Karamo Admits To Being Toxic In His Past! | BFF UNLOCKED EP. 2 | KARAMO

In this episode of BFF UNLOCKED, host Karamo and his longtime best friend Trey review past clips from The Karamo Show and discuss a series of relationship and friendship dilemmas submitted by their audience, referred to as "cousins." The conversation weaves through multiple personal anecdotes: Karamo confesses a chaotic, toxic past in his 20s that included wrecking a roommate’s house; Loretta’s betrayal by a childhood friend who became involved with her boyfriend; debates over whether it’s acceptable to stay friends with an ex; handling last‑minute plan cancellations; and a two‑year estranged friendship involving a broken knee and perceived abandonment. Throughout, Karamo and Trey alternate between humorous, confrontational banter and sincere advice, emphasizing the importance of boundaries, respect, and personal growth. Karamo frames his own transformation from a “chaotic friend” to a more mature, centered adult, using his story as a cautionary example for the audience.
Chapters
So one time in my 20s, I wrecked this man's house. And the only reason I had access is because Trey was his roommate.
I had no idea that's what he was back there doing.
We're going to watch back some very unfriendly moments from the Karamo Show of BFFs going at it. And then me and Trey are going to give y'all our thoughts. Welcome back to BFF Unlocked. The only place where you can find me, Karamo, and my very best friend, Trey. What's up?
We're back.
We are back. This is the spot where we're going to be giving you advice. So best friend Trey, are you excited to be back?
I'm very excited to be back in our living room. It's real cute.
Girl, could you imagine if we had a living room with this many photos of us?
No.
That's a lot.
That's a lot of love. We do love each other a lot, but that's a lot of love.
You're right. OK, so you know what we do here. Up first, our childhood best friends Loretta and Jerrika. Let's take a look. So you found out that the man you were in love with wanted a relationship with your friend.
Yes, and I wanna know why would she do that to me and what's going on. That's why I'm here.
And did you notice any signs?
They was getting too close up on each other, like.
Mm-hmm, girl, I've been there.
They always cooking together.
So they're spending a lot of time together.
Yes.
And what rumors did you hear?
I was hearing that she was going in and out my room. Yes. And my sheets was smelling like perfume.
Not the sheets, girl. Right? Not the sheets.
Smells like her perfume. And then his mouth be smelling like. Yes, y'all.
Girl, people's mouths on this show. I'm a good Christian woman, honey. Stop it.
You set the tone.
I do not talk like that. How long have you and Jerrika been friends?
We've been friends for years.
For like years?
Ever since we was jits.
We need to bring that word jits. She said we've been friends since we was jits. Has she ever done anything like this before?
Yes. Matter of fact, my ex, my ex, she was messing with him. And I'm wondering why that you go after my ex, now you going after my man.
Dang, it's a pattern.
He told me.
He told you?
He told me over the phone. I talked to him, I think it was last week I talked to him. And I asked him, I said, what y'all got going on? And I asked, have y'all had sex yet? He said, yes. She wanted to use protection because she don't want to get pregnant right now.
Right. That's crazy, girl. This your friend since childhood. That ain't your friend. Listen, there. You hear my audience, they always will tell you the truth. She said it right here, that they ain't your friend.
The cousins are agreeing.
That's not your friend. Have you spoken to Jerrika since you said—
Yes, I talked to her.
And what did she say?
And she said they don't have nothing going on, but I know that's a lie.
Are you and James together?
Um, we're actually not dating, but we live together, we sleep in the same bed together. That's not what James told me.
We are roommates.
Hold on, hold on, hold on. Girl, they sleep in the same bed, they're roommates, but we not together.
Her and James sleep in the same bed together?
No, there's one piece you said.
He pays my rent, my half of the rent as well.
Hold on, hold on, hold on. So, 'cause I gotta back up. So you said you're roommates, but you sleep in the same bed?
We sleep in the same bed together.
Why do you sleep in the same bed together?
'Cause they—
Oh, yeah.
We're not having sex yet.
Yes, y'all is.
Yes, y'all is.
Yeah, that's giving very much that.
Honey, how do you feel?
They haven't. They are definitely getting—
You think they're sleeping together?
