How did you first find out about Twangela?
Well, I got a phone call from my aunt on my father's side, and then she was like, "DeVentra, I have someone on the phone that you need to meet." And I was like, "Okay." And then she's like, "This is your sister, Twan." And I was like, "Okay." 'Cause it was surprising to me 'cause I always thought I was the only child. So that's how I found out about Twan.
Did you ever question if she was really your sister when you heard this?
I questioned it. At one point, but she and I started writing each other and she did tell me once before that she didn't believe I was her sister, but eventually we made up after, I think I was like 19 and we became, you know, really sisters and hanging out with each other.
Well, I can understand why both of you would have doubts. All of a sudden you've been raised to think one thing and then one day someone gives you a whole new truth.
Absolutely.
Of course you're gonna question it. So when was the last time you spoke to her?
I haven't spoken to Twan in about a year and a half.
In a year and a half?
Yes, it has been a while.
What happened that stopped y'all from speaking?
My mom threw my sister and I a surprise birthday party. And Twan kind of giggled off, and she's like, because I'm a decorator, I decorate events, birthday parties and so forth. And she said in a funny way, like, your mom is letting you decorate your own birthday party. And I was like, OK. And I didn't say anything at the time. And then the next day, I called her. And I'm like, Twan, why didn't you tell me about my surprise birthday party? And then she was like, I thought you knew. And I was like, what? How would I know? How would I know? I did speak to her one time, like, my mom asked me all these kind of questions, which was strange, but at the same time, I still didn't know, and she just confirmed. Yeah.
So it hurt you, 'cause you felt like she was being spiteful.
Honestly, it made me feel like, why would you ruin my surprise birthday party? You know, what was really behind, you know, if there's a motive behind it, what really is it? You say you love me, we call each other sister, we believe we, maybe sisters, but I don't know.
[Speaker:KARAMO] Got it. So we have the birthday text that she sent to you. Did you ever respond to this? So she said, "You're such a wonderful blessing everyone knows, and thank God for the gift of calling you my sister. Happy birthday, sister. Love you and enjoy your day, sis. Y'all don't be petty. Say happy birthday to my sister. Happy birthday, queen. Enjoy your day to the fullest." So she did that on Facebook and then sent you also this message. Did you respond?
I did not.
Did she come to the party?
No, she did not.
She didn't come to the party. Got it. What are your main issues with her?
My main issue with Twinn is just I don't think she like to take accountability for certain things that she does. And I want her to recognize what it is. That's the only issue I really have with her.
Got it. Makes sense. So do you want this DNA test today to confirm that she is your sister?
I do, absolutely. But I'm just done got to the point to where I just can't keep allowing people to, to eat at my table and I'm constantly staying at theirs.
I feel you, I hear you. All right, you have not, yeah, I hear that, I get that, I respect that. Well, you have not spoken in a year and a half, so everyone please welcome Twangela to the show. How are you?
Hello.
This color looks beautiful on you.
Thank you.
Yeah, it looks great. So you haven't seen each other in a year. What does it feel like seeing each other right now?
I'm at odds right now because I'm just disappointed by what I just heard. I am, literally.
What do you feel? What made you feel disappointed?
Far as how we stopped talking, far as the birthday, she brought it to me. She brought it to me. Me and her was on the telephone talking and you kept bringing it up and I said, why would you say your mom having you a surprise party?
I know, Twin, that's not true.
And you said, because she's asking for my friends' number and she want them to do things for her.
That's not true. My mom said that the surprise birthday party was supposed to be for our favorite cousin and I thought it was that, but then my mom would call and ask me and my sister like, what colors y'all like? You know, what kind of cake you would like and stuff. I said to Twan, and I even told her like, Twan, don't say anything, but I'm not sure if this party is for me 'cause my mom keep asking me questions, but I never was certain. I just was only just like speculating. I'm not sure if this party's for me or not, but she confirmed it. Even if I wasn't sure if it was my birthday party or not, but she confirmed it when you were wrong. You was wrong for that.
You kept saying it every time we talked on the phone.
No, I only told you that once, Twan. No, that's not true. Twan, don't sit here and lie.
I can see you probably in the back of your mind fishing, but you don't really want. She was.
I wasn't fishing.
What I just heard you say out of your own mouth, and here, tell me if I'm wrong. You said, I called and said, it feel like this party being thrown for me.
And she did.
Because she asked for this song.
I wasn't sure, but I was telling her that so it can stay between she and I. But I still wasn't sure. I was like, well, my mom asking me crazy questions like what colors do we have? But I still wasn't certain.
I get that.
But because I'm not certain, it don't mean that you supposed to tell me.
It's a surprise. I get that. That's just what it is. But what I was trying to say is I see both sides where I can see how if you're fishing, you might want me to be like, okay girl, yeah, it is for you so you can be prepared. I know that's not your perspective, so I can understand why you're hurt because you're like, I thought I was just talking to my sister. What I'm telling you is I can see both perspectives. Like if I was a third party on this, I could have understood why she felt like maybe she was gonna just confirm it for you. And I could also understand why you felt hurt in that moment. So what I'm trying to help you to see is that yes, your truth is clear and I confirmed it. I understand I'd been pissed off too if I didn't wanna know the surprise. But I'm also saying that as a third party, I can see her side. And that's what I'm trying to see. And you are clear on your side, but I don't think a lot of times y'all hear each other's side.
