Chapters
When did you first think that your girl Norma was cheating on you with a family friend?
It's been about 6 months ago.
Okay, 6 months ago. Yes. What changed 6 months ago?
They talk too much.
Okay.
They spent time together and it's just been going on and on and on.
Okay, and how often does Norma talk to this man?
24 hours.
24 hours?
Yes.
So she ain't get no sleep. She talking to this person.
Oh no.
Okay, what kind of things does she tell you about him?
Everything. It's like, why are you so invested in this time?
I understand. Does she ever tell you about his sex life?
Huh.
Yes.
She does?
Yes.
What is she sharing?
That he's not getting anything. I said, why did he bring it to you?
So you feel like you're a part of it?
It's none of your business who he sleeps with.
Have you ever talked to this man before?
We can't talk. He don't speak English.
He don't speak English.
No.
Okay.
He's not from this country. Okay.
Where's he from?
I believe.
Okay then. Okay, got it. So she speaks Spanish?
A little bit.
She speaks a little?
Yes.
Okay then. And he speaks full Spanish?
Yes.
But yet they talk all the time on the phone?
In person.
Oh, okay. Okay, it's gonna look kind of interesting, right?
It is. It's more than interesting.
Yeah. So how does Norma react when you question her about everything?
When I question her, she's like a firecracker. She just blow up.
Okay.
And there's no reason to blow up on someone when they ask a question about this situation.
Uh-huh.
There's no reason.
Okay.
But she just take it to the next level.
And how long have you and Norma been together?
We've been together a year and a half. We've known each other 30 years. Okay. Plus.
Okay. And why did you all only start dating a year and a half after 30 years?
We dated 21 years ago.
Oh, okay.
But for a brief moment, but we broke it off 'cause I was with my baby mama.
Uh-huh, okay then. And then y'all got back together now because you were like, "Let's give it a shot." We ran into each other and then we just started talking and we said, "Okay, I'm not with anybody, you not with anybody, let's start a relationship again." Okay, what did another family member tell you about Norma before reconnecting?
I was told by this young lady that Norma slept with her baby daddy.
Okay. And did you believe it?
You know, I don't know what to believe anymore, Karamo. I'm just like going cuckoo over this. Yeah.
You've known her for 30 years. Is that in her character?
No.
She said no. She said no. Okay, okay. You said no. So you told my producers that Norma sent you an explicit voicemail. What was that about?
Oh please, hurry, bring it out.
Sound like someone's having sex, you can hear moaning. You know, and it just go on and on for 57 seconds. And I question her about it later on that evening, and she thinkin' I'm delusional, crazy, psychotic, jealous. It's like, who's jealous of things that, oh, you just wanna hear sex, there's nothing goin' on. I tried to let her listen to this for 2 or 3 times, and she don't wanna listen.
Well, you got it, 'cause I wanna hear it. We got that? Did you give it to our producers? I gave it to them. Okay, do we have that voicemail? 'Cause I wanna hear it, let me hear it. Okay, I'm gonna take a panel. If you thought that sounded like sex, raise your hand. Okay, if you thought it sounded like a rustling in a pocket, raise your hand.
So most of the time— Now, did you hear a dog bark at 9 or 10 seconds?
No.
You can hear a dog bark once, just once.
Did y'all hear a dog bark? Okay. Yeah, there was a dog barking. So that doesn't really sound like sex to me. It sound like more like a rustling of pocket.
You can hear that. You can hear it, I'm telling you.
Okay, so then if you thought she was cheating, why not just leave?
Why didn't I leave?
Yeah.
Karamo, I've tried many times. I, you know, let's take a break. Let's do this. Let's, you know, get some help or something.
Yeah.
'Cause I've been cheated on 2 or 3 times. Got it. But you know what? I'm not letting that happen anymore.
My producers told me that she disappeared for 2 weeks. Is that true?
Oh yeah.
What happened?
Just didn't hear from her. She usually come over my house all the time.
Yeah.
You know, I said, you know, if you got a problem and you got an issue with your mom, she's sick, I understand that. But you know what? Don't get lost.
Hold up, but she's the caretaker for her mother?
She is.
Okay, and so that's normally where she goes when she leaves for a while?
She live with her mom.
Got it. So she didn't technically disappear, she just didn't come over.
Just didn't come over.
She didn't come over, but you knew where she was.
Yeah, yeah, I knew, well, I don't know.