Yeah, they're definitely sleeping together.
But what do you feel? Do you think that she's wrong for that?
They're broken up. Yeah, she's wrong for that. I mean, that was your best friend.
Oh, now you want to say she wrong for that? Let's bring it to the court, bitch. Let's bring it to the court.
She's definitely wrong for that.
If that's your best friend. So every guy I have ever dated, every guy I've talked to, tried to sleep with. He has to sleep with every single one of them.
You have this running storyline for our entire life. He tells everybody.
For my entire life, I've been telling everyone.
It's ridiculous.
I say he has been sleeping with my boyfriend.
He says every one—
I wanted the drama, but he would never do it.
He says every one of his boyfriends I've slept with. He tells his mom this. He tells his sister this. He tells all of my friends this.
He did it.
It's never happened. He did it.
We're going to find out one day that he actually did it.
You'll be proud of me.
Girl, you're a psychopath. I'll fight you.
Because you'll be happy that I have a little slut in me. That's why.
You would like that.
Girl now with my exes. So, so how do you feel about the fact that she's sleeping with her ex? You said you hate it.
I don't think that's cool. I mean, unless they're not best friends anymore. Even if they're not best friends anymore, you're not supposed to like double back like that. I don't think— I don't feel like that. I, I mean, I know we have this joke, but no, I would never.
You would never?
No.
Yeah, for me, I can tell from the perspective of their relationship that they really not that close to Okay. Because now, like, if they was real best friends, like, bitch, like, now we fighting. But like, you can see how they sitting on that stage. So I know they're not best friends. So this is my thing. Like, if you're not with him, let me just be in the bed.
Who cares?
Who gives a damn?
I get what you're saying, but— We grown.
What are we going to do? I don't know, because this is the thing. I've told you this before. If something like that ever did happen between us, where you slept with somebody—
We going to stay friends. We staying friends.
There is no man that's getting in between us.
Never.
Who gives a damn about a man? But you would be upset.
I would feel some sort of way.
Well, I'll tell you this. We have some confession video of me backstage that my producers caught. What? Apparently I had to confess something. Can we roll the footage?
Boy, stop.
About what? Would y'all gag if I did a confession on myself?
Toward me?
No. So the reason that you and I, just to end this up, would never have that issue is because our taste is so different.
So different.
That's the real key to being a best friend, baby. Yeah, you and I, best friend, cannot have the same taste.
It's not the same type of thing. If you and somebody have the same taste, y'all are not best friends.
You never had to confess nothing.
Worry about that. He not have to worry about me at all.
I mean, like, we going to a club, we be in a grocery store, baby, and we are never looking at the same person.
We're never aligned.
Never aligned. I think it's, I think it's critical because then you don't end up in stupid shit like this. Oh yeah.
That's, this is the real time to not be aligned.
All best friends I know that have been together for like 15, 20, 30 years, they don't have the same taste. Look at their husbands. Look at their wives. Yeah.
This is the right time to be, not be aligned.
Absolutely. Not, not aligned.
Because we have no conflicts there.
Y'all wanna know who the person who gives me advice? It's this man right here. So I thought, why don't we answer some y'all questions, give you all advice based on our different experiences? So, Trey, these are questions that have been submitted by the cousins at home. Okay. You ready to select?
Yeah, let me do this.
All right.
My best friend broke up with someone I became close to. Am I allowed to stay close to their ex? Huh.
Girl, you know how I feel about this.
This is why—
this is where me and him, he get on my goddamn nerves. Mm-hmm. Say it.
Go for it.
Say it again.
I mean, okay, this is how—
Girl, you already stay friends with all my exes, so go for it.
Go for it.
Just say your truth.
I am not friends with them.
Yes, you are.
I am not close with them. I am not—
Yesterday we were at lunch and my ex literally text you talking about happy birthday, Trey. Y'all have a whole DM conversation. Did that not happen yesterday?
But that's not my fault.
But you still interact.
I'm not friends with him.
You still interact.
I've said thank you.
No, girl, you still interact.
That's not the same.
So now listen, I'm completely different. Trey's done with them. I'm done with them. I see you in the street. If Trey ain't talking, I ain't talking. If I see you fall down a ditch, if Trey ain't jumping to save you, bitch, bye.
