My Dead Brother Is Not Your Child's Father! | KARAMO

In this Karamo talk‑show episode, the host (Speaker B) brings together Bree, a mother who claims her deceased brother Gene (who died on October 9 2021) is the father of her daughter, and Edna, Gene’s sister. Bree recounts a turbulent relationship with Gene, alleging they dated briefly, that she became pregnant in 2018, and that Gene initially seemed supportive before denying paternity after his death. She says she kept the pregnancy secret, later claiming Gene’s family is withholding the death certificate so she can claim survivor benefits. Edna disputes Bree’s story, accusing her of lying about the paternity, suggesting another man is on the birth certificate, and insisting Gene never knew about the child. The host mediates, probing motives, timelines, and emotional impact, and finally presents a sealed DNA test envelope, framing the result as the truth that will resolve the five‑year dispute. Throughout, the segment is charged with emotional accusations, family grief, and the tension between seeking closure and potential financial gain.

So this girl, Bri, she's claiming she have a baby by my brother and he's not here to defend himself, but I am. Sadly, on October 9th, 2021, my brother passed away. She used to hustle back when we all lived together. My mom told my brother, like, don't have sex with her because if she becomes pregnant, you know, she's gonna blame it on you. And that's exactly what happened. So first she goes and told my brother that she's pregnant by him, and then she make me took her to another man's house to tell the man that he was the baby's father. I think she's claiming this is my brother's baby because she's trying to get benefits from my brother. It's been about a year that she's been asking for my brother's death certificate to get benefits from him. All the family, we just wanna know the truth.
Listen everyone, today we will solve this DNA mystery. So everyone please help me welcome Bree to the show so we can hear her side of the story. So Bree, I have to ask you, I saw you getting teary-eyed. How do you feel about what you were hearing? Here you go, love. Here you go.
Here you go.
I'm sorry, here you go, love. What's going on in your head right now?
It just hurts that a friend that I thought could be a friend got so much crap to talk about me. Like, that's just mad fake. Like—
You and Edna were close, correct?
Yeah.
And so this was like where you spent time with her and her brother. Okay, how do you feel about Edna and her family denying your child now?
It just hurts. Like, every time I look at my daughter, I see him in her.
Yeah.
And it just hurts. I gotta deal with this by myself.
What was your relationship like with her brother Gene?
It was amazing. Like the best guy I ever had.
Got it. And how long were y'all dating?
We were dating for like a few months.
A few months, okay.
I ended up moving in with them.
Okay. Were you with him when the baby was born?
No, I wasn't.
Okay.
I was with somebody else.
You were with somebody else at that point, okay. And did you tell him about the baby?
No, I didn't because I had left him due to him doing drugs and I didn't want my daughter around that or me.
Okay, got it.
'Cause I didn't wanna risk my pregnancy.
Got it.
So I left and then like I just kept it a secret between me, the other guy and my daughter.
Did he ever see the baby before he passed?
No, he didn't.
He didn't. Did he have any idea or inclination that this could possibly be his child?
He did, but then like, he found out when I was pregnant and then he was all happy about it. Couple of weeks passed and he just started acting like it wasn't his kid, you know? Acting like I was just a bad person.
That's tough. So you started to feel sorry about it? Here, gimme your hand. Sorry, love. So you started feeling like you were a bad person at that time because of the rejection. Got it. I'm sorry to hear that. When did you find out he was denying your child?
I found out literally after he died because that's when I gave in and I told his sister Edna that that's his kid.
And she told you immediately that my brother said what?
Yeah, that it's not his kid, that You know, he thinks that you were sleeping around with other people and—
Did you ever allow his family to see your daughter?
I tried asking his mom. Every time she told me, "Oh, you know, I'll go and see the baby the day comes." And I would leave working.
She wouldn't show up. So you want Gene to be the father?
I know he's the father.
You know he's the father, okay then. Well, I think it's time that we meet Edna and welcome her to the show and get her side of the story. So everyone, welcome Edna. Come in to the show.
Brittany, you are lying.
No, you're lying.
And you know you're lying.
You're lying.
First of all, Bri, you know why we have dogs. Like, you really know why. So I don't know how you sit there and you act like you're hurt. And you act like you're telling the truth when you know, Bri, what you was doing. And you know why my brother had that. You never even told me that was my brother's baby 100%.
You actually did tell me that.
You told me he may be my brother's baby.
I never said that.
You never told me it was his baby. I never said that. Now you say 100% his baby. At the beginning, you never said it was 100%.
Let me ask you a question. Did you sleep with your brother? Were you in the room when I was sleeping with your brother?
No, but I definitely knew you was sleeping around with other men. What other men? That's what I know, that's what I see.
What other men?
You told me one time to take you to another man's house.
No, I didn't.
For you to tell the other man that that was his baby.
No, I didn't.
So you saying I'm lying?
You are lying.
No, I'm not lying.
Like I said, were you in the room?
No.
Were you in the room when I was in there?
So the accusation she's making, first of all, and thank you for being here, take a seat for me. Thank you so much. So she's saying that during this time you were having sex with other men. Is there any truth to that? No.
None.
So during this time that you were with her brother and that y'all lived together, you were only with her brother?
I was only with her brother.