And that's the truth.
And I believe that. But this is my thing for you. I know that. So you're questioning.
But what did I bring to you?
Hold on, hold on, hold on. We're gonna go back there right now. Hold on.
I didn't know anything about no problem.
You brought it to me.
I brought what to you? What did I say to you last time?
You said your mom having this surprise. I believe my mom having me my sister's surprise party.
You did say that. You just said, I told you I knew about the surprise party. I didn't know that.
No, she didn't say that you knew.
She said, what did you just say?
We gonna move past that. She didn't say surprise party. She said, no, you called her and said, I think that my mama's throwing me a surprise party because she's fishing for this other information. So because you two had this issue over the birthday party, then all of a sudden is when that betrayal and that hurt came that y'all decided to feel like maybe we're not sisters. Is that what brought us here to feel like we need to confirm paternity? I mean, confirm the two twins.
For me, I'm not sure about Twain, but for me, there are doubts, but I'm not sure. I mean, if you had to ask me, I would say, yeah, we're sister, but because we, according to what our parents said, all of us here can only go by what mom said.
Mom said, okay.
And that's what we both go off of. However, because of me, our situation was different.
Got it.
Twain was acknowledged by our father's side of the family. I wasn't at the time, and still to this day, Some accept me and some not because our father was murdered when I was 1 and I think Twin was 10.
Got it, got it, got it.
So when I came into the picture and got to be of age, you know.
Half of them didn't acknowledge you.
Yeah, because he wasn't here to validate me or whatever.
Yeah.
So.
Yeah, I hear that. I'm so sorry that you experienced that. There was no other big moments where you said, "We're not sure if we're sisters," correct?
I did. For me it was. I did question it in the beginning, but then once me and her communicate and connected the bond, we had a bond. She was really my sister, a sister I didn't know.
So if you found out today she's not your sister biologically, do you want a relationship with her?
I'm not sure. Only reason why, because of things that has happened with Twain and I, certain things keep happening and I just wanna know if that's gonna continue. I don't want that cycle to continue to going on.
Your daughter Celeste in the audience. Hey, how you doing, Celeste?
Hey, guys. How y'all doing?
How do you feel about what's going on?
Right now, I just honestly feel like what they got going on just needs to stop. Absolutely, 'cause they're sisters. Life is too short to be going on, on, on. Just come on, like hug it out.
This is heartbreaking for you a little bit because like this has been your aunt your entire life almost.
Yes, that's my baby. Hey, Auntie Twinnie girl, you look good, girl. Hey, boo.
Yes. You can see though what I saw a little bit earlier. Did you hear in that story? You saw your mama was a little stubborn, right?
Yeah, they both stubborn.
Yeah.
They both stubborn.
I see that. They both stubborn and shut down.
Yes, they did. You know what's crazy though? Because my mama do have her ways when she, like you said earlier, no, I said this, I said this, yes, my mama can be like, you know, no, I said what I said, but it's like, Mom, you do need to hear other people's story. And when them two even said, but no, listen to me now, when they both did say like, it's a discommunication, if she would've spoken to her and said, well, Twin, why you did this and the third, and Auntie Twin said, well, I did this 'cause of that, boom, it would've been shut out, but because they both stubborn, she probably didn't wanna say nothing, they didn't wanna say nothing, now all of a sudden y'all just stopped talking. Now y'all was separated for a year for no reason.
Yeah. I appreciate that perspective.
She is grown now.
She's so grown. It's such a great perspective, come on. You've done a great job, Mom.
Thank you.
Yes, you're welcome. All right, well, I mean, I think it's time for the DNA truth. For you all to know if you are sisters. You have the initial questions? You've had this, so this is your truth to open.
I got nervous now. Oh my God.
Yeah.
Twan, regardless, you know I love you either way. However this come out, you still my sister. I still love you.
She's your biological sister.
Thank God.
You sure you ain't with this right here?
Oh God. I know.
Oh God.
Oh God.
What else?
We gonna say it at the same time?
What?
Same time.
No, I've been saying it for a second.
Same time. Same time. Don't be stubborn now. Same time.
And she got to do it first. Because she always, she never does it.
That's why we're saying same time. 1, 2, 3. I was trying to say that. They know.
Work it, bro.
Y'all are doing the same time. Come on, y'all can do that. Y'all can do it.
I'm sorry, Twan. I should have talked more. I probably should have reached out a little more. I did reach out, but we should have kept on talking.
I really need to hear that. Honestly, I really need to hear that. Because you never told me you was sorry about anything that happened between us.
I'm sorry.
So I'm happy to hear that. And we have to do better. We do. Now that we know we blood now.
Listen, you're sisters and you need to celebrate each other and just don't spoil any of those celebrations anymore, okay? You hear me? Y'all really took a big step here and you got to hear this and just hold onto this, you understand? Like, y'all gotta be there for each other. And I think some of the other things that, if I can be really honest with you, I think there's some feelings about that you've never really talked to your sister about or that side of your family about not feeling the love and embrace that you should have. Which means there's a bit of abandonment that comes in there. It does. Which also allows you to shut down and you can be a support here for her in that part.
Oh, she will. Now that, she always had her back.
Yes, I know you will. Y'all wanna come on down here? Come on down. Come on down. Is that it? Let me give you a papa hug.
