My Best Friend Is NOW Gay-ish & Her New Boo Got An ISSUE With Me! | KARAMO

In this episode of The Karamo Show, host Karamo mediates a heated conflict between longtime friends India and Lanaya, whose friendship has deteriorated after Lanaya entered a new romantic relationship. India, an ally to Lanaya’s emerging queer identity, recounts how Lanaya’s girlfriend began harassing her, leading to tension. A social‑media post by Lanaya’s girlfriend accusing India of abandoning the friendship escalated the dispute, and a misunderstanding about a misplaced car title further eroded trust. Lanaya’s sister Ny'Asia is brought in, expressing frustration at being caught in the middle. Throughout the dialogue, Karamo highlights patterns of ultimatums, boundary violations, and miscommunication, urging both parties to cease extreme statements, respect each other's families, and rebuild trust. The episode concludes with mutual apologies, a promise to maintain the friendship, and Karamo’s advice on sustaining long‑term friendships through clear boundaries and avoiding ultimatums.

Why did you stop talking to your best friend?
Okay, so this year I guess she, you know, discovered a new part of her sexuality this year. I'm an ally, so I don't really have an issue about that. The problem was the girlfriend had an issue with me. And so she was like always like harassing me. But me and my best friend have been best friends since we were in 9th grade. Her family took me in when I was a teenager. Like, they're my support system.
Yeah.
Like, really.
So this is bigger than just a friendship. Yeah. 'Cause they mean a lot to you. Mm-hmm. What was the breaking point of your relationship?
I basically like kind of vented to her about how I was feeling about it and it just kind of got out of hand. And then by the end of the conversation, it was, she basically felt like, I was cutting her off. Honestly, it was at a point where everybody around her was kind of like, you know.
Ended.
Yes, like, and you know, hearing a whole bunch of different voices at once can be overwhelming. So I was like the one friend who was like still trying with the girlfriend and stuff too. So like, I feel like once it got to me saying like, you know, like I can't be around while y'all, while this is happening, 'cause it hurts me to see you. Be in a toxic relationship. So.
You're like my best friend Trey. Trey has seen me get with some people and he like, girl, really? And everybody else is like, dump him, dump him. But Trey's like, I'm gonna still try to see the positive. You love her. But then at the point when he's like, no more, he's like you. He's like, I gotta tell you.
Yes, yes.
And what I appreciate about those type of friendships is, you know, when those people come, you know they have tried, you know they have been there. They weren't just being messy. They're like, okay, no, at this point.
Because it's your life at the end of the day. I want you to live your life. I want you to learn yourself. I want love too. But I don't want it to be with someone who's causing friction with not only me, but your sister too. Like everybody around us.
Well, my producer said that she put something on social media. What was it?
Yes, by the end of the phone call, she like, if you don't fuck me.
I hate a bitch that try to stay in the family. Bitch, take your ass on.
I know I shouldn't be laughing, but it's like, fuck. It's just crazy.
It is crazy, yeah.
It was crazy 'cause when I seen it, I was like, Like what? Like we call each other like, Bitch. Like we call, we have a nickname for each other. Like we do this when we see each other. We've been doing this before everybody else was doing it though. But like, I don't know, we're just really close. And so when I seen that, we've argued before, we're best friends, but we've never taken it to the socials. So, and I understand why she took it as everyone being against her and me too. Like she was like, if you don't fuck with me, then you don't fuck with my sister, you don't fuck with my family, like you don't fuck with nobody basically.
And that has to be hard because you said these people took you in. So like you have a real bond. It's not just like, don't talk to my family and I don't really know them anyway.
I love her mom, I love everyone in her family. Like I love her whole family.
Have you remained close with her family?
Just outta respect for her, I just haven't. But me and her sister have, like her little sister's like my little sister.
Oh good. How often do you see her little sister?
Like almost every week.
Every week, okay.
Every Sunday we watch Baddies.
So. You watch baddies all the time? Every weekend.
And we cook dinner and stuff. It's like our ratchet TV hours.
Yeah, that sounds like a good time. What you cooking?
Whatever.
Cooking about the little baddies, all right. So how does she feel about you hanging out with her sister?
