like, oh, let's connect the dots. She's the mediator.
She's the mediator.
Okay. How will you feel if she's not your sister today?
I would feel bad. Like I would want her to find her dad for sure so that she can connect that piece.
I hear that. Well, Leandra, your mother is here, so I wanna welcome your mother Angela to the show as well. Hi, Angela.
Hello.
How are you doing?
I'm fine, and you?
I'm good. Thank you for being here.
Thank you for having me.
So what did you tell Leandra about her father?
When she started asking about him, I was just like, your dad, you look just like him.
Yeah.
And you have his personality.
So from your perspective, why wasn't he in her life? I know that he's passed away now, but what happened from your view?
We like kind of like branched off. I was young, you know, teenager.
Got it. Were you two in a relationship at the time?
Yeah, when we first met.
Okay, you were in a relationship. And did he know you were pregnant?
Yeah, he told me.
He told you? He told you. Wow, that's interesting. So did he ever meet her?
Yeah, he's seen her.
Yeah.
Yeah, he's seen her.
He did see her. Okay then. I know you said earlier that your mom said that you had other siblings from your dad's side. How did you know that she had other siblings?
He told me, yes. Oh, he told you.
Okay then.
Yeah, so there might be other kids out here that we don't know about.
Wow. When did you know that he died and how did you find out?
My daughter.
Your daughter? Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Gwen, was your father in your life at all?
I met my dad maybe once or twice. The last thing I do remember was his funeral. It was '01. When I was 11. Yeah, so. Okay. Yep.
So you would've been 11.
Yep, I would've been 11. Okay, so that tracks. Yep, and I remember it was a little boy there that they introduced me to as my brother. So that was my first time knowing him. He was around 7 years old. And I never seen him again until like I was 33.
Wow. And how do you feel when she told you she connected with this man's family?
I feel excited.
Had you tried to reach out to them previously?
No, not previously.
Not previously, okay. Were there other potential fathers at that time?
I've been in other relationships and things.
But none, there's no other potential father for her?
No.
You just know that it would be this man?
Yes.
Got it, okay then. All right, so Tanisha, the woman that connected you and your potential sister is actually here in the audience. Everyone say hello to Tanisha. Hey Tanisha, how are you? It's a smile for me. It just, it goes through. So how do you feel when you heard from Leandra?
Oh my goodness, I was totally, I was shocked, I was confused, I was half asleep. And when I saw the message on Facebook, I was like, okay, yeah, I know this person. This is my cousin. Who are you? And I looked at her picture and On her Facebook, it was just like one picture in a cap and gown.
Yeah.
And I was like, I can't tell. And I was like, well, who is your mother? When was you born?
Okay, yeah.
She asked me questions, we were going back and forth, and I calmed down a little. I said, okay, well, let me tell you what I know.
Yeah.
And you tell me what you know, and we can figure it out.
Figure it out, yeah.
Wow, wow, wow.
And apparently this is, you were there as well for Gwen. Doing the same thing, helping her figure out and be a part of the family as well?
Well, I had Gwen since she was a baby.
So you knew already?
Yeah, I've always known Gwen.
Are you close with his, with their other kids, with his other kids?
I am not, no.
You're not? Okay then, got it. So do you want her to be a part of your family?
Absolutely. If she is his daughter, I welcome her with open arms.
And just to make sure that your potential father, your father, is your cousin.
He was my first cousin.
First cousin, he's older than you?
Yes.
Okay then, got it. Well, I think it's time to unlock this 34-year-old DNA mystery. Woo! 34 years you have been questioning and wondering who is your father. 2 weeks ago you got answers that have led you here. And as I've told everyone before, this is not my truth to open. This is your truth to open. So here you go.
I don't think I'm ready for this.
Yeah.
Girl, you better open that thing wide open. As long as you've been searching. I don't think I'm ready though.
I wanna let you know this. Whatever's in that envelope, not only do you have your mother here, you have a potential sister. You have your sister here, you have people that are surrounding you by love, but also you have someone who's trained that can help you navigate through whatever emotions you're going through, okay? So we will be here to support you, okay? Yes. What do you say?
Is this— Is this Cleatra? Quinn is your biological sister.
This is your biological sister.
Oh my God. Is that true, Karamo? Yes, that's yours.
I'm so happy for you.
Here you go, love. Here you go. Come on down here, Tanisha. I got it. Yes.
Let me help you through. You found it. 2 weeks ago, you helped set this off, OK?
Come on. This is you. You did this. Thank you. Thank you so much. You're welcome. I'm so grateful. He pretty. It runs in the family. Yes, it do. Yes, it do. And they always ask my daughter, where is she mixed with? Where is she mixed with? They be asking her too everywhere. I never had the answers.
Yeah.
Never had the answers. Now I got the answers. You got answers now.
You got answers. 34 years you've been searching, and in 2 weeks you got all the answers.
Mm-hmm. 2 weeks. 2 weeks. Look at that. Hallelujah.
Hallelujah to you.
It's helped. Yeah, it helped.
You have a sister, a new sister now, a new cousin.
Yeah. Sister.
Oh, 'cause it all, you know what I mean?
Yes.
But also, like you said, you have your answers. What does it feel like to have your answers now?
It feels amazing. Yeah. It feels like I can finally be happy with myself. And now I can figure out who I am, where I come from.
Yeah.
Not only just from my mom's side, but my dad's side. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 'Cause I always look different. I'm the lightest person in my family on my mom's side. You always get, are you adopted? No. I got that one a lot.
You always got that one.
I was adopted, but my siblings on my mom's side used to tease me and say I was adopted.
Got it, they would tease you, yeah. Similar stories in the same way, yeah.
Thank you, Jesus. I'm thankful. Now that she can enjoy her dead side of the family.
Exactly, enjoy the dead side of the family.
I am so excited.
I gotta say, I'm thankful that you called the show and that you're allowing us to be a part of your journey.
Well, I watch you all the time.
Oh, thank you.
I'm glad.
I'm just so happy that now you have your answers because every kid deserves answers. And you have them now. I'm so happy for you. Congratulations, y'all. First of all, tell me, how did you find out that you may have other siblings that you never knew about?
After my sperm donor passed away, One of my family members reached out to me and told me, so therefore I reached out on his obituary and said that, hey, he's my father as well. And then Jennifer reached out to me.
This is a message from you, Novella?
Yes.
Wow, okay, so you took the courage to say, let me reach out. I noticed in this you said daddy, and right here you said sperm donor.
Because I feel like he's just a sperm donor because you have to be, in order to be a daddy or a father, you have to be involved in your child's life.
Preach on it. Okay, then I understand that. So what was your relationship like with Nathan when you were younger?
What relationship? What relationship?
There was none?
No.
No. Tell me.
He would come and visit us. We grew up in the projects. Uh-huh. So he would come and visit us in a nice truck. He worked for Santa Fe Railroad. Give us, I don't remember getting money to fold, change. Change. We would go to like a, The penny store, I mean the dollar store, get candy, things like that, but.
How many children does Nathan have altogether?
No telling. Well, there's, I know there's 3 more that we didn't find.
So do you think it's like 15 to 20 children?
Yes.
Wow.
Yeah.
What does it do to you two to have these doubts of not knowing who your father is potentially?
It's not gonna change anything because he never was in our lives. You know, we're strong, independent Black women. And we got this no matter what.
You better say it again. Erica's one of the 5 children from Nathan's marriage whom he raised. Take a look at what she had to say before the show.
Novella put a comment on my father's obituary and it said, "Hey, this is my dad. I wish that I got to know his other family." I was excited. They were hard feelings because they thought I didn't believe that they were my father.
Children.
That's not true. From the first time I met them, I told them their mother's word was good enough for me. The reason that there's doubt is because my father didn't sign their birth certificates. I just want to settle the rumors and get it all out in the open. I never said anything about doubting them. I think the reason that there's really tension is that my sister Jennifer didn't know Dana and Novella and she asked him for money, and that's just wrong. You don't ask people you don't know for money. And they associate me with my sister. Yeah, they do. And I've been hurt for the past weeks. I've been crying. I've just— I've about lost it. Growing up, my father was a monster. He was mean. We didn't celebrate Christmas. We didn't celebrate birthdays. We didn't do anything. He was abusive to my mother. My father molested me between the ages of 10 and 12. He molested my sister. I never got over it. I'm still living with it. I want the DNA test to prove that they are my sisters. I want us to go back to loving each other instead of bickering. I want the bickering to stop.
Okay, well everyone, let's bring out Erica right now and get her side of the story. Hey Erica, thank you for being here.
Hi, Karamo. Thank you. Don't cry 'cause you just sat there and lied. No, I didn't. Yes, you did. No, I didn't. You had doubts too, Erica. What doubts should I have? You had doubts. I told you. Why'd you look up my birth certificates? Just tell me that. I didn't look it up. You said you found out we wasn't siblings. I was looking in general. I found another birth certificate and I called y'all and said, "Hey, I found another birth certificate." And then I said, "Maybe we can do DNA for the other." Another birth certificate? Whose birth certificate? Whose birth certificate you find? Another sibling. No, ma'am. I told y'all. Okay, then why'd you call in and tell us that his name wasn't on our birth certificate? Didn't we already tell you that at the beginning? Yes, and that's why I wasn't looking. I wasn't looking. So who looked it up? I've been calling you, sister. Didn't you say that on the sister call that— No. You did. I didn't look on the internet. You said you looked up. And I'm right here in yours. Don't lie to me. 'Cause I know what you saw. I'm not lying. You are. Look, let me get a little closer to you. No, stay right there. Stay right there. I am not lying. Yes, you are. We treated you good. I treated you, I loved you, Erica. For you to do this to me, that is so hurtful.
