I Found Your Dad Online 3 Weeks Ago! | KARAMO

In this episode of KARAMO, host Karamo brings together 18‑year‑old Donovan, his mother Constance, the man who raised him (Mishari), and Ben, a man who may be Donovan’s biological father. Three weeks earlier, Constance revealed to Donovan that the man who raised him might not be his biological dad. She disclosed that she had previously tested two other men via DNA, both of whom were not the father, and that she had kept this secret for 18 years. Donovan reacts with shock, feeling betrayed and questioning his identity. Constance explains her past relationships, the failed attempts to locate Ben, and her recent decision to finally contact him after a family death. Ben, who had been unaware of a son, expresses hurt but a desire to connect. Mishari, the non‑biological father, is praised by Donovan as a strong role model, and Karamo acknowledges the potential emotional impact on him. The group discusses the implications of the truth, apologizes, and ultimately reveals an envelope containing DNA results confirming Ben as Donovan’s biological father. The episode ends with expressions of hope for building new relationships while honoring existing bonds.
Chapters
So 3 weeks ago, Donovan says his mother gave him news that put everything he knew into question. Everyone, please welcome Donovan to the show so we can hear his side of the story. How you doing, Donovan? Nice to meet you, man. Let me get a hug, brother. Nice to meet you, man. So what happened 3 weeks ago?
So my mom called me, she was basically telling me I got another father, which I ain't never knew about. I've been living with my real, well, what I thought was my real dad.
Your entire life?
My entire life.
Okay.
And then I called my brother, he told me he knew about it. I called everybody else, everybody else already knew about it. So it was just a shock.
So your entire life, let me get this correct, were you raised by the man you thought was your father?
Yeah, yeah.
So you lived in a house with him?
Yeah.
So at 18 years old, after living with this man, you are told that he could not be your father and everyone else says they knew.
Exactly.
You call him dad, right? Yeah. Okay then. And how's this news affected you?
I have thoughts about it like, dang, where my father been all my life?
Like, yeah. Do you know who this man is that could potentially be your father?
Nah, I talked to him over the phone like briefly, short. He tell me his background and stuff like that. But like, I don't really know him like to be a father.
Let me be clear, this happened 3 weeks ago. So at the age of 18, 3 weeks ago, your whole life is flipped around.
Yeah, basically.
Okay. Well, your mother Constance had something to say before the show. Let's take a look at this.
20 years ago, I had a lot of boyfriends. I thought the first guy was my child's father. When I put him on child support, the DNA test proved he wasn't the father. Then when Donovan was born, I thought he looked like another guy I had sex with. When Donovan was 12 years old, another DNA test proved that that man wasn't his father. Two guys, two DNA tests. Neither one was the father. My son deserves to know his biological father. As my son got older, I realized that I already knew that.
I'm fine.
I don't want nobody mad at me. But I knew all along. I knew from the beginning. All right. When Donovan was 9 years old, I told him that there was another man that could be his father. And I also told him to keep it a secret. I told him to keep it a secret because I didn't want to hurt his father, the one that's been raising him and taking care of him. I remember when I got with Ben 19 years ago. We were on and off all the time. When I got pregnant, we ended up getting into it. I left. And I think he forgot I was pregnant. After that, I lost all contact with him. I never knew where he went. I Googled him 3 weeks ago, called his number, and I told him, "You've got a son. Karamo, please help me prove what I've always known." Okay, there was a lot to intake there.
What do you think about what she just said?
It was shocking. Like, I didn't know.
So you didn't know that she first tested 2 other men?
Yeah, I didn't know it was 2 other men.
And then secondly, she made the allegation that she told you that this man was not your father and she said, "Keep it a secret." Do you remember her saying that to you?
To be honest with you, I really didn't. I really, I don't even remember when she first told me.
Yeah.
'Cause I already knew my father.
Yeah.
I knew who he was.
And she also is saying that she's always known. How does that make you feel?
Like, damn, you've been keeping a secret for 18 years. 18 years, like, don't you think that'll affect me? I feel very like she manipulated me in a way. Like, my dad, he's the best father, but like I have another father out there in the world.
[Speaker] Yeah, okay. [Speaker] Yeah. [Speaker] The interesting part is she said in the last of that video, "Please help me confirm what I've always knew, Karamo." But from her own video, she said she didn't know because she tested two other men.
[Speaker] Exactly.
Exactly.
So that leads me to believe that maybe this might not be your father either. Have you thought about that possibility?
Yeah, but you know, if it's not, you know, our past, it's always a reason why.
How was your relationship with your mother growing up?
Relationship was rocky, you know, I ain't really live with her for too long, but it was good over the phone.
Why didn't you live with her?
She had some issues going on with her.
And tell me about this man that raised you. His name is Mishari?
Yeah.
Tell me about Mishari.
He really the best role model as a father you can have. Like, that's my dog for real. Like, anything I can call on him and anything car related, I can call him.
How did he feel about you coming here?
He told me I should do it, but deep down I know he ain't want me to do it.
Yeah.
