Did My Best Friend Steal My Designer Bag? | KARAMO

In this episode of KARAMO, host Karamo mediates a heated confrontation between Toni and her former best friend Shanila over a missing designer Gucci bag. Toni claims the bag (and its wallet) vanished after a night of smoking together, alleging Shanila stole it and has a pattern of taking her belongings since 2020. She recounts a timeline of their friendship starting in 2006, detailing previous incidents of missing items and rumors Shanila allegedly spread about Toni. Shanila denies the theft, asserts she never entered Toni’s house, and claims the bag was simply misplaced. The two exchange accusations about past physical fights, rumors, and betrayals. Karamo introduces a lie‑detector test; Shanila’s answers are judged as deceptive, leading to further dispute over the test’s validity. The host ultimately declares the relationship toxic, advises both parties to part ways, and frames the friendship as a seasonal bond that has run its course. The episode ends with both expressing lingering affection despite the split.

So my guest Toni says her designer bag was stolen and she demanded her former best friend take a lie detector test. Today, we're gonna find out the truth. So everyone, please welcome Toni to the show so we can hear her side of the story. Hi Toni. How are you doing? I'm good, how are you? Can I have a hug? Nice to meet you, love. She gave me one of them pretty girl hugs. She said, I got it, I got it. So when did you notice your designer bag was missing?
So me and Shanila, we were chilling at my house and we was watching, it was like one of them really big fights. You know how they be having them like every year or something like that?
Uh-huh, boxing fights?
Mm-hmm. And I kept leaving in and out the room. When I came back in, I didn't notice anything. She just started saying that, oh, she didn't wanna chill no more. Mind you, we was smoking. She ends up saying she don't feel good, she don't wanna smoke no more, and it was so outta nowhere 'cause everything was just good, we just was watching the fight.
Everything was great.
I think we had some snacks, everything was good. So she leaves, I didn't think nothing of it that night 'cause I didn't really care. But the next day, we on the phone and she invites me to go get breakfast, so I'm like, yeah, let me just get dressed. While I'm getting dressed, I can't find my bag anywhere. Mind you, I know my bag was in here because I had just put it up with my shoes.
So now you like, what the hell's going on? You took my bag?
No, I didn't accuse her right away.
Okay.
So—
Good, yeah, get it right. She said okay.
Yeah, so I text her and I'm like, hey, did you see my bag? So she's like, no. I end up, I'm not able to find it. I end up going to her house to like try and see like what I can do to get my bag back. But I end up getting into an argument with her brother. So her brother text her because she was at work at the time and He must have told her that I came there looking for my bag or something because she text me like, oh, why am I at her house? She know I'm only over there because I think she took my bag. So I'm like, okay, well, did you, like, since we just coming out like that, did you take my bag? So she just starts coming out saying a whole bunch of stuff.
That's a lie.
When I tell you, I feel like I just heard her say so.
You did, 'cause you back there saying so. Let me ask you this. How long have y'all been friends? How long have y'all been friends?
It's not a lie.
It is.
How long have y'all been friends? 'Cause she got this saying, "You lying." So how long y'all been friends? Okay, we can all hear it. Everybody at home, y'all can hear it. She backstage talking about, "You a lie, you a lie." She lied right off the top. So how long have y'all been friends?
Since 2006.
2006. So y'all are, well, you're in your 20s. How old are you? I'm 20. 20 and she 21?
Exactly.
So what item disappeared before the designer bag?
It was like my first ever designer bag that I got. It came with like a wallet inside. It was like a purse with a wallet inside. Me and her was chilling, we never got out the car, we was literally in the car smoking. Neither one of us never got out the car. She ended up getting dropped off. When she got dropped off, the wallet part was missing.
What do you think she did with your bag?
I think she sold it or I think that she be like wearing it on the low. Like she might have a date or something. I be wearing it on the low so the illusion of her. And she just took my bag.
Got it. Have you gotten into physical fights before?
So this was one fight and this is something else that I wanna clear up right now. She's going around saying that she beat me up. First of all, I fucked her up. And that's what I wanna say because that's not the—
How old were y'all when y'all fought?
This was like last year, maybe 2 years ago, 2023. 2023. So I was like 18, 19. But basically we was leaving one of my appointments and it was like far.
It was.
So she started, I don't know why she still saying stuff. Sorry, I can't, I'm trying to think and hear her freaking goofy sound like that.
Oh, no, it's fine. So y'all fought, y'all fought, y'all physically fought?
No, so I'm driving my car and this is how much of a hater she is. She start hitting me while I'm driving. What type of hating ass bitch are you?
So she hits you while you're driving? While I'm driving. And then you had to fight, okay.
So I put the car in park and I turned to the side and I start kicking that bitch.
Okay. So what were the rumors you spread about, she spread about you?
That she beat me up, which we already clarified that was a lie. No detector needed. So the next thing was that every time I'm talking to somebody, he or she comes snatching them from me. In what world? Are you asleep? 'Cause you dreaming.
We have a timeline that I wanna look at really quick. My producers created a timeline. Let me see this timeline, y'all.
Oh yeah, the timeline.
Yeah, what's the timeline? Okay, 26 says best friend, sister relationship. I don't know, listen. So I'm gonna go out. Yeah, go on.