You hear them saying that they're in pain right now. What made you feel like you had to doubt them?
I never doubted them. Did it come out of your mouth that we may not be Nathan's daughters? Nope. Girl, you lying. Nope.
Nathan had a whole bunch of kids and I'm sure there could have been some moment that maybe, is there a possibility that you could have said something that could made them believe or, lead them to think that you had doubts? So where do you think they're pulling this from?
I don't know. Really? I really don't know, really.
No, Bella, so where are you saying she's pulling it from? Where's this coming from?
Because I don't know where it's coming from, but I know that one time we was on a sister's call and we had brought up the fact because we had just got through talking to Erica and Erica was like, well, he didn't sign your birth certificates and all this other stuff. So that's where it came from.
So I heard you say on this tape that it was miserable for you growing up with your father. Tell me what your life was like.
It was horrible.
And I heard you talk about the abuse. Did your mother leave him after she found out about the abuse?
No. No.
She stayed?
She stayed until she died. Mm-mm-mm. She stayed. I would've left that man, I'm sorry.
What did that do to you? Seeing your mother stay with him?
That hurt me.
Yeah.
I can't get close to anybody because what he did to me. I'm sorry, I just can't. We didn't do it. I know you didn't do it. So, and you left it with your husband and everything, right? That's why, Trina, though, I just can't. I can't do it. Erica, I hate to see you up here crying. I hate to see you hurting. I loved you from day one. I called you my sister from day one. We both did. Always called you my sister. But for you guys to have treated You know, for you guys to have said that, I mean, I tried, I tried, I tried, I tried to be the best sister I could to you. And for you guys to reject me, it hurts so bad. I wanna hug you because I don't want you hurting. But then again, I wanna hit you too. But I love you. You did to me. Jeffrey is the reason for all this.
What happened?
She didn't show up for the sisters' weekend after taking Monet's money. I ripped her a new one for that one. It's like, don't ever take nobody's money if you're not gonna come. I told her. She promised me she was gonna come.
Got it. And so that caused attention right there. So listen everyone, Jennifer is also one of the 5 children Nathan raised. Help me welcome her to the show right now so we can get her side.
Like, don't you dare blame all this shit It is your damn fault. I mean, you know what, I'm not— Whose fault is it then? Who took people's money and didn't come somewhere? Girl, you better sit down. You promised me you were gonna come to the sisters' weekend, and I told you, do not take my nice money if you're not gonna come. And what did you say? What did you tell me? And you didn't even call and thank her. Say thank you. I'm the bad guy of all this situation. But you started it, Jennifer. If you would've done right, we would've had your back. You just don't understand what you had and what you messed up.
Jennifer, I wanna know, do you feel like you were talking about behind their backs, that you were enforcing this sort of narrative that Nathan was not their father?
No, I never said anything like that. Where does this stuff come from then?
We just made it up.
Right, we just made all this stuff up. So you never said it? No. You never said it? I told you who said it.
Y'all both play son.
I told you who said it.
They said that, my producers told me that you said that there have been rumors that your father, there was another man that was the father of Novella and Dana.
Mm-mm, I told—
There was never any rumors that there was another man that was the father?
There was another man, but it wasn't about Novella and Dana. It was about another sibling that you guys have. Girl, don't bring my mom in this. Never just, you bet not. I bet not.
Listen, before we go into a little bit deeper, because there's one more sister here that I wanna bring to this conversation, it's Monet. So can we bring Monet in right now?
Hey, sissy.
Monet, how have you been feeling about what you've been hearing?
It's incredibly sad to me. I've been looking for my siblings my whole life and This is not what I expected. This is not what I expected our experience to be. I knew that there was some animosity and hard feelings, but not to this extent. It's just really sad.
Did you know your father growing up?
I did, yes. You know, he was a part of my life.
What was your relationship like?
On a regular basis.
What was your relationship like with him?
We spent time together. Um, he worked really close to where I grew up, so he would come by a few times a month and spend a few hours with me. We would go out to eat and just hang out and talk. I had a positive experience with my dad. It wasn't until I was 16 years old— we had an incredible evening, and then And after that day, I never saw him again.
Okay. Did you know about these other siblings?
I didn't know about Dana and Novella, but I did know that he had other children with his wife.
So you have some doubt about Novella and Dana being his children, and I wanna know why.
I don't necessarily have any doubt about them being his children. Novella, I did an ancestry DNA test and, um, a family member of Novella shows up on MyAncestry. Um, so I just accepted the fact that they were my sisters. Um, now there is no way for me to know 100% that Dana is, um, my sibling, but I really never doubted that she was. Well, why would you say that?
Yeah, in essence, that is doubting. I, I understand what you're saying, but in essence, that is doubting if you say, well, I know Novella is, but "I can't be 100% sure if Dana is." That's doubting.
Why would she just say that now? It's just the way it is, you know, we— It's just the way it is, but you treat me as your sister. You never said this. Because you are my sister. I've never, you know, it doesn't matter to me. If you never took a DNA test, it wouldn't matter to me. It must matter because you just said that.
The trail of doubt that this man has left.
Yes.
And I'm so sorry for every single one of y'all for this. None of y'all deserve this. And I really hope that if there's ever a man out there watching this who's maybe at the beginning of the situation, he can stop and think to himself, what the hell am I doing?
They deserve to know who their family is, but they don't deserve all this drama.
This is not drama. This is just real life that people go through all the time. Listen, I believe everyone in this family needs a lot of healing. Let's start with the finding out, Novella and Dana's DNA test results. Are you ready to unlock this DNA outcome? Y'all both ready? Who wanna do the honors? 'Cause Dana, you like, Dana said you wanna do it?
Let's do it together. Give me a hug. We'll just work from it. We'll just work from it. We'll work through it. We'll get through it. We'll get through it. Time heals all wounds.
We'll get through it.
I promise you we will. I promise you.
Erica, come sit right here. So y'all, these are all tears of joy and strength 'cause y'all know y'all sisters now. And now that y'all know y'all sisters, y'all have to figure out how to mend together. Y'all learn from each other. Monet, how you feeling back there?
Hey, sissy, we sisters.
You sisters for sure. Monet, how you feeling?
It's wonderful. You know, I'm glad that we all have clarity. I'm glad that everybody knows. I hope that this experience can bring everybody together now that there is, you know, they've erased all doubt. I'm just excited for what's to come.
You just said the perfect thing. Doubt has been erased. How do y'all feel now? There's no more doubt.
I feel better. I want us to go back. So now y'all gonna let us in? I'm telling you right now, I never learned how to be a strong woman. No, but I can teach you.
Okay. Y'all know I'd be like, well, hold on, there's a different way to acknowledge someone's feelings and experiences, but I actually think this tough love's gonna be healthy. And let me tell you why I think this tough love is gonna be healthy, is because I think that there's something about the motherly figure that you have and the strength that you have and the strength that you have that is going to be a good, something good to rub off on y'all. I do think there's going to be more stuff you're gonna learn about their childhood and their experience that you were shielded from. And I think a lot of what's gonna happen now is hearing about their experiences acknowledging them and building them up. This is a moment for y'all to build each other up in a way that y'all could never, because y'all are sisters and y'all got each other now. That man was not a good man. I don't know him, but I can— He was not a good man. All of y'all. But y'all are good women and y'all got each other. Y'all got each other.
Thank you. He keeps on telling me that I'm not her sister, but she doesn't know. This situation wasn't my fault. I was adopted as a child. Our father just died 31 days ago, and this— she wants me to get that DNA test. This really hurts me. I'm still grieving because me and him had this close bond. I went there to see him in the hospital before he died. I went there. I don't know what she's saying about me, but I know for myself I'm a good person. It pisses me off that she's questioning whether I'm her sister or not. I was there for him the day that he died. I was there in the hospital talking to him, praying with him, not her. She thinks that my mom is lying about him being my dad, but I'm gonna prove her wrong.
Everyone, Kiesha's here with me today. Welcome, Kiesha, to the show.
Hi.
Okay, so what do you, how do you feel about what she just had to say?
She's full of it, like she's straight full of it and she doesn't know if my daddy is her dad or not. I don't even think she knows who herself right now at this point.
So how did you find out she was saying that she was your sister?
One of my family members contacted me and said that she was running around saying that she was my sister and then another family member came up to me and called me and told me that she ran up to them saying that she was my sister.
Got it. Did you ever ask your father about what she said?
Yes, I did. Me and my father had a couple of conversations about that and my father told me that she was not his daughter and I told my dad that he needed to get a DNA test, but my daddy passed away.
Got it. Okay. Had you ever heard about her before?
I have heard, I just found out about her, what, last year? Not even.
Got it. And that was the first time?
I never heard about her before. Where you come from, poof, be gone. Please just be gone.
And what happened when y'all met?
When I met her, I looked at her and I told her, girl, there's no way that we are siblings. We don't even look alike and I don't even feel it. Like with my other, my brother, I feel it. You know, I'm good with feelings. With her, I have no feeling, no nothing. Like even when I look at her, there's nothing there. It's just like, girl, be gone. Go find your dad because my dad is not your dad.
So, and I wanna bring this up gently because I know your father just passed away 4 weeks ago.
Yes, he did.
So I'm sorry, I know you're still grieving that.
Thank you.
Have you had communication with her since your father's passing?
No, I have not.
Not at all?
None at all.
Yeah, so she was saying that she was with him in that video on his last days, is that true?