Well, you think you knew where she was, but okay.
I think I know where she was.
Got it. All right, well, it's time to hear Norma's side of all of this. So everyone, please welcome Norma to the show.
Hi.
Hi, Norma.
How y'all doing?
How are you doing?
I'm fine. What is you talking about, though? Sitting up here saying that stuff has got me looking like two seconds out hooker. What's wrong with you?
Don't be rude. You're very pretty.
Thank you. Sorry, y'all.
So what's going on with you and this family friend? I just gotta ask you directly.
Nothing, not a thing, Karamo. I go to work 10 hours a day. I come home, I have to take care of my family, very ill, okay?
Your mother, he told me.
Yes, okay, yeah, it's my mom. So when you working 10 hours a day, you go home, you take care of your mama, then you get up, get a lift and go to his house, cook him dinner, take care of him. What you think you gonna be after that? Thank you. Now what is wrong with you?
But is it all the time?
Yeah, no, I'm supposed to just halfway take care of you.
Don't say it's all the time 'cause it's never all the time.
You're 55.
Exactly, and I'm supposed to call my mama.
You're grown. You're grown. Nobody said you can't take care of your mom, but you need to come and see about your man too.
I call you all the time. It's not like I neglect you at all.
Why did you go missing for 2 weeks right after my birthday?
And you know, you know, Momma, what I really say.
I said, Norma, you could come over at least once or twice a week. You come all the time now.
Like I said, if I'm working 10 hours a day, go home and do that, depending on how my day is, I'd be tired. How many hours do you work?
I work from home.
Okay, so you work from home. See?
See? See what I'm saying? But he won't come to my house. That's what he should have done.
Let me ask you this. Let me ask you this. Yeah. I hear your point of view. Do you think, because I wanna go back to the initial thing that he was feeling, do you think you talk to this other family friend too much?
I don't know how, I can't talk Spanish that good.
Okay. He also brought this voicemail that he says you're having sex on.
Okay, go on.
Are you having sex on that voicemail? I just gotta ask directly.
Does it look like I'm having sex? Does it sound like I'm having sex?
It didn't sound like you're having sex to me or to the audience, but we gotta ask.
Yeah.
There was a few people that raised their hand.
Probably 3.
Maybe.
Who are the people that thought it sounded like she was having sex?
How?
They all pointing to you in the purple. You thought?
How?
I was sick.
Everybody pointed to you. Yeah, don't get mad. I thought it sounded like sex. I thought it was like Chi-Chi-Wawa, and she probably would be hopping all over me.
You sound like sex too.
But I wouldn't hop all over no man. 'Cause let me tell you and let you know, and please believe, if I was having some sex, It'd be a hell of a lot louder than that. OK. OK. Oh, no.
Stop that.
Let me hear it.
Because you also said there's a dog barking. Let me hear this voicemail one more time.
Before you go to that, Karamo, no.
I want to hear the voicemail one more time because you said a dog.
You said you hear a dog bark once.
You heard the dog.
It's a hot one here. You be quiet, 'cause I ain't talking to you right now. You don't know, you don't know nothing. How many of y'all gonna sit up there? Do y'all think I was like fucking somebody? Amen. Now I better not hear not a damn thing about this. When we leave this stage, I better not hear nothing about this no more. No more.
No more.
There you go. You done lost it. Miss me.
Turn around. Let's—
You done lost me. Answer the question. Answer the question. I don't want to hear it. That is not right. You done lost it. I sent you a birthday gift on my birthday and after that— That's what he done did. Give me something to eat.
So after the birthday, after his birthday, you were— After the birthday, you were with your mother the entire time. Because he keeps saying you disappeared. But it's not that you disappeared. No. It's just that you were at your mother's house and you couldn't go over to his.
And if I get tired, like, I ain't going to lie, I be watching Housewives.
You.
Thank you.
OK. Because I'd be wanting to jump up and slap somebody. OK. Because— and you got to keep your hands to yourself.
Yeah.
Because you'll go to jail.
I get that. Amen. That is true.
Oh, you've been down that road.
Does it bother you that Dexter believes that you've been unfaithful?
Yeah, it bothers me. It hurts my feelings.
Have you ever cheated on him?
No.
Ever?
I don't cheat on him like that. There has been—
Like that?
Hold on.
I don't cheat on him.
Like that?
No. Well, I don't do anything like that.
You caught that.
You caught it. I think we all caught that.
Hold on.
