Did I Find My Sisters Three Weeks Ago?! | KARAMO

Antoinette used DNA testing to find two half-sisters, Promise and Asada, after her mother kept her father's identity secret her whole life. Their father is incarcerated, and Antoinette's mother gave birth at 13. The DNA test confirms they're biological sisters, giving Antoinette the family connection she'd been searching for.
Chapters
My mom had me when she was only 13. I feel like my mom resent me when I was born because she had me at a young age, so I felt like she didn't even know what she was doing as a young woman. I never knew who my father was or anybody or anyone from his side of the family. No one would ever give me answers, and when I asked, they would always reject me. I always felt like an outcast in my family because it was always like everyone knew who their dad was and everyone knew who who they was related to outside of my mom. I tried searching for him, but I never had no luck. When I finally got a lead onto who he might be, I reached out to Promise and Asada. And then she stated to me that he's in jail facing a serious charge. So I was just more like, "Wow." Like, it made me question everything. Was there a reason no one told me everything in the past? It feels like there's so many dark secrets. I never met Promise or Asada. I can't believe I'm actually going to meet them for the first time. So this DNA truth is actually life-changing for me.
Listen, everyone, we will meet Antoinette shortly. But everyone, first, please help me welcome her potential sisters Promise and Asada to the show.
How y'all doing?
Good.
How are you?
I just got to let y'all know at home, when I walked out here and I saw these two, I was like, y'all are gorgeous.
Gorgeous outfit.
Thank you.
Can I see?
'Cause I like when people dress on this show.
Can we get a little thigh girl? Like, show the girl.
Come through.
Come through.
Yes.
Listen, well, thank y'all for being here. Thank you. So, Promise, how did you find out about Antoinette?
First, I just wanna say, the second I got the news, I just knew nobody can help us but you.
Like, as soon as we got the news—
I appreciate that.
I texted you. I texted you. And then, well, first she reached out to one of our brothers. Yeah. On a DNA website, she reached out to us and then she didn't get a response for about 3 months. Then she found my oldest sibling. She found our oldest sibling and then she responded to her. She was not really so open about the situation. So then I took it upon myself to reach out.
Got it.
I reached out to her, we had great conversation. I was asking her typical, normal questions and I was kind of open to her. I was happy to have a relationship.
Oh, you were open?
Were you open at the time?
Yes. Oh yeah.
I was open. My other sibling, she wasn't as open because they actually have a mutual friend. So she thought, no, this is so-and-so trying to set me up. And I was like, girl, take it with a grain of salt. Let's just explore, you never know. And I was very receptive of my sister.
Did you ever hear about her before she reached out?
No, but my dad would make jokes about, you know, I probably have kids everywhere. So I was like, I didn't put it past him. So I'm just like—
Yeah, and I was not surprised. My dad is outside.
Yeah.
Yeah, he's really outside. So it was at the point where you probably do got kids.
Okay, yeah. How many other siblings do you know about?
We have 8 in total.
So he was outside.
He was outside.
We have a couple.
He has a couple. And after, My brother, he just kept having like little ones. So we have about 3 younger siblings. Oh wow. Under the ages of 4.
When you found out about Antoinette, did you ever ask your dad about her?
I did. And when I, I just told him like, hey, there's some girl, she reached out to us, she might be our sister. And he was like, what's her name? And before I can say it, he said it. He's like, Antoinette. And I was like, oh, shit, you know more than me? Like, okay.
Oh, okay then.
Asada, what was your experience with your father growing up?
My experience with my dad, I feel as though he tried to be a hands-on father, but he couldn't. Yeah. And when I say he couldn't, it's more so like he didn't have that father figure in his life to teach him like, you know, this is how you be a father. He didn't have that. So us going around him during the summertime, it was like we'll be around, but he'll be in the next room. Or we're not going to the park, we're not going on adventures. If we're doing something, if we was supposed to do something, he'll sabotage it. Yeah.