No, I went to the hospital with my dad. When my dad passed away, I was flying in because the doctors and everybody kept calling me. The doctor came out, got me or whatever, and my dad, they still had my dad laying in the room waiting for me to get there. She wasn't there.
And you were close with your father growing up?
Very.
What was that relationship like?
Me and my daddy had a very good relationship. We laughed, talked, vacations. I went to his house, little girlfriends and stuff that he had, I went by their house, everything.
Yeah. So that close relationship has been forever?
Yes.
Yeah. Oh, that's you and your father. That's a photo of y'all?
Yes. And that was at my mother's funeral 'cause my mother passed away September 4th. My dad passed away September 3rd.
What would you do if she is your sister?
If she is my sister, then I would have to accept the fact that she is my sister. But you know, and I don't know. I just, I don't know.
And if she's not your sister?
She needs to go find her daddy.
Well, everyone, I want to hear what Kortiza has to say about this. Everyone, help me welcome Kortiza to the show. How you doing?
All right.
Welcome to the show.
Thank you. I don't know what you crying for. You ain't got nothing to cry for. Because I'm easily gonna buy what my mom said. I don't care what your mom said. My dad is not your dad, so you don't need to come out here with all that fake stuff. And you talk about you was at the hospital and all that. Girl, where were you? My mother called me and I went to the hospital. When? Don't sit up there and lie. Come up on this TV show trying to act like you was doing something. Where was you when the cremation? Where was you when I sat there at the hospital? Where was you when I had to go down there to cremate him? And pay for it. Where were you? Where were you when I went to go get the death certificate? Do you have it? No, I don't. No, because it ain't your dad.
So I gotta ask you, she's asking some valid questions. If you say that you were there, where were you there? Where were you in those moments?
When my mom called me and said that he was in the hospital, I dropped everything and I went to the hospital. You need to stop lying because like I'm telling you, I flew. The doctors called me, everybody was calling me for daddy. That's why I had to come down here, because I had say-so of what went on with my daddy. So don't you sit up here and lie and try to make it seem like you, you his child and all this other stuff. Girl, you're not. Go find your daddy. I— all I— go find your dad.
Why do you think her father is your father?
That's what my mother told me. Okay, I was adopted, so When I got 18, I went looking for my mom. I found her and I asked her, who is my father? And that's when she said— Well, you need to tell your mom to tell you the truth because my dad is not your dad.
So you've been searching for family your entire life?
Yes.
Mm-hmm. And when you found out that this man could potentially be your father, did you ever meet him? Did you have a relationship with him?
Yes, I did.
You met him?
And I really thought he was my father. Yeah. Because of what she said.
We didn't have no relationship. How did you find your mother?
Spin up their lies. Because there was a lady that where I was living at, she knew where she was. She knew where—
Who your biological mother was.
Yes. So she gave me the number and I called her and that's when I met her for the first time. And that's when I asked her these questions.
Yeah.
Well, sure seem like y'all don't have no type of relationship for it to be your mama and y'all supposed to have been meeting. I don't know what you got going on.
And my producer told me that you said that your biological mother got back with your father 3 years ago?
3 years ago. No, no.
Did you know about that?
My daddy may have came and hit it or something like that and left, but no, my daddy was not with your mama. They was not in no serious relationship. My daddy was not living with your mama, so stop lying. Stop lying.
So tell me, what did your mother say about that time they were together?
She said that he was the love of her life. That's what she told me. And that's what I say I think it is, that your mama loved my daddy so much, or liked my daddy, that she want a child by my daddy, but you is not my daddy's child.
When did you meet him?
I met him in 2001.
Okay, and when did you find out about Keisha?
He had told me about her. When I first met him.
Did you try to reach out to her?
No, I didn't.
Why not?
Because I'm a shy person.
What did you want to happen today?
I want to get these results and if I am, I want to have a relationship with her.
Okay, I understand that. I understand that. And you're open to that to some degree?
Mm.
Okay.
I don't know.
Got it, I understand. Got it, I understand, I understand. Listen everyone, it looks like we're getting a ping. Before the show, Quartiza's mother Evelyn had something to say, so take a listen to this.
I met Arthur Harper when I was 17. I was young and he was the love of my life. I got pregnant by him and I had to give Quartiza up for adoption because I was young at the time. We connected 3 years ago and I was with him up until the day he died. He will always be the love of my life. And that is Cortese's dad. He kept telling her he don't care what people say, but that's his child.
I know that there's a lot here, but I gotta tell you this. I saw when that your mother started talking, that, here you go, I saw a little girl that's been adopted and been through a lot. I saw that immediately when you heard your mother talking. This has been a journey for you.
It's very hard.
Yeah.
It's such pain.
I understand how you feel because you lost your father and then this person pops outta nowhere. What's going on in your mind right now?
All I ever wanted was just somebody to love me for me. But you choose my dad.
So it's time for us to get to the truth. And in this envelope is a DNA truth if you two are actually sisters. You asked for this DNA test, so I'm gonna have you open it so that you can see it.
I don't know if I wanna open it.
You don't know if you wanna open it? This is the truth and the clarity you've been waiting for. Here you go, love. You got this.
Kiesha Cortissa is your biological sister.
I don't know what she's looking for.
Because, you know, she has tried to reach out before. I don't know what you're looking for, but all I can do is just say we can just start day by day. I don't know what she's looking for because, you know, she has tried to reach out before. I don't know what you're looking for, but all I can do is just say we can just start day by day. That's right. Take it day by day. Yes, we can. As me being your sister, I don't know, am I the oldest? I don't know. Yes, you're the oldest.
You're the big sister.
Yes, you are.
Do you have any other siblings?
Yes, but they're all younger than me.
Got it.
He's like, "Y'all don't be my big sister." I'm the only child, but my dad has another son.
Yeah, got it.
But from my mom and my dad, I'm the only child.
And at least now from here, y'all can connect. And I'll tell you something, I know you had your brother, but it sounds like you never had a sister. And it sounds like there was not real siblings and real connection in her life. There's something about this bond that could be really beautiful.
That's all I ever wanted was a big sister. And I got what I wanted.
Now, now I understand, 'cause this is a special moment. I need to tell you as well. This is gonna take some time. Yes, it is. It's gonna be a process. So in those moments when you feel like I want the relationship to go faster, just know love sometimes is slower, okay? Yes. So just take your time and just know that as long as y'all can keep communicating, as long as, like I say at the end of every show, as long as y'all can keep talking, y'all will grow together, okay? So good luck to y'all, all right?
Thank you, Karamo.
You're welcome.
Thank you.
I wish y'all the best of luck.
Seriously, I wish you the best of luck.
Hey man, I wish you the best of luck.
Thank you.
I wish you the best of luck as well.
Good luck, good luck.
You can give your sister a hug, one more hug.
Yeah.
So please tell me, how did you find out you had a sister?
So my mom had lost her rights when I was 2 years old.
Okay.
And I was, I've been in the foster care system since I was 2. At 10 years old, I reconnected with my mother and she had told me that I had a sister. But at 10, like, I was young, so I didn't really ask.
Yeah, of course, you couldn't process that, yeah.
Yeah, I was like, okay, I was excited, but I didn't really ask, go into details, like who's the dad. So then at 12, I had asked her who was my dad. She told me his name, she gave me his number. I called him, we talked, He was excited. He was like, "Yes, you have a sister." And he told me her name. And then I had called her on the phone, talked to her, and then I had added her on Facebook.
What a journey for a 12-year-old. Yeah. To like find that information out and then have to do that work to connect yourself. But I wanna go back a little bit. What was it like talking to Larisha for the first time on that phone call?
It was exciting.
Yeah.
I really wasn't nervous 'cause I had always wanted a sister. So I was definitely excited. She was excited. She started telling me like she had knew about me and that she, her mother had held me when I was a baby.
Oh wow.
So yeah, they knew about me.
There's a little tremble in your voice. Are you nervous?
Heck yes.
This is a big moment for you.
Yes.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So how much older is Larisha than you?
10 years, I believe.
10 years. Okay, wow. Okay. And so what was it like in your childhood? I know you said that you were in foster care. Were, at 10 years old, did you then move back with your mother and move in with her or what was life like?
No, so I came into foster care with my two older brothers. They always had their dads, they knew their dads. But then at 9 years old, I was blessed with a wonderful foster mom.
Yeah. Here you go, love. There you go.
Who raised me from 9 all the way up until I'm 18.
Yeah.
And she's still raising me now, so. She has a 2-year-old son and she loves him to death. They're like best friends. So, so she's his grandma, so.
Yeah, okay. I'm glad that you had that support and that you had that. But I know there's, you know, working with kids in the foster care system, there's nothing like you said of knowing biological family sometimes, knowing that information. And so if you and Larisha are sisters because you share the same father. Got it. So, and not the same mom. Yeah, okay. So we have some of your Facebook messages that you all used to send to each other. You're my baby sister and you make me so mad. You remind me so much of me when I was your age and you have so much going on for yourself. You make me so proud. I wanna save you from everything, but I know I can't. And you're so intelligent and you don't even need me to. I love you, chocolate. Oh, I love you more, sisters. All right. So from the beginning it's just been love between you two?
Yeah.
So when did you start to question that you and Larisha had the same dad?
So like at age 14, my mom was on the phone with me and then she was like, "Hey, talk to your dad." He gets on the phone, he's like, "Hi Victoria." And I'm like, "Hi." And then she gets back on the phone and she's like, and I ask her, I'm like, I thought you said I was like, such and such was my dad. And she was like, and then she was like, you have a lot of dads. And well.