I don't do like that.
Like that.
That's just my phrase.
That's the way your phrase is. Okay, so you said you've never cheated. No. Okay, well it's time to find out. It's time to unlock the phone.
Well, go unlock the phone.
All right, Norma, we unlocked your phone.
Here we go.
He won't let you unlock his.
They didn't ask me.
Dexter, you wanna know if Norma has any dating apps on her phone. She says she does not. My Lock the Phone investigator searched her apps and found that Norma is telling the truth. Dexter, you wanna know if Norma has been communicating with her family friend. She says she has not in any inappropriate ways. My Lock the Phone investigator searched her texts and found that Norma is telling the truth. Dexter, you wanna know if Norma is communicating with any other men. She says she is not. My locked phone investigator searched her DMs and found that Norma is telling the truth.
Now, now, now what do I gotta say?
Ask her why these 30-year-old guys are calling you.
No, you shut up, you done said enough, Norma.
Why these 30-year-old guys are calling you?
He done lost his damn mind. Tell him I ain't been cheating with nobody. Why these 30-year-old guys are calling you? I ain't did nothing but make some chitlins and collard greens. That's who I'm cheating with, the damn stove.
Don't! Stop it.
You better stop it.
The main thing that I've realized is that Dexter, you have never healed from what you thought you healed from 20 years ago. You told me you were cheated on then, and since that time has been, you haven't healed. Because the first relationship you got into, you allowed your paranoia and your trauma from that past experience to bleed into this relationship. The truth of the matter is, is that if you're making commitments to say I'm gonna be in a relationship with you and knowing that you have to be a caretaker, you have to be respectful of the time it takes for her to be a caretaker. It sounds to me that she is giving most of her time to her job, to her mother, and to you and leaving very little time for yourself.
Very little time for myself.
Very little, to me too.
Now hold on.
Oh, see selfish.
So hold on, hold on.
No, let me talk, let me say something because if people—
No, let me say this. No, y'all don't even know. This is what we say because again, I asked you this Let me ask you this again. I asked you, what do you do? And so you said, "I work from home." And so what I know about somebody who's had the ability to work from home, you have all day where you're just at home and now you worked and you're like, "Oh, now I want attention. I want time." But she's not working from home. She's going to work. She's right. I'm gonna be like, "Oh baby, you know what? I know that you have been at work. You gotta take care of your mom. Instead of you coming to cook for me, let me cook for you and bring it to you." I cook for her all the time.
For both of us.
He does cook for me, but have you ever, in your days of living, have you ever cooked something for me and brought it to my mama's house? I ask him all the time. Why can't you come to me?
I'm not even gonna speak on it.
Just half the time. Just meet me an eighth of the way. But I can't give me, I can't give you gas.
If you want to connect with your woman more, you have to first of all believe that she's being honest with you because she is. We've just proved it in her phone. She's not doing anything on you. Again, that is your issue. You haven't healed from your past. There's no interactions with this family friend. They not talking about nothing. She's not in her phone talking to nobody. She's not doing nothing, that. She does nothing. She's coming home, work, and to her mother. That is what we saw.
Mm-hmm.
Do you love her?
I love her to death. I tell her this all the time. Do I not?
So then if you love her, stop pushing her away.
I love her more than any woman I've been with. That's what I tell her.
And so that's where the fear comes in. That's the fear.
And he's right, Karamo, you right.
You've been vulnerable. Now you love her so much and you're vulnerable and you're like, damn, I don't wanna do what I did before and get hurt again. But she's not hurting you. Who's hurting this relationship is you with the paranoia and not being understanding of all the things that she got on her plate. I need you to turn to your lady and say, I'm sorry for thinking that you were doing something wrong. Yeah.
I'm very sorry. Very.
Thank you.
You know that, and I tell you, I told you before we came, I said, if you pass everything, I will apologize to you. I am very sorry, deep down in my heart, and you know it. Now what I ask for you. I love you to death.
What I ask for you is now that you've done that and you can hold that in, here you go, brother. Now that you've done that, what I ask of you is just to be a little bit more understanding understanding of the time that she has. There's a lot of love here, but there needs to be a little bit more healing so that y'all can grow together even more.
And I told her that too. I told her that. Thank you. I have told her that.
You're welcome. Thank you so much, 'cause I've been going through hell.
I know, I know. And also, thank you for watching me and supporting my show. I really appreciate it. I appreciate it.