Present but not present.
You ever get what I'm saying? Yeah, it's always an argument or if we going outside with him, it's to just get in trouble.
Do you have a good relationship with him now?
I don't speak to him anymore.
No, no more?
I communicate with him. We don't have the best relationship, but that is my dad, so.
Yeah, got it, got it, got it. And do you have a good relationship with your other siblings?
Yes, I have a great relationship with them. The youngest one, I'm just still trying to build that. Over other situations. But other than that, I'm pretty close with all my siblings.
And I heard Antoinette say that she's never met y'all.
No.
Like at all.
I'm so nervous just seeing her on the screen.
I'm like, oh my God.
You said you had never seen her on the screen?
Yeah, she looks like my aunt so bad.
She looks like her.
Uh-huh, okay.
That's who she looks like.
I think that's my twin, y'all.
So let me be clear, you two have different mothers though?
Yeah, we have different mothers.
Same father, different mothers.
Okay then, perfect.
But my mom like raised us.
Yeah, raised us.
Okay, cool.
She helped raise us.
Okay, so y'all are really close.
Yeah, we're close. Like, this is my sister.
All right, listen everyone at home, for the record, this will be the first time that you two ever meet your potential sister Antoinette, right? So everyone, please welcome Antoinette to the show.
Yeah. Wow, you look like me.
Thank you for being here. Thank you. How does it feel to meet Promise and Sada for the first time?
Oh, I was nervous, but wow, y'all look just like me.
Because I'm older.
I might be older, but y'all look just like me.
I was like staring like, ah, she is.
Yeah, she has similarities.
All my sisters are short, and this is like, she my height too.
That's perfect.
Yeah. So how did you find them?
I was on, what is it, a genetic? Yeah. It was like a genetic. And I actually found the brother first. And when I found the brother, the brother was taking too long to write me. So I had went into more details. Yeah. 'Cause you know social media, you could do everything on social media. If you wanna find anybody, you're bound to find them. So I went to social media and I was just like, you know what, let me look for it. I started looking up they real names 'cause I see that he put his, his sisters, who his sisters were. So I said, "Oh, let me go look up they name. Let me see what I can find." And I wind up finding one of the sisters, she was just very nonchalant with it. So I was just like, "Okay, so can we get to the bottom of this and see what is we gonna do?" I just wanted, I'm not trying to, I said, "I'm not here to actually mess up anything. I just wanna know who I'm related to because I don't know." So I'm just here to look.
Yeah, I'm sure that hurt a little bit 'cause you know, you're just, as you said, you're just trying to, find out who you, where you come from, find out your identity. And then the first person's not responding and then the second person is being nonchalant and you're like.
Yes, I'm like, what's going on?
I'm like, why is it like y'all so nonchalant with it?
That's why I texted you though. 'Cause I just wanted you to know like.
She wrote me.
You were like, I'mma help her.
I wanted to know her.
Like I felt like, you know, like it was like.
Yeah, that's good.
I don't know, it's just something in me felt like I should help her whether we are sisters or not. Like she doesn't deserve to not have any answers or you know, like.
Yes, and I was so happy that she wrote me and I was like, "Yes, I just wanna find out." We clicked instantly. I'm like, "I'm not here to mess up anything." I said, "I just wanna know, you know, how can we find out? What can we do to see how?" And then she brung you up and it was, when she brung you up, it was like, I'm like, "I ain't gonna lie, I Googled you. I heard very good reviews." Okay.
So I wanna make sure that, 'cause I'm like, "I need to know where we're going." Yep.
So what have they told you about your potential father?
So basically, at first they was being real nonchalant. I wanted to tell y'all that in person. They was being like, they was like, oh no, well, we'll see if we're related, then we'll tell you. I'm like, oh, well, y'all can't tell me now.
It was not, I don't know, I just felt like I didn't wanna ruin your like—
Perspective on him.