Have you ever met Larisha in person?
Yes, so I met her back in September 2021.
And why haven't you got a DNA test before this?
Okay, so I was gonna get a DNA test with the guy, with Larisha's dad, but I didn't wanna tell her. Because if the results came back negative, I didn't wanna mess up our bond.
And so why is it important for you to get these results?
Because I wanna know where I come from. I have a 2-year-old son and I want him to know where he comes from and to know that he does have family on my side.
You two have only met once before today.
Mm-hmm.
So everyone please welcome Larisha to the show so you can see each other. Hi, Larisha, how you doing? Thank you for being here. How's it feel to see each other?
Oh my God. I'm excited. It's been a long time coming. I've been, like she said, I've been looking for a sibling for a long time too. We was talking, well, I was talking to your producers yesterday and they was asking, like, I've never been jealous of anything from anybody but a sibling. It's nothing like sibling love.
And how did you first hear about your potential sister or your sister?
My dad, we were on a bus and we were coming home, I was coming home and he showed me, he just whipped out this picture and he showed me, he was like, "Well, this is your sister." And I'm like, "Oh yeah, Richard." 'Cause she looked so much like him when she was smaller. Like, it was a grade school picture. It was a picture, I mean, she was probably in like 6th grade. And she looked so much like him then. And I rushed home and I told my mom, like, "Mom, he got another daughter." She was like, "Well, I won't put it past him." It took us a minute to connect. We didn't, after he showed me that picture, I didn't see her anymore until he came to live with me after my mom passed. Passed.
Got it, okay.
And that was about 2015. And he was like, "I got your sister on the line." And he put me on the phone with her and we exchanged Facebooks and it's just been a bond ever since.
And we have the post you put on Facebook at that time.
Yes.
That I wanna see. Just found I got a little 12-year-old sister, wow. Oh wow. I love your excitement from the beginning. What was it like meeting Victoria for the first time in 2021?
Oh my God. When I first met Victoria, it was, my sister was mean. I'm not even gonna lie, y'all. When I first met her, she was so— She was not that mean. Yes, she was. Yes, she was. Like, she was so mean. And I'm like, under the circumstances, we met when her mom passed.
Got it.
And so it was heavy. The situation was heavy and that another reason why I just told her like, no, stay with me. I done been through that. My mom passed in 2014. So I know the loss of a mom even through the circumstances of her not having her mom right with her. I know, you know, what it's like. So I told her, no, y'all stay with me. And it was good.
Have you ever met your potential father before, Victoria?
Yes.
At that time?
That time, yeah.
And that was the only time?
Yes.
Okay then. In person. And did y'all get to talk that much during that time?
No, he was trying to give me my space. Makes sense. You know, during that time.
Do you still talk to him?
Oh yes, I do.
You do? How often do you talk?
Well, he just had a really, he's in a really bad accident and so he hasn't been able to really talk much.
Oh, got it. Okay.
But before that, he would call at all times and just check in on me and my son.
Got it, okay then. Yeah, so hearing that, I'm sorry about what's going on with your father, with your potential father.
Thank you.
So this is even more important of this relationship and being confirmed. Larisha, are there any doubts in your mind that this is your sister?
I never had any doubts in my mind that Victoria was my sister because like I said, From the beginning, I just took on to her. But what I am, I am a little reserved with her. I don't put myself as much sisterly as I can be. I can be, I hold back from her a little bit because I don't know.
Listen, we got a ping right now and it's from Victoria's cousin Malia. Okay, let's see.
Okay, so me and Victoria are basically cousins through our moms. I was with Victoria when she met Larissa for the first time, and I just noticed that they were really different. They weren't sisterly-like because they don't really know each other, and it was a bit awkward. But I know as the years went on, they have grew to be more comfortable with each other. My family has always had doubt about Larissa's dad being Victoria's dad because Victoria's mom was messing around with two men at the same time, and she was pretty wild back then. So she just chose Larissa's dad as the father because he was the safest option. I am hoping that Victoria and Larissa are actually sisters because her brothers are incarcerated and Larissa would be her only bio sibling she would be able to lean on.
Did you know that this information that she's been told that there could be another man?
Yeah, so Victoria told me a few years ago, I was at work and she told me like, It was a guy from the neighborhood that could be another potential father for her. And I'm like, I did, like she said, I did get quiet and I did, when I took in that information, when she said the name, I instantly like, well, I had an eye roll in my head, 'cause he does not have a good history with my family. So like I said, our neighborhood is pretty close-knit. Everybody knows everybody almost. And they all, pretty much the ones that grew up in that neighborhood, they still reside there. And so I'm like, no, it can't be him. No, please not him.
Well, you know, this is one of Victoria's fears of if your father is not her father, she's scared that if this other man is her father, that it will cause a rift between your relationship. What do you have to say about that?
A few years ago, I was in that space that if that, if he was her dad, that we wouldn't be able to have a relationship. But we've done come so far and we done had so much come up since then that if he is her dad, then it is what it is. But she'll still be my sister. Okay, got it.
So you still want a relationship if she's not your sister?
Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I also do want one too.
You want one as well?
Yeah.
Okay then. Well, I think it's time to get this DNA truth y'all been waiting for your entire life. Are y'all both feeling nervous right now?
I've been nervous since she done told me she done called y'all.
Well, listen, in this envelope is the DNA truth. It's the question you all have been asking yourselves for many years. Are you two sisters? Do you share the same father? This is not my truth to open, this is yours. So here you go. What do you think? What are you feeling?
Ooh, I think my heart finna jump. I'm nervous and I'm trying not to cry. Okay, baby. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay, baby. You okay. You okay. You got it.
You got it.
You got it. We okay. I want it to come out that she is my sister. It's okay, babe. Because I wanna stop having to find, to keep searching. I don't wanna keep searching, but I will keep searching until I find out my identity and who I come from.
Yeah. Okay, I'm hoping it says sisters and that's not an embrace of like we're not. Is that a happy embrace?
Yeah. Okay, that's your sister? Okay, good. Oh. I wasn't sure at first. I was like, I don't know if this was like an embrace.
Like, I can't handle this truth.
She's my sister.
Here you go, love.
Here you go. Thank you.
Oh my God.
We're all excited for you. We're all—
So the search is over.
It's over.
The search is over. You know this is your sister. You know who your father is. How does this feel?
It feels great. I wish I was the big sister because I always wanted the little sister, but I'll take the little sister. I guess. OK. I'm excited. I'm excited. I'm excited I have an older sister. Yeah. I'm excited.
And how do you feel?
I'm relieved. Like I said, I didn't have a doubt about Victoria being my sister when I seen that picture of her when my dad showed me on the bus. She looks so much like him when she was smaller.
Y'all got tears in my eyes. Okay, all right. All right, girl, look.
Don't be crying, Karamo. I know, right?
I be tearing up.
Don't be crying. But I'm so relieved. I needed this because like I said, I went through my whole entire— I'm 31 years old, y'all. I went through my whole life I grew up with no sibling, you know? And it's like I said, there's nothing like that sibling love. I lost my mom and didn't have— I lost my mom and I didn't have her yet. And then a year later she came into my life and we've been consistent ever since.
Amazing, amazing. And I know especially with, like we talked about before, with what's going on with your father, this is even more important.
And this is even more. And I called, when I talked to him a few days ago, told him, I'm like, well, your daughter done called the show and we about to go over here and find out if we really sisters. Sisters. And he like, oh, okay, okay. So I know when I get to talk to him sometime this evening, he's gonna be relieved.
Yes.
That he know he got another daughter.
And you all live far apart, right?
Yeah.
How far do y'all live?
I live in Oklahoma. And I'm in Chicago.
Oh, so it's hard for y'all to see each other. That's why y'all haven't seen each other since the funeral.
That's why we haven't had the DNA test. That's why we haven't, because of the distance.
Well, listen, you spent all these years apart and now it's time for you to be together as sisters. So I wanna give you both money to travel and see each other.
Oh, thank you.
Because I want you all to continue this journey.
Yeah.
Thank you. Time for y'all to start getting to each other, right?
Yes, it is.
Yeah, we can't stop this right now. There's too much love right here.
Yeah, so much.
You're so welcome. Listen, I'm just so happy for y'all and I'm gonna be checking up on y'all because I love this sister dynamic, okay?
Thank you.
Okay. I'm so glad. 'cause I think you both need each other. You needed this closure so y'all can start this new journey and I'm very happy for y'all.
Thank you.
Congratulations, yeah.
Thank you. You're welcome.
Everyone at home, thank you for being with us. Make sure to come back next time, friends, so we can keep talking and keep growing.
I love you all. I'm here today because I'm trying to figure out if Napoleon is my father. Yes. My mother knew who her father is. My brother know who his father is. My son know who his father is. I'm currently pregnant and my daughter know who her father is.
Yeah.
I had a father figure in my life, but it wasn't really like a daughter and dad connection.
Yeah.
It was a great experience. But he passed away 3 years ago. So I'm kind of hurt 'cause like I'm 28 years old and it's like, who wants to go through this?
Yeah, of course, of course. What were you told about your father growing up?
So I was told that another guy was my father, but when I seen Tim, it was like no kind of connection. So I just immediately told him like, there's no way you can be my father.
Got it. Got it.
I felt as though it was like a waste of my time because it really wasn't a connection with us.
And how did you find out that other man could be your father?
My mother told me.
Your mother told you, okay. My producer told me that there was a twist though when you met Napoleon.
Yes, so when I met Napoleon, I talked to him on the phone and he basically, Karamo was telling me about his daughter named Desiree.
