Did My Dad Get My Classmate Pregnant? | KARAMO

In this episode of Karamo’s talk show, Krista recounts a 40‑year‑old family mystery: when she was 21, a pregnant woman named Diane repeatedly knocked on her father’s door, and Krista’s father denied having any other children. Decades later, Krista’s cousin’s daughter (Shayla) discovered through online research that Diane was her mother, leading her to contact Sheena, who believes she is the baby Diane gave birth to. Sheena’s 75‑year‑old father (the same man Krista’s father) has never been told about this possible second child. Sheena’s daughter’s research connected the two women, and Karamo brings them together on‑air. The sisters meet, notice a striking physical resemblance, and open an envelope that confirms they share the same father. They discuss the emotional impact, the desire to support each other, and the dilemma of whether to tell their father, ultimately deciding to keep the secret to protect him. The episode blends personal testimony, genealogical sleuthing, and a live reveal, highlighting themes of hidden parentage, family bonds, and the ethics of disclosure.
Chapters
My DNA mystery started when I was 21 years old. It was a young lady coming to the door, and she would knock on the door, but she would never come in. And she would always ask for my father, and then we would call my father to the door, and he would sometimes go to the door, sometimes he didn't. And we're like, what is going on? And then one day she came and she knocked on the door, and this time she had a belly. So we're shocked. We're like, "Wait a minute, what's going on? Dad, you know, what's going on?" And he claimed, he goes, "Oh, nothing. She just a friend." And the funny part is, is that I realized that when I saw her, I went to school with her. Her name is Diane. As time moved on, we see her in the truck one time with my father. And she has this full-blown belly, look like she ready to bust at any moment at this point. I'm like, "Daddy." "Is that your baby?" And he was like, "No, no, no." So moving forward, after the baby was born, the little girl came to the door with her mom. They rung the doorbell and knocked at the side door. We was like, "Oh, wait a minute. She better not have my daddy eyes," right? 'Cause my father had the beautiful eyes. And I just asked my dad, I was like, "Dad, is that your daughter?" My father was very adamant until the day he died that he didn't have any other children. Other children. This is a family mystery, and it's been going on for like 40 years. We had a cousin's group. All of a sudden, a Shayla showed up, and we was all trying to figure out, who is Shayla? How is she related? And nobody seemed to know. She said her mother name was Sheena. So I started asking more questions, and I said, well, what's your grandmother's name, your grandfather's name? And she said, well, my grandmother's name on my mother's side, her name is Diane. And I was like, Diane, how could this be? It's impossible. And I was thinking to myself, oh my goodness, could she be the baby that showed up 40 years ago at the side door with her mother Diane?
Wow, listen, we'll talk to Krista shortly, but first let's meet her potential sister Sheena. So everyone, please welcome Sheena to the show. How are you?
I'm great. Nice to meet you, Karamo.
Nice to meet you, Sheena. So tell me from your perspective, why are you here?
I'm here 'cause I believe that the baby that Krista is talking about is me.
You do believe that?
Yes. Okay.
So what was your mother's name?
Diane.
It was Diane. Yeah. Okay then. And how did you come to get this answer?
Yeah, my daughter, she was doing a lot of research online. When she was doing research online, we finally got connected, me and Krista.
Yes. Okay then. And Sheena, who raised you?
My mom and my dad.
Your mom and dad?
Yeah.
So you have lived your entire life thinking you know who your father is and your mother is, not even questioning anything?
No.
Did your mother or father ever tell you about any of this?
No.
None of this, okay. And is your father still alive?
Yes.
Your father's still alive. And how old is he now?
He's 75.
75 years old, okay then. Yeah. Got it. And have you talked to your father about this? Since you were contacted?
No.
No, you haven't?
Have not.
Wow. When did you all find out all this?
Like about 5 months ago, like around the time of Father's Day.
So Father's Day, so this is all recent for you?
Yes, so it's like I'm all like mixed all up right now.
Yeah, because for 40 years you have lived knowing that this person's your mother, this is your father, not a question, not a thought?
Nope.
And then 5 months ago, your daughter does some type of research that leads you to find that you might actually have a new sister?
Hmm, yes.
Wow.
That's crazy.
How did you feel about this potential secret?
I felt very mixed emotion. I was shocked that that was actually, that it actually happened.
Yeah.
Yeah. Krista, like I didn't never expect that I would have an older sibling, you know? I only knew about the siblings that I had in my family that who I grew up with. But I never thought about anything else besides that.
