Is My Wife Still A Sex Worker? | KARAMO

In this episode of Karamo’s talk‑show, host Karamo mediates a heated conversation between Jermaine and Takesha, a couple grappling with a history of sex work, substance abuse, and serious health challenges. Takesha recounts surviving stage‑4 cancer, battling crack, heroin, and meth, and turning to sex work to support herself. Jermaine expresses distrust, citing Takesha’s continued rides with men and past prostitution, and worries about safety after a recent domestic‑violence arrest. Karamo introduces evidence from a phone‑forensic investigator (“Unlock the Phone”) to verify claims about ongoing sex work and incriminating texts. The couple discusses custody of their three‑year‑old daughter, the impact of their conflict on the child, and the need for clear boundaries, including getting a car and ending manipulative behavior. Throughout, Karamo alternates between empathetic listening and direct challenges, urging both partners to acknowledge past trauma, stop triggering each other, and focus on co‑parenting and personal growth.

When I got with Taquisha, she was a prostitute out on the streets. She told me that she stopped prostituting 6 years ago, but she's still getting in and out of cars with men. So I don't know if that's true or not, because if you stop your whole tendencies, you shouldn't be getting in cars with strangers. So I feel like she's trying to play the not-so-smart wife. Oh, I'm just wanting a ride. I don't need— I'm just trying to get home. No, no, I don't believe that. She talks to a lot of men, and a lot of men that like her I like her. She'll always try to downplay it. You know what I mean? He don't want me, but I'm a man, I know. You know what I mean?
I was a hoe. I was not a regular hoe, a Merry Christmas hoe, hoe, hoe, hoe, hoe, hoe. You know what I'm saying? But at the end of the day, all right, let me give you some background on why I was a hoe. All right, I beat stage 4 cancer. I don't know if y'all can see that, but I have a port-a-cath in my chest. You know what I'm saying? Thank you. Now, after beating stage 4 cancer, Well, I had a 30% chance. I was given a 30% chance. I thought I was gonna die. You know what I'm saying? I thought I was gonna die. So at the end of the day, I'm like, I'm going out with a bang. I tried everything. I was on crack, heroin, meth. I was like, I'm gonna smoke it, snort it, shoot it, any way I can get it in my system. I'm just glad to still have front teeth. That's it. But at the end of the day, I end up beating the cancer and leaving with a habit. And in order to supplement my income, I did what I did. Now, as far as what he talking about, like, I do get in and outta cars with me and steal. That's because we ain't got no car. You don't want me to get in the car with nobody? Get a car. Get a car. Let's get us riding, baby.
Got it. So how did you two meet?
OK, well, when I was hoeing, I was with one of his friends.
Oh, OK. OK.
So I was with one of his friends. And we rode up. I actually didn't even see the man face first. I saw his belly. And I was like, I want to rub that belly. Because I'm a firm believer. I said, you got to be at least 250 with a little bit of man to get this kitty. You know what I'm saying? I like some fluffy, baby. I like them fluffy. So, you know. I love it.
Oh my God, I'm sorry. You were ready for that one. You were ready for that one.
Like, you handsome and everything, but you too skinny.
OK, I'm too skinny?
Now, it's been years since I've slept with anybody else. Anybody. I mean, years. I've been for that man. I'm for that man. That man gave me my life back. He gave me my booty back because I had smoked my booty off and everything. You know, in the Black community, having a booty means something.
Means something. When did you decide to get clean?
When I smoked my booty off. It was really like, it really wasn't no, no, no, seriously. It wasn't no like, oh my God, I gotta do it for my kids. It was really shallow and vanity. I didn't have no booty.
I appreciate your honesty.
Yeah, I ain't had no booty and I was walking around looking like somebody hit me in the butt with a bag of bricks and I was like, I gotta do something about this. I need my booty back.
And you have a 3-year-old daughter together.
Yes.
Is she your only child together?
Well, she's the only one we have custody of.
Okay.
I have 6 children total. Okay. And we had one child before this and I lost custody of her 'cause I was still on drugs.
Okay.
So, but yeah, and they took her, but the 3-year-old's the only one we got in the house with us.
Got it. Is he a good father?
He's a great father.
So I have to ask you serious 'cause we saw the video and he has concerns. I know you said you get in the car because you two don't have cars.
Yes.
But are you still prostituting?
No, but I'm not gonna lie, I do still manipulate men. At the end of the day, I've never, Sex and love have always been two different things for me. And with him, making love and being intimate, that's something he taught me that that's for one person.
Yes.
That's you, every time you sleep with somebody, you give them a piece of yourself.
Yes.
They take your soul. You know what I'm saying? And Lord knows my soul gone 'cause my body count high.
Okay.
Now at the end of the day, he's giving me my soul back.
Yeah. Do you get in arguments and do you get in arguments in front of your daughter?
Right before we came here, we almost didn't make it to the show 'cause he got arrested on a domestic violence warrant roundup.
Oh, wow.
Yeah, yeah, seriously. I was like, really, today? Y'all gonna come pick him up of all days before I go to the show? All right, so—
So you mean like really, like right before you came?