Okay.
So when he was telling me about that, I just immediately like shut him down. And I'm like, oh well, you know, I don't like her. Like I wanna fight her.
Yeah.
And he basically was like, you know, like, you know why, what was going on? But whole time he knew why. So I sat and explained to him like, you know, well she slept with my baby father. She knew who he was and they were just like taking pictures on Facebook and stuff like that. And not only that, she was talking about my son.
Yes.
So that really just tore me apart right there. I didn't want no connection with her or anything like that.
So not only could Napoleon be your father, but your enemy Desiree turned out that she could be your sister.
Yes.
And Napoleon was in jail when you found all that out, correct?
Yes.
Okay then. So what's most upsetting for you in this whole situation?
The most upsetting part is how can someone that is your enemy be, you know, how can I want a connection with somebody that is my enemy that slept with my baby father or that talked about my child?
Yeah.
There's no relation, so I feel like it's a waste of time. My time, honestly. I know who my dad is, so.
But why don't you believe that Davion is your father's daughter?
Well, respectfully, you could walk up to my dad and say you his son. That don't make you his child. But I look like our little brother. I'm talking to Karamo. I look like our little brother, though. I'm talking to Karamo here. Respectfully, we've been down this path. My dad's been there. We done had many possibilities, and they literally all came out to be like negative.
We don't have— Oh, so other women have come forward saying that?
Yes, yes, yes. Like before we found out about her, there's like one, like we have like a little sister, it's probably about like 2 or 3 more. And basically like out of all of them, only one came out to be our real sibling.
Got it.
And I just don't want no connection with somebody that's my, for one, my enemy, for one. So you can't force me to be cool with somebody. And for two, yeah, I just don't, I'm not with that.
I wanna back up. What's your relationship like with your father?
My relationship is perfect. He was in jail most of my life, ever since I was 5 years old, 4 or 5. When I was first born, his mom and his dad, my grandma, they used to come. And as you can see, from age 5 to now, I've been in his life from here and there. And so our relationship is perfect. That's my twin. I can come to him about anything. He's there for me. He's there for my— now that he knows my daughter, we're literally like I kinda still like get, 'cause he's been in Gino Joe. I'm 28 years old, so it's kind of rough, but it's good.
Got it. How bad are things between you two? Because it seems like y'all are, I mean, you called each other enemies earlier, so you consider her your enemy?
Yeah, I don't like her and she don't like me.
Got it.
There's nothing in common at all.
Well, Desiree, you have a 17-year-old brother, Voncier, who is here, right?
Yes.
I wanna hear what he has to say. I wanna welcome Voncier out here to the show. Bonserre, thank you for being here. I wonder what do you have to say about what you just heard?
Honestly, I feel like it's a little bit disappointing because even if whatever the results say, I feel like it really doesn't matter. Honestly, no disrespect, I feel like that's just a paper. At the end of the day, we all should have connection If she's connected to that and we're connected to that through just us knowing that we're already, like, I feel like it should just be that. But at the end of the day, like, it's just hard because I feel like I'm in the middle.
It sounds like you are, yeah.
Yeah, so like, because on one hand I wanna be with Davey and just chill with Davey and stuff, but then I feel like Desi will feel a way if I chill with her.
Got it.
Or like, I don't even feel comfortable calling Davey while I'm with Desi or vice versa or something like that.
I've heard something, you started a group chat with them? What happened?
Yeah, I kind of started. I kind of—
I don't think I can know what happened, right? We all kind of—
Yeah, it was pointless. It was like, it was just, I don't know, but— Oh, you know. You in it. You started it, you know. Yeah, but I just, it was a situation where I kind of went to her son's birthday party. I went to one, but it was the second one that I went to and I didn't tell Desi because I didn't tell Desiree because I didn't feel comfortable. Got it. And I didn't know how she would feel about it. So, and it's just a complicated situation.
Yeah. So you were with your father the first time he met Davion in person, right? Yes, yes, yes. And what was that like?
It was cool. Like we always, me and Davion always had cool vibes. We always clicked like from the first time. That's why I wanted to be both, all of us together because my dad is gonna wanna still want them together like at the end of the day. And so like they both beautiful Black queens, you feel me? So like.
Oh yeah.
Like I feel like, yeah, like. I feel like we should just stick together.
I feel you, I feel you. So if you two do find out that you're sisters, do you think you'll be able to have a relationship?
Am I being honest here?
Yeah, be honest.
Hmm. You can let her answer it.
If you find out you're sisters, do you want a relationship? Do you think you can mend fences?
I wouldn't mind, but I know that it will take time.
Got it. Would you want it?
Maybe.
Maybe, okay. Well, joining us remote is Desiree and Bonserre's dad, Napoleon. So welcome to the show, please, everyone.
How you doing? How everybody doing?
Napoleon, thank you for being here. You've been listening and we're trying to get answers on Davion being your biological daughter. When did you find out about Davion?
I'd say, About 2 years ago.
Yeah.
I first got the inbox.
I was incarcerated at the time and my daughter was like managing my Facebook and she told me like, hey, I got this message for you.
And you know, like any other, you know, well-minded father I know would want to be involved in, you know, his child or I mean, to a degree, any child's life because, you know, children are the innocent part of our existence. So She's an awesome young lady and her son, you know, I embrace them as, you know, child and grandchild. And she's been for me when I was at, you know, some of my hardest times in life, just like my other daughter. And, you know, yeah, and I love her. I appreciate her. You know what I'm saying? I'm definitely rooting for her for the results to come back as my child. And I mean, even if it did, the result didn't come back, she would still be your daughter to me.
So, wow. So why did you ask for a paternity test on Davion?
Well, I mean, you know, for us that are fathers, like, you know, you know, some people, like, they sow their oats and, you know, they lay children around and they just travel, you know, the Rolling Stone whole stigma, you know. And I didn't want to be that guy, you know, because, um, You know, children, you know, they need awareness and acceptance of their roots and where they come from. Like, who wants to feel like unwanted or unclaimed? You know, like I've had my ass showered. So, you know.
Well, listen, Davion, your mother Diana is here. Diana, I wanna say welcome to the show. Diana, you told Davion another man was her father. Why?
When I got pregnant with Davion, I was only 16. I had her at 17.
Got it.
I wasn't with, we wasn't never in a relationship. It was sexual. When I found out I was pregnant with her, he was nowhere in the picture. He was nowhere around. I ended up meeting someone that took that place of her being the father figure for 19 years. So I really didn't think about even questioning nobody else. He was there and that was just it.
Yeah.
Once he passed away, then it was more of, okay, she's more worried about it than I am.
Yeah.
You know, I've been there 28 years, I've done it, I'm not worried about it.
Yeah. But you can understand why she's worried about it.
Yes.
It's her identity.
Right.
You know, she has to wanna know where she comes from.
And that's why I told her, like, I have someone that I need you to talk to. This is potentially your father. And once they got together with each other, I just stepped back. Yeah. And she wants to know, I told her to call your show. That's how we're here. Yeah. And it is what it is.
I hear that. Well, thank you for calling the show. Laura, thank you for having her call the show. Before we get to the results to solve Davion's DNA mystery, I wonder what everyone is feeling right now.
I'm just waiting for the results. I ain't come here for all this. Yeah, 'cause it's not about you. I'm not. Damn, is your name Karamo? Like you wanna do the whole thing? You might tell her to hold the door. You know what? I'm gonna go off your show before she needs to be here no more.
I wanna ask you this. I know y'all have had y'all's history in your past, but you've had a relationship with your father. You're rebuilding one. I know you said he wasn't there for a lot of your life. Can you understand that right now is a moment for her where she's outside of you two and the things that you all went on? She's looking for her father right now. You wanna read? Can I just be clear, Karamo?
When Davion was 5 or 6 years old, I let Napoleon know that I had a daughter. And when I told him that day, like I said, after that he disappeared. I'd never seen him again. So that's another reason why he wasn't brought into the situation so early in the game.
Got it, got it, got it.
Can I say something?
Yes, you can.
All right, so like this is, so y'all getting a view into what I go through. Regularly at the home front, like between them two, like whenever I get the courage enough to try to mesh them together a little bit.
Um, yeah, so like me and Davion, my precious, like we lost contact and, um, I had got incarcerated for a long period of time at a young age.
And so yeah, I wasn't aware.
I don't want to look like, you know, I knew and I didn't care.
She did reach out and then we lost contact And that's true, confirmed.
Yeah, so I gotta— how old are you?
28.
And how old are you?
28.
Oh wow, okay.
So he was busy. And I have another daughter that is 28.
Wow, okay, okay, okay. I mean, listen, I mean, I'm Hearing your story, you know what I mean? And hearing, I wanna make sure, like, again, like you were what, 17 when you had? Yeah, I was 16.
16. Oh, 16. I had both of them. They were 6 months apart.
Yeah, so I'm sure you were looking for your own love, your own support. You were trying to figure out your own life.
Yeah, that's about right.
Yeah, so I get it. I understand what's going on. It's, you know, like you weren't 40 having multiple kids the same age. Right, right. This was a young teen that was confused. I always like to give context because it's easy for us all to be like, what was, hold on, you got that many? But you know, we have to look at the things that led us here. I think it's time to get to the truth and solve Davion's DNA mystery. You all ready for this? Would you like to come down here and be next to your daughter while she does this? So I already know you're hoping this is not your sister. You say you know it's not your sister. You're hoping that this is your sister? You're feeling confident that this is her father?
Yes. Yes.