It's dependent on the nature of the relationship after he's done with them. You're still friends with all your exes. So why would I be friends with them or be cordial to them? That's all I'm saying. You literally are still cool with everybody.
Yeah.
So if you're cordial with them, I could be cordial with them. I'm not friends with them.
You do be friends.
So I'm not hanging out with them.
Were you not hanging out with him at the house at a party without me? Don't even sit here and lie in front of the cousins. Were you not hanging out?
Not me.
You and your husband was hanging out with him.
No, I was not. He was. They became friends.
I was never—
I never hung out with him without you.
You.
Okay. See how you be adding? Okay, so to answer this person's question, am I allowed to stay close to their ex?
No.
No.
Good. Thank you. We want to know y'all's opinion. What do you think? Do you feel like it's okay to stay friends or do you feel like you cut it off? Okay, here goes my question. My best friend keeps canceling plans last minute. Girl, he's not your best friend. How do I bring this up to her without sounding dramatic? Girl. Be dramatic. Be dramatic. Yeah, absolutely.
Your best friend. Keep canceling plans? I would. Yeah, no. I mean, I show up for everybody. You do.
Okay, so this is our difference. Trey will commit, and baby, I don't care what's going on, he gonna make it. Girl, you might catch me on Tuesday. I might have committed, bitch, but I might not be there.
He canceled on me the other night. Like, literally on Saturday.
So it's Trey's birthday coming up, but he want to go to the club. And so then it was like 10 o'clock at night, and I don't want to go to the club no more.
But it's my birthday, so.
I mean, but I gave you enough notice. See, I didn't— I wasn't like—
I was in the shower. You know, it was not enough notice. It's like, what are you talking about?
But normally I don't cancel plans.
No, with you.
It's usually other people. With you, I always stick to it.
Yeah, for the most part. For the most part. That Saturday became before the most part.
Okay. Well, listen, I just think the bigger thing of this question is Why does your friend not respect you?
Yeah, that's—
Because if they're canceling plans last minute, that means there's a respect issue. Because your time shows respect. And if they're not respecting your time, then girl, bye. Okay, well, the next story we're gonna watch is a story of estranged besties who haven't spoken in 2 years. Have they already moved on? Well, we're gonna find out.
2 years ago, my ex that I was involved with broke my knee. And James James was the first person I called. James is like my brother. He's my family. He's my everything. I was disowned when I was 15 from my family. And James has a very large family that I've always admired. And I've always wanted to be a part of that.
Oh, that's like you with my family. You're all in my family mix.
Yeah.
Everything. Everything. Yeah.
So when I called my brother, it's like, yo, I need you to come pick me up. Right now and take me to the hospital. He was very like nonchalant and cavalier about it.
Girl, somebody broke your knee, bitch. I would have to call an ambulance because I'm on my way to that man's house to break his knees. Girl, let's be very real about our friendship.
I had to get an emergency— get a, um, an ambulance. An ambulance, thank you. Yeah, to take me to the hospital. When I found out that my knee was actually broken, I called him again. And I told him and he kind of just acted like I was being overdramatic.
You're in the hospital at this time now?
I'm in the hospital.
Okay.
And that's, we haven't spoken since.
And when you say being, it sound like he was acting as if you were being overdramatic. What was he saying?
Well, he was giving me a lot of excuses. He was saying that he was tired. I think he was saying that his left light was out.
So what happened after that?
James reached out to me, but by that time, I personally was no longer ready to talk to him. I will say my ego did get in the way.
Got it.
When I was ready to reach out to him, he did not reach out and I understood that. I respected that. A mutual friend of ours tried to come and mend our relationship. I was open to it. My friend said that he was open to it. Still haven't heard anything.
Hmm, okay. And when did you hear from James?
Well, that's why we're here today.
Wow. I haven't heard from James in any way. So James, from your opinion, what happened that night?
I came to his house earlier that day 'cause I had to bring him his book. We had just hung out for Father's Day, remember?
I remember.
And he left his book in my car. I went to his house to take him the book. I said, "Oh, you looking good. Where you going?" He said, "I'm going to a meeting." I said, "You want me to take you to your meeting?" And I said, "I was going that way. I'm going downtown. I wanna take you to the meeting." He said, "No." I said, "It sound like you up to no good," because I know him.
