Chapters
And I might hate you for the rest of my life, for real, because you knew, you knew. Why would you tell him that the baby was dead though?
To be honest, I wanted him to be hurt. I gave birth to a 9-pound healthy light-skinned baby. The nurse was so excited how big the baby was. She said, "This a 9-pound right here." 3 days later, I was handed a 6-pound dark-skinned baby. I felt no connection to this baby. I believe my baby was switched at birth. Me and my friend, we was at the same hospital, and I think they gave me her baby. Andrea don't look like me. Andrea look like my friend. She's dark like her dad. She's dark like her mom. And my child's father, he's Puerto Rican, Irish, and African American. And Andrea, she's too dark to be our baby. I had 4 kids afterwards. All my kids are skinny, tall, and light-skinned. Andrea don't look like none of my kids. It's impossible that Andrea's my daughter. Deep down in Andrea's heart, Andrea know that I'm not her mother.
Everyone, we'll talk to Raylene a little later, but first, welcome Andrea to the show. Andrea, I'm so sorry. I know watching that video Wait a second. I could see your body language. I could see it just bubbling up. Tell me what's going on in your head right now.
It's like, you don't know how it feels. Nobody knows. Nobody. What is wrong with her? All my life, I'm sorry, Karamo.
You're fine, you're fine. You're fine.
When I— The times I needed her, I needed— Oh, God, please help me. Help me, Jesus, help me.
So this has been going on your entire life where she's been rejecting you?
Yes.
When was the first time you remember your mother rejecting you?
I was 18. I was 18 and when she, when we first met each other, when we first met each other, then she still And still was like, "No." Yeah.
So take us back a little bit. So you said you first met her at 18. Where did you grow up when you were a child?
I grew up with, I have—
Yeah, take your time. It's okay, we understand.
She wasn't my grandmother, but they said, well, I wouldn't say they, I was raised as she my grandmother. Then as time went on and as I got older, she wasn't my grandmother. Grandmother. She was just a lady that was a friend of the family.
That raised you?
Yes.
Yes. Okay then. And that's where you lived from birth to 18 years old?
Yes.
Had you had any contact with Raeleen at all when growing up?
No.
You knew who she was though?
Yeah, I knew. I didn't know what she looked like at that time, but I knew her name and I knew that that was my mom. That's all I knew.
What has Raeleen said about your appearance? 'Cause I heard what she said about that on that tape.
Well, I'm too big, I'm too Black. Come on now. She had a Mexican and Black child because that's what she said that she remembered. But me, I don't look the part.
Do you think you look like Raeleen?
I think I do. I'm bigger. That's it. I believe I look like her, my face, everything. But we can't judge like that.
Yeah. So do you want a relationship with Raeleen?
No, I don't want no relationship with her. I just want my results today so everybody can know and she can stop talking about me. I stay gone away from the state and everything because of staying away from the family and not really having to be talked about. So I don't want no connection. I just want my results and she could go fly a kite for all I could care.
Do you?
Yes, that part.
Okay, I gotta ask you, and I heard everything you said, but do you believe you could have been switched at birth?
No, I don't believe that. I don't believe it. I don't believe it.
You were born what year?
1987.
'87. Yes. I mean, I have it, you know, not saying this is not true 'cause I don't know, this is why we're here to confirm, but I don't hear a lot of stories at that time of—
Me either.
People being switched at birth. This is something you more heard in the early '50s or '60s, like where, you know, there was mistakes. Now a lot of that doesn't happen. Well everyone, it's time to hear the other side of this story. So everyone please welcome Raeleen to the show. Please take a seat for me.
Okay.
So I wanna know, how do you feel about what was just said?
Andrea, now you know. What do I know, Raeleen? What do I know? Okay, hold on. When I met you at the age of 18, when I walked right by you, I asked the lady, where were you at? She said by the door. You left, you went in the room, you slammed the door. I went back and left. That's a lie, 'cause I did not go in no room and slam the door. It was my birthday party. I was not in the house, I was nothing. I was outside 'cause we had a jumper out there. And when you pulled up, you pulled up with your kids. So you gonna sit up here and tell us? Yes, I am gonna sit here and say that, because that's the truth. That's the truth. When you saw me, you did not accept me and you know it. And I'm tired of you talking about me. That's the reason why I called the show and to say everything that I had to say. You don't know. And something wrong with you. Something is truly wrong with you. How could you sit up here and say something like that?
What makes you believe Andreia's not your daughter?
I seen my baby. I pushed my baby out. My baby was 9 pounds. My baby was light-skinned. You understand what I'm saying? Why are all your other kids not? My baby was light-skinned. Hold on, why are all your other kids not light-skinned then? Why, why, why they not light-skinned? I pushed my baby out, my baby was light-skinned when I pushed my baby out. My baby was 9 pounds. They told me, they told me, they said I'm going to wash your baby up. My baby vanished. October the 7th, October the 8th, October the 9th, they brought me back a baby. I said that ain't my baby. That baby is too dark to be mine. Oh, now you got a whole different story. Now you got a whole different story. Let me tell my story. Can I tell my story? Can I tell my story?
Yes, I will let you tell your story.
Don't nobody know my story but me. I was discharged with a baby that wasn't mine. I got home, I was told by someone, said, "You have the wrong baby." The lady that I was living with at the time, she was my guardian. My guardian said, "I know, I'mma take care of it." I end up getting in trouble, she hit me. She told me she want me outta her house in 3 weeks. I left with the baby. She came, my brother gave her the address where I was at. She came to where I was living with the police from Pittsburgh. The police came where I was at. The police said, I need to talk to you because a baby is missing. When the police officer came there, he said, this is not your baby. This baby is too dark to be yours. Get up. They put me in the car. The police said, she said, I'm taking the baby. They said, well, you go ahead and take the baby. We got to see what's going on with this. Right after they took the baby, I end up searching and searching and searching. I went to the hospital. The hospital, they was like, we trying to help you. You all right. I've been on this for the last 30-something years looking for my daughter, okay? It wasn't no disrespect to this young lady right here, but I knew When I met this young lady out, when I seen her, when I seen her, I showed her the pictures of who her mother and her father. This young lady broke down. She said, "I do look like her. I do." And I started crying because I wanted you to feel good. I broke down because I wanted you to feel good 'cause constantly you kept saying that you're not my daughter, you're not my daughter. How you think that made me feel? How do you think that made me feel? You can't even talk to me. How do you think that made me feel? How do you think? How do you think that made me feel? All that time? All that fucking time? How long do you think that baby been gone, crazy bitch? I understand how you feel, I really do. You don't understand shit. You ain't never tried to call me, you ain't never tried to check on me. You ain't never nothing. Even if that wasn't your daughter, you could at least ask me, how are you? Are you okay? Are you okay? Why you couldn't call and ask me? I struggle by myself, I stand alone, and I even came alone by myself. 'Cause God is with me and he always been with me.
Have you ever tried searching for who you believe is your real daughter?
Yes, we talked. Yes, me and her, we talked. And my private investigator, yes, we have.
You hired a private investigator?
Yes, I sure did. He's working with my case, okay, so. So how long is they supposed to be looking for your daughter? We found her, so yeah. You found her, so why she ain't here? Why she ain't here?
So they found someone potentially could be your daughter?
'cause she feels the same way. She's messed up. She's like, what is going on here? She was like, tell me what's going on. She said, you saying that you my mother? And I said, yes.
How much do you think you spent on this private investigator?
Actually, he haven't gave me the price, but he have the— Oh man, come on now. You really making yourself sound real dumb. Okay, anyway, so—
You making yourself sound real dumb. So you don't think any of your other kids look like Andrea?
No, uh-uh.
Okay.
No, I don't.
