I Don’t Want To Share My Dad With A Potential Sister! | KARAMO

In this episode of KARAMO, host Karamo interviews Samantha and Angel, two women who discovered through ancestry DNA testing that the man they each thought was their father may not be their biological parent. Samantha began a genealogy search after her presumed father died, which led her to Angel, who appears to be a potential half‑sister. The conversation explores how each woman learned about the possible sibling connection, their emotional reactions to the loss of their fathers, the dynamics of reaching out to family members (especially a reserved mother), the in‑person meeting where they bonded over their children, and the anticipation of a sibling DNA test performed on the show. Throughout, they discuss the fear of “sharing” a deceased father, the desire for truth, and the need for parental answers. The episode ends with the DNA test still pending, leaving both women hopeful yet uncertain about their true familial relationship.

So how did you find out your father wasn't your biological father?
So I was wanting to dig into my like heritage and do like a genealogy thing.
Yeah.
And then I said, well, let me do the ancestry so I can connect some dots. And then people started popping up that I did not know.
So how did you get in contact with Angel?
That's when I went into that digging.
Okay.
So I did this actually for my birthday. For a year prior, I didn't reach out to anybody. And then when who I thought my father was passed away, then I reached out to them.
Got it. Because then you felt like—
Yeah.
He's gone, I can now reach out.
Yeah, I just didn't wanna break his heart, you know? I wanted him to be secure in knowing that, you know, I was still his baby girl.
Got it.
And I just, you know, I wanted him to pass away in peace.
Okay, got it.
Yeah.
When you spoke to Angel, she sent you a photo of her dad?
Yes. Okay then.
And this is him right here?
Yes.
Okay. Did you show your family the photo?
My mom.
And what happened?
She just kind of looked at me and then she didn't really say much after that.
That's an interesting response because normally if I'm bringing a photo to say, hey, this could be my potential father, I would have them be like, no girl, you're crazy. That's not happening.
She's kind of a secluded type of person.
Yeah.
Like she's not gonna give a big reaction.
But some reaction.
If it's private, She's probably not gonna be telling me.
So if it's really private, she gonna hold it to the chest?
Yeah.
Okay then.
Yeah.
So Angel's potentially your sister who you took the DNA test with today, correct?
Yes.
Okay. Have you ever met Angel in person?
Yes.
You have?
When we got into contact with each other, her brother sent me her Facebook information and I reached out and then she finally reached back out to me and she invited me for Christmas.
Did you feel welcome in her home?
Yes, I did.
Awesome.
I brought one of my daughters with me.
Oh, nice.
She's more of the kid that understands, so I brought her over there.
Yeah.
And she hung out with Angel's daughter and did arts and crafts while me and Angel hung out and talked.
Talked, okay then. So do you believe you're related after that?
I do believe it.
Do you believe you're sisters?
Yeah.
Okay then.
I do.
And do you feel like you look alike?
A little bit.
A little bit?
Yeah, I kind of favor my mama's side.
You favor your mother's side?
Okay then. So you say your daughter looks like her, My, one of my 13-year-olds, she favors Angel, yes.
A lot?
Mm-hmm.
Okay then, got it. So I think it's time to meet Angel and hear what she has to say about all this. So everyone, welcome Angel to the show so we can hear her side of the story.
Mm-hmm.
Hello, nice to meet you. Thank you for being here. Yes, thank you so much.
Hi.
So when did you first speak with Samantha?
December, the beginning of December.
Of this past year?
Yeah, yeah.
Oh wow, so this is all recent, recent.
Very recent.
Yeah, okay then. And do you believe you're related?
I want to believe that. Everything that I'm doing, I'm doing for my dad.
Yeah.
I wanna believe it for her and for my dad and—
Yeah, but you have your doubts?
I'm a huge daddy's girl and I didn't share him with any of my siblings. It's always been my daddy.
Yeah.
My daddy.
Got it.
My daddy.
So then to have somebody pop up and say— My daddy.
Yeah.
It can be triggering because that was your— it challenges your relationship in essence in your mind. So I could understand that. You're getting emotional. What's making you emotional? I'm sorry.
I wasn't doing that.
It's okay.
It's okay.
Just seeing my dad up there.
Got it, okay. So my producer told me your father had passed. When did he pass away?
3 years ago. So for you, because of that relationship and wanting to honor him, that's why you're doing this?
Yeah, he would've never, like, if he knew we had a daughter, she would've been right there. We would've been battling.
You gonna make me cry.
Yeah. That's my daddy. So we would've been battling 'cause she would've been, she would've took the spot as the baby girl, so.
Yeah.
That wouldn't have sat over too well with him. The selfish part of me, I could do this because he's not here.
Yeah.
I probably would've reacted totally, totally different if he was.
Yeah, that makes sense. Tell me about the first time that you met Samantha.
I invited her over. I'm the cooker in the family, so.
Okay.
And I haven't been able to really get the family there since my dad passed, so I was excited to invite her over. But I did kind of just stay in the kitchen.
Yeah.
Just because I didn't really know how to react and I didn't wanna come off as the bully me, 'cause that's the real me.
Yeah.
