I Fell In Love With My DoorDash Driver | KARAMO

In this episode of Karamo, host Karamo mediates a heated dispute between Octavia, a widowed mother still grieving her murdered husband, and John, a younger DoorDash driver who has become her romantic partner. Octavia recounts a year‑long, unstable relationship marked by secretive behavior, Instagram highlights featuring other women, and a lack of knowledge about John’s living situation. She describes cycles of blocking and unblocking John, attempts to locate his address, and a single, brief date at a casino. John responds with insults, denial, and claims of disrespect, while also asserting his own insecurity. Karamo repeatedly challenges both parties, calling out John’s disrespectful language, questioning the authenticity of their relationship, and urging Octavia to maintain boundaries, specifically to keep John blocked. The conversation also touches on Octavia’s lingering grief over her husband’s death, the pressure from friends to “move on,” and the emotional toll of entering a new, potentially abusive partnership. Karamo offers empathy, validates Octavia’s grief, and advises her not to rush healing or re‑engage with John, concluding with a request for a photo and a supportive farewell.

I'm not playing with you. I'm not giving you a hug yet. I'm telling you, how the hell you don't know where your man live after a year? Give me a hug. Give me a hug.
I love you so much. I love you too, girl.
You pretty. But no, sit your ass down. How you don't know where he live after a year?
Because—
Because what?
I be busy, and I'm too gullible.
The second part. How have things been since you've been here?
So right before we came, the day of that we was coming, I found— I unblocked him on Instagram. Yes, I be blocking him. I unblocked him on Instagram. I went on his Instagram, found the new little highlight that he got that say beautiful women. It ain't me, it's somebody else.
He got a new highlight on his Instagram?
Yes, say beautiful women, him and another woman at the gas station. He telling me, but he don't like taking pictures with me, but he telling me that I pressed him, pressed him, pressed him. He's telling me that that's somebody he messed with a year ago. We've been messing with each other a year.
And he made it a highlight?
So I tell him, I'm like, "Well, I'm getting my own room. I don't wanna sleep with you." He don't believe me. He gets his key card, I get mine. He follow me to the room. I'm like, "Okay, maybe he gonna drop off my bag." Yeah. No, he comes in, takes his shoes off, get comfortable, undo his pockets. I'm like, "Uh, what you doing?" He talking about, "Well, I'm finna go to bed." "No, you not. You finna get on up outta here." I'm like, "Delete the highlight and then you can stay." Yeah. He didn't wanna delete the highlight. He did not wanna delete it. So I'm like, "Okay, you got your own room, bye boo." He get the, "Oh, you're fat, you're big," and this, that, and the third, just going off. So I'm like, "Okay, yep, thank you, and you're broke, and you're ugly," and this, that, and the third. So he does a little love tap, takes off down the thing.
What's a love tap? We not going over that. What's a love tap? Demonstrate on me.
He like this.
Is he 12?
He might as well be. I'm like, you act just like my son. He's 6.
Yeah. Okay. So did you block him again?
I blocked him. The next day my phone was dead, lost my charger, I don't know where. I go get a charger, everybody's blowing me up. I'm thinking it's somebody from production. It's him. Oh, Octavia, you good? Uh-uh, don't call me unless you ready to apologize and be a grown man. Hang up on him. He's steady making texts now. Steady, just steady, just steady. I left him alone and this morning we went to go get some IHOP. He came back yesterday and apologized. He apologized and then he got down on his knee. I pressed the door closed. I'm like, uh-uh, you lying. We just toxic.
You're toxic.
It's funny. It don't sound funny to me. It's different than what I'm used to 'cause I was married. So this is more like fun 'cause he's younger. My husband was older.
Got it. How deep are your emotions into this? Are you in love?
I don't know.
That means no, you're not in love. You're not in love. Do you see a future with him?
I did at first, I did. When we first met, he was my DoorDasher and he came.
You met him off a DoorDasher?
He came.
Girl, don't mess with you.
He came and brung the groceries and I'm telling my kids like, "Y'all take the groceries in the house." This man takes the groceries in my house to the kitchen. And I'm like, "What are you doing? We live in the hood." Like—
Yeah, get out my house.
Something could have happened to you. And he's talking about, "Well, you fine, so let me just get your number." So I'm like, "Okay." He's texting me back to back to back for 2 weeks. So I'm like, "Okay, he's consistent." You know, but then I'm like, "Nah." I got too much going on, so stopped talking to him for 6 months. Then he popped back up. Hey, good morning, this, that, and the third. He sent me his line card stuff. He come cut the grass, he do it for the free. Helping me out with all kind of little stuff. I'm like, okay. So I give him a chance and then we go on a date. First and last date to the casino.