Yeah, 'cause we had a bond so tight. None of this can break it.
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah. Well listen, before we reveal the DNA truth, it's time to meet your mother Constance and hear her side of the story. So everyone, please welcome Constance to the show. Hi Constance.
Hi.
Thank you for being here. Nice to meet you.
Hi baby.
So you said you always knew. In the clip, what makes you so certain that Ben is his actual biological father?
Okay, well, I was dating two guys at the time. I ended up leaving both of them and I met his dad. In a two weeks period, I ended up having sex with all three of 'em. So when the first one I thought that was his dad wasn't his dad came out, I reached out to Mishari. I lost contact with Ben. So when he started getting older, I was like, "Oh my God, you know, I made a mistake." Because you saw what he looks like. I saw what he looked like.
Yeah.
So.
Why do you tell two other men that they were Donovan's father?
'Cause they were my boyfriends.
Okay. And did you really tell Donovan about Ben when he was younger?
'Cause he doesn't remember.
He may not remember, but I did mention it to him at like about 9 and I told him to keep it a secret. But at 9 years old, he was, you know, I mean, he was my baby at the time.
He probably was 9 months. Yeah, I only remember her telling me to keep it a secret.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
And that was it after that.
So what made you finally say, "I need to tell him," 3 weeks ago?
Okay, well, what happened was my daughter's dad passed away and she never met him. My father passed away, but I had my father in my life.
Yeah.
So when knowing my child's father passed away, never met him, and then Ben not knowing, you know, that he had a son out here, I wanted to, you know, I was trying to remedy my wrong, you know? I knew, I had that in my heart that I knew Ben was the father when I started seeing him grow up.
Got it.
So why did you wait so long to find Ben?
Why didn't you communicate more with him? Well, actually, I tried to find him years ago, but Google wasn't as technologic, you know, as it is now. So I Googled his name, it came up, his phone number, recent phone number, 2025, so I contacted him. You know, I just wanted to get it out in the open 'cause it was like weighing heavy on me.
Of course, yeah, you want the answer.
I'm looking at my child and I'm seeing this man, but I know he has a great, that wonderful father, you know, already in his life. I didn't want to interrupt that, and so it was pressure on me.
If Ben is found to be his father, do you think that Mishari and Donovan's relationship will be interrupted?
At this age, you know, he's had his father. I'm just trying to get them to know each other, make that— let them have the connection so it can get off of my guilt.
Why do you think I need the connection with him?
Because your sister lost her dad, never knew him. She cried to me. She wanted to come to here, too.
I had my father all my life. This is just really disrupting something.
I'm sorry about that, B. I didn't never mean to disrupt it, but I just wanted the truth. And then I owe Ben too, so it was like I'm hurting both people. I'm hurting 3 people all at once.
Yeah. Donovan, do you have anything that you wanna say to your mother?
It hurt you, but it really don't hurt me that much.
So Donovan, you're gonna be meeting Ben for the first time today on this stage.
Which is very exciting.
Yeah. All right, well everyone, please welcome Ben to the show.
Hey. Everything's gonna be all right. All right.
Everything gonna be all right.
How you doing?
Blessed, blessed.
Yeah, nice to meet you. How do you feel about everything you've heard?
It's a hurtful feeling, but you know, if he is my son, I want him in my life and stuff, you know?
Yeah. Do you remember dating Constance 18 years ago?
Yeah, a little bit. But I was a player back then, you know, so.
Yeah, yeah.
I know where I get it from.
You're a player as well, you said? Oh, okay. Did she tell you she was pregnant?
Yeah, she told me she was pregnant while we was messing around by this other guy. And you know, I just wanted to feed the baby.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's all it was.
Got it, okay. So are you upset with Constance at all?
Yeah, kind of disappointed, not really upset, 'cause I didn't know I had another son.
Yeah.
And ooh, I'm so glad to see him and stuff, you know?
Yeah.
I'm hoping he's mine, said I wish you would spend some time with me, I wanna get to know you. Yeah, sure, yeah, yeah, we'll do it. Yeah, I ain't trying to break up your dad from him or nothing. I'm not gonna do that, no, I'm not.
Was there a way that she could have gotten in contact with you all this time?
Yeah, she could have went back to the neighborhood and got in contact. I got a sister still though.
So that area is full of your family. Did you know that sister?
Actually, his mother is deceased now, but actually his mother met, seen the baby like 2 or 3 times.
Oh.
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, really? When?
And then she, when she, I found out she passed in 2017 or something like that. It was like the end of me finding out.
Got it, got it. Okay.
I don't even know who she is.
So you didn't know that you had met your potential grandmother?
She was, he was a baby. He was with his dad's mother and when we first seen him. So yeah.
Wow.
Okay. Well, how do you feel about that knowing that your mother who's passed potentially has seen your biological son and met him?
Yeah, I'm glad she did see him, man. That's a blessing.
Yeah. What does your family think right now?
Everybody think he look like me and stuff.
Do you think he look like you?
No.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, he a little player.
I can see. Uh-huh. And you have other children?
Yeah.
How many other children do you have?
