DNA: Are You My Brother & Sister? | KARAMO

In this episode of KARAMO, host Karamo brings together three people—Victoria, Queasha, and Vincent Price—who have connected through Facebook and suspect they share a common father. Victoria, who grew up with limited information about her father, used 23andMe and Ancestry without success, then turned to a Facebook search that led her to Vincent. Vincent introduced them to Queasha, who might be a sister. The group shares personal histories, emotions, and hopes before undergoing a live DNA test to determine biological sibling relationships. The test reveals that Victoria is not biologically related to Vincent or Queasha, prompting a range of emotional responses: sadness, disappointment, but also affirmation of chosen family bonds. Throughout, Karamo guides the conversation, emphasizes the importance of belonging, and encourages continued search for their father while highlighting that family can be chosen beyond blood ties. The episode blends personal storytelling, the drama of DNA testing, and reflections on identity, belonging, and resilience.

Listen, today we are solving mysteries that are over 20 years old. So let's do it. You know, your family lineage and have the ability to trace your ancestry is a privilege for many of us that we take for granted. Whether we like our relatives or not, there's a sense of belonging that tells a story of who we are. And in many ways it forms our identity. And that feeling of belonging is something my next guest Victoria has desired her entire life. Her entire life. See, 3 weeks ago, she found 2 people she believes are her long-lost brother and sister on Facebook. They all have different mothers, but Victoria says there is no doubt in her mind that she shares the same father. But not all of the siblings are convinced that they are family. They're all here to find out if a paternity test can prove that they are siblings. All right, so everyone, so let's welcome our first guest to the show, Victoria.
Hi, how are you?
I'm really good, how you doing? Let me give you a hug. Good to see you, take a seat.
All right.
Okay, so Victoria, tell me, how did you find your siblings on Facebook?
Okay, so I did the 23andMe, I did the Ancestry, nothing came up.
Okay.
So then my friend who helped somebody else find their father at work, she was like, all I got is a name, Vincent Price. So we hit everybody on Facebook, That was Vincent Price. So Vincent hit me back and said, "I think you're my sister." Oh wow, okay. So we just start giving all the information and everything lined up.
Got it. So what did you know about your father from growing up?
That he was in the military, black, green eyes, that's it.
And how did it make you feel knowing that that's all the information you got?
Horrible because my brothers, they have different, say a different dad and their dad is around. Got it. And then Christmas, all that. But my grandpa raised me.
Yeah.
So, but when he died, it just made me go further to find my family.
Okay. And what was it about your grandfather's death that like sort of propelled you to wanna meet your father?
Because I felt like he was a great father, stepped up. Yeah. Did everything for me and my brother.
Your grandmother's father?
Yeah, my mother's father, yes. Stepped up and did everything and just been a great father. And he died of cancer and I'm a nurse, so I took care of him until he died. I just wanna find my family. It's just me, my boyfriend, and my daughter.
So when you found Vincent on Facebook, what happened? I know you said that you talked to him quickly and said, hey.
So I hit like 17 Vincents.
Okay, yeah.
But he was the only one that replied back and he just told me like, yeah, my name's Vincent Price. And I showed him my birth certificate.
Oh, this is the Facebook message?
Yeah.
Hey, I'm looking for my father. All I have is his name Vincent, your middle name, no bday, my mom's name is, no, while I'm a Vincent, I don't think I'm your guy. I'm 42 from DC. "Your mother's name is not familiar, but I hope to find who you're looking for." Well, listen, that's such a great response.
Right, a great response.
And to have somebody to like be open to saying at least like, "Hey, I wanna support you on this journey." Yes. So how did you feel when you connected with Vincent and you realized that he could potentially be your brother?
So it just felt good. He brought me in and you see one of our messages, he was like, "Welcome to the family, sis." Yeah. And I feel like we text—
'Cause do you have any other siblings?
Yeah, I have 2 brothers.
2 brothers.
But I don't talk to them.
Yeah, you don't talk to them.
Yeah, I cut them off.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Outta there.
Okay, got it. So it's really just you, your mother.
Yeah, I talk to my mom every now and then.
Got it, got it, got it.