I honestly don't know. I really don't think that she feels any animosity about it. Honestly, I feel like maybe she feels left out, which I would too. I would feel left out too if it was her and my little sisters, 'cause she's cool with my little sisters also.
Well, I think it's time to meet your ex-best friend, Lanaya. So everyone please welcome Lanaya to the show. Hi, Lanaya.
Hi, Karamo.
How are you doing? Thank you for being here. So what do you wanna say to India right now?
So yeah, I did put that post up 'cause I was hurt. You telling me you don't wanna be my friend after all we've been through? We was already not friends for what, almost a year? And then you telling me you don't wanna be my friend again? I was hurt.
We had rekindled our friendship after the one year we didn't talk. And then we've been good for like 3 years and then like this—
Got it. Relationship.
Her girlfriend came around basically.
Do you think you chose your girlfriend over your best friend?
No, I don't.
I honestly feel like Listen, you can't help it, they judgmental, okay? It's my fault they messy and judgmental. It's my fault.
I honestly feel like she feel like I didn't show her as much attention as I used to. I just feel like she feel like I pushed her to the side, which that wasn't the case. Like I was in a relationship. Like of course I wouldn't talk to you every day or see you as much because I'm with somebody right now. Like you can't get all my time. Everybody gotta, balance it out.
Yeah, I get that. So what broke your friendship in your point of view?
I just feel like India let people get in her head about me. I feel like she let other people's opinions deteriorate our friendship.
'Cause my producer said, did she accuse you of something?
Oh yeah, she thought I threw her title in the trash, which I would never do nothing like that to her.
Oh, okay. Did he find the title?
No, well, she found the title for me. I had, the reason I thought that—
Oh, you found it?
Yes, the reason I thought, 'cause she threw my title.
No, it was never lost. Lost, like it was just misplaced 'cause I was in the middle of moving and things was just everywhere so I couldn't find it, but I was still looking for it. And then my sister had told me, she was like, yeah, India basically was like, she made it seem like you would throw her title away. Like, and that hurt me even more. So after I heard that, I blocked her on everything. Like I don't want nothing to do with her.
To be throwing away a car title. Yeah, I feel like.
Yeah, 'cause like I feel like, yeah, I feel like you playing with my character. Like why would I, why would I throw your title away?
So for you, and this is after you all had ended the friendship.
Yes.
This is why you're still with your girl. So she had the conversation with you, you felt hurt, y'all decided to separate, and then you also find out she's saying that you threw away the title.
Yes.
The car title. Okay. Have you let your relationships come between y'all in the past?
No, I don't even really be in relationships like that, honestly. And if I do, it's like, it's really nothing, honestly.
So what was the issue that had y'all stop talking for 1 year?
Well, we had an altercation.
People were talking crazy to me because they see you talk crazy to me.
Oh.
So.
Do you talk bad about her when she wasn't around?
No, I don't talk bad about none of my friends, none of my people.
You felt like she did though. You felt like she didn't protect you 'cause you said when that year was up, you felt like she's talked, she said stuff about you that was messy and then it gave other people permission to talk bad as well.
It was her little cousins. So it's like, I don't want your little cousins talking crazy to me.
Yeah.
And then when I'm telling you that I feel like they're talking crazy to me, You don't care.
Did you not care?
It's not that I didn't care. At the end of the day, they kids and they gonna do what they want. At the end of the day, I told them she grown just like I'm grown. I'm not their parents. It ain't like I'm about to be like, don't talk to me.
I get it, I get it, I get it. I told y'all about it. I don't want you to ever do that. There's something about setting a tone.
That's what I just wanted her to be like, hey, watch out.
Lanaya, do you feel like you've outgrown this friendship? No. You don't? You still want this friendship?
I do.
How do you feel about her hanging out with your sister every week?
I don't like it. 'Cause at the end of the day, I feel like if I wasn't messing with that person, you my sister, you going against the grain. Like, why would you still be hanging out with somebody that I'm not cool with?
Got it.
That just don't sit right with me.
You wanna fix this friendship?
I do.
Okay, good, good. So Lanaya's sister, Ny'Asia, is here and I wanna talk to her and see what she has to say about all this. So Ny'Asia, come on out. Hi, Niaja, how you doing? You look good.
I'm doing good. Kind of feeling uneasy about a lot of things.
Okay, what are you feeling uneasy about?