Hold on, so in this time that y'all been together, y'all only been on one date?
Yes.
One date?
One.
Okay, now let's get back to the first thing I said when you came out here. A year consistently and you don't know where he live?
Nah. And I even tried to play it where like, I was like, well, can you wash some of my clothes? I'm gonna drop 'em off so I can know where you live. He didn't go for that. So then my homegirl was over, we sitting down, I'm like, okay girl, we finna play this. I'm finna try to get his ID so I can take a picture. So we pulling out IDs. Yeah, I done took his, so now we tussling and I'm like, yep, got you.
Yeah.
We went to the address that was on there, that wasn't his address. Wasn't no cars or nothing out there.
So where does he— where do you think he stay?
I don't know, somewhere about 10 minutes away. He stay somewhere about 10 minutes away, 'cause whenever I call him, he be close.
So when you call him, he comes close?
Yeah.
Could he be homeless?
No, 'cause—
Right, she's talking about, "That's what I'm saying, okay?" No, I didn't FaceTime him, so—
He ain't homeless.
Does it look like somebody else's home?
Yeah, he live with his mom.
Oh, so you think he live with his mom?
Yeah.
That's what you assume?
Yeah.
But you don't know?
Not for certain. He like to call me back before he get in the house.
Okay, so you're here 'cause you want his phone unlocked?
I do.
Why? 'Cause I wanna see what's going on. Can we get his address?
Can we get his address? 'Cause that would be the only reason.
Well, I wanna see what he doing. Like, I do like John. Funny, he's fun.
Got it. Okay, so everyone please help me welcome John to the show so we can hear his side of the story.
And hold on, hold on. And this is, and this is why I hate a fat lying snot gobbling wench because she got tired thinking I ain't with she the Who got 4 other than me?
That's a lie.
She liar. She is a fat, snot-gobbling waste of a liar.
See, this is what I have to go through.
That's what she do. But even if I was broke, I'm a big bitch ass, you know what I'm saying? She is a liar. For 6 months straight, I'm texting her good morning every damn morning.
You are a liar.
Hold on, hold on. She came off the cut one day, say, hey, "Uh, I got a man. You seem like a nice person. I don't wanna offend you." But when I finally get with her, "Nah, John, that was a lie. I just had something going on at the time. I didn't wanna—" Because like I said, when she went on that date, she walked out like— Now I get out the car, now, huh, huh, huh! Then what we doing? You know what I'm saying? Now she's not real enough, now she wanna call the police. 'Cause I'm out here whooping on some shit. You understand what I'm saying? Did she tell y'all about the time somebody knocked on the door while I was in there chilling? No. She ain't tell you that? See, y'all out here laughing with her. What a girl to make that face after I see you.
But John, where you stay?
Let me ask you a question.
So hold on, let me ask you a question. Where you stay at? With my folks. Okay. Why you don't give her your address?
'Cause she has a house.
Why can't she find out where you live?
She could come here anytime, it's just— So then invite her. She is a very disrespectful person. She will not come where I stay being a disrespectful fat slob. And I mean that with my heart. This is what she does. This is what she does. This is what she does. This is what she does. I don't want to be around some disrespectful snot-gobbling wench.
But when I block you, you keep coming back.
I won't live if I still block you 5 days. You're still blocked on Facebook.
You're still blocked. Your phone number is blocked. You don't exist.
I don't wanna see you post about shit no way. Okay. Okay, man.
John, why did you come here to the show? So I could get something off my chest.
I'm a local rapper. She thinks just 'cause I get notoriety in St. Louis that I'm— You don't get no notoriety. That's what she thinks.
You told me you was famous when I met you and I didn't know you. What famous person do DoorDash?
That's a fat black hater. She's a fat black hater. Who's famous doing all this? She's a fat black hater. What famous person is cutting hair? She is the fat black hater.
Okay, John, John, John, John. It's my fault.
She hating on me.
I know, okay, so this is what I'm— For what? Okay, John, okay, so I like to have fun and I like to have people express themselves.
I was a little mad, no shade, she lied on me.
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. But the consistency accidentally of disrespecting a Black woman on this stage. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I apologize.
No, you don't. But she didn't disrespect me. I'm a big. I'm a.
So hold on. So let me tell you something. So she did not call you any of those things on a national stage.
She said it to my face.
Well, what I'm saying to you right now is we're going to make sure we're modeling behavior because she didn't come out here and say those things about you. What she talked about was You not knowing where she lived. She talked about you being outside of her house when she was on a date. She said— But that was when me and her was together though. I understand that.