Mm-hmm. When you know, you know.
Few hours later, few hours later, he blowing up my phone, calling me, come get me, me and this person just got into a fight. After we discussed days before, you wasn't even gonna talk to this person anymore. So I felt like, handle your business. If this is what you wanna do, you have to handle your own business. And to me it's tough love. I'm not going to come to your rescue when you're doing things that you know you shouldn't do. You have to understand that this is your life.
It's been 2 years since y'all seen each other. Have you missed him?
Certain things.
You don't even miss me.
But the dramatic Jason, I do not miss.
And I hear you and I receive that and I can take full accountability that yes, I am not perfect and yes, I have contributed to several of my downfalls, but it's been 2 years and I just would like for you to give me a chance to show you I've changed.
Have you made any comments to him about the fact that he was in a domestic violence situation and that his knee was broke? Have you talked to him about it?
Have you said anything to him yet? When he was in the hospital, I called him several times.
We talked.
And when he was on his way home from the hospital, I said, "Hey, would you like me to come pick you up?" He said that, "No, because you know your truck is too big. I wouldn't be able to get in your truck." I said, "Well, call me when you get home and I'm gonna come see you." I called him several times after that and that's when I realized I was cut off.
Oh.
Was like, well then you know. So James, so I missed this piece. So he was reaching out to you after you got out the hospital? He even offered to pick you up?
Yeah.
But then once you're home and he's reaching out to check on you, why didn't you pick up?
I was in my feelings. I still, I still was sad.
So now I'm in my feelings.
I feel like you're good with us either way. And that's what's just, that's what's concerning to me. That's what hurts me.
Well, that's a bit of my ego because you decided to cut me off.
Mm-hmm.
So I built up that defense mechanism to protect my feelings. I'm glad you said that.
Girl, don't shake your head. Talk about mm-hmm.
Because when you get the girl back— I agree with that part.
You give them the bricks to start building.
To protect my feelings.
I'm glad you said that because it goes to the piece of work that I need you to do. Because when you get triggered about feeling abandoned, you give them the bricks to start building the walls. Your action of not being willing to be vulnerable and open, because you are in your feelings and I understand why. And so I don't want to invalidate 'cause I get it. If I have felt no one's gonna support me, of course the minute I feel that sign, I'm gonna put a brick there. But then you can't be mad when he puts a brick on top of that.
You do too.
What? I put a—
you agree with it too.
So what you have to understand right now is that if he gives you an opportunity for y'all to move forward, if you ever get triggered again, you can't be the one to shut down and say, you know what, then I'm done. Because that is only going to keep you in a cycle where he's always going to be like, I'm I'm not going to deal with you. OK. Woo! That came easier than I thought. So what were you over there nodding your head, telling him in agreeance?
Because I feel like he was saying that if you cut me off, I'm not going to really put myself through all of this extra to try to be back in touch with you. When I've reached out and you blocked me in some capacity, like, what else am I supposed to do to try to reach out more? And that's what I was agreeing to. Girl, but you essentially agreed as well.
Yeah, girl, because that— I have to give the advice, bitch. We talking about you and me.
Well, I mean, of course we don't have that relationship.
Yeah, but if we ever did— yeah, if we ever did, girl— yeah, you better keep reaching out.
Um, well, it would be scenario-based.
It'll be— you're telling— I mean, like, my ego doesn't pop up like that, but you telling me, like, if I just said right now, like, I mean, I'm in my feelings, you're not gonna try to come in? Of course I'm gonna reach out.
Thank you. Of course I'm gonna reach out.
Thank you.
As this guy should have. But anyway, What he did? He stopped. Well, I mean, I'm just saying.
He stopped.
I'm just saying, I agree with the other best friend is what I'm saying.
Well, girls, so I mean, there's a lot of things that play with this situation. First of all, talking about—
A busted knee.
But he said that he's tired of him being dramatic. Out of the two of us, who has the more dramatic—
Oh, boy, stop.
You.
You know it's you. You.
Are you kidding me? It is you. You.