And so how many years have you been searching For my daughter. For your real daughter.
From day one, 1987, October the 7th, when they vanished with her.
Raeleen, the woman you believe to be your real daughter may be watching right now, you told my producers. Is there something you wanted to say to her?
Yes. You know who you are and I'm looking for you and you are my daughter. You are. And I've been searching all these years years and it's like, I mean, you know, it took a toll, it have, it took a real big toll on me. I just wanna say, I want you just to try to reach out. I mean, or try to call or something. I don't even know what else to say. It's just, I'm looking for you and you know who you are. I just want my daughter to, I just want my daughter to reach out. I'm looking for you. And you know who you are. Please. Please. Please. Don't that seem crazy after you said that you found her already, she know who she is, like, what? Your daughter's right here. Your daughter's right here, man. And your daughter been here the whole time. And you gonna feel so— I just can't wait till this result and see how you feel. And how everybody feel, my family, everybody.
Everybody. Well, it's time for the DNA outcome.
Please. And when I'm done, I'm done. Don't walk away, don't walk away. I want you to hear this. You've been walking away from my life the whole time. Too long, too long. Stay right here, stay right here. Have a seat, have a seat, have a seat.
You can sit, you can sit.
Oh, I thought you said, I thought she was not the father. No, you gonna have a seat and you gonna hear these results.
All right, in this envelope is the DNA outcome. This is the truth that you all have been searching for. Brayleen, because you are the mother, I'm actually going to give this envelope to you. So this is for you to open. Please read the results out loud to us. What does it say?
It say Andrea, 15 years, biological daughter. But they, but they, but the DNA, the medical records and stuff.
So can I see?
I'm your daughter. Hold on, hold on, hold on. I'm your daughter.
So this is your biological daughter.
This is your biological daughter.
This is your biological daughter.
You got your daughter. Okay.
Oh my God. Okay, like I said, I need you to understand this is where you have to process because there was trauma that went on in your life and this girl has been searching and has been dealing with the effects of your trauma. This is your daughter. This is your daughter.
Oh my God. For real?
You come down here too. This is your sister. This is your sister. This is your sister. This is your sister. Your mother experienced a lot of trauma as a kid, and this is it. Yeah.
Thank you, Lord. Thank you. Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh, my God.
I know you're in shock.
No. Oh, my God.
You're in shock. You're in shock. You're in shock. You're in shock. You're in shock. You're in shock. You're in shock. You're in shock.
Oh, that is crazy. Come here.
I know it seems.
I know it seems.
What you're witnessing right now is her processing trauma, And it's turning into shock. And I know for us as an outside audience, it's like, how you switching up like this? What's going on? I'm explaining to you what happens mentally when somebody experiences trauma as a child and then has been telling themselves a story because they had to disassociate from the trauma and now is receiving the truth.
And—
This is your child.
And if you say you— 'Cause I'm— Oh my God.
This is your child? This is your child? This is your child.
Yes, yes, yes. We've been going through this forever. That's it. This is your child. Oh my God.
This is your child. This is your child.
Oh my God. Sorry, Andrea. Sorry. Come here. Oh my God.
I know.
No. Rape me. I was in a relationship and he raped me. And I was in a relationship. That makes sense. And he raped me.
He raped you. Okay.
Oh my God.
Okay.
Okay. Oh my God. I know you're hurt. I went through so much. Oh my God. Oh my God. It's been years. Oh my God. Let me tell you something.
Okay.
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Oh my God.
I think you got your answers.
Yeah, me too. Me too.
Okay. Okay. You got your answers. Your mother just shared with me quickly. You did. You did. The mother. Your mother just shared with me the trauma. It started to come out. —of what happened.
Oh my God.
Of what happened. She needs to share that with you backstage. She just shared the trauma of what happened. OK. Oh my God, this is real. This is not for you to fix. You continue to protect yourself, OK? But you're on a journey now. OK, you're on a journey now. You're on a journey now.
Oh my God. Oh my God.
I know. Listen, we got a lot. I'm going to walk y'all backstage. Friends, we got answers. I'm glad that you could be here. I'm glad I could be here to support y'all in this moment. There's a lot of work that has to happen after this. So I just want to tell y'all really quickly, this show, I don't know if some of y'all could hear what she said. So the man that at 16 raped her, she went into shock. That's why, and as the shock started coming out, she started processing it, it was like wailing and like, oh my gosh, because whatever trauma she went through, poor baby at 16, she ran from. And looking at this little girl was a reminder of the trauma. And so that's why she tried to reject her entire life, 'cause she didn't wanna face the trauma. Trauma, so she couldn't face this little girl. And it breaks my heart because so many families, instead of facing the trauma, it's easy for them just to push people away and say, let's move, let's move away from the trauma, let's do this. And the trauma will find you. So Lord, I wish them the best of luck. Honestly, I wish them the best of luck. Yeah. But what we're gonna do now is we're gonna make sure they get tons of aftercare. That's like the beauty of this show. So I think it's gonna work out. It's gonna work out. It's gonna work out. Samaria, tell me about your mother, you out?
Okay, when she kicked me out a few weeks, it was just, I woke up that morning, I was very tired because I always take care of my 2-year-old nephew. Like I'm always taking care of him, doing everything for him when that's her responsibility. Okay. Which I just had a deceased niece that passed, so she's real up and overprotective about him. So I woke up that morning and she walked in there, she was like, well, get up and take your nephew to school, but she's not doing nothing. So I'm like, why you couldn't do it? She didn't even say much, she just started arguing with me, yelling, then she called the police. So after she called the police, I'm like, why would you call them? Usually when she called them, she tell them I'm not supposed to be there. So I got real scared.
You said usually when she calls them. So this is a recurrent? She called them all the time. On you?
So when she called them this time, I knew she was gonna try to, oh, she not supposed to be here, send her there, send her here. But this time I had been and got put on probation. So I was real scared about her calling them. So when she called them, I just instantly started recording them because you know when, You wanna call the police? I'm gonna pull out my phone. I got my proof. I know what I done. I know I ain't did nothing wrong. So I recorded and they basically just asked me a few questions about do I live there? Do I got stuff in there? And I did. So I told 'em what happened.
So you sent my producers the video that you said you took that day. Can I see it?
All she did was kick me out this morning because I didn't wanna wake up and feed my nephew. And I got the messages. I've been living here for months. I called y'all yesterday and told y'all these things that she keep doing. Yeah, that stops today. Okay, but let me talk to the police officers right quick and unrecord me. No. Now. I don't appreciate you lying, so I'm not gonna unrecord you. I don't want this to be on social media, that's why. I'm not gonna post it. I'm just keeping it for my record if I get in trouble. Y'all come in.
Okay. So where did you end up staying when you left?
Okay, I was staying in my boyfriend's car. Oh yeah, that's my stuff. 'Cause she didn't want me home.
And let me back up. You're 18. You just turned 18, right? I just turned 18. Okay, when a lot of this was happening, you were 17?
No, this just happened. Okay. All this just happened like right before I came on the show.
Right before the show. But you said there was a, your police being called and all this stuff, so.
Yeah, like she usually called them a lot, but the only reason she started calling them was 'cause they put me on probation. After they put me on probation, she just called them every time. What were you on probation for? Okay, my mom, she be putting me out. Around the time that I was 17, when she first put me out, I had to go, sleep with a man for somewhere to go. Okay, that man, he slept with me that time and he didn't give me anywhere to go. He put me right back outside after we slept together. That made me real uncomfortable 'cause I slept with you to have somewhere to go and now I still don't have anywhere to go. So I broke his windows. But it was only because I needed this. You didn't give it to me. I gave you what you wanted. And basically after that, you know, I'm sorry. I hear you, baby.