'Cause she's real close with my daughter, so.
Okay, understandable. So part of this is also, and the reason I'm asking these questions because this is important for you because it seems like the family you were raised with—
Is gone.
You don't have a connection with.
Nope.
And so you're looking for maybe another side that could understand you, that you could feel connected to.
My grandma and grandpa was family, they're dead. So now I need, I want my family to be around. I wanna know that side, so.
So when you found Vincent, you also found out that you might have a sister.
Tell me about that. Yes, he told me that we might have a sister named Que. So he was like, let me connect with her. That took about 2 days and we all connected on the phone and we reached out to your show.
Yeah, so what was your mom's reaction when you told her that you had siblings? Or potentially had siblings?
All of our moms didn't say nothing.
Yeah.
If you heard that, all of our moms didn't say anything. So I don't know what the issue was, but.
Are you ready to meet the woman who you believe is your sister?
Yeah.
All right everyone, so please help me welcome Queeacha to the stage. How you doing? Nice to meet you. Please take a seat. You look great. So first of all, hold on, is this your first time meeting in person?
Yes.
Wow. This is amazing. 'Cause you all have only connected through Facebook, social media. Okay. So what went through your mind when Vincent told you that you also might have a sister?
Ooh, I was nervous, I was anxious, I was happy. I was going through so many emotions because I waited for this moment for so long. It was just an overwhelming feeling.
Not only is this about siblings, it's also about connection with family. So I know that when you found out, that you may potentially have a sister, you were excited, but there was also a little bit of doubt, which I can understand. Yes. Yeah.
But it shouldn't be no doubt.
Yeah. So.
Because we came, we, just the connection that all three of us got together. But I'm gonna be sad if we ain't, but the connection, I don't wanna lose that if we ain't.
Yeah. I understand that. I understand that. But it's just for me, it's just like, I just don't wanna get my hopes up so much and then be crushed once I get the results. And then, you know, we talked before, you know, stating that, you know, that I had questions. You know, I did, I had questions because she lives in a different state. I know my father, he actually was in the military. So, you know, it's a possibility. And I really didn't wanna build a bond with someone that wasn't my sister.
That if you don't know, it could be your sister.
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
So then why were you able to build a bond so quickly with Vincent? Because Vincent, you're not sure either. 'Cause you haven't done a DNA test with Vincent?
No. With him, we was able to share stories, we was able to share information, pictures. You know, even with one of the pictures that he has, it's with him and his mom. I had a picture of, you know, him being by himself and stuff like that.
Oh, so you had some like family photos and stories that was told?
Yes, she's the one that got everything.
Yeah, I have a lot of information. So that's like just the only thing. And you know, I just was, when I found out that she can possibly be my sister, I was looking for answers and looking for, you know, for her to give me some type of input, but she didn't have that. And I'm not faulting her for it.
All I got is a birth certificate with his name.
Do you think the three of you look alike?
Everybody said we got strong features together. The eyes? I don't know.
I mean, everybody else says so, but I don't.
You don't see it?
Yeah, I don't see it.
I'm just mad that she accepted Vincent not as much as you accepted me. But like you said, I don't have as much background as y'all do. That's why I'm yearning for that.
You told my producer that you think that you saw Victoria when you were a little girl.
Yeah, so you didn't tell me that. I used to go over my uncle house a lot. It was one time where I actually thought I'd seen my sister. I just knew that she was dark-skinned. I did tell you that.
Did you?
Yeah, I did. Oh, I remember that. I did.
You really think that little girl was your sister?
Yeah, I thought that she was my sister. I said the only thing that—
'Cause I am.
Yeah.
Period. She's sure. Look, she's sure. She's sure. 'Cause I am.
So with that being said, I came across a lady and her kids, and the girl was dark-skinned. And my mom was like, that's your sister right there. But I couldn't really talk to her because her mother was really like, mm, no, I don't want— You know, my kid.
But do you honestly think that little girl was Victoria?
I don't know.
Everyone, please help me welcome Vincent to the show. Hey.
Uh-uh-uh.
How are you doing, Vincent?
How you doing?
So is this your first time seeing your sisters or potential sisters?
