Chapters
Your DNA mystery started with a phone call. Tell me about that.
Yeah, so it has started off with my messy cousin.
She messy like me messy or like?
Messy, messy cousin.
Messy, messy, okay.
Way more messy than you.
Okay, good, good, good. 'Cause I like to be messy with a message. She's messy, messy.
Very much messy, yeah. So we was talking on the phone about like family related stuff. And then she goes to tell me, "Oh, well, you know, so-and-so is not your daddy." See, there she go being messy again. See, that's what I'm talking about. So then, she goes to say, "Well, if you don't believe me, then go look at your birth certificate and you will see that he didn't sign yours." How she knew? Messy, messy. She done turned out messy.
Messy, I heard it now.
So, when I had went to go look And he did sign, my sister's father did sign her birth certificate, but he did not sign mine. And so I knew like, okay, she might be telling the truth just a little bit. Just a little bit though.
[Speaker:KARAMO] Just a little bit.
[Speaker] So then, so I had asked her, I'm like, okay, well, do you know who my father is?
[Speaker] Yeah.
[Speaker] And she gave me his first and last name. And I said, okay, well, I don't know how to reach him. Do he have any daughters? And then she goes to say, "Yeah." And then she told me about Siobhan. And then I had went on Facebook and then I had found Siobhan and I had inboxed her.
Wow, this cousin know everything. She knew about the birth certificate.
She the oldest, yes. She the oldest cousin.
She knew about the cousin, she knew about the daughter. Yeah. So she told you a lot.
She did.
Okay then.
She did.
Okay then. And so once she told you that there was a daughter that he could have potentially had, What did you do?
I had started texting Chevon. I was trying to get more info about him.
Well, did you confront your parents about what your cousin said?
Yeah, so I had confronted to my mama and I'm not gonna lie to you, she done lied way too much. She done lied way too much my whole entire life. So she was lying then and then. I just asked her recently, then she finally so-called wanted to tell the truth because I told her what my cousin told me, but at this point I still don't believe her.
You got it, got it, got it. The man you were raised with as a father, what did he say?
Well, he didn't have much to say because when I brought it to him, it was seeming like he didn't wanna like get into that type of question because he gave me his last name.
Got it. So for him it was more sort of like, no, you're my child, I don't even wanna talk about this.
Exactly, yeah.
Wow. So again, so this messy cousin said the man that could be your father has daughters.
Yes.
And so did you, you found this potential sister?
Yes.
Okay, and what happened? Yeah.
After I had asked her like certain questions, she just disappeared. Like I was bothering her, like she just disappeared as if like she wanted to—
And how long, this happened like a week of talking, 2 weeks of like communicating?
So, so this was like maybe like a few days of us talking and then she disappeared. Wow. So I would say months later she had texted me again and then she was like that it would be cool to have another little sister and that she would want me to know her and the rest of her siblings.
Okay, wow, okay. And so you ended up reconnecting with, her name's Siobhan, right?
Yes.
You ended up reconnecting with Siobhan a second time on Messenger. And is that when she said, I want you to meet you? Yes, yep.
Okay, good.
I wanna see the message that she sent to you 'cause my producer told me we got it. Can I see it? So he said, "I am 21." He's very weird and private, so I wouldn't know how he would react. Oh wow. You have any pics of him? His address is that. Wow, he stayed behind me the whole time. So the man—
The whole time, yes.
Hold on, so the man that could potentially be your father just stayed right behind you?
Yes, yes, yes.
What are you talking about right behind you? What you mean, like 5 minutes, 20 minutes?
I'm talking like a 5-minute walk.
Wow.
Yeah. Yeah, that close. Look, you see? He was that close this whole time. Like, I could've walked over there and met him and all of that. Yeah.
And you were how old again when you learned this information?
I was 19.
19 years old?
Yeah.
So for 19 years, you were that close to the man who could potentially be your father. Well, first of all, unless your messy cousin would've said something.
Since I was 3. Really?
Since you were 3?
Yeah.
Well, and if your messy cousin would've said nothing, you wouldn't have known this man was your biological father.
I would have never known.
Wow.
Wouldn't have never known.
My gosh. I mean, she not too messy now. I mean—
No, no, no, no. She not too messy now. You know, she had passed away of a natural cause. Like, how you gonna be messy and just disappear like that? See what I'm talking about?