I basically, You don't gotta tell any more of the story, I understand, I understand.
Had to find somewhere to go. And they had, like me and him got into it, he fought me.
Did your mom know about that? Why you're on probation? Did she know that's the reason?
Not really, she just know that when it came time for court and stuff, I asked her for help. I told her I didn't break the window 'cause I didn't want my mama to go against me. She always would go against me no matter what the situation is.
And where are you staying right now?
Okay, I'm like basically couch hopping. I stay here, I stay there, I stay with my cousins sometimes, but I really barely have anywhere to go because it's like every family member that I stay with, somebody who's immediate related to me, like she'll call them, "Oh, Samaria like this, she like that, she'll do this to you, she'll do that to you." When half of the time I probably wouldn't do none of that shit to them. She just wanna be messy, don't want me to have nowhere to go. And I don't appreciate that fact because I be feeling like if I'm put out, I'm your daughter, you love me, why you don't care about the fact that I don't have nowhere to go? Why you don't care about what may happen to me while nobody, you know.
When did the issues start with your family start?
It started around the time when I was 15. When I was 15, all this started happening and I had to make friends with my neighbor. I turned my neighbor from the house that we was living in, I turned my neighbor to my best friend. Like I started living with her, staying with her 'cause my mama was constantly putting me out. I was supposed to be going to school, but due to the things that I was doing at my neighbor's house, I never went to school. Like I probably barely had clothes. I didn't wanna go in no dirty clothes. I didn't wanna go with a [MASKED] headspace 'cause I'm sleeping with men at night. You know what I'm saying? I don't want like they demons on me at school, you know, different stuff going on. But basically—
So you started sleeping with those men at 15? Yeah. And my producer told me that your mom did know when you were 15 that you were sleeping with men to get by.
Yeah, she knew that.
She did know that. Okay. She knew. So the only one she didn't know about was the one when you were 17.
Yeah, she didn't know about that one 'cause she, by that time she had casted me away. She didn't really care. What was her response? She didn't have no response. I guess it's 'cause she do it too. She don't, you know what I mean?
Has your mom kicked you out before?
Yeah, she kicked me out all the time.
How many times would you say since you were 15 and moved to Detroit?
I didn't stay with my mom much. Like, I mean, I can't even say how it is living in the household with her. I can say that every time I have lived in the household with her, it wasn't comfortable 'cause it was always the next in there with me. Like, you know what I'm saying? I never had my own space. I never had my own room. Never had my own, you know what I'm saying?
Got it, I understand. I hear you. It looks like I'm getting a ping from your mom's sister, your Aunt Shalonda. Do you have an Aunt Shalonda? Mm-hmm. Let me hear what she's saying.
Karamo, I'm telling you, you got your hands full with Samaria. She is off the chain. Samaria smokes weed. She sells her body on social media. She lives from pillar to post. She goes to people's houses and try to stay. And my sister, she goes over there. She takes food for her to eat. She go to her rescue every time. Samaria is so disrespectful. She puts our business out on Facebook, whether it's the truth or a lie. Samaria has no respect for her family. Our father passed away March 24th. I did not want her at the funeral at all. Then she had the nerve to take a picture while he was laying in his casket, posted him all on social media, and started this whole chaos on Facebook. I told my sister it couldn't be me. Daughter or not, I'm not gonna let a child disrespect me the way that Samaria disrespects her mom, and I don't approve of it. Okay, for one, she need shut the fuck up. That's not how it is. Okay, so it's like, for one, I already, like she said about my granddad, that's why I really don't fuck with my family. When my granddad died, they didn't call me down to tell me that he had passed. None of that. I had to find out from my brother. I missed his body viewing because y'all didn't call me. Y'all didn't tell me nothing about it. And still to this day, I didn't get to view his body till like the funeral day. So I don't know how she gonna say I took pictures.
There have been some text exchange between you and that same aunt "I'm up. Y'all got something to eat like for me to take with me like noodles or anything, but I'm gonna need a bowl." This is you texting your aunt?
Yeah, 'cause I used to go, I used to work and I needed that for work.
You're not allowed back in my house at all. Not for a package delivery or to see my kids or if you're hungry. Okay, and how long ago was this?
This was like the other month ago. This was when my granddad died, March 24th.
Yes, March 24th. So, okay, I get your point of view. And then they, I don't like that. But I wanna ask you this. What do you want from your mom today?
What do you want to say? I want for her to understand me. I want for her to talk to me better. The way she talk to me like bitch, hoe, I don't want her doing all that 'cause I'm a bitch and hoe you right back. Like I'm gonna say the same shit to you so it's gonna forever be conflict. We gotta learn to fix the problem. And another thing, like she be calling me ugly. I don't think she know that that make me feel some type of way. Like I be feeling like that shit true. I feel like she don't love me, but that's why we here.
Okay, I get that.
It's all about making this shit better. Okay.
Well, let's see what Shawnta has to say about this situation. So everyone please welcome Welcome Shatta to the show. Hey Karamo. Hi, nice to meet you. So I gotta ask you, how do you feel about everything that was just said?
So Samaria, what we're not gonna do is sit here for the Karamo Show and tell lies. What lies though? So that we can get the proper help for you. The first thing is you're very disrespectful. Yes, I am. You don't know how to talk to me as a child. I'm your mother. You're not my mother. You're at the age of 18. That makes you partways grown, not all the way grown. As long as you in my house, there are rules to follow in my house. But I barely be in the fucking house. As long as you're in my house. I barely be in the house. There are rules in my house. You don't let me in the house. When you're there. Okay, when I'm not. Yes, I put you out and it's a reason for me putting you out. You use profanity towards me. You don't know how to talk to me. Not only that, don't you have to be on a regular though? You have this regular, not just when we're arguing, when we're going through it. You have manic behaviors to where you destroy property. I do not have to tolerate that from you. Do I have many behaviors? Because baby, I'm old school raised, you understand me? Old school. I could stand up now. If my mama look at me, she could line me up with her eyes and me and my sister get in line. You do not do that. You go word for word with me. Because you talk— And you weren't raised like that. It's the way you talk though. You go word for word. Like how you talking right now? You don't talk like that at home. That's right. But I'm not gonna use any profanity on this show, but Karamo, I do. Yeah, like bitch hoe, bitch. Me as a character, if I call her bitches, hoes, I'm just being honest with you. That's what I do. In the heat of the moment. But understand, it's only after she done did it first.
You get what I'm saying? So were you aware that your daughter was selling her body at 15?
Yes. 2023. Okay. Yeah.
The only reason I say that is because I know she's an adult now, but I wanna make sure anybody else at home that's aware, because this is my background, this is the field I worked in, you know that if any social service agency would've found that out, you would have been arrested immediately for child neglect and child abuse. I want you to know that. That's point blank. Yeah. Point blank.
So at the age of 17, since we speaking on that, I did have a case open against me.
When she was on the streets, were you able to find her like those times?
Yes, it been numerous of times Samaria have called me. She told me she was hungry, she needed to wash her clothes. When she asked me for things, if I have it, I give it.
And you barely have it. Mom, I wanna ask you something. What do you want to happen today? I want her to learn to respect.
It ain't like I'm making up a story behind her.
Everybody goes through the same thing. She's admitted that she's been disrespectful. She's admitted that she's done these things. She says she's done these things.
What's making you emotional right now? Because it's like, I don't like seeing my family cry. Everybody know I love the shit outta them. I would never do nothing to like make them upset. I don't try to make them upset. Shit that I go through that they don't listen to, they don't care about. And that's what made me upset and that's what made me rebel. Maybe if you cared, maybe if you asked, maybe if you, what you call it, if you even tried to effort, like effort, effort, like you don't put in no effort, no supporting me, none of that. And then you sitting up here on the show wanna cry, cry about respect for what?