This is my first time seeing Victoria. Yeah. I have a relationship with Queasha from a couple years now.
Got it. Okay, great, great, great. So how did you feel when Queasha reached out and said that she's your sister? And then how did you feel when Victoria reached out?
I, with Queasha, I had a million things running through my mind. Obviously, you know, it's always in the back of your mind, but when you're raised not knowing, after a while you just kind of chalk it up. And that's what I did for the longest. And when Kyasha did reach out, I was open to it because if, Growing up, it felt like there's a whole piece of you.
Did you believe immediately that she was your sister?
I wanted to.
That means, so part of you had doubts?
Yeah, I was already opening myself up to the possibility. When I seen her picture, I was like, "Now I'm sure." Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was a wrap for me.
And was it the same when you saw Victoria's photo?
All right, so Puyasha was the one that told me a lot of the information, like much like Victoria. When I was growing up, every time I would try to ask, I didn't get anything.
Did you have a relationship with your father? No. You didn't either. Okay.
That hurt because I grew up under the assumption that like he abandoned me.
Yeah.
You know, it took a while to deal with those issues. In that time, I was in a different headspace. When Victoria came around, much, much different headspace. I've been older, you know, I've matured a lot.
Now you've had time to heal with everything. You've had time to work through these issues. When you were a younger man, did you feel as if like, maybe I had siblings? Were you curious?
Of course, but you just, you don't know, so you don't want to get your hopes up.
Why would getting your hopes up about having a sibling be such a bad thing?
Because if they're not, I'm gonna be hurt that these are not my brothers and sisters.
Yeah.
Because I didn't build a bond with them. Over the phone, but.
Yeah.
I mean, one thing that I tried to stress once we found out this situation was that Regardless of what happens, family is what you choose. Family is not what you're obligated to have just because you share a bloodline with them. So regardless of what happens today, these are still my sisters. Yeah, it may change.
It would be like you gaining two sisters.
Yes, yes, yes. Would it be amazing? So, um, Queasha.
Let's go.
You can please read out loud for us.
I love you too.
What does it say? What does it say?
Show it, show it. He is my brother.
Yeah. How does it make you feel right now?
It's such a relief 'cause you just always had that what if, that what if, like, oh my God. And just for me building so much time, it was well worth it. It was well worth it.
Yeah.
I love it.
I love it. And listen, you now know you definitely have one sister. You built a bond. How does it make you feel knowing that this is, you at least have that?
It's what God intended. So we'll roll with that.
All right, well Victoria, we have yours as well.
Yes.
Are you ready as well?
Yep.
To find out your truth?
Yep.
All right, here you go.
13 years I've been waiting.
Yeah.
They are not my brother and sister. I'm so sad.
I'm super sorry.
I'm so sad because I really felt like a bond with them.
You do have a bond. You do have a bond.
Yes, like I said, man.
Search continues.
Like I said, I'm super, I'm sorry about that.
I am. We all find out the DNA outcomes together and I was really hoping that you all would be biological. What are your thoughts right now knowing that she's not your sister?
For me, it's just a little emotional because she has so much energy. She's so vibrant. And just to know like she went through so much. We all went through so much.
Yeah.
And I'm sad. I just feel like—
Yeah. Victoria, what do you need right now?
I mean, I've been looking for this for so long. I just, I feel like this is, it might be the end of the road for me. You know, 'cause I didn't wanna build a bond with them and they not, but I feel like I'm still gonna keep in contact with them. We close, you know, 3 weeks close, so.
[APPLAUSE] Will you continue to search for your father?
I don't know, I put a lot of money, a lot of time into this. And I don't know, this kind of hurt my spirit right here, but we'll see.
[Speaker:KARAMO] I want you to know that the beauty in this sort of cloud right now is that you are surrounded by people who love you and who have made a commitment to say that they want to continue to bond with you. And I know right now it may feel like I don't have the strength to like figure out where my father is and get more answers. But I do believe that once you process this, that there will be something within you that will find the strength to be able to continue on and search for your family. Hold on, where you going? I'll tell you where you're going. Right here to subscribe and right here to watch more.
Period.