All right, well, this is your truth to open. He has his finger crossed for you.
I just hope that if it does come back that we are sisters, that we can get past this. Yeah. I just don't got time for, you know.
I appreciate you being open. I appreciate that.
Thank you. Open it, girl.
What does it say?
He's not. Oh, it's okay. I'm not. It's okay. I'm sorry. It's okay. You still baby girl. You still my good job, son. Good job, son. Good job, Jesse. Good job, baby. Still family union. You still one. Good job, y'all. I'm proud. I'm impressed. That's what that is. Black excellence. I hope she better. We can still like get positive. So I want you to throw it. I'm just, I'm just tired of keep on getting close to people and I lost a sibling, so it's kind of like, oh, I'm sorry. I know I came off, you know, kind of hard to you, but it's just that I lost a sibling already.
So what's your—
I apologize to y'all. Like, I deeply thought that was— I was young, you know, I thought that was her father. He's not. There's nothing I can do about it.
I mean, I know you, you always been a good woman.
I know you I already know I ain't mad. You still my baby girl anyway.
Davion, what are you feeling right now? Here you go, love.
Here you go. Still love you. Love you, baby. It's okay. Love you, baby. You ain't gotta worry about it.
You good.
I've been there all this time. You good.
Love you, Davion.
Love you too.
I know that's not the news you wanted to hear.
That's not what I wanted to hear either.
I wanna say thank you to Napoleon for being here. Mom, do you have any other answers of who you think her father could be?
Like I said, I was 16 years old. The person that I thought before Napoleon wasn't, I'm not even trying to think about it.
Was there something traumatic attached to that?
No, I guess it was just me being young and wild, I guess.
Do you know how to contact this man?
No, I don't know. I have no idea. It's like I'm 28. Of course, I mean, I feel hurt. Yeah. But I mean, my mom been there since I was little. And I had a father figure, you know, but he's gone and— And no matter what, you gonna still be our sister, so. Yeah.
I know this is about the DNA, But since there's a moment of vulnerability here, can you apologize for the past? 'Cause she came over and hugged you. Can you apologize for the things you did?
Yeah, I apologize. Yeah, me too. Thank you.
I know this is not the news you wanted to hear, but you've protected your children from ever feeling this pain. I want you to focus on them and know that I'm here for you. I'm here for you to help you if your mother comes up with some more names to help you to figure out. I do believe you deserve this. I also appreciate you in this moment being strong but also vulnerable to make up right here. I'm sure this was weight and like energy that neither of y'all needed and now y'all can release that and move on. And that's a beautiful thing for both of y'all. But I'm here to support you in this journey if you need it, okay?
I'm here for DNA testing for my father Leon. And these maybe babies, they all saying that we're all supposed to be kin, but I've never known of them, so.
Okay, you've never known any of them? No. Okay then. So clarify for all of us, 'cause it took us all back. When you say a maybe baby, what's a maybe baby?
Maybe baby is it is or it ain't your baby. Maybe it's yours, maybe it's not.
Got it.
You know? And you know, my grandmother, she went through this with her husband, my grandfather, having children out of wedlock and things like that. And it brought a lot of tension in our family. Family, and I have 3 children of my own. They know their fathers, of course, they know their mother, and I just want to break the cycle, kind of.
Got it, I understand that. Got it. And so how many possible sisters do you have?
None. But the ladies that's here, they may be, so.
Okay, so you have how many maybe sisters?
I'm gonna say 5, and it's possibly many more.
5 maybe sisters, got it. And let's break down everyone involved in this DNA mystery 'cause I need to understand this. So we have Bonita who's 36, Jessica, you're 37, Kiva who's 39, is it Janine?
Janine.
Janine who's 44 and Jolene who's 47. And so the 4 of them, they're all maybe babies?
All of them are maybe babies except me.
Except for you, okay.
Yeah, yeah, so you know, that's exactly what it is.
Well, Janine is joining us virtually from Turks and Caicos. And Keiko, so I think it's time to hear her side of the story. So everyone please welcome Janine to the show. So Janine, tell me, how do you feel about what you just heard?
Hi, Jessica. Hello, Janine. How are you? I'm blessed. How about you? You're mad that you're a maybe baby? That's what I said. Maybe babies. Not just you, all of you. No, my daddy signed for me. I mean, if he signed for you, I don't know that. That's your truth, my truth is my truth. I'm a Shaw baby. Okay, and at the end of the day, at the end of the day— At the end of the day, you will have to go again and look for your father, 'cause my father is not your father. My father is your father. My father is your father. And at the end of the day, we're gonna get proof right here, right now. This is why we have a problem because— You and the rest of you maybe babies don't wanna hear the truth. It's not my fault he didn't take care of y'all. It's not my fault he wasn't there. Are you done? Maybe. Okay. Jessica, that's why, I mean, you can't get along. I didn't come on the show because it would be blow for blow. Yes, ma'am, and you're right, it would be, and that's exactly what I just told Karamo. I can never sit next to you. Not because you act like a white kid, but you are a white kid. It is because of that. No, I am the Sugar Honey Iced Tea baby. Let's get it right.
So, Janine, you don't think Jessica is one of Leon's children even though she was raised with him?
She is not. He told me personally he met her mom when she was 8 months old. No, definitely not. Definitely not. Your mom is lying to you? Definitely not, definitely not. And if my mom lied to me, yours lied to you as well because he was pimping them all. No, he was with my mom. He was with all our mothers. He was with all of our mothers, obviously.
He loved both of us.
If he loved you and your mother, why do you have a problem with how he took care of me and raised me and not you? Because you a baby baby. Okay, well we'll see who the baby baby is.
So why didn't you feel the need to get a DNA test, Janine?
Because he signed for me and him and my mom had a relationship.
Got it. He was on your birth certificate, he was—
He is on my birth certificate.
Got it, great. And then, so what was his reason for not being involved in your life as a kid? Did he ever tell you?
Because he was in the United States taking care of maybe babies. God. Maybe baby? I am his baby. He took care of me, but I— But he signed your birth certificate. Birth certificate and didn't take care of you. And that's what hurt me so, because you're a maybe baby and I'm a lawful kid. Well, we could have came together. We could have came together, but you are rude, so I'm gonna be rude too.
Okay. All right, everyone, well, I think it's time to meet Bonita and hear her side of the story. So everyone, please welcome Bonita to the show. Hello, Bonita. How are you doing?
Hello, Karamo. Karamo, how are you?
Thank you, thank you for being here. So what are your thoughts on this situation?
I think delusion cause confusion.
That's the truth.
I think they both delusional. And maybe then so are you. I think they're both delusional. And so are you. First of all, who cares who signed what, who got raised with what? You didn't get nothing. Neither one of y'all ain't got nothing. But what did you get? You know what I got? A lot of trauma, a lot of fun bucks, I guess. So we all got the same and we all got the same pain, but Nina. You did that.
Yeah, we did.
You got to be daddy's girl. But still, I got to be daddy's girl, but You can't sit here and act like you actually have some type of right to even call somebody a maybe baby when your ex chromosomes can't match him no more than mine. Okay, well, we gonna see today. I'm just so confused that how a couple of months of an addict, I'll just stick with that, raises you for like 3 years, because you're delusional if you think that man stuck around till you were 16. Yeah, he did. 16, in a trap house. You call raising you and whoever else up in a trap house raising you? Raising you. But how did you know? That will cause confusion. But how do you know that he raised me? She's a little dropout. She has a— therefore you don't. Therefore you don't. The group to her, with everybody in it, actually for once we was all on one accord to meet her. Yeah, this is the energy that she brought. You see what I'm saying? So if you're so broken to where you don't even want to have a typing conversation, how we gonna get—
when you all came together, you all— the rest of you—
all I did was brought it to her.
Yeah, brought it to her. But when the rest of the sisters without Jessica were in it, you all were in agreement and accordance like, okay, we're all together. There was a friendship?
Yeah.
Okay, great.
I don't wanna say it was like a common ship. Friendship where? It's common ship. Common ship. We common have the same person that might be our enemy. But we're commonly doing this. We common, we have the same common enemy. We have the same common enemy. And you acting like now y'all two act alike. I bet that we do. I bet that we do. I bet that we do. Even though Janine ain't no better. Both of y'all delusional in my case.
And you know that Janine had doubts about you?
I did not. I learned that just now.
Just now?
I just learned that just now. Got it, got it. Which kind of stirred up in my spirit because he signed your birth certificate, never was there. You met him when you was 40 and you have so much aggression though for this guy. And it is misguided anger. And I'm trying to help out these ladies. I really, really am, but it's only but so much I can take. So that's why we're here.
Got it.
Because this is my trying to help them. The delusion will cause confusion. I'm tired of having a lot of confusion in my life. I'm the one that was actually on my own.
Yeah.
You see what I'm saying?
You were on your own.
I actually grew up on my own, okay? You got raised, you got a signed birth certificate. Guess what I got? Foster care, okay? So all this what they talking about, you talking about this man like you win a prize for him. For being his daughter. You don't win nothing.
Got it.
You don't even win a good relationship apparently. And I'm just trying to find all of the fun bucks you win for being his child.
I hear you, I hear you. And you know, I 100% agree with you in a lot of this. And the reason being is because again, like I said before, it was breaking my heart to see you two argue over somebody who did not give either of you the love or support that either of you deserved. And yes, I know that there's a protective nature when you want to come for the person who is supposed to be your father, who's supposed to be there. But like at the end of the day, there was 40 years you went, Janine, without this man being there, without giving you support, love, financial support possibly that you deserved. You were there and he was there for you, but then at a point he abandoned you. And that causes deep pain for all of you. You didn't have him in your life. And so I agree with you a lot of that because it's like, We're arguing over what? Over shared pain? No, that needs to be channeled into how can I support each other, and I get that. I see you eye to eye.