So do you want a relationship with your daughter?
I do want a relationship with her, yes.
You do? I do. You do, and you don't believe that?
I mean, it's hard to believe.
Your daughter says something and this is real, she said, I want you to understand what I've been through, what I'm going through. Do you think that you ever take the time to really to understand what she's been through?
I have took the time out to understand her and what she goes through. Yeah. But to be honest with you, that's some fairy tale stuff.
Well, the things that we know for sure, and I'm just gonna start here and this is why I started with this. A young woman at 15, whether she thinks she's making a grown decision or not, doesn't understand her body. —and understand the men who take advantage of her young mind. Correct. And regardless of the attitude or anything else, your little baby has had those situations, and those situations are traumatic. They are. And if you've ever had anything traumatic, I know your father just passed, so you know what it is. As much as you're grieving, You get angry at times, you get frustrated at times. And I just want you to put your place in a little girl's mind that is at 15. And yes, she probably had an attitude before, so I'm not trying to pretend like I didn't think she had an attitude before. But 15, she didn't understand that. And as much as she's nodding her head, tell your mama what you've been through.
Yeah, like, and it ain't even just like, it's like I done been through a lot of stuff. Like it's a lot of stuff you didn't tell me. That I was supposed to know. You ain't never came to me and sat me down and told me how I was supposed to be as a woman or anything like that. So it's a lot of shit that men done seen me do they wasn't even supposed to see me do. So I never sat down and talked to you? The way you promote your body on social media? No. All of that, we had the conversations before then. But I'm saying the different little things that I done talked to you about, you gonna sit here and act like I never tried to come to you and talk to you about something. You don't, when you come to me and say what you're saying now, I shouldn't be doing it. That's not talking to me, understanding me. That's telling me what I shouldn't be doing. Okay, gotcha. That's authority. That's what you're doing. So you don't take no responsibility for nothing you ever done? Yes, I take responsibility. It's all my fault. I did it.
Yeah. I'm gonna tell you something. I have no control over that. I'm gonna tell you something. It's not your fault. You were a child that was trying to figure out how to survive in a world that no one prepared you for. And I'm not giving you, I'm not taking you away. This is not your fault and it also does not have to be your story.
You know what I'm saying? I appreciate it, really.
Your daughter's reaching out to the show for help and I really do appreciate you being vulnerable.
I just hope whatever we say on this stage, the resolution we taking home with us and we live that same way day by day, listening to each other and respecting each other.
So for me to encourage her to commit to not using profanity, you have to commit one thing. Is that you allow the conversations to only be between y'all. Which means your sister, your mama, anybody else can't call and do what I heard where they call her out her name, say anything. Because the thing is, is that a child against several adults, and even though y'all are just all saying what y'all gotta say, I've been in the family, I've seen it. But then it's like it's me against the world. So can you commit to having her back to saying to everybody else, I'm not gonna let them talk about you. Can you tell him?
I'm gonna commit to this. I can't say I'm gonna not have them talk about you because I can't control anyone's actions. So I'll be lying to you if I sit here and say that. Oh no, you wouldn't. But I would not let them talk about you or to you around me.
So that's good. That's the perfect commitment. So you actually did what I wanted. Because the thing is that, yeah, we know we all adults, we all got our own mouth. But when you No, they around. You say, "No, not around my daughter." Correct. And that way, if your mother's protecting you from everybody else, can you not, when you get triggered, 'cause I know you're gonna be triggered, can you say, "You know what, I'm gonna show you how smart I am. I ain't gonna cuss at you." As long as she's keeping her commitment and protecting you. Right. Can you do that?
Yeah, as long as you keeping your commitment and protecting me, I'm gonna respect you. I won't be using profanity. I find every word in the dictionary before I use a cuss word. Look at that.
All right. Look at that. Hopefully this helped a little bit. One step to help y'all going forward. That's right. All right. Good luck to y'all. All right. Thank you. Bye-bye. My guest Isaiah met his girlfriend on a Christian dating app. They just moved in together 4 months ago and she's helping him raise his child. He says they give each other the silent treatment and go to bed angry and he needs my help to move his relationship forward. So everyone, please welcome Isaiah to the show. Hey Isaiah, how are you doing today? I'm doing great, and you? I like this, give me a hug, man.
I like yours too.
Yeah, I like your outfit, that's nice.
Thank you. He's smooth, right?
I like it. So please tell me, why are you here? I'm here because me and my girlfriend been having issues. Okay. So what are some of the things that are the issues?
She's very flirtatious and it bothers me a lot. It really aggravates me.
Yeah, she's flirting with other men in front of you?
Yes, in front of me.
Give me some examples of what happens.
Okay, so we were at GameXchange and there was a guy that was a clerk ringing up everything and she walked away from me and come to find out the manager was dating the guy and they were together so she called him to the back saying, "Why are you laughing and giggling and flirting with her?" And because I called prior to that, he called my phone and told me, "You need to check her." And I was already embarrassed. So it went from there and then I brought it up to her. I was quiet to calm down. I brought it up to her. We were talking and I told her how it made me feel and she was just sitting there quiet. And then she apologized to me when we got back to the house.
Got it. So this experience kind of validated your fears of being flirted in front of and being embarrassed? Yes. I got it. Do you tell her how you feel? I do. And what does she say?
It gets to a point to where I'm tired of explaining myself without feeling like I'm getting anywhere.
Got it. I understand that. So she's flirting with other men. How does this make you feel and how does this bother you?
It bothers me because I mean, if you're gonna flirt in front of me, what would you do behind my back?
That's how I feel about that. So you started living with Marilyn when?
Well, she moved in November of last year.
Okay then, how's it been since you moved in together? It's been good actually. I mean, we argue every now and again, but Is the arguing mostly about her flirting? Yes, it is. Okay then. Is she friendly and flirty with you? We kind of stopped doing that. But you've been together for 1 year, right? Yes. 1 year and you've already stopped being flirty with each other?
Well, in the beginning everything was nice, you know, but after she started doing those things, I backed off 'cause I just felt like, I just couldn't deal with it no more.
Yeah, got it. Okay, everyone, well let's hear from Marilyn because I wanna hear her side of this story. So please welcome Marilyn to the show.
What do you mean I be flirting like this, like on some type of regular type deal? I don't flirt, I just be friendly. I don't be out there going, oh my God, and messing with my hair like I'm trying to get his attention. My tomboy side kicks out And I talk to him like if he's a homeboy. Where are you getting that from? You would do that all the time, Marilyn. No, I do not do that all the time. Yes, you do. No, I do not do that all the time. When was the last time I did it besides the one at the GameStop? What was another time before that? Whenever you were talking on the phone saying, oh, I love him, when you was talking about the boss. My boss? Yes. Yes, that's me expressing my feelings of how I like people. There's nothing wrong with that. People talk about their boss all the freaking time or anybody. It's the way you say it. Set it. Wow.
Do you feel like he's controlling?
He's controlling or imprisoning you? Yes, I feel like I'm a prisoner. That's exaggeration. That's not exaggeration. That is exaggeration. So whenever I need to go to the store, what do I have to do? I have to wait till you come home and then you don't eat all day and then you don't feel like being outside. Then you want to rush me when we get to the store, then there's traffic, then you want to hurry up and come back home. I haven't even been there. Exaggerate. Yes, you are. How is I'm exaggerating? Sometimes I work 22 hours a day. I'm tired. And so am I. I'm at home, I'm keeping the house clean. I work from home, I tend to your daughter. I'm also doing laundry, I'm doing everything and also try to remember to make sure that when you come home, you don't have to lift a finger. But I'm exaggerating? Yeah. But then when I need to go out and go do something, you tell me no, why don't you just wait till I get home? You're not, that's not true. That's not true?