So she went on a date, she talked to another man while we were together.
But what you have done on this stage is consistently disrespect her in a way that is out of order and violent. There was no reason for it.
No, I didn't mean to. I tell you, I'm sorry. John just said Barry's not fat.
Like you're not around fat people all day.
But when she said she went on a date with another man, that angered me, 'cause she said that was her cousin.
You knew it. She said that was her cousin. I told you.
You said it's your cousin. We were not together when I asked you.
You couldn't clarify nothing. You couldn't speak on nothing that we wasn't together. What are you talking about? I posted it. That's why you knew we wasn't together.
You both got here. You came here to unlock her phone as well, right?
I trust her enough to where if she's saying that, I just trust her. She said that was her cousin, but she just said she went on a date, so I can't trust her, can I? Nope. I told you. No, you didn't. Whatever, John. You said, John, that's my cousin.
He's like, I'm real disrespectful.
I wanna go ahead and do this. Let's unlock the phone. So Octavia, we unlocked your phone, but you didn't wanna unlock it.
And she found dudes.
She refused to unlock her phone.
We came here about that. But look though, but look though.
Hold on, lemme see this.
Look though. 'Cause I can already assume that Jon has probably done the same. Jon, we unlocked your phone and you refused as well. Okay then.
Now check it out, now check it out. This is why I did that because I respect her. When she's telling me that these dudes are her cousins or her friends, she already getting tricked on when she got somebody with money because she's scared to ask me. Yes, I told her several times. I told her one time.
So thank you for being here. No, I wasn't disrespecting her. No, no, no, no, no, no, the amount of disrespect I just heard. Okay, I'm calm down, I'm calm down, I'm calm down. Unfortunately it's too late for me. Thank you so much for being here. Will you unlock your phone and say take care?
What? I wish you all the best. Look though. I wish you all the best. She lying on me. I wish you all the best. She lying on me. She lying on me. 'Cause he lied on me. 'Cause he lied on me.
Yeah, that went on a little bit way too long. This is where like—
The only part that like really hurt is like using my husband. Like, that's crazy. Like, my husband was murdered. I stayed to myself 2 years after my husband died and it took a lot for me to like, and that's, Who he was talking about when I said I'm still with somebody. I'm still attached to my husband. My husband was ripped from me. I didn't get to break up or do no closing. My husband died. Like, it wasn't something I could just— then I had to do a funeral with 2 kids.
I'm so sorry that you had to experience that. Again, this is where for me, like, you can see I can have fun, but then it gets to a point that it's just stupid. And as he was talking, I said to you several times, I said, "Please don't justify it." You saw me when I said that. I said, "Don't defend and don't justify it." Because we can all see what a crazy fool he is. And there was not a need for you to justify anything. And I'm so sorry that he came on this stage and disrespected you. You're still grieving. And I think while you're grieving, you were hoping to have a little fun. To take your mind off of things. To just say, okay, let me try to get back out there. Let me try to have fun. And unfortunately you found somebody who tried to portray they were sweet but is vicious in their heart. And he's vicious in his heart because he's insecure. And insecure men are one of the most dangerous men on the face of Earth because they will try to tear you down because he's insecure. And that's what he's doing. He knows you're still grieving. He knows that you're not fully gonna get attached. And so he's trying to break you down. You do know that, right? Yeah.
Not all of it, but now I do.
You know it now. You know it now.
I don't know, it just hurts.
Like, then my friends, like everybody try to push me to move on 'cause they think I'm, Still so attached to him.
So can I tell you something? Yes. Because now that we've discussed him and who he is as a person and you've seen it, I need you to first acknowledge that he needs to stay blocked. There's no more letting him back in. What he exhibited on this stage is beyond anything any person deserves. You do not deserve that and you should never tolerate that. Please do not unblock him. Promise me you will not unblock him. And then secondly, the issue that people have is they like to rush other people's grief and their grief process. And then just hearing it come outta your mouth, I already kind of assumed it, that probably people are saying to you, "Girl, it's okay, you gotta, you gotta." You don't gotta do anything. And if no one is giving you the permission to stay on your timeline of grief, I'm giving you the permission to stay on your timeline of grief. Okay? That was your husband, the father of your children, the man you loved, and I'm sorry he was taken from you, but you do not need to rush to prove to somebody else that you've gotten better and end up in situations with something worse. Don't do it, okay? We can laugh all we want, but when he start doing shit like this, it ain't funny no more. Can you take a photo with me? Thank you.
Thank you, Karamo.
You take all your time, OK? OK. All right, I love you. Help me get out the show. Say, stay with us, friends. Stay with us, friends. We'll be right back.
Mm-hmm.