Of course. Is your mother still alive?
No.
Your mother's—
No, she's deceased.
Okay then. And were you able to talk to her about this at all?
No. She never ever mentioned anything about my dad.
Got it, got it.
My real dad.
Got it. Potential real dad.
Potential real dad because, yeah.
Yeah. And how long ago did she pass?
8 years ago. Was that about 8 years ago?
8 years ago. That she passed, okay. So at 8 years ago, you didn't even have this information to even say, "Hey mom, could this possibly be true?" Right. Which makes more sense why you haven't brought it up to your father.
Yes.
What did you think when Krista first contacted you?
It was very emotional. It was shock. It was unbelievable.
Yeah.
Yes.
Yeah, I can only imagine. Did you have a good relationship with your dad growing up?
Yes, I did. I had a good relationship.
I figured so because the way that you're protecting him right now from this information, it shows. Yeah. What was growing up for you?
It was, I had a good life when I grew up. On a week, on once a month or two, every two months, I go visit my dad for church with my mom. I did other things with my mom such as like the birthdays and like like just regular life, just regular family life.
Yeah, of course. So your daughter Shayla is the one who connected you with Krista, correct?
Yes.
Uh-huh. And so how did, because she said that she was in a group chat? Yeah. So how did Krista get in the group chat? How, Krista, she worked, she worked some ways. 'Cause how you go from me seeing something online to now I'm in the family group chat?
Right.
Yes. How did she do that?
Krista and Shiloh, they was communicating back and forth. Like, I didn't know anything about the communication at all. But there was time that Shiloh was mentioning to me to do, yeah, this.
Yeah. You can finish.
Yeah, there was many times that Shiloh was mentioning to me about Krista, about like, about we possibly have, like, I possibly have a sister.
Mm-hmm. So why was your daughter doing this research? Was it for a project or?
No, it was actually because in our neighborhood, like there's many different cultures and they wanted to know exactly like what nationality was I. They wanted to know about their culture.
Yes, got it. Yeah. So out of a desire to find out a culture, they find out that they could be a whole nother family.
Yes.
Wow. So what happens if you are Chris's sister? How will you tell your father?
I wouldn't be able to tell him.
Yeah, yeah, 'cause you feel like it would break his heart at this point.
Exactly, yeah.
Yeah. Have you ever met Krista in person?
No, I never met her before.
Wow, so 5 months ago you got all this. Well, I think it's time to meet your potential sister Krista. Are you ready for that?
Yeah, I'm excited.
Well everyone, welcome Krista to the show.
Meet me, right? Nice to meet you. Look at you. Look at you. Oh my goodness.
No DNA necessary, right? Oh, she looks just like me.
Oh my goodness.
Oh my God. Are you kidding me?
Hi, Krista. How are you, beautiful? Oh my God. How are you?
I'm good. Oh my goodness.
Oh my gosh. So you two see the family resemblance?
Don't you?
Oh my God.
You got your nose like mine too.
Oh my gosh.
Oh my God. Do y'all see the family resemblance? Yeah. Okay then. So what's going through your mind right now?
I am flabbergasted right now.
Yeah.
Oh my goodness. This is crazy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Krista, can you tell me about your father?
She is a mini me. Oh my God. Yeah.
Tell me about your father.
Oh, he was a great man.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm a daddy's girl. He always helped people in the community, always doing things. That's why when he— no. Always said he was helping Diane and stuff. I was like, oh, OK. She's just another person that he's trying to help out.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You're like, fine.
Do your thing.
Do your thing.
Do your thing, you know?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. And you want to find out if your father went to this grave with this secret, I was told.
You know, when I think about it, I don't really think he per se knew.
Okay, you do think that?
I really, in my heart of hearts, I do not believe he knew because there's no way he would've not allowed us to have a relationship.
Yeah. Period.
'Cause he know how I am about family.
Yeah. So you feel like he would've made sure.
He would've said something.
Okay. Did your mother ever know about Diane? No. No, your mother did not know about Diane?
Nope.
Okay then. And do you think that Sheena is that baby that came to the side of the door?
Ta-da! No, I really think so, absolutely.
Wow. Don't y'all?
So why is finding out this truth important to you?
For me, I'm a very family-oriented person. And if you're family, you need to, you know, I mean, like, I'm just saying, there's so many ways she might need some help. She might need a shoulder to cry on. She might need somebody to talk to. Me and my sister, we're that person. We're those type of people. You know what I'm saying? If she, whatever she decide, we got you, girl. What you need? You know? You need to talk? You got boy problems? No.