Because So I'm gonna break the timeline down for y'all. So in 2016, we met, we became cool. I welcomed her into my home like family. Like we were together every single day. I was treating her like my sister. Everywhere, every time we went somewhere, she was paid for by me or my family. 2023, items begin to go missing. Items begin to go missing before that. My family member's phone went missing in 2020, 2021. And then my purse, it was around $2,023. And then my Gucci bag, which is the one that we're here for today. She starts spreading rumors about me, slandering my name.
[Speaker] Got it, okay then. All right, it's time to hear Shanala's side of the story. So everyone please welcome Shanala to the show.
[APPLAUSE] [Speaker] First of all, I never, first of all, you broke into my house. You didn't just come to my house looking for a purse. You came in through the back door while the door while my family was home. That's for one. For two, I never spread rumors about you. I don't even talk to nobody you talk to or about you. Anything I've said about you was never a rumor. It was about the situation we were going through about you accusing me of stealing your bag. That's the only thing I spread. That's facts. For three, me saying I took your shit, when have I ever fucked with anybody you fucked? Be for real. I don't even understand where that's coming from.
Why you laughing?
Oh, because it was just funny. Like, I really cannot believe we up here. We supposed to be Friends, like this is crazy to me, but it's not funny.
So you saying that she broke into your house?
She did. Literally, I was at work. I'm getting text messages saying, oh, is Toni in my house? She hiding in your closet saying that she came here looking for a bag.
Got it.
What?
It's not funny.
We have a text that was sent to you that day. Can I see the text? She was in your room, yo. I don't trust her. Me either. That's weird. Latrell said she, was trying to hide in the closet, then claim she left the bag here. Keep her out my house. I don't trust that girl at all. You was hiding in closets?
I wasn't hiding in no closet.
You wasn't?
Okay.
Did you steal her designer bag?
No.
No.
And I feel like she knows that.
So what did you think really happened to the bag?
What happened was she was cleaning her room and she misplaced it and she probably has it like somewhere around her house. I feel like she found the bag by now.
I moved, misplaced my shit, I went and re-put my bag.
Okay, after you found your bag after.
I'm not saying anything.
Well, I think it's time to get to this lie detector.
Yes, sir.
And I think it's time to unlock the truth. All right. In this envelope is the truth that you've been waiting for. Here we go. Our lie detector examiner asked Shaneyla, "Do you absolutely know who stole the bag?" No. Shaneyla said she does not.
Mm-hmm.
Shanila is not telling the truth.
That's a lie. I swear to God on everything, that's a lie. I don't know who took your bag. Like, this is—
Our lie detector examiner asked Shanila, did you steal the bag from Tony?
This must be for like—
Shanila said she did not.
And it's the truth.
Shanila is not telling the truth. That's a lie. All right, that's a lie. I know what's up. But can I just say one thing? Tony, word to my dead brother, I didn't take that bag. Word to everything I love about you, I didn't take that bag.
I'm not mad about the bag.
I didn't take the bag.
I'm not mad about you spreading rumors about me.
I didn't spread rumors about you.
I'm not mad at you, I'm not hurt, I just wanted to know if you were genuinely my friend.
I really don't care about the bag. And I am, and I didn't take that bag.
I don't even want the bag. $1,800 is not even a lot of money. It's not worth a friendship. Okay. So I really don't care about the bag.
It was clearly worth a friendship if this is what separated us from being friends. No, I'm saying you stealing the bag was not worth a friendship. Word to my dead— Bro, you know what? You got it right. The results are lying. The results are lying. And at the end of the day, listen.
Let me tell you what you did.
I didn't. I don't even look up lie detector tests. And this is actually crazy because you went home, you went on TikTok, you looked up how to pass a lie detector test.
And then you cheated because you failed.
So this is the thing. So I'm going to ask you this. So if these results would have come back and said you didn't steal it.
I didn't though.
Hold on.
No, because I'm not— I'm asking you this. Like what?
If the results would have come back and said you didn't steal it, Would this detector test be wrong?
No, I don't know.
Because at this point it's like, we already had to take a test 3 times. Hold on, no, because either our tests are broken—
Because he's saying I was coughing and I was—
Either our tests are broken or they're not.
He's saying that the results weren't even valid because I coughed and I laughed. Like, that doesn't make sense.
So I'm asking you, if this would've proved your innocence, would our tests have been broken?
No, because then it would've been the truth.
She lied like that. I witnessed her. I was her friend for almost 10 years or 10 years, whatever the case was.
Listen, I'm gonna tell you what I know to be true is that you got your answers. What I know to be true is that you got your answers and this has been the most toxic, most toxic relationship. I'm very happy that the two of you are not friends anymore. And I hope you stick to this. I hope both of y'all stick to this. I think you're better apart. I think the love you had as young women was just that. You were meant to be in each other's lives as young girls as you're growing, but I don't think you're meant to be in each other's lives as you become full-blown women. Y'all are not meant to be. When you in your 30s, 40s, and 50s, y'all not supposed to know each other. And that's just what it is. Sometimes we gotta know that some relationships are from a season and not for a long time. And this is one of those season relationships. This is for a season. Listen, so you say your goodbye, you say your goodbye, and that's it.
I still love you.
I always got love for you. I'm not leaving until you're back.
Well, listen, y'all, make sure to come back next time, friends, so we can keep talking and growing. I love y'all.