Okay then. So why do you think and why are you saying that she was with other men?
She was never in a relationship with my brother. That was just messing around.
Always.
For a couple weeks. Okay. It wasn't never that serious. Got it. So my brother never cared what she was doing because they was never together.
It was just sexual for them in your opinion? Exactly.
Okay then.
Did she contact your brother when she had the baby?
Definitely not. She contacted me, never him. Mm-hmm.
Got it. Well, she's saying that, so when was it that your brother passed away?
He passed away on October 9th, 2021. 2021.
First of all, I'm sorry. No matter how long it is, I know that's hard to grieve. And so how long before your brother passed did you get pregnant? Was this a year or 6 months? How long was the time difference between the passing and the baby?
I had her in 2018.
Oh, and you're saying during this entire time you had never told him that he was a father? Okay. But in the video you said that, you said a large part of this, which I thought I wrote this down, your words were you think that she's only doing this because she's trying to get benefits. Definitely.
His death benefits.
Because she's been asking for his death benefits death certificate for around a year and a half.
What benefits would she be able to get?
That if she would take the death certificate to the food stamps office, she would get some type of benefits. Assistance, got it.
Yeah, exactly.
How does that make you feel, Bri?
Honestly, I don't even care about the damn benefits. I just want my daughter to have clarity and be able to know damn well that why he was asking so much for his death certificate. Because I wanna know why my baby father died. Wouldn't you like to know if your baby daddy died and how he died?
You should've just asked. That's what I tried doing. You know how he died.
You guys kept giving me the runaround about, oh, my brother has it and he don't wanna release it to anybody. He only wants to release it when they find out that you are, and that he is his dad.
You know how I know you're lying? 'Cause I told you that nobody really had it because nobody has gold. To the place and get it. So we don't even know yet.
Okay, that's what you say.
Edna, you told producers there's another guy on the birth certificate. Yes.
There is. That's the funniest part. How you're so hurt about my brother's death, but you went and put the baby another man's last name.
Is that true? Did you put another man?
And I said that because he was the one stepping up like a father. He's been there my whole pregnancy. He's been there even when I had the baby and he wanted to step up like a father figure. And that's why his name is on that birth certificate.
That's funny because where he's at now, he don't even wanna do nothing to do with the baby.
Even if he doesn't wanna deal with the baby now, he still put his name on the birth certificate.
So in all fairness, because I like to track the things you say, if you said that this other guy was there and kudos to him and I understand why you would put him on the birth certificate. But you also said that you never told her brother. You never gave him a chance to know. So how could he even stepped up? I understand there was drug abuse, but how could he have stepped up? How could the family stepped up? How could have anyone been there to support you if you didn't communicate it? True.
I just wanted to keep it a secret between me and him and the baby.
Okay.
Okay. Bree posts about your brother on Facebook, you told my producers, right? Yes.
Okay.
What do you post on Facebook?
I just post pictures of him wishing that he could come back, 'cause this is not fair.
John, baby, please come back, I need you. It's our baby girl's birthday, I need you.
But before he died, she never did this. He didn't even know he was the baby's father because she never told him.
How would it affect you and your family if he's not the father?
Affect us a lot because we're already, you know, even though we have doubts, we're like, if that's his daughter, we are gonna be there. But especially it's gonna, you know, affect my mother because she's gonna be devastated if that's not his baby. Yeah. Because she's been making my mom think that is his baby 100%. Got it.
Well, I think that it's time to solve this DNA mystery. So in this envelope is the DNA mystery that has been affecting you all for almost 5 years. This is a lot of questions that need to be answered. This is also not only about answers in the present moment, but this is also about legacy as well. You know, I always tell people this is not my truth to open. So Bree, I'll hand you this. This is your truth to open. Is there anything you wanna say before this?
I just wanna say I told you so. When you find out that the baby is his, I want y'all in her life because I'm not gonna go through what I went through.
And I am gonna be there. We are gonna be there if that's my brother's baby. And you know that.
Can I just open this?
Yes, you can. It's your truth to open. What does it say?
See, you see, he knew it, Rick. He knew it. And you make us feel like we was lying, Rick. He knew that was not his baby. And you made my mother think that was his baby. Like you told me. He's the only one I slept with, like I don't understand. Obviously not, obviously not, Bri. Obviously not, like. This is my baby, Bri. Like you swore to God that was his baby. Don't leave now.
Wow. Okay. So Edna, I'm so sorry because what has happened in this, and this is what we talked about before when I asked you the question about your mother and her feelings, I'm sure this is going to be even harder because she's been hoping that there's a piece of your brother left behind. Yeah, yeah.
You know, even though we have that, we hope it was his because even though he have another daughter, it will be something else that he left us. That's how we felt. Yeah.
What this does allow, even though it is bad news or sad news, it does allow the full grieving process to happen. You do know that, right? Yeah.
Yeah. And I feel really bad for that baby girl. Like, she still don't even, don't know who her father is.
Well, I wish you all the best of luck. Bree, I know you're backstage, if you can see this. If you want any support, we have a complete staff that's here to help you with resources so that way your child can have the family you desire. Good luck to you, good luck to your mother. If you need support in that grieving, please feel free to call the show. We can give you resources, okay?