Perspective on him. I'm not even, I don't, like I didn't wanna ruin your perspective. I didn't want you to feel like, oh, like she feel like that's her dad, so like, you know?
And I would've been like, that's it.
I just wanted you to, yeah, I just wanted you to see for yourself. I wanted you to see for yourself and yeah, I just, I don't know.
But so she called me and she asked me, she was like, you gotta tell me. Yes, 'cause I was like, I really wanted to know.
I was like, come on. I was like, I feel like it shouldn't, I know it could have been worse, but then I'm just like, all right, just tell me. I'm willing to accept anything at this point. I'm at the point now where I'm like, just give it all to me. Just tell me everything. I got this far, tell me everything.
How did you feel when you found out that he's incarcerated?
I was hurt at first because I was just like, dang. I was like incarcerated. I was like, wow, so how would I be able to build a relationship with him by him being incarcerated? And then they was just like, you know what? Fuck it, let's go.
Okay. We'll try to build with you.
What were you told about your father as a child?
I was basically, my mom, she doesn't really want to talk about him at all. She's on some like, no, that's it.
Yeah.
It's nothing else for us to talk about with him. Let's just leave it as is.
Yeah, okay.
So I was like, no, I was like, I don't wanna leave it as is. I'm gonna find out.
It's always so crazy to me as parents when they're like, no, you know, like I get they go through their own stuff and they have their own trauma. Yes. So I understand that sometimes it's hard, but like I just think as a parent you deserve your answers. You deserve as much information as you can get.
Yes, and I feel like it was selfish that she didn't even wanna tell me.
You know?
So I had to go look on my own and that's why I felt like I should've just, you know, I took it into my own hands. I was like, girl, I got you.
Yeah, yes, come on.
And she made sure everything was on point. I'm talking about everything.
I was like, girl, you got this.
I've been hitting them for weeks, like, y'all got your outfits? Y'all got what y'all wearing?
And then we're here.
3 weeks.
Literally. Right, and it's only been like, what, 20 days probably since we got ourselves.
So it's been 20 days since y'all got contacted.
Yes, since we known each other.
I literally contacted you guys like—
Since we met each other, everything.
They told me the news and I contacted you guys.
The same, no, within—
Like 20 minutes later.
Appreciate it.
It was so real though.
I was just like, somebody wrote me, they like, hey, this is from, I'm like, wow, she didn't play no games. She don't play. Wow, she's so interested.
She texted me like, girl, have you touched me yet?
Like, more than straight. She's really interested and I appreciate that.
Thank you so much.
Do you have other siblings?
Yes, I have brothers and sisters on my mom's side, but you know, it's like we're not as close. That was another reason why I said I wanted to find my father, my dad's side, because I always felt like I was an outsider of them. So I was like, you know what, maybe if I had other brothers and sisters on my dad's side, maybe it's a better connection over here than it will be over there.
Yeah.
Well, I'm praying that this could be siblings 'cause the connection is good so far. The connection is good.
I swear if we're not, then I don't know what it is.
Oh my gosh.
Yeah.
We gotta be something.
Yeah.
Something because—
Hopefully.
I look just like you.
I can't even see it. Yeah, it's my twin.
Who raised you?
Mom, well actually my aunt raised me. My mom, you know, she had me at 13 years old. So for her to have me at 13, it was basically like I was raised with her.
Baby raising a baby.
Baby raising a baby, basically, yes. So, but my aunt, she raised me and mentored me.
Thank you, I appreciate that.
So if you do find out that you're sisters, what does the future look like for you all?
My future with them, I would hope I can get a good relationship with you guys, a bond with you, you know?
Y'all all in New York though, right?
No.
Oh, you're not? Yeah, I'm in New York.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, but upstate New York. Upstate New York, okay.
So we're like 3 hours away.
You in around New York?
Yeah, I'm around New York, so.
Listen, Promise's mother Latoya is here in the audience. How you doing, Latoya? Welcome to the show.