Karamo, you are definitely the most dramatic. You have your own talk show. Are you kidding me?
Like, but we talk about in relationships and stuff. Absolutely.
You're definitely way more dramatic. I'm way more calm. You gonna put it on.
That's how I relate to my guests. We are family. And this is why I don't judge you. This is why I don't judge you. See, I get the tea right here, my best friend.
Which obviously is completely fine. But I mean, that's the person.
Yeah. So that's my thing.
That's our personality.
So, but this is the thing. When he said right there that like, oh, you know what? My best friend, I'm tired of the dramatics. I'm tired that he always has these issues.
Yeah.
That kind of got on my nerves. Yeah. Because it's like, if that's your best friend—
Yeah, you know that about him.
Yeah, you know that. Let it be.
Even though that is you, that don't bother me.
It shouldn't. Exactly. Yeah. And I also hate when people talk about tough love. Love should never be tough.
Oh, no.
I've said that many times.
If you were really going through something like that, I would have made sure.
Because everybody has went back to that person once, twice, 3 times that they should not have gone to. The ass could be good.
Yeah.
The dick could be good. Everything could be good. You know what I mean? Well, this is the customers we talk to.
I'm so embarrassed.
Because he's so shy. So one time in my 20s, I wrecked this man's house.
Period.
It's essentially my house. Let me tell you, I have wrecked this man's house. And the only reason I had access is because Trey was his roommate.
Exactly. I came home—
And baby, I came in that house. I said, Trey, let me in this house real quick.
But I had no idea that's what he was back there doing.
Baby. Go play on my emotions. I tore up everything. The TV was gone. I go to the bedroom.
The dresser was gone. Just like flip over. I'm like, you did this so silently.
I know, that was cute. You don't want to have the dramatic.
It wasn't like busting, but it was wrecked. I was gagged. I was like, I did not know you had this in you.
I understand him. Sometimes you gotta be dramatic. Sometimes you do it. Sometimes I wish you would have a dramatic moment like that so that I could call me like, why you blow up his room?
I imagine it, and that's the way I get it out. I promise you, the things that run through my head.
It's so much more fun to do it at least once. No way. Like, we're grown now. I would never do any of that stuff again. That was in my 20s. You are definitely—
Oh my God.
I changed something. See, what y'all don't understand about us is that in my 20s, I was the chaotic friend.
Yeah, he was a guest. He was a guest on the Karamo Show.
Baby. I have about 6 different people I could have brought on the show.
Yeah, for sure. I agree.
And Trey would have been the friend that would have been in the audience talking about, Karamo, I just want you to be better. Yeah. Don't put up with this.
I'm standing up.
And then the 40-year-old me now would have been like, Karamo, why are you putting up with this? You don't need to. Get your self-esteem together.
Trey, what were you doing when Karamo was tearing up the house?
I must have been watching America's Next Top Model or something because it was just like he was back there. It wasn't abnormal because that's his boyfriend's room, you know? So he's just back there. Then he comes out like, come, go see what I did. I'm like, what are you talking about?
I go in.
I mean, everything is just everywhere. It was pretty crazy.
I'm like, don't play on my emotions. Wow.
You found something? Yeah, because—
You don't play on my emotions. That's all I gotta say. Now I know how to handle my emotions. So if you do something, I don't care. But in my 20s, baby.
The growth, the growth, the growth.
I'm gonna tell y'all just this, cousins at home, if you have somebody that is crazy chaotic, they can grow to be like the best version of themselves. I'm a prime example.
I agree.
I'm a prime example. It's really beautiful.
It has been very beautiful to watch.
Yes. So this is BFF unlocked. Did you have fun? Lots of fun.
I love this.
What I love most about this is that you all at home, you actually get to know me more. Because when my best friend of 25 years is here, I can't hide. Trey know where all the bodies are, where everything has happened. And as you can tell, I had a very messy, messy past. We all have. But I am a very mature and centered adult now who is here to give you advice and make sure you don't make the mistakes that I made. Listen, I love you, best friend Trey.
I love you too.
You too? A lot. And listen, everyone at home, I love y'all too. So come back and have more fun with us really soon. Thank you for watching BFF Unlocked. We'll see you real soon.