I don't think she meant to disappear, but you know. But you know. So what do you believe? Do you believe she is your sister?
I do believe she is my sister. Like, I can honestly say I feel like I do look just like her just a little bit, only because growing up I've been told I don't look nothing like my siblings. And so yeah.
Okay, well everyone, I wanna meet your potential sister, Siobhan. So everyone, welcome Siobhan to the show.
Hey. Oh my gosh.
Hey Siobhan, how you doing?
She looks just like me.
You so pretty. How you doing? Nice to meet you.
My mom told me to tell you hello.
Hey, Mama. So Siobhan, is this the first time you two have met?
Very first time.
Very first time?
Yes.
So y'all have talked on the phone but never met in person?
Not even on the phone.
Not even on the phone? No.
Oh, not even on the phone?
I've called her a couple times, but I haven't gotten a call back.
Oh.
So I'll be at work.
So if she is my sister, you got to call me back now.
Yeah, I will.
So how do you feel to meet each other for the this first time right now? Is it weird? Is it interesting? What is going through your mind?
At first I thought it would be weird, but looking at her backstage, I'm like, she's my sister. I almost don't even need a DNA just looking at her face.
You know what? See, this is the thing that always gets me on this show is because I see it as well, but I've been Gooped before. So for you to be like, y'all look like, then you be like, oh no, y'all not family. But I see the resemblance here. I really do. Y'all look very similar.
Both beautiful women.
Yeah.
And one thing she said back there, I'm sorry to interrupt.
No, no, please say it.
You said that I disappeared. Yeah. I actually did not. I asked you about that and you was like, "Oh, I deactivated my Facebook, so." I mean, I don't remember that.
Oh, okay.
So you wrote into the show. Why was this important for you to do? First of all, thank you for writing into us.
Thank you for having us, Karamo.
Of course, of course, of course. So why was it important for you to do this now?
Because of you.
Yeah.
You are very inspirational. You handle people's feelings with care.
Thank you, I appreciate that. Yeah.
Thank you.
Yeah. Thank you, I appreciate that.
God honor you. And I need that emotional support to deal with this. You know, having a little sister is an exciting thing by itself, but approaching a situation and finding out if she's legit my sister, I need that emotional support.
Got it, got it. Well, thank you for reaching out. That is the whole reason I have this show is I wanna be there for people. So I appreciate you seeing that.
And I watch you every day.
I appreciate that too, okay. Thank you. So you get a message on Facebook from your potential sister. Were you shocked when that happened?
Very shocked because she's not the first person that has reached out on Facebook.
Oh wow.
Oh man.
Yes, there's a brother that's a potential.
Oh wow.
Yes. He and I conversation didn't go too much further because of who his mother is and the timeframe that he was born. It was during a marriage. So when she came, I was like, oh my goodness, not another one. It's already like 7 of us, you know? And he and I wasn't in a good place at that time. We're still not in a good place. So I was like, okay, how am I gonna welcome this young lady into my life or even know if she's my sister And he and I don't even have the relationship I would love to have.
Yeah, yes, I get that, I get that. What did your dad tell you about, tell you about her?
He didn't tell me much. He met me with a lot of attitude, a lot of resistance. He didn't remember, he doesn't know anything about Sariah, so he says.
Wow, what was life growing up like for you?
Growing up had its challenges. My parents were older in life when they had me. My father was in his 40s, my mom was in her 30s.
Okay.
And my mom was who she was and my dad was more So hey, keep your eyes off those boys, head in the books, education is key. But at the same time, I was exposed to a lot of things that a child shouldn't be exposed to.
I got it.
But there's no surprise that Sariah's here because he was busy and he was messy.
Got it, yeah. Still him. So now it's important for you because it seems like you're in a better place for you to try to be there and try to see to get this truth.
I am, so.
Does he still stay around the corner?
Still there.
Still there, wow. And so since you've known his address, have you walked by the house? Have you?
Uh-uh.
Nothing?
Uh-uh. Nothing?
Why? Why have you? 'Cause I'm curious. I'd have walked by the house. I'd have parked in front one time. By now I'd have known his schedule. I'd have known everything. But that's just me 'cause I'm messy like that.