So I just, I just kind of stayed in the kitchen and then tried to interact with the kids a little bit more.
Yeah.
Kind of left her in there with my little bro and they could just talk.
Yeah. But I think it's valid. I mean, if somebody a couple months ago come outta the blue and say, hey, I'm your sibling, The fact that you're even willing to open them into your home, the fact that you're willing to say, let me try, is a big step. You know what I mean? So I know you say you're the bully, but that's not bully behavior. That says, that says I'm cautious. It says I need to make sure you don't feel rejected while also protecting myself. And so I think it's a smart move. You know? I don't think any of us here will fault you for that because if somebody pops up for you, you're gonna be like, okay, I don't wanna reject you, but. Let's stay over there until we figure stuff out. So makes sense. And I love the fact that you're taking this DNA test because your father couldn't and you knowing that he would have been there for her if he had known she existed. So when you took the test for the show, why were you upset?
They had asked us what this was about and then they had mentioned we're sisters and she was like, well, I know we're sisters. And I was just like, in my head I'm like, Not yet, we don't know.
Oh yeah, yeah, not yet we don't know.
Don't know, but I didn't wanna be mean and I didn't wanna seem cold or whatever, but it just took me back to going back to, am I ready to share my dad? Even though he's not here, it's still me having to share my dad.
Yeah, share the memory. Yeah, of course.
Either way it goes.
So what do you want the DNA truth to be today?
For her and for my dad, I would want that. Again, I don't wanna share my dad.
I just don't.
You know, I understand that.
Yeah.
So don't think that I wanna replace you. It would never be like that because regardless, I'ma still care, you know, because I had a dad, you know, and he also passed away. So I understand how you feel. I understand how you hurt. And I would feel the same way that you feel.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Well, Samantha, are you ready for the DNA truth?
Yes.
I think it's time to find out, so come with me. So Samantha, in this envelope is the truth of your identity. You had a father growing up. You knew him as your father. And then through an ancestry test, you went on your own personal journey to find out and you met Angel, in this process, you have gotten close over the past couple months, but you still need the answer to know if this is your sister or not.
Yes.
And this envelope is your truth. It's not my truth to open. So good luck.
We're not. Oh.
No. Okay. Oh, okay. Come take a seat for me. How does that make you feel?
It just makes me interested still about the rest of the ancestry.
Yeah, because clearly with ancestry, it's saying that you're related somehow. So the fact that it's not your father, there has to be some other connection that's showing that you all are related.
Yes.
How does this make you feel knowing this?
Weird. I don't—
Weird, yeah. It makes sense.
I watch this show all the time and I never pictured myself in that, neither this position at all. And then to, for that, yeah. Weird.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I don't quite know how I'm feeling. Yeah.
Supposed to react to that. Well, I will tell you this, there has to be some connection here.
Right.
What that connection is, we now know it's not your father, but there is connection. That's why the DNA has linked you all together somehow.
Right.
And I think the main thing is that at this point, I know you said earlier that your mother is someone who keeps things close to her chest. At this point, she owes you answers.
Right.
She has to let her guard down and let you in.
Right.
And I think that when you get home, that's the first place to start because you gotta say, Mom, ancestry is not lying to us. There's something going on here and you're the only one at this point that can fill in the blanks.
True, yeah.
And as the child, you have to remind her that you are owed that. You didn't have anything to do with the decisions the adults made.
Right.
So they owe it to you to give you these answers so that you can find out who you fully are.
Yeah.
Angel, is there any chance that your father is not your biological father? We have to just always ask that.
God, no.
Okay, good. Just making sure.
I've been a daddy's girl my entire—
I don't—
Yeah. Yeah.
Okay, good.
I mean, we never had to do DNA, so I don't—
Okay. Have you ever taken a genealogy test or anything?
Mm-mm.
Okay, yeah. You just— okay. I just had the question asked or whatever, not to bring up any doubts or anything, but we have to always ask 'Cause when we're doing sibling tests, you know, like that's the one issue that we have when we don't have the parent involved is that it— I've had it unfortunately on this show before where the sisters have come and then we find out the sister who was raised was not. And I'm not saying that's the case here, but—
Well, your son did the ancestry, right?
Yeah, he did.
He did, he popped up on mine.
Okay.
So.
The son popped up as well? Okay then, so yeah, so. So there you're, yeah, there's somewhere in there. There's somewhere that we're coming in.
We just needed to know for sure whether we were sisters.
Yeah, for sure we're sisters.
'Cause that, I mean, that meant a lot.
So it sounds like there could be cousins, definitely cousins in there. Because if your son is popping up on hers as well, that means there's somewhere, but we gotta figure out.
Well, somebody's popping up close family that's close to her.
Yeah.
So that's, that was the biggest, thing that triggered the research.
Of course.
Finding and looking and digging for all the information, which eventually led me to her.
Yeah, well again, mom is the first place to start. I'm just appreciative of you being open to coming here, to saying, I'm willing to do this for my father, for her as well. I'm sorry we couldn't get you answers today, but we're here to support you in any way we can. So best of luck, okay?
Okay.
Thank you, yeah.