I'm just feeling uneasy about both of them going at each other. I'm tired of it. I'm tired of being the middle ground. I'm tired of being just in the middle of people who should be loving on each other, not hating on each other, you know?
It's getting weird.
It's getting kind of frustrating because I look at both of them as a sister, you know? I grew up with her, of course, this is my sister, this is my blood sister, but you also introduced me to India, who's been around for years, many years. When you say you feel like I'm going against the grain when I talk to her, I feel like that's not fair to me because—
Well, I feel like it's not fair to me if you know we got a situation going on and I'm not talking to her right now.
But it's un—
And you steady just, it's like, Okay, well I'm about to go over there and chill with India.
I would never, I will say I would never like, that's my best friend. For me, I would never like make her choose between me and you.
I know, like, right, I know you wouldn't do that, but that's kind of what it felt like though.
Ny'Jah, do you feel like you're stabbing your sister in the back by inviting India to watch Baddies with you?
No, I don't feel like I'm stabbing her in the back. I honestly don't. I feel like we've grown up together. Like this is somebody who I've already created a bond with.
We really have grown up together.
When they fell out or whatever, in my opinion, both parties played a part in the falling out, but also it's like some of the things that were happening were unreasonable for you to just up and say, "Oh, cut her off." Well, at the end of the day, I'm not an argumentative person and she'd come at me telling me she don't wanna be my friend.
Okay, go ahead, you don't wanna be my friend. I felt like I was being a good friend, so I didn't feel like I needed to argue with her. I didn't wanna fight my best friend. You know how that ended the first time. I didn't wanna fight my best friend. I didn't wanna go back and forth with her. I knew at the end of the day we'd probably end up rekindling, but we're here on the Karamo Show.
Got it. So I see this, I see the love and I see the miscommunication. What I'll tell y'all right now, the thing that I see immediately, especially in young friendships, no more ultimatum statements because I hear y'all both have done that several times. A lot from you. You do it a lot. When you get sensitive, you make ultimatum statements, which is, you know what, I'm done. "I'm finished. I don't wanna be your friend no more." And then equally as you're outwardly sensitive, you're inwardly sensitive. So things hurt you big time, but you don't show it as much. And then you make these ultimatum statements where it's like, "Now, okay, fine. You don't wanna be my friend? Oh, you know what? I don't want you around my family." And like y'all are both digging. And when I'm telling you in real friendships that are sisters, that has that bond, you can't make those statements because one day you might not be able to come back from those ultimatum statements. That's the piece of advice I have for y'all. If you can stop that, it will allow you to get back to days where y'all can argue, hear each other, and y'all come back. But when you say things like, I don't wanna be your friend, I'm done with you, I'm finished, don't be around my family, you're putting things into the world, into the universe, and into each other's hearts that sometimes you might not be able to grow past. So trust me when I tell you, you don't do that no more.
And I really didn't wanna end our friendship, so I'm sorry for hurting your feelings 'cause I know that You are like, to the world, you hard, but I know you. So I'm sorry, I didn't want to end our friendship. I miss you, we grew up together.
Can you apologize as well?
I apologize as well for making you feel like that I let a female come in between our friendship.
Y'all both just did a big step. I knew this, we could mend this friendship. Can you give each other a hug? Okay, I know you miss your friend.
I miss you.
Sorry, Salim. Sorry for putting you in the middle of it.
Listen, please take my advice 'cause y'all are young. Y'all have a beautiful thing going on here. Trust me when I say just watch the ultimatums and also pay attention to the boundaries. I know you can't control anybody else, but if you truly love each other, you're never going to allow the boundaries to be mixed where y'all are not protecting each other, okay? I'm just trying to give y'all some advice so y'all can last for 25, 30 years, all right? My best friend and I have been together for 25, 35 years. Best friend and Trey.
That's what we trying to be.
Y'all gonna be like that, okay? Y'all gonna be like that. But I promise you what I'm telling you right now is the advice that we have, which has made our friendship last, all right? Where y'all live at?
Kansas City.
Okay, listen, I'll be in Kansas sometime. Let me know when we eating and watching Baddies, okay? Let me know, okay? I'm gonna come over, all right? Let me know, all right? Okay, I'm coming through. Listen, friends, stay with us. We'll be right back with more.