What part of this is not true? Because she's saying that she's there. Is the part of her saying that she's there that she's there to support you, that she cleans the house, that she works and she does your daughter. Are those things true?
Yeah, those things are true.
So when she says that you, she's saying that you don't want her to leave the house, you're saying that is the part that's not true?
I'm not gonna say it's not entirely true because I don't trust her.
Okay, so you don't trust her? No, I don't.
So you do say to her, "You can't leave the house." No, I don't say, "You can't leave the house." I say, "I'm not comfortable with you leaving the house." I don't say you can't. So what's the difference? What's the difference? Okay. So telling me to wait till you get home and then I don't go, that's still telling me not to leave the house. And another thing, I don't want her going anywhere else with my daughter.
Can I ask you a question? Yeah. Why don't you trust her?
Because of the flirting. And that brings me to another situation where I went out with his sister and he was like, a man shouldn't think about if his girlfriend's gonna be out flirting. But if I apologize or if I didn't notice that I did something and you brought it to my attention, That's my opinion. Yeah, but you can't apologize and keep repeating the same pattern.
You said before, Marilyn, that he's like this because of his last relationship. Yes. Were you cheated on before?
Me? I was. And so have I. I've been through bad relationships too, but I don't treat him as he is the one who was the one doing the damage. I treat him as such. I talk to him as such. I express things to him as such. I deal with him as such. How's the intimacy between you two? There isn't any. There's no intimacy? We've been together, living together for a year, and we have not We have not had sex at all.
So 1 year of no intimacy.
1 year of no intimacy. Why haven't you called it quits? 'Cause I feel like there's hope.
I see the toxicity between you all, but it also here is like it's based in trust issues. Yes.
Where do your trust issues come from? My daughter's mom date raped me at a party.
Hold on, so your daughter's mother date raped you? Yes. So that means you didn't know about your daughter?
No, I found out when I got some papers in the mail from the OG office telling me to take a paternity test on my birthday.
Okay, so if you don't mind explaining this to me, 'cause I know this is probably shocking for a lot of y'all, because when we hear things about like date rape, it's usually women being raped by men. We often don't get the stories of men being told. So what happened to you? Can you start from the beginning?
Yeah, so I came back from El Paso because I was doing like FEMA disaster relief, helping people. On social media, there was a party and I went to the party and she ended up killing my drinks and I woke up in the hospital.
And what happened when you woke up in the hospital?
They told me that I got date raped. I just had, I had an oxygen machine on, my stomach was being pumped and the thing they put on your finger was on me, so.
What confirmed it for you that this happened? It was when you got those results that this was your daughter? Yes. Because now you felt this way, you're at the hospital, and then you find out later that you have a daughter. Yes. That you didn't know about because you can't even remember having sex. Yes. Okay, and so what happened when you got that letter in the mail?
I yelled because I said I didn't know what was going on. It was confusing. So on the letter had my daughter's mom and mine's under it, and at the top it just said OAG office. So when I read it, they were telling me that do a DNA test and she got the date purposely on my 27th birthday. The kicker is I walk in my house and all my stuff is stolen and gone.
Okay, how old was your daughter when you met her? 2. So you met her daughter at 2?
Yeah, the mother wouldn't let me see her.
And you now have custody of your daughter?
Yes, and I fought very, very hard. I spent over $20,000 and I got primary custody.
So. I appreciate you sharing this with me. Did you know about this?
He told me a little bit about it, to be honest with you.
Did you know all these details?
Not all. 'Cause I'm not a type of pride. I let you tell what you feel comfortable about, so.
Why haven't you opened up to Marilyn about what you know? What you've been through?
'Cause we've been going through a lot and it makes me emotional talking about that. Yeah. Because not seeing your child for so long can do something to you. I had to go to counseling, you know? And I needed help, so I went to go get help.
Yeah. I couldn't deal with it. This has been a year now of you still trying to process these emotions. And y'all are trying to build a relationship. Is Marilyn your first serious relationship? Yes. Got it. Did you know you were his first serious relationship? No. You didn't know that either? Talk to your lady, she's right here.
You, I've always told you, you deserve love, peace, and everything I've never gotten and everything you've never gotten. And I've always told you, that you are allowed to feel how you feel. And I always wanna be a safe haven for you to express how you feel, no matter how you feel. I'm not fighting you, I'm fighting the world with you. And I want you to know that. I don't want you to fall in love with me, I want you to be in love with me.
Isaiah, what do you wanna say to her?
Can you just honestly tell me how do I treat you? You fix my dinner when no man has never done that. You light candles for me to take a bath every night. You play with me, we watch wrestling. You are a great dad that I wish I had. And every day when I have a bad day at work or get cussed out, I think of you laughing, I think of you being happy, when we're at home just playing and clowning around and it's just me and you. I don't get that from nobody. And that is precious to me. You can't put money on it. You can't give anything to get that.
Isaiah. Thank you. Why don't you open up to her more about these things? 'Cause she just said, here you go, I'll give you like this. She didn't know a lot of the details of what you've been through. Why aren't you willing to open up to her?
I backed off when I told her I was feeling a certain way of things that she was doing. And it was just bottling everything else that happened. And I didn't know how to tell her. And I felt like it was too early in the relationship to tell her. I just wanted to move slower so I don't fall in the traps that my father put my mother through.
Got it. Okay. So there's even deeper stuff here. Yes. You saw this witness in your home of your father doing things to your mother. Yes. So you're putting up a wall. Did you know he was putting up a wall? Yes. You could feel it? Yep. Do you love her?
I do actually, I just haven't told her.
Tell her right now. I do love you, I just—
It's hard for me to express that. And then what I was telling her about the whole flirting thing, it kind of made me just back up a little bit.
I have to be honest with you right now. I could tell you this. I actually don't believe she's flirting. I believe the trauma that you've been through and the experiences you've had is keeping you on high guard, which I fully understand. But it doesn't sound like she's cheating on you. It sounds like she's there at the house and she wants to be there for you. I would suggest that if you really do love her, you gotta start letting her in and you have to stop looking for something that's going to make you think she's doing wrong.
What is it that we can work on?
What is it? There's nothing you, in this moment, you need to do. This is him. This is him. 'Cause this is, that's where your experience of the trauma of you having not someone who supported you, makes you think that you have to fix it. This is an opportunity where you showed up for him and I've seen it. He needs to show up for you now 'cause you deserve someone to prove to you they love you as well. You feel that? So can you open up to her? I can. Can you look at her right now and just tell her, "I love you"?
I love you. I love you too.
Give your girl a hug. You've been through a lot. You've been through a lot and you've been through a lot as well. And you found each other in a moment where both of you are trying to grow into something better. But both of you have to do the opposite of what you were doing before. You have to stop people pleasing and you have to start expressing yourself. This is where you start to understand your value and start to say, okay, you know what? There is a man, 'cause you just kept saying it, there's a woman for you and I'm here and I'm doing this. There's a man for you if he can't do it. Do you wanna be in this relationship? I do. Why?
Because I care about her.
She's clearly stepping up and showing you that she wants to be there for you and your daughter. Let her in. You can't project that fear onto her. And if you feel like you're projecting that fear onto her, I'm gonna tell you the best thing you can do is get back to that counseling. But you can't, you don't have the authority to drag her through that. Does that make sense? So what do you think you can do from here on out? Communicate more. Yeah, say it to her. Oh, communicate. Tell her. You gonna communicate? What else you gonna do?
Patient with me. I'm not perfect. I want, we said we're in a learning status. Learn with me. Learn about me just like you want me to learn about you. How do you feel right now? Better than I did.