I see it. And where I feel like I'm at with it, I didn't know that he was so sick, but I did hear when I did speak with Janine about that he was so sick. I still want to try to do something for him because it doesn't matter how you lived your life. If you come out here and and you're my dad, I'm gonna put every lick in my pocket together to come and get a flight over there to come and see you. You see what I'm saying? Because for me, I'm on a healing journey.
I hear that. I want y'all to know we reached out to the other women that say they are also Leon's children, but they declined to participate. So will you keep in contact with those that declined?
If you're not here today via Zoom or here on the couch, you're not my sister.
Got it.
Where my real sisters at? What are you—
Well, there's two more people involved with this DNA mystery, and it's Kiva and Jolene, who Jessica has never met. So everyone, please welcome Kiva and Jolene to the show.
Hey. Hello, ladies.
How y'all doing?
Fine, how are you?
I'm good, thank you.
Hello, hello.
What does she call you?
How are you? I'm number 1, she's number 2.
Oh, she calls you number 1 and number 2?
Mm-hmm.
Hey, Janine.
You ain't her sister. You number 6. Hey, Karamo. I don't know what I am. I'm a stepmate. She number 6. She looks like my Grammy. You don't. You do, yes, you do.
Well, I think it's time for the DNA truth. This is when there are no more maybes in this situation. This is for you, Kiva. This will let you know if you and Jolene are related because this is for siblings. Because we're not able to test your father, I wanna make sure everyone knows, we are able to test and see if you all are siblings. Yes, okay then.
And not able to test him because life flew past him. This is what, this should be a lesson that If you do not take care of your children, maybe babies, whatever, that you bring into this world, life will catch up with you. Yes. Yeah. Yes. Okay. I wanna hear the results.
What's it say?
Yes. We are biological sisters.
Okay. So it says, what does it say? So can you read the card out loud? I wanna see what it says.
Me and Kiva, you are biological sisters. And I was the one that was having doubts, because I look like my momma's side. Momma look like us too. I mean, I look like them too, but I look like my momma's side too. So I was a little confused.
Got it.
You know, so that's the whole reason. But me, personally, I wanted to be able to take my children over there to see my dad's side of the family. I'm gonna get the GoFundMe.
So you now know. This is your dad?
Yes.
And this is your sister?
Yes.
Okay, got it.
That's nice to meet you. That's nice to meet you too.
Jessica and Bonita, what are your thoughts on this? How do you feel?
It's cute.
It's cute? All right, the next DNA mystery is for you, Bonita. This one will tell you if you are sisters.
Okay.
Here you go.
So, this is a lot for me. Because I didn't have my mom or my dad or really not a lot of family. My husband was a lot of my family. So this right here is a lot for me. Because I do like, I love Keba, I love Jolene. So this right here is a lot because I actually can get started on that GoFundMe to go see y'all daddy. We still didn't find out. We still didn't find out. It's still a maybe over there.
I understand. I wanna take a moment because I understand most of you know my career before getting in television. I worked in the foster care system. I worked in child protective services. And so I understand for you especially, not having any mother, not having any father that you knew of.
No sisters. It was literally just me. I literally got emancipated at 16. I bought myself my sweet 16 car. You know what I'm saying? It was literally just me. So my maybe is over. Jolene and Kiva are biological sisters. It's a big one. Not a maybe. I love you too. Love you too. Love you, twins. 'Cause we really act alike. Like, we really act alike. Yeah, me and Bonita, we can relate because we both didn't have our moms growing up. But I was raised by someone that spoiled me and she lived different, so it is. Congratulations. Hard night. Thank you. You don't gotta tell me congratulations, girl.
So Jessica, in this envelope is your DNA results. I know that you were raised with Leon and that you had him until he was 16. And so here's your answers right here.
Delusional. Thank you. Delusional. And I just want to say, you know, regardless of what these results are— You're maybe? No. If I am, I am. And y'all are not. So congratulations on y'all support. First of all, I'm not talking to you because you on the screen. And I'm not talking to you because you bought your I can't even, I can't even, I can't even talk to you face to face, Lil Baby. It is what it is. Don't worry, you'll get your phone books for that being your daddy. Don't worry about it, you gonna get your phone books, girl. Jessica, Jolene, Kiva, and Bonita are not your biological sisters. I told you. I know that was going to happen. I told you. It's all good.
No, no, no, no, no.
My daddy told me. Shut up. By this time, why ain't you here? I don't even want to hear you. Don't— anyways, ladies, I apologize. Why are you crying? I apologize. Why are you crying? I'm not going to entertain clowns, so I apologize. It's okay. Why are you crying? And I will, and I, I will if y'all don't have Me too. Yes, because I don't have an issue with y'all. Like Karamo said, my issue is with Le— I got some treats for you. Thank you, thank you. And maybe one day me and Janine will get— you know what, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Thank you.
I'm completely sorry, Jessica. I gotta be honest with you. I was not expecting that from this story.
Me either. I wasn't expecting that from you. I was expecting it from me, actually. Well, because I know you're good.
It's okay. I appreciate in this moment how y'all all came together and supported because I think at the core of it, that's what's always been underneath this. And I said that from the beginning. The pain that you all have felt has not been, it should never have been towards any of y'all. It was towards one man who did step up and do what he needs to do for any of you. Yes. You know? And I appreciate because the core of the love showed up in that moment.
Yes.
And I'm happy you have answers. I'm happy you have answers. And I'm so sorry for this moment for you. But if there's any support you need, we are a resource here. We will support you in any way we can, help you figure out whatever you need to get figured out.
I'm sorry.
Can I just— No, no, no. You take your time in a moment. I think that was It was a shocker to all of us.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But I am gonna put, I'm gonna try to just help us really come together to channel this pain and take his last moments. Yeah. To everybody go over there and channel this pain to actually do some good. Tell him that it don't matter what you did. You know what, let's end this on a positive note because he is in bad health and she is the only one over there taking care of her daddy. Yeah. She is the only one. Now that we do know that he's dying, If he is our father, I will try to put something together for us to try to go be by his bedside, or at least try and help her or whatnot. Now that I know that this is really my sister and I'm gonna have to deal with her, so. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I got to deal with you. I mean, ain't no more maintenance now. I'm stuck with you.
Well, we do know Well, we do know that there's no more maybes of you all coming together because this moment has brought y'all together and I'm happy you all have answers. I'm happy you all have the truth now. I'm sorry it didn't turn out the same for all of you. I really truthfully am, but I'm happy that you all have now clarity and no more maybes. Thank you all for being here. And again, any support you need, I'm here and I wish you all the best of luck How you doing?
DeJuana is my niece. All she wants to know is the truth. I know Venecia's father, Larry, is DeJuana's father. Let me break it down for you. I knew Larry, Venecia's father, my whole life. My brothers were best friends with Larry. He was around our family before Venecia's family even came to the city. Venecia's father, Larry, was messing with my sister in their early 20s, and that's how she got pregnant. I remember his mother coming to my mother's house, and she said that he got my sister pregnant. And my sister was pregnant before Venecia's mom was even in the picture. And I don't know why they're acting like he ain't her father. DeJuana deserves to know who her father is. Vanesha's dad is Diwana's father and the DNA will prove it.
Okay. So how do you feel about what was just said?
Listen, I'm not saying that, I never denied. I went by what my father said on his deathbed. He said he had 4 children and on his deathbed he named us by our first, middle, and last name.
And there was no mention of Diwana?
And there was no mention of Diwana.
I gotta ask you, have you ever had a relationship with Diwana?
No.
So do you want Dewana to be your sister?
No.
Okay then. If she is your sister, do you wanna have a relationship with her?
I think that will depend. I think that depends on her too. It has to be mutual.
Got it.
I won't be mean-spirited at all. Of course. But I'm not saying that we're gonna sit down and have brunch.
Got it, okay. And what will you do if she's not your sister?
I'ma act like I'm on the Maury Show and run around and throw myself on the floor. I'm free.
The cameraman that invented that run back is back here, so he's ready for you, okay? Just let you know, he is here and ready for you. All right, everyone, I wanna hear Vanesha's potential sister Diwana's side to this story. So can we welcome her to the show? Everyone, welcome Diwana to the show. Okay, Dewana.
First of all, all this mess you out here talking about my family, I wasn't looking for y'all. Your mama came to my house to tell me your daddy was not my daddy. What place is that to tell a 12-year-old? She thought I was gonna run in the house and cry like a little girl? I'm only going by what my family told me, okay? And like I said, no, your father's not the only option. There is another one, okay? But I'm a queen. And I'mma tell you, I'm being pulled by y'all and them. You want me to be your sister. You wanna say, that's my big sister. That's my big sister, okay? Look at me and look at y'all, okay? You could call me a foxy queen. Y'all looking like some fat cats, okay? You put Foxy Brown in front of them, no I don't look like y'all. No, I ain't got no green eyes. I don't need no green eyes, but I wear this green real good, okay? Let me tell you, I'm not looking for no relationship with y'all. I don't care what the results is. I'm gonna continue to be me. Okay? Well, who's ever taken that from you, Dewana? For one— Who's ever taken that from you? Who said anything got taken from me? I was raised with a boss, okay? You sit up there and I asked you for a picture the other day of this man, and I seen that message you left me 2 years ago, and I left it there 'cause I wasn't allowed to.