All right. You know, but yeah.
He's good.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
You said it felt good to hear that?
Yeah.
Yeah. Why does that make you feel warm?
Because someone older, like someone who can teach me in my life, like, 'cause I'm going through different stages in my life and this, And I'm pretty sure that you went through the stages of your life and I can learn about those things, like what's coming next.
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
The big sister, okay. Have you ever looked for that baby that came through before?
You know what, the way that happened was back in 2022 maybe, my father had a very close member that passed away, right? And then, you know, when he passed away, we had kids coming out the womb. It's like, wait a minute, what's going on?
Yeah.
So I said, Dad, do you have any more kids out there? You know what I'm saying? Just let me know now. I wanna know. You know what I'm saying? You know how I am about family. And he was like, I got 3 kids, Robin, Krista, and [MASKED], and that's it. That's why I believe, 'cause I can't imagine him just saying—
Yeah, 'cause at that point he would've been honest. He'd have been like, let me just tell you, there could be a point. Okay then. Sheena, did you ever feel disconnected from your family at all?
No, I was real connected to my family, yes.
You got it, good job. Okay, perfect. Well, this has been—
She should've been more connected with us.
You said what now? Say it again.
She'd have been more connected with us.
Okay. This has been 40 years. Are you ready for the truth?
Yes, I'm ready for the truth, yes.
Krista, I know you ready for the truth, right? Tina, come with me.
Oh my goodness.
I want you to stand right here for me. So Sheena, as of 5 months ago, you thought you knew who your mother and father was. You had no questions. And then by a chance of your daughter doing research, you found out that you could potentially have an entirely new family. And then hearing from your potential sister Krista, she had stories of this potential baby that was coming around when she was younger. Now this has all led to this moment where you could potentially You have a brand new family. And in that envelope is that truth.
Yeah.
This is your truth to open, not mine. So good luck.
Take your time. Don't be nervous.
Okay.
Oh my goodness.
All right. Should I open it?
Yeah. Anytime you want.
Okay. Oh my gosh. Sheena, Chrissy, and Shabazz.
Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God.
I get to have my little sister. Oh my gosh.
Wow.
I can't wait to see Robin. Huh? I can't wait to see Robin.
I know. You got to come to Cleveland real soon.
Yeah. OK. OK.
This is amazing. Here, come take a seat for me. Oh my gosh. Come take a seat for me. How do you feel right now?
I feel like it's real.
Yeah. Oh, it's real real.
Yeah, yeah.
Wow.
We had the same flip. Wow.
Wow.
So it's interesting, you as a young girl clocked it. You said that something's going on there. Oh yeah. And you never let it go, which I think is interesting.
Right.
Oh, my ears hurt.
Wow.
Sheena, now that you know for sure, are you having second thoughts? Have you had any thoughts about potentially telling your father?
No. No, I'm not. No, I'm not. No, I'm not. No.
You said no. Yeah. So you believe she shouldn't tell either?
Absolutely not.
No, no, no. Yes.
He like, what? You said I heard out there 70 what?
75.
And she's his only child.
Yeah, I'm his only child.
So why do that to him at this point?
Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
I'm gonna be very honest with you. That's the advice I would give. At this point, unless it's weighing on your heart you feel like you wanna be honest with him. At this point, he has loved you his entire life. There's nothing to gain from this new information. But also as well, you know that your relationship will stay strong and as you're building this new relationship. So I'm actually not opposed to that. Like, you know what I mean?
Listen to your big sister.
Okay, listen to your big sister.
Yes.
So you don't have any other siblings on the other side? 'Cause you're his only child.
I'm the only child on my father's side.
Yes.
But my mom, I'm not.
Okay, got it, got it, got it. Well, you got a new big sister.
Yeah.
Okay. Well, now you got a big sister. Two. Two big sisters. I love that.
Yeah.
That's amazing.
I'm so happy for you that you have your answers. I'm so happy that you have a supportive big sister who's gonna be there for you, love you. Like you said before, it's nice for you to know that there's someone there who can be there for you, who can support you, who can love you and give you guidance.
Yes.
I wish you both the best of luck and thank you for sharing your story. Sharing your story with me.
Thank you.
You're welcome. You're welcome. All right, friends, stay with us. We'll be right back with more.