You did before? I said a lot of stuff that I don't really tell everybody, so. Well, I appreciate it. I'm glad that you felt safe enough with me to tell me. I really do. I feel honored by that. I appreciate it too. Yeah, I appreciate you. And I'm glad that I could I'm trying to give y'all a little bit of advice to make y'all move forward in a positive direction. But at the same rate, if this pattern continues and you see 3 months down the line, the wall's still up with him or you're still people pleasing, because if the wall's still up and you can't communicate, say, you know what, let me end this before you start to trigger yourself and trigger your daughter. And for you, the same thing. If this is not getting better, have the courage to end it, okay? But I actually believe that this is a major first step and I think y'all can conquer the world together. Welcome back everyone. Imagine feeling sick and then waking up in the hospital to learn you've been in a coma for over a month and everything is gone. Your home is gone, your car is gone, and all of your belongings are gone. And your kids have been homeless for over 30 days. My next guest, Patsy, says that's exactly what happened to her last year. And the person responsible for losing everything was her own daughter. Everyone, please welcome Patsy to the show.
Hello.
Okay, Patsy, thank you for being here. I have to hear from you what happened when you were in the hospital because just getting those facts from my producers, it was jarring to me.
I was in a coma for a whole month. I did not get out. Then when I got out, everything was gone. My car was repoed, all of my furniture was in storage, and I was homeless for those 6 months. 7 months.
Oh my gosh. How did you find out that you had lost everything?
I wasn't aware of anything that was going on while I was in the coma.
And who was the one who told you? My daughter. And how did you learn that your other children were homeless?
When I got out the hospital. They were living from house to house.
Why would your daughter make you homeless and make your other kids homeless? That's her siblings, right? Yes. So why would she want her siblings to be homeless and why would she wanna do these things to you? 'Cause she only thinks about herself.
She's very selfish.
What has she done in the past? A lot.
Let me give you an example. My daughter had a BBL. I took care of her and nursed her back to health. Okay. When I came out this coma, I wanted the same love that I show my daughter. Is this your oldest child? Yes, she's my oldest.
Okay, so what did she say when, you came outta coma and you asked her about your other kids and why you were homeless?
When I came out the coma, I didn't know that I was homeless. Her plans were to go to Dallas to move all of my things out.
So then where did you stay after you got out the hospital?
After the hospital, I really wanted to stay with my daughter because I felt like that's where I wanted to be, with her. But I stayed with everybody else. Me and my kids. Did your daughter not let you stay with her? When I did come, it wasn't sincere.
So she eventually let you stay with her after you had to float around from place to place?
Alone, it took forever. But the whole time that I was in this coma, when I got out the hospital, my daughter had her own house, her own car, her own job, and everything. Everything going for herself. And I just wanted my daughter to take care of me the way I take care of her.
So how were things when you were living with your daughter?
So it became to the point she told me get out. So I packed me and my other kids and now by the grace of God, I have my own house.
So I want you to tell me about your daughter Alexis.
I describe her as a person that she's out for herself. She not loving. She don't help me. The whole time that I was in the hospital, I wanted my kids to be there. I wanted the ones that I loved and raised to be there.
And how old is your oldest daughter? How old is Alexis?
She just turned 23 this year.
I can only imagine what you're going through as a mother. And I think it's time to meet Alexis. So everyone, please welcome Alexis, your daughter, to the show. Well, don't boo her, we haven't heard her side of the story. Alexis, how are you doing today? I'm good, how are you? I'm good, thank you. So I need to know from you what happened when your mother was in a coma last year, 'cause we just heard a whole lot from her point of view.
For her to say that I was never there, I was. When we got there, I had to make legal decisions. They were saying that, you know, she passed away and they brought her back again, and that they had to do like procedures and surgeries and stuff, and it was up to me 'cause I'm the oldest. I'm sorry. And so, for me, for her to say that, that just really hurts my feelings because Like to be in that position and try to figure out what to do.
This is your mother in the hospital?
Yeah. That was when I went to see her. Got it. Oh, Mama.
'Cause you were 22 at the time of this?
Yeah, I was 22. I had just recovered from a bad car accident. Then my mom got sick a week later, so It's just a lot of stuff was going on during this time.
Why does your mom think that you're the one to blame for losing her other children?
Because she always blames me for a lot of stuff.
And for losing everything, 'cause she blames you for losing her apartment, for losing her car, for the kids being separated. Why do you think she blames you for losing everything?
I just don't think she considers it from a different perspective. Like for instance, her apartment, And I was told by a sibling that, "Oh, Mom has to be outta here by a certain time. Her lease is about to be up." So I used money that I had to get a U-Haul and get her stuff and put it in a storage. But that happened way after the fact, later on. So my brothers and sisters were still at the house. The lights were on, the water. I made sure they had groceries. I just didn't want them to see my mom like that every day. But I went to the hospital every day to see her. And they only let me see her for 30 minutes because she was in intensive care. But I was there and she doesn't understand that that still messes with me.
So when it comes to the apartment, you are in a space where you're like trying to be proactive. Yes. You're thinking they're about to kick her out, so let me try to make the decision to get her stuff into storage. Yes. Is that what you're saying to me?
Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.
And then what happened with the car?
And then for the car, she was upset because I didn't pay her bills, but I didn't know where she bought her car, where her car insurance was with. I didn't have any of that information.
Hold on, I wanna get my audience's opinion on this. So what's your opinion on all this? I mean, I'm gonna ask you, do you think your daughter was supposed to take care of you and the kids? I would've did it for her. Your daughter's 23 years old, or 22 at the time. What capabilities does a 22-year-old have? I'm telling you, at 22 years old, for me, I don't know if I would've had the capacity if I would've saw my mother in the state that I saw you in, be able to make clear decisions. Do you see her side on that?
I feel you on that.
Come on down. You look great. This girl was 22.
She was being the mother to your kids. She was providing for them financially and also make life decisions for you. Like, don't you think you're expecting way too much of her? Maybe you feel that way. I don't feel that way. She was doing the best that she could. You didn't see that? I never said it. I appreciate everything she did.
All right. I mean, because there's a bit of a different thing here that I'm seeing. It's like one moment it's like my daughter didn't do enough, but then you said that you do appreciate what she did. I've never told her I didn't.
Okay. I didn't help her get her house that she have, but I did turn around and give her one of my old vehicles. And yeah, it may not be the best vehicle and it may be beat up, up. She did help me with one payment and then she sent some money towards it. And I ended up, when I saved up enough money— Girl, you sitting up here lying. The devil gonna see all through that, baby, 'cause you're lying about it. You sitting here holding the title while you talk about the money. I care that materialistic like you say, but some things you do to me as your mother, what do I do? It's not right. What did I do to you? I'm waiting. I want to hear this. When I came home on the 21st, was you there? No. Did you go to any of my 5 appointments for 5 months? Were you there? No. Wasn't me and your sisters and brothers living house to house? How is that my fault when I told you that they can move up? Wouldn't you say, okay, Mom, I'm gonna take care of you? If I loved y'all, you feel like I'm obligated to take care of y'all. Take care of me, shit. No, no, no. Take care of me. No, I'm not supposed to do that, that's not my job. When it comes to mom and dad, That's not my job. You're not understanding, that's not my job. I wanted to live my own life and still have babies. Running away? I already knew that when you went. Some of the things she doing is not how I raised her. Some of the things she doing, some of the things she say towards me, I have always been there. I have always loved her.
I go to the moon and beg for her. What is it that she says?
What do I say to you? That hurts you. You don't say, it's a lot of stuff you say. Well, 'cause I can name some of the stuff you say to me that has stuck with me. Well, name 'em. Okay, for instance, I opened up to her and I had told her why I was so depressed as a kid and things that happened in my life. And she, I'm scared to say this, I had almost got the R word And then I told her when I was younger. You never told me that. Yes, I did. No, you didn't. I was 17 years old. I was a junior in high school.