No lie.
So I just felt like it was just pointless.
Yeah, I got it.
I didn't even want nothing like, you know what, it's cool. He old. I just wanna know more about Javon and her siblings. So I ain't wanna go over there.
Wow, okay. So what will happen, Javon, if the results come back that she is not your sister?
I highly doubt that it will, looking at her today. But if, you know, that happens, you know, I don't know. I know that your search will continue. You know, and I hope that you do find your father. And if you ever want a big sister, you know, you have my number and you have a way of contacting me.
Yes.
Well, I think it's time to solve this DNA mystery. This has been, you're 26, right?
I'm 24.
24, excuse me. So you're 24. So this is a DNA mystery 24 years in the making where with that one messy cousin, set off everything and now we're here. As I tell people all the time, this is not my truth to open, this is your truth to open. So, Siobhan, since you called the show, I'm gonna give it to you.
Oh, okay. Oh boy, the moment we have all been waiting for. What do you think? You think you're my sister?
Yeah, I do. And I hope so.
Yes, I think so too. Here it is, guys.
I hope so too.
So—
Because I like y'all personalities. I hope y'all so too.
Let's open it together.
OK.
Siobhan, Sariah, Siobhan is right.
It's okay, baby.
I got you. I got you.
I got you.
It's over now. It's over now. Oh, oh, I'm happy too. I am.
It's okay, baby.
I got you. Yeah. Oh, you knew it. I don't know why you crying. We look just alike.
Well, you know, that release sometimes is when you don't have answers and you've been living in sort of this cloud. Even as much as you try to process and be like, well, it's fine, I'm gonna hold it off. This is a relief because now you have your answers. You know where you come from.
Yes.
And you deserve that. You deserve to know where you come from. You deserve to know your family history, your medical history. You deserve to have all these answers.
That part.
And I also want to congratulate you because what you've inadvertently done, which you might not realize this, is that the pain and the wounds that you felt as a child and the generational trauma, you just broke it. Woo!
It definitely feels good.
You just broke it.
Yeah.
And what you decided was said, nope, I'm gonna make sure that we're open, that we're connected, and that we are always gonna be here for each other.
Yes.
You just broke that. You just broke that. And you see that release combined with that, that lets me know that y'all gonna be strong and healthy. And I'm so happy for y'all.
Yes, we are.
I'm so happy for y'all. But now you gotta call your big sister back. So when your big sister call, I get it before, before you didn't know for sure. So it's like, well, I don't know, I can't, I don't really need to call back. Now you need to call back. That's your big sister.
I will, I will, I will.
Thank you for trusting me to introduce you to your sister for the very first time. Thank you. Seriously. I'm so excited for y'all.
Thank you.
You got a good big sis here. You got a good little sis here.
Thank you.
Congratulations.
Somebody had to do it, right?
You did it. I mean, you did it big. That's why I had to take a moment because I don't think sometimes we think these little small moments are just like, oh well, we know you're my sister, but you don't understand how big that is in the shift of your family. That is a big shift. You've went completely against the grain of what you were taught is how this foundation is supposed to be. And you said, not in my house. At all. You said, this foundation's gonna be different. Yes. And that's big. 'Cause that shifts how everyone else feels we should move forward, whether you know it or not.
Exactly, exactly. You know, my brothers that you're gonna meet, I can't wait, was like, Siobhan, what you up to now? Why you going on this show with all our business? I said, well, who else is gonna do it?
Thank you, Lord, thank you.
You know, how else are we gonna know?
You shifted it. And see, that's exactly what I'm trying to prove then. I don't wanna belabor this point, but that's the way they're talking. Is how your father unfortunately trained you all. Why you putting our business out there? Why you talking about it? We just let things, we're just gonna ignore this. And what you did is you said, no, that's not happening no more in this family. We gonna talk about it. We gonna be connected. No more secrecy. And that is breaking of generational curses. That is breaking of generational trauma. That is breaking. You did it. You got a good beat. Listen, when she call you, get her advice. Listen to what she gotta say. All right?
I will, I will.
Yeah, seriously, seriously. I'm so happy for y'all. Congratulations. Yeah, listen, thank you for being here. All right, friends, thank you for being with us. Make sure to come back next time so we can keep talking and growing. I love you all.