You look great.
I'm good.
You look great.
Okay.
I love when people come here dressed, okay?
I live.
I'm on this deck.
Yeah, she is that lady.
How did your daughters react when they heard about Antoinette?
Promise her first response is, "We're going to Karamo." Instantly.
I mean, honestly, I was surprised by her reception. She was really open to meeting her and helping her find her truth. I couldn't be happier, to be honest. I'm excited for all of you guys. I'm almost positive that you're related.
Look at you.
You have the same face.
Yeah. How long were you with Promise's father?
I would say 10+ years.
10+ years, okay. And did you know at all about these other kids?
Absolutely not.
Honestly, this is the first I've heard of it. So even the kids mentioning that he was aware of her name, it's the first I've heard of. A potential daughter, especially of this age.
Yeah.
Were you surprised to hear that he may have another child, especially at this age? Yeah.
Shocked. Definitely, because that would've meant that he was a teenager himself.
Yeah, yeah, makes sense. And for y'all to be together 10 years, you would assume like I would've heard a little rumbling of something.
Definitely a family secret or something like that.
Yeah, something you hear, a little something.
Thanksgiving meal, you know?
Yeah. But nothing. Promise is your daughter, but you also helped raise Asada. Yeah.
Yeah.
Thank you for being here, 'cause you give some perspective on the fact that you did not know and the fact that you're shocked as well. It also lets us know like this was some secret that like, wow, you know what I mean? But I appreciate you being here. But I think it is time to solve this 35-year-old DNA mystery.
Oh my God.
Antoinette, are you ready?
Oh my God.
Are you ready for Karamo?
Are you ready? Oh, come with me. Come with me. Antoinette, in this envelope is your truth. The truth of who you are as a woman. It's the truth of where you come from. You have asked questions to your own mother. You felt disconnected from your mother's side of the family. You have been searching for people to connect with for your own identity. And in this envelope, It will tell you if you're related to these beautiful women. This is your truth to open, not mine. Good luck.
I'm nervous.
Oh, it's okay.
I'm sorry, I'm nervous.
Okay.
Okay, I'm ready. Antoinette, Promise, and Asada are your biological sisters.
I'm so happy. I'm so happy for you. Here you go, love.
There you go.
I knew it.
I just knew it. I just knew it.
How do you feel right now?
I'm happy. Oh my God. I'm just so excited that I finally have closure into a lot of things that I feel like bothered me.
And you know, even though our dad is incarcerated, I still feel like we can have a connection.
Yeah. But this is what I was waiting for.
Thank you so much.
You're so welcome. And I'm so glad that you have found this relationship. And what I love also is this relationship has been organic and healthy from the beginning. Yes. And what I love is that they're already open and willing to give you support, to be there for you. They've already started protecting you. This is the sister bond that I'm sure you've been waiting for. Yes. And I believe wholeheartedly that this is only gonna keep growing and getting better.
There was no denying that though.
Oh yeah.
At all.
Yeah, I don't think so. I've seen faces that look alike. That's why I was nervous. I was like, please let this be.
But I'm so excited. How do you two feel to know that this is your sister?
I'm happy. I'm relieved because just speaking on the phone with her, I'm like, this gotta be my sister.
Yeah, and that too. The way she talked, I'm like— I felt like I was getting too close to her and I was trying to like, you know, like—
Back up a little bit.
Yeah, I'm trying to like—
I don't wanna get attached to this girl. But then again, I was like, no, I know you're my sister. So we could talk about— Whatever you want. I didn't care.
You mad?
I'm sorry.
I'm so excited for y'all. Thank you. Thank you so much for calling me, okay? I appreciate that.
I didn't know you were getting here.
Okay, call me anytime. Listen, y'all are amazing.
Thank you.
Thank you so much for trusting me with the story. Best of luck to you.
Thank you. Promise said she would take care of this. Promise made and promise kept.