Yeah, no, 2 hours. And only because I told a joke to the cop. He called his boss and his boss's boss and they brought him back home. And he said because my husband was the only one that didn't run that day, and he said because I was so cool—
He let y'all out.
He said, I'm gonna let y'all go do the show. 'Cause he said, that's what we're going for, to try to fix our relationship. Because he's not a woman beater. At the end of the day, I was the aggressor.
Does your daughter see that when y' all do that?
Now, she has seen it, but what happened was. Okay, we had a situation where I go in my baby's room, and she got her dolls. And, I mean, they cussing each other out. Like, she got the dolls. And I know she's imitating us.
Yeah.
And I said, she can never see that again.
Got it. Well, listen, everyone. I want to see what Jermaine has to say about all of this, so everyone please welcome Jermaine to the show.
Man, you're making your story sound good.
You ain'.
She ain't telling all of it though. She telling bits and pieces, but how you doing, man? What you mean I ain't telling all of it? Got these people laughing. Yep, yep, sure do.
So how do you feel about what she was saying then?
Well, I just feel like some of it was like kind of sugarcoated. Because the reason the police came to pick me up was because of her drama. It was what, about 3, 4 months, 6 months, almost 6 months ago. You know what I mean? And I got mad and she called the police. She'll do that thing in a minute. Like, she'll hurry up, and on a black man in Toledo, Ohio? You know what I mean? Like, they ready for that. It's just, I'mma tell you this. The officer that came to the house knew me. You know what I mean? Knew me from a past relationship. You know what I mean? With somebody. And he saw how dramatized she was, and he saw that it wasn't really marks on her or nothing. So this is what's helping me out. When them police came to get me, Before we came to the show, I mean, yes, she told some jokes, you know what I mean? But when I was in the car, they was like, yeah, man, you're a nonviolent person. You know what I mean? We really finna try to get, 'cause I told him, I'm going to the Karamo show.
I love you, man. Love you too, man. Thank you, I appreciate it.
I'm the one, he got me watching you.
Yeah, I the one that—
He got me watching you.
I watch you every day.
Thank you, I appreciate that.
You know what I mean?
And I love the way you interact with people. So I was telling him, I wanna go to the Karamo show, and this so he can fix us. They saw our little problems and everything. They saw I wasn't violent. She didn't have no marks. I mean, you told a joke. You know what I mean? But they said, so you've been so nice or whatever, and we gonna let you go. They turned the car back around and let me go.
That's good.
You know what I mean? Let me come home.
But I do understand, like, you know, there's a duality here. She feels unsafe. I get the calling the police. But I also, if there's nothing really there where you're not really unsafe, and like you've said, and he, like, we understand, like, as Black men, what could happen with police officers.
And that's why I said—
Did you feel unsafe when she grabbed a knife before I even jumped up, before I even said that?
No, no, not that time. I grab knives now because I'm not gonna lie, my husband get this thing where he get really mad, I see this look come across his face, and when he get that moment in him, I really am unsafe. That particular day, I was in the house, I was going off, I'm throwing stuff, all that stuff. He rolled up on me, was like, "Throw something else in this house, see what I do." You know what I'm saying? So I threw something else. He choked my behind up, but he had me for a second and I saw that look in his eyes.
Yeah, so you got nervous.
And I got scared and then he took my phone.
I took her phone.
I literally broke outta my own house running. I felt like a white girl in a horror movie. Got it. I really did. I was so scared and I ran and I called the police.
And about this me getting a car, she's grown too. You see what I'm saying? If you love me, you should be grown enough to get your own transportation.
[Speaker] Yes. Why do you think she's still prostituting?
[Speaker] Because basically, these are men that like her. These are men that's offering her stuff.
[Speaker] Who don't like me.
[Speaker] They offer. She come back and tell me, "Yeah, he said he'll gimme some money for this and that." How do I know that he didn't give you the money to get what you got? We had a thing where she used to go downstairs and it used to be a lot of men sitting out by the barbecue grill and there's a lot of older men. So a younger cat that I knew, And she'll go out there and she'll smoke with 'em. So she had like got into a little, well, I got into an altercation with one of the guys because they disrespected me. But what he told me was is she was out there, you know, putting her things in his face and she was like, hold on, no, you know you got, he was like, hold on now, you know you got a man or whatever. So me and this man almost finna fight. You know what I mean? Now everybody labeled me crazy, the crazy man behind her. But when you shouldn't be down there trying to hang around a man just to smoke some weed.
Yeah, I got to say what you think. So you telling me I shouldn't go talk to people because they might want me or they might say something?
Men think one thing. You hit they blunt, you hit they liquor, they can hit you.
What will you do today if you find out that she still is prostituting?
Oh man, it's gonna be over with. You know what I mean? I'm gonna have to parent. I'm gonna have to do, we're gonna have to co-parent. You know what I mean? I love my daughter to death. You know what I mean? But I'm gonna have to get my own place because I can't take this no more.
Got it.