I want you to look at this. Your daughter is being vulnerable right now. She didn't tell me that.
But that's not all. If she had told me that, trust and believe a lot of things that I've taught my kids would've been different.
But she told you right now. And I got, as a third party, I got to witness your behavior in this moment.
I don't remember this.
So, Patsy, what I'm gonna say to you, Why is it?
Why?
Patsy, what I'm gonna say to you is you gotta do some self-reflection. Do you want to have a better relationship with your daughter?
She don't want none with me.
My question wasn't what she wants. My question was what do you want? Sure. Patsy, what are you thinking about?
I'm done.
I know that hurts. Listen, you have to start grieving the fact that your mother's not gonna be able to give you what you deserve. And I know that sounds weird to say, like, I gotta grieve that my mother can't be a mother for me? The answer is yes. Because I can see you trying to make strides to get yourself a better life, but you're always gonna be held back and always gonna be sucked back in because your mother has this sort of hold on you because you're still believing that she can give you to give you what you deserve. And unfortunately, she's not in the place yet. So you have to continue to do what you have to do to continue to have your life. You hear me? You did not deserve this relationship with your mother. You didn't deserve it. She's coming back? What does she wanna say? What's her thoughts? Now, Patsy, before you come out here, I'm gonna ask you one question. Are you willing to open up and accept what your daughter said? Yes. You are? Because if you're not willing to it, I'm not gonna be able to have you come back out.
Yeah, I'mma open up. Okay.
Come on back out then. So what can you open up with your daughter with right now?
That I cannot take away nothing, that whatever I've ever done to you, I want you to forgive me because I have loved you since birth. I am so proud of you. Whatever I did, I did to make you stronger so you won't have to depend on nobody but yourself in life. I love you. I don't never want you to think your mama don't love you. You all I have. I don't have my kids' daddy no more. I barely, I do for my mama. You feel me? I go out the way for my mama. So if I ever hurted you, I'm asking you this one time, will you please forgive me? I can't change the past, I only can look forward to our future. Ma, I can forgive you, but what makes this time different? Like, you done said this before and you still haven't changed. All right, well, I don't know. I'm telling you that I'm asking for your forgiveness.
So you brought her here and you're talking about all the things that happened once she was there. Can you acknowledge that your daughter did not intentionally try to get rid of your car and get rid of your apartment?
I don't know. She's young, so she didn't know what to do. I thank her for what she did do. She didn't know what to do.
So can you acknowledge that your daughter did not intentionally try to—
Intentionally get rid of my car? I acknowledged it.
And can you acknowledge that your daughter did not intentionally try to have your other children homeless? This is why I said before, Ms. Patsy, there needs to be some self-reflection.
I can't acknowledge that one because like I said, when I got out the hospital, my daughter went on about her way.
You're not gonna let this go. So what I'm gonna say to you again is that the only way this is gonna work for you is that you're gonna have to do some self-reflection because the apology that you came out here with, unfortunately for me, was performative. That's why I said to you, you're gonna have to grieve that right now she's not able to acknowledge and give you what you need. Your daughter is a child in the situation and as much as you have expectations for her of what she should have done, at the end of the day, the only thing that she was supposed to do to do is be by your side and say, "I love you, Mom," and wish that you were alive. She didn't have to, unless you left some directive around, that's why wills, that's why trust, those things are enacted so that she could know exactly what to do. Unless you do that, a 22-year-old should never have that pressure on her. You gotta keep doing what you gotta do, all right? You have to grieve, you have to grieve. But as you're grieving, you have to know that you do deserve a life where people see you for what you've done and that you know that you're of value. You understand? Okay, so take me back.
How did you two meet? I met him at like a convenience store. Okay. He was in front of me.
And how was the relationship in the beginning? Amazing. Amazing. Okay. And how long y'all been together? Or were together, excuse me. For about a year. For a year. And for the year it was good. The communication was good, things were good. Everything was good. What happened?
I ended up getting pregnant and I had a miscarriage and I think that's kind of what steered us away from each other.
Okay. I heard my producer told me when I was coming out here that before you two both got with each other, there was some things going on in both of your lives that were traumatic. Yes. Tell me about that.
What was happening? My kid's dad, he got killed in 2020. I'm so sorry. Yeah, and then he lost his son in 2019.
Got it, okay. So both of you were grieving at the time. Yeah. And were you supporting each other through that grief? Absolutely. Understand. Was he a positive influence in your life? Yes. Yeah, in every way, that's good. And how did you find out that he cheated on you? Because that's what the breaking point was, right? Yes.
I was uploading videos on Facebook of me and him. First it was like a post I made about him of him and somebody laughed at it. It wasn't even a laughable post. Okay. And then when I uploaded the video of me and him together, that's when she laughed again. Oh. So I inboxed her. I'm like, hey, what's going on? You keep laughing at my posts. Are you like messing with him or what? Yeah. She was like, yeah, we've been dating for a while. She was like, she went outta town and that's why me and him were like, you know, back together or, you know, she was like, the bed you're sleeping on, that's my bed. I'm like, wow.
And this is after you spent a year and you'd also had this miscarriage? Yes. So there was, this is a shock because you think you're building a future with someone. Was he there for you during your pregnancy?
With Halo? Yes. No, he was in that relationship with that girl. Got it.
So why doesn't he believe he's the father?
I think it's people in his head. Okay. Because we have like a huge age difference. Okay. And people tell him all the time, they're like, you know, she's a young girl, she's doing this, she's doing that. And I wasn't doing anything.
What's the age difference?
I'm 30 and he's 47.
So about 17-year age difference. Okay. And what did his family say when you contacted them?
I contacted his mom because I'm like, you know, nobody's calling to see her, nobody's trying to see her. I gotta see her, what's going on? So I inboxed her and was like, hey, this is Halo. I was like, this is Sharif's daughter. And she was like, oh, okay. She was like, I would be interested if you get a DNA test. I'm like, okay, that's cool. But then I'm gonna have to pay for the DNA test. I'm not paying for a DNA test when I know he's the dad.
You know? Got it. Has he been in her life at all since she was born?
In Halo's life? Like in and out.
In and out? Yeah. And during that time, has he helped financially?
On her first birthday was the first time he had done something. Okay. Yeah. What did he do? He got her like this big unicorn balloon and a cake.
Okay. Yeah. So why won't you let him watch your daughter?
He just, he has things going on personally that I just, I can't have her around that.
Got it. Okay. I know that we heard earlier, 'cause I asked about the beginning of your relationship, that you two met when you were both grieving. So Brittany was there for you while you were grieving your son? Tell me about that time. No. She wasn't there for you? No. Oh, okay.
Why is my name right there then? 'Cause you told me I got you through something. No, that's not what you told me. And that's why you tatted my name. No, I said— So what did I get you through? If not everything that you were going through. I took on your emotional trauma while I was dealing with something myself and I got you better while I wasn't even better. You can't be for real.
What was it that you needed at that time that you feel like she didn't give?
Excuse me.
I understand. This, to think about and go back to that moment, I understand where this is coming from. Okay. I have a son. He's 21 years old. He was a junior at Purdue. He killed himself.
Took his life.
It was the most hardest thing I've ever had to deal with in my life. And I've dealt with a lot, but watching my son go in the ground. Got it, I understand, I understand. So there was, you're both, I get the sense that you're both going through a lot during that moment and you're still grieving in that moment from that. With Halo, what is it that making you think that this is not your child? Just the way she acts towards me when I would ask her about certain things. Like she being, I know at the age of the internet and social media. So like you may have somebody from 10 years ago come contact you with a little heart. Now I don't know who this guy is. I don't know who this person is. Her, "It's nobody." You ain't never seen me do that.