What'd the message say?
The message said that It's a shame my family lied to me. It's a shame I feel rejected. It's a shame I feel unwanted. That you feel that way, not me, right? Yeah. That's what you said to me.
I'm gonna clarify.
But let me tell you, I was never rejected. I was brought up in a house with two parents, okay? One was my godfather, the other one was my auntie, okay? Yeah, so I didn't miss out on nothing. Okay. It wasn't about the love that was shown. It was about the facts. If you're going to say something, back it up.
I gotta ask you, did he ever try to talk to you?
When I turned about 18, 20, allowed in the barroom.
And he tried to talk to you?
And he came up to me and I looked at him. I didn't give him a chance. 'Cause at 12 years old, you had a chance to run your mouth, but you let that woman come tell you where your been at. That, I was before your mom, I was before y'all. So if she felt that she was embarrassed about, it came before her. There was no relationship before. You never came out before then.
Oh, can I ask you a question really quickly? Did your mother, did you ever ask your mother about him?
No, I didn't. Like they said, I was raised with my aunt from day one. And my mom did go out, you know, and she was a party holic. My auntie said, I'm taking, I'm gonna raise this baby. And she was already pregnant, 8 months pregnant. 30 days later, she had her own bundle of joy. Something special, Venetia. She took me in there before she even had her own.
So you didn't have a good relationship with your mother?
I wouldn't say I didn't have a good relationship with her. My aunt always wanted to know, let me know who you related to. She didn't want my mom to feel like she was better than my mom.
Yeah.
So she let me know, this is your mom, that's my sister, this is your dad. And so every time my mom would come or my sisters would come, I'm like, maybe I wanna go with my mom. Boy, when I went home, It wasn't, I didn't have everything down there that I had up here. And I couldn't understand it, so my mom took it like, you think you're better. So when I would get in trouble, she would say, you think Larry give a dang about you? I was like, is she saying Gary, is she saying Larry?
And did you have any potential relationship with him at the time? Like when he came down here during that time, there was no like take you out to lunch, do anything?
Nothing. Nothing, okay. So, and I feel like, and I'm not mad, I'm not mad about the situation, but I'm gonna let your daddy and your mama and whoever stand on them words. You are not related to him. And if you say he told you before he died that he was not, why you got me sitting on this couch? Because it needs to be resolved. It needs to be resolved. And it's not about you. This ain't about you. This is about me. Me. She came out with this persona that I'm this and that. I don't care about that. I really don't. All I care about is getting down to the bottom of the issue. I have never tried to put you down. I have never tried to talk you down. All I wanted was this resolved. I even came to you as an adult and asked you if we could get a blood test. Okay. And it was never, it was never resolved.
Why didn't you accept the blood test then when she said it was true?
Because they did. I didn't want a blood test. Okay, they got, she had money to do this DNA. I didn't care enough to take my little change in. Nobody asked you to pay for it. We could have went half and half. If it was about that, then you could have addressed that as an adult. You have never, the way you came out here was disrespectful and ugly. First of all, adults is your mama, my mama, and your daddy. They should have handled this. Exactly, and that's why I said, do you have a doctor? Attitude with the wrong person. Baby ain't got an attitude with you. You got an attitude. You sitting there talking about my family. That's enough for me to have an attitude. Your family is spiteful. Do you want to get to know it? Because he never stood up as a man and said that's my child.
Do you want to have a relationship with her?
No, I do not.
You do not want to have a relationship with her?
But she don't know me, so you can say you're going off of what? And it's not that I'm hating you.
Are you going off of what?
Because she don't know me.
You weren't raised together.
Yes, and then we had all this rumors and there was a possibility nobody came to Kumbaya. It was a dress.
Yeah, I get it, I get it.
What does it mean? If I just said I came to you as an adult and said we could get this resolved. I'm surprised I'm sitting here with this guy. My parents came in there.
Well, what would these DNA results mean to you? What would it mean to me? Because I understand, hold on, let me say this. I appreciate the fact that you were raised in love even though the adults who should have been responsible mismanage some of your life. And that is the truth. They mismanage how they handled your emotions. They mismanage things. But what I'm thankful for is that you still found strength. You still found pride. You still found love because that always doesn't happen like that. And I'm so thankful because I see your confidence and I see your beauty and I see your energy as you walked out here. But at the end of the day, there's still unanswered that you have. And no matter how confident we are, you deserve the truth. The little girl in you deserves that truth.
And I'm not gonna lie, like I said, I did not wanna come to this show. I never thought I would be on this show.
Yeah, well girl, you made for TV, girl, so I'm glad you're here, girl. You made for TV, girl.
Even when we were talking about you not my sister, you are my sister, I was like, you know what, no, there wasn't mention of DNA. I said, I do not wanna go to Maury's show. And he said, you are related to these fat cows. I'm sorry, at the time, that's what I was going through. We was arguing. It's not that. We have never argued, DeJuan. 'Cause there's a lot of things that I can say about you. My weight, baby? Don't bother me with that. It's gotta bother you, but it bothers me. 'Cause it ain't weighing on my back, baby girl. You gotta carry that weight. You gotta carry that weight, not me, baby. It's not mine. That's right.
All right, well, everyone, I want you to help me welcome Dewana's Aunt Lauren to the show to hear her side of the story as well.
Yeah, I'm the loud one, but Larry was doing I'm doing my sister. This is before y'all. Y'all cannot change it. Y'all talking about hurt. This girl hurt and she can't express her hurt 'cause she trying to be so strong 'cause who wanna be rejected? Y'all didn't wanna be rejected. Y'all didn't wanna be rejected. I'm not gonna hurt no sister. But your mother was 16. 16. And she controlled everything. No, she didn't. He was a man and you talking about he died because of this, roots and all that. No, he died 'cause he drank himself to death. No. Right along with my brother. No. All that stuff y'all on is bull crap, Venetia.
So what do you want to happen today?
I want him to find out the truth.
I think it's time to unlock the DNA truth and get your answers.
Yes, yes. If it is, it is. If it ain't, it ain't. Yeah, it is. That's the way it go.
In this envelope is the DNA truth that you have waited years for, Venetia. You called the show because you said I said you needed this truth so that you can move on, so that you can find your answers and free yourself of this weight or move forward in the relationship. So this is not my truth to open, this is yours.
As John, you can understand why I don't wanna be— I don't wanna be in your shoes. It might not be, and if it is, I'll flip out on you. My biggest thing is I did this for results for your life as well as mine. I have never approached you me and said anything. I've never called you out of your name. I've never called you ugly. I've never said any of that stuff. I've never approached you like that. And you could— only thing y'all was doing that was rude was saying, you're not my sister. Um, but I didn't run around and saying that. I said it to you, and I approached you as an adult. I have never came to you as anything less than a lady. And I was not— and I have never— I was not looking for y'all to ever be my sister.
Okay, well, I think—
okay, don't do that. Don't do that. Anyway. Just all the way. Anyway, exactly. Well, stomp your feet. It wasn't worth it.
What does it say?
Jeez. Somebody else. I've just been waiting for this for a long time.
Yeah, what does it say?
Venecia, Dewana is not your biological sister. All right. Thank you. There you go. I'm happy too. We don't have to do that. There you go. Now y'all see it too, yeah. There you go. Okay, y'all, we gonna have part 2. She got another one. Her mother ain't, this is wonderful.
I'm gonna tell you this. Do you have, first of all, I'm glad you got your answers.
Me too.
Because I know this has been years for all of you. That is so good. The truth is, the truth is, is that, me though, the truth is, is that through all of this aggression and stuff, the pain, the hurt, the addiction, all of that, You got hurt in all this too. There's so much, everyone got hurt.
And that's what I was here to resolve, hurt. I wanna carry on the rest of my life. I didn't call her no names. She came out here attacking me. I'm not that type of person. They can put that on me all they want, but I have never been that type of person. I don't attack people. I'm about love, I'm about unity. I'm about a whole lot more stuff.
Well, the beauty of this is that, the beauty of this is that The good thing about this is that you both got your answers and this chapter is closed. It's over. But for you, but for you, but for you, DeJuana, if you want—
Where's the camera at? 'Cause she gonna put it on TV. She like that. Newcastle. Y'all know what it is, right? Yes.
So you know who it is?
I do. Make a story short, we grew up. Grew up in the same neighborhood. All of them. We're best friends. And we've always knew this, there was rumors with him and with them. And so we've always knew. She was friends with the other side? Yes, I'm very close with the other side. For whatever reason. We were raised like we're blood sisters.
Okay.
And we've always knew. Now, as I'm here at the show, the aunt's saying, I don't know why she there 'cause my brother is her dad. I tell my daughter, what she say? The other auntie, yeah, I remember that Tabby lady used to have some dresses.
I will tell you this, if there is a sister or brother on that side that wants to confirm, we'd be more than happy to support you. Because the thing is, at the end of the day, the adults, they said what they need to say, they had their truth, but the only truth that's going to matter is the DNA truth.
Yes! So. Yes, yes. Thank you so much.
So if you want our support, if you want our support, —support.
We're here for you. I'm happy I met you.
Yeah, I'm happy I met you as well. Love you. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate that as well. Listen, thank you for being with us, okay? Yes. She actually ran, y'all.
Y'all see that? She actually ran.
Thank you so much.
I appreciate you.
Thank you.
You have a job for 3 years. Thank you so much.
I'm glad you could Thank you. Thank you. I know. I appreciate it. You just did a lot for your family by breaking that trauma. Thank you. It's a good job. Congratulations. See you later.