I got 7.
7 other children. Do you have siblings from your father?
Yeah, yeah, I got a brother.
He over there.
You got a brother over there?
That's my child.
OK. That's my child.
That's your child. OK.
I have 8. OK.
So you have other siblings. So you have a big family. Family now.
I got a big family.
Got it, okay.
A lot of cousins and—
So Constance, can I ask you this? Why didn't you raise Donovan?
I did until he was like 11, 12 years old. Yeah. A situation happened where he had to go stay with his father.
Okay. Is there anything you wanna say to Donovan before we do this?
I wanna say that, I mean, I know you say it doesn't bother you, but I really am sorry. I apologize to you and your father. I also apologize for you. I could have reached out to you too. And it's off my chest now.
Okay. Ben, is there anything that you wanna say to Donovan?
I know you was raised by another man and stuff, but— Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I ain't trying to take you from that man, but I truly wanna spend time with you.
For sure.
We can do that. Get to know you, what you been up to, you know. Yeah, yeah.
Ben, is there anything you wanna say to Constance before we go?
Eh, Abigail. Abigail. I got you. Thank you.
Well, Donovan, are you ready for the truth?
Let's do it.
Come on, come with me. All right, Donovan, in this envelope is the truth of who you are. You went your entire life thinking one man was your father. He was a great father to you. You were raised by him. You used to have a great relationship with him, but your mother 3 weeks ago said there is another man that potentially could be your father, and that man is now sitting on this stage. In this envelope is that truth of your identity.
Or she could be telling a lie.
That's possible as well. So this is your truth to open that mind, so good luck.
All right, let's do it.
And I'm telling the truth.
Hopefully.
You are my biological father.
I saw what you're talking about. It's cool, it's cool for sure.
Let's see what the future brings.
Yeah. Sounds good.
I'm gonna have you sit in the middle actually.
I'm gonna have you sit in the middle. Have you sit in the middle.
Yeah.
Donovan, how does it make you feel?
What do you think? I ain't gonna lie, this made me feel like way better. I was stressed coming on here. Trying to see what this, trying to see what this brings.
Yeah.
But shoot, we know I know the truth now.
But now that you know the truth, and the fact that he is willing to be in your life, and that your relationship with the man who raised you, who is your dad, is gonna be strong.
Most definitely.
Yeah, so I think you're gonna be surrounded by love. I think that's the most important thing.
Yes, hopefully.
Ben, what do you, yeah?
Yeah, let's see if you can step up, be a man and stuff like that.
Stay true to your roots.
Ben, what do you think? That's easy.
That's easy.
I want you to be a good man.
All right.
Got you. For sure.
Before we go, shout out to Mishari, 'cause Mishari, I know that you're gonna watch this and you're gonna be grieving. And I wanna let you know, like, your son loves you.
I ain't gonna be grieving. He a man. He a man first.
So young brother, men still grieve.
Yeah.
And even if they don't show it, they might be in private. They gonna have so much emotions, which is why at the beginning of this I told you emotions are gonna come up. And so what I want you to be clear about is that when those emotions, the first piece of advice I gave you, when they come up, don't say, "Nah, I'm gonna hold these down." Controlling it will say, "Nah, I got this. I can handle it. I'm gonna keep going. I don't need to worry about that." And that will fester. If I could give that tip to any young man, especially any young Black man at the age of 18, it is the best piece of advice. Because as you know, we will sit there and we'll hold everything in and that will come out in some ways that it don't need to come out. And so that's what I'm saying to you. And as I'm saying to your father, Thank you for being the man you are. I know you're gonna go through emotions. I know you're gonna have to grieve. I know you're going to still be the great father to him because I can tell the man you raised. So we wanna shout you out for raising such an amazing man. But also remember, if any of your feelings come up and you feel like you don't know how to process them, remember, never take it on the child because he had nothing to do with this. And that's a conscious and unconscious decision that I'm just reminding you of so you can be the best father continuously for him. Yeah. I'm glad that you got, Your answers, I'm glad you got your answers. I'm glad you now have met your son. So congratulations to you all. Yeah, congratulations to you all. Friends, stay with us 'cause we'll be right back with more. So I'm gonna show y'all something because I try to use this show as a model to help people. He's already doing what I told him not to do, which was repressing, and he's 18. How do I know it? When the show ended, he got up and walked in front of them. So which lets me know you're angry. You're also grieving. Shock has now set in. I'm hoping that he'll sit back there and the two adults that heard me give him his advice will remind him of that advice because what's gonna happen is that's gonna fester in that little boy and he's gonna be 19, 20, 25, and he's gonna be angry and he's gonna be confused and he's not gonna trust. And what I know about an 18-year-old boy who doesn't trust, the first people that he goes to because it was from his mother is the women he dates. And then you have a 25-year-old now who doesn't trust women and now who is like, well, I don't trust you no way, so I'm gonna treat you like this and I'm gonna do what I gotta do. Let's all just say a prayer that the little boy feels his emotions and doesn't let it get the best of him. Like, seriously. But I'm glad y'all caught it too.