You know what I mean? I'm older. You know what I mean? I can't be stressing out like this and I will go off. And see, it get to a point where it's not about her. You know what I mean? A lot of these men out here disrespectful. You know what I mean? They act like they ain't never had a female before. You know what I mean? So at a point I gotta take it into my hands. So if she can't stop getting out these cars, I gotta save my own life and gotta get, yeah.
Get out of it. I'm gonna go a little bit deeper in it. But first we gotta unlock this phone. So when we ask you if you're still doing sex sex work after she said she stopped for 6 years. You said you are not. My Unlock the Phone investigator searched your apps and your browser history on your phone, and she's telling the truth.
That one.
You want to know if she was texting with a man from this summer. She says she is not. My Unlock the Phone investigator searched all of her calls, and she's telling the truth. My Unlock the Phone investigator did find an interesting text between— Takesha and a friend about coming to the show. So this one says, I'm getting nervous, I don't know why. And the friend says, because there's 30% chance you're gonna say something incriminating, 25% chance you and your baby daddy get in a physical fight, and 100% chance you're gonna say something embarrassing.
That's my best friend, she know that.
So, but my question was, what is it incriminating that you could say?
Well, she said incriminating 'cause she thought that I wasn't supposed to be able to talk about my crack usage and all that type of stuff.
Gosh. 'Cause she my baby.
Okay, just wanna make sure. Just wanna make sure.
I tell everybody.
We circle through everything. So when I see little keywords like incriminating, it lets me say like, is there some other secret thing that you're hiding that we don't know? But she's giving clarification.
That's still kind of like, ooh.
You both need to see each other for who you are now. The example that you have for your 3-year-old daughter now is a prime example that you all are trying to be better human beings. So you have to see each other for who you are now. And you can't keep bringing up your past. And every time one of you says something that's gonna trigger the other one, you have to stop and not react and say, are you really saying that because you see me now or are you trying to be funny?
Jermaine, I love you. I love you more than I love myself. You are the reason why I got my booty back, baby. I love you.
Don't use a joke here.
I'm sorry.
Don't use a joke.
See, that's her. That's her.
Don't use a joke because you have to.
You made me wanna be better. Right. And I love you. No, I got you. And I just need you to know that I don't want nobody else. And I promise to stop saying the stuff that I say, but I don't want nobody else. I just want you to know that this is you.
And the cars, I mean, I just can't handle that.
But it's cold out there.
The bus stop right in front of the house.
Okay.
So I'm gonna tell you this. So in this right now, I understand because you said it outta your mouth, I know how to manipulate men.
Yeah.
Your man is telling you that he has to set a boundary here.
Yeah, I got to, I got to.
If you really wanna see the growth, if you really wanna see this.
I gotta stop doing that. Just gotta ride the bus. You told me I gotta ride the bus.
I gotta tell you, you gotta ride the bus.
Hey, she promised to get out them cars. I'm gonna work towards getting us a car.
You hear that? There you go. You hear what he said?
I'm putting my heart into that.
I will tell you this though, because I went onto your Instagram before, I mean on your TikTok, and it's super cute. I love what you're doing. I love like this TikTok with you and your little baby.
There go my little mama.
I know, I love it. It's so cute. As y'all are working on this growth right here, there's something that needs to happen next because there was another column that I put here that also got me. When you said outta your mouth, I got sober for my booty and not my kids.
Ooh, yeah.
Now I gotta tell you.
That's the honest truth though.
Imagine you hearing from your mother that I didn't get sober for you, I got sober for me. I know that you saying that's your truth, but that's not the truth a child wants to hear.
To hear.
And I'm gonna tell you, there's a lot of work that has to be done.
I don't believe that's her truth. I believe that's a cover-up. She don't wanna cry about that.
You don't wanna cry. It is, it's a joke.
Come on, y'all, man.
No, it is. No, no, no, no, no, you can't make a joke about it.
It is, it's another joke. You know what, you calling me out and I gotta be honest. Because these children— At the end of the day, I always wanted to be better for my kids. And I'm supposed to be there every damn day, but I'm not. And it hurt.
I got it. But those jokes are not gonna help. They weren't helping y'all two to heal. It wasn't, it's not gonna help your kids to heal. And so the reason I brought that up is because I want you to understand that that work of not doing these jokes and this cycle y'all in, it's not just here. There has to be, that cycle has to break for everyone so that the healing can start the entire family.
Well, can I just say to my babies, look, babies, wherever y'all, if y'all watching this, I tried so hard to get together for you and I couldn't, but I'm together now and we gonna fix this. Whatever you need mama to do, we gonna fix it.
Okay. I'm gonna tell you this, and this is sincere from my heart. If your kids ever reach out and you need support in navigating that conversation, I don't know if you've seen me with mothers, daughters, and families on here.
I have.
I can help resolve.
That's why we here.
Yeah, I will help resolve. So if you need that support, I will be here with you and those kids because they need to know that mom and dad have grown and to want to be there. I understand that what your past was, and they will have to recognize that, but this is a first step. Please, y'all got love in y'all. He set his boundary, no more getting in the cars. You know she's not doing anything. Yes, I do. Stop trying to trigger each other through abandonment and through jokes, okay? Yeah. I wish y'all the best of luck.