Don't play. What? You've had way more relationships. I've had nobody since you. How many have you had? At least 2 every month. You can't be for real. That's not true. That's not true. You had a whole girlfriend. The woman that you brought here is not even the girl that I thought was your girlfriend. I ain't never seen this woman in my life. So hold on.
My producer tell me right now, Sharif, we have, so she's not your girlfriend. Kaylee is your name? Yes. Hi. Hi Kaylee. Nice to meet you. Thank you for being here. So I'm gonna ask you really quickly because this would giving insight to more of their relationship. How long have you two been together?
We're not together. That is a very, very, very close friend of mine. How close? Like how long y'all known each other? Had to just meet. I ain't never heard your name before, ever. He just had a girlfriend. You don't need to know me. I should know you. I'm not for you. I should. I'm not here for you. I'm here for him. I should. Here for him for what? What do you do? I'm his friend. Because he just had all his stuff at my house. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. What are you talking about? I know his stuff is at your house. It doesn't matter. Yeah, for what? Don't touch his stuff. I don't understand that. It doesn't matter. It does not matter. I'm here for him. I'm his friend. You've done nothing. I don't care. You can say nothing. Just shut up. Have your five minutes. Say nothing. Have your five minutes. Because if I get up, I'm a sweat. Don't try to do anything. So what do you think is going to happen? Show yourself. Show yourself. Stop, Stop. Stop. Try me.
Clean. What you need to understand is that what's triggering you about that is that you want answers. And so when you have individuals that make you feel as if you don't have answers or if they know more than you, it's going to change. I understand. But I need you to understand that that's what's triggering you and that type of behavior is never going to ever help you to get the answers you need. If you were to slap her, if you were to do something, it's never gonna help you to get the answers you need. What you're looking for is your own security. And I understand and I watched in this moment how this woman who's brand new to his life triggered you. I get it. Brand new, I get it.
Brand new. Still got the tag on, girl, please.
I get it, I get it. But you can't—
You've known him for 1 year longer than me.
You can't let anybody else trigger you or trigger your security. Yes. No, seriously.
I know, 'cause I can meet her in Indianapolis. It wouldn't make no sense for me to come.
That's not cool. Do the two of you have another child together or is this the only child?
Only child.
Only child. No. Yes. No. Yes. This is what causes us to be where we're at in life. Yes. Okay.
Only child that I'm gonna talk about.
Okay, okay.
That's not fair. It is very fair. No, it's not. It is. It's not fair that you left me the entire time. I did. Not only did— okay, so, yeah. Brittany, you take November like you took November. I had another baby in November by this crazy man. Yeah. I'm crazy, man. A whole 'nother baby. Mm-hmm. Okay. That I decided not to keep. And do you know how hard that was? Yeah, I can imagine.
For me to give away a whole human being. You were gone almost full term. You was ready to have it. I told you it was gonna be a boy, you know what I mean? You had him, you said on November, right? You told me that the baby died and died. This is the thing about her. I did. She said the baby died with his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.
Oh, I was not that dramatic. Now you adding shit. Don't play, don't play, 'cause I ain't do that. I said the baby passed away and I didn't wanna talk about it no more. That's what I said.
And I might hate you for the rest of my life, for real, because you knew, you knew. Why would you tell him that the baby was dead though?
To be honest, I wanted him to be hurt. And you did that, you did that, you know. I wanted his feelings to be hurt. I just wanted him to feel something, 'cause I never feel like he feels anything. Feels anything. And I'm always the one just feeling some stuff, like feeling hurt, feeling wrong.
She wanted him to feel what you're feeling.
I did, I did. And I apologize to him for that. And I know that's never gonna be enough. You know, apology is not enough. I understand that. And I understand what I did was wrong. And it was very wrong. And I'm sorry. But I did, I wanted to punish him.
Got it. All right, well I think, 'cause I'm hearing a lot about the trauma and the things that have compounded to get us to this place right here. Here, but I think the one thing that you need is an answer about Halo so that at least now you can have the DNA truth about that. And then once you have that, we understand where you're gonna be moving forward towards. Yes. So are you both ready for this truth? Yes. Yeah. Because this is a year in the making of you saying that he is the father, that this is the father, and you have been confused for, Oh yeah. If this could be your child or not.
My baby looks like her daddy is 47 years old. Like she does, y'all. She does. Like, come on. Well listen.
And I don't look 47. No, you don't. You know what I mean? Come on. All right, listen. You're looking good. Well, here goes the DNA truth. It's for your truth to open. If you could read it out loud.
You are not the man I thought you was gonna be, but you Halo's father. Okay. Okay. Mm-hmm. Thank you. What that say? It. Thank you.
So what are your thoughts right now? She's so dramatic. Mm-hmm. But my daughter, now that I noticed my daughter, she's the same way. When I come in the room, She, you know, means laughing and smiling. She loves her daddy, she do. So, you know what I mean? So are you gonna now, from the question she had before, do more for the child? Do more to support? She know I will. I got a couple issues that I'm dealing with to get, you know, financially back set like I was before. And once I get there, whatever, anything I could do, you know what I mean? Like I said, watching her doing other stuff like that. I'm gonna try. Whether she feel comfortable or not, you know, we'll work through that. You know, we may ask you for help. The one thing is she's saying is she needs you to tell your family. Will you let them know that, you know, that this is your daughter? Yes. Okay. That's one of the things you're asking for so that you can get more support from his family, correct? Yes. I really wanna encourage y'all now that y'all have this truth, if I can give y'all advice, I'm glad you got your answers. I'm glad you both had that answer. Answers, I really wanna encourage y'all to stop sleeping together. I really do. I really do. Because you two are both hurting and are grieving still and there's so much going on. And what is— Maybe one last time? No more, no more, no more. There's a lot happening right here and unfortunately this This relationship could have been something where you two could have helped each other maybe, but it has turned destructive and toxic in every way. And it breaks my heart because neither of you deserve that. Both of you should be right now healing. Both of you should be right now. I see your eyes tearing up. What's going on in your head?
I just know I gotta let him go. Like in that way, you know, like relationship. I gotta get that outta my mind. They're like the person I thought I was gonna be with. It's just, that's not it.
[Speaker] It's not, it's not. And that's why I'm saying you gotta stop sleeping together. See, I appreciate this, what you're doing right here because like I said again, it's easy for us to see all that strength and bravado you were showing. I know that's not the real you. That's a woman that has had to come up so that you can protect yourself from a world that you have felt like he's always gonna come after you. I know it, I know it. And that breaks my heart for you. It breaks my heart for both of you. But at least you can acknowledge that you don't need to be together and you can start grieving this relationship because it's not healthy and both of y'all know that. Both of y'all know that. But what y'all can do is by letting each other go in this way, give Halo an opportunity to not have to take on y'all's trauma. Yes. You know, you named her Halo. Let her be an angel here on earth for both of y'all. Mm-hmm. You know? So I wish y'all the best of luck. What I do wanna offer y'all is therapy if you want that. Would you like that? Sure. You would? Would you like that? Because I know we only have a small amount of time on this stage, but I wanna make sure that if you leave this stage, you have a resource to be able to get you somebody to talk to because y'all both need it and you both deserve it. Because what y'all been through, losing a man, the father of your children, you losing your son, these things, even your second child, I understand what's going on and the support and the lack of support The things that are happening and y'all just need somebody to talk to to start healing. And so I'm glad you can both accept that offer. I wish y'all the best of luck. If you need anything, me and my staff are here as a resource for you, okay? I wish you the best, all right? Both of y'all. Mm-hmm.
