In this episode of the KARAMO talk show, host Karamo mediates a heated conversation between a grandmother (Speaker B) and her granddaughter Patrice about a rapid deterioration in their relationship. The discussion reveals a pattern of escalating conflict that began when the granddaughter was 14 and started hanging out with new friends, using weed, drinking, and posting a provocative gun‑related joke on Facebook. The grandmother expresses hurt and fear over the gun post, while the granddaughter dismisses it as "just for fun." Their arguments frequently turn physical: the grandmother describes pinning the granddaughter to the floor, jumping on her, and the granddaughter recounts being hit and threatened. Both parties also vent anger by punching walls. The grandmother attempts to discipline the granddaughter through chores and, in one incident, throws a hot‑sauce‑filled ball at her. Throughout, both participants talk over each other, struggle to listen, and convey deep frustration and emotional pain, illustrating a breakdown in communication and a cycle of aggression within the family.

Okay, so I just heard what your granddaughter had to say. Why, you say that it feels like you all hate each other?
Yes.
Why?
'Cause it's not like it used to be because when I ask her to do things, she'll just get this attitude, snap off, throw things, walk out the door, go to her friend's house, don't answer her phone.
So tell me about when you think things took a turn in your relationship.
I think around about when she was 14 years old, she met some new friends, wanted to start hanging out, smoking weed and going to parties. And I think she's been slipping and drinking a little bit too.
Have you been?
Yes.
You have been.
And I didn't like it and didn't want her to do it. So, you know.
So why, how did you react seeing the Facebook post that you told us about?
I was hurt. She admitted that it was a, they was playing. It's not a joke to me. People get killed by things like that.
'Cause you holding onto guns?
Yeah.
It was just for fun. It was just for fun. It was, we were just having fun. We were just playing.
That's no way to play.
That's no way to play.
Like, we all teenagers. That's no way to play. No. Not acceptable.
So why is it so hard for you to talk about this?
She don't listen when I start saying something. I don't wanna hear that and stomp off.
No, she don't give me the chance to talk. You talk over me all the time.
I try to listen at you. This is what I get right here.
So do the arguments between you two ever get physical?
Oh yeah, oh yeah. Real physical.
Physical in what way?
When she try to look like she about to hit me. Oh yeah. I got her. I got her. You hit me and you gonna be down there. Grandma is not gonna play that.
Do you get physical back?
No.
She can't.
I never hit her. I never hit her. Every time I put my hand up—
I pins her down to the floor.
No, I put my hand up and she'll throw it at me.
And I jump on top of her.
I never hit her back.
And I try. I'mma tell you, I do get physical. 'Cause I try to knock her head off. You know?
She said she never gets physical back.
She can't 'cause I have her held down sometimes.
I get mad, I do punch the walls. I do punch the walls because I don't wanna hear her.
I'm not gonna hear her.
It's my grandma, I'm not gonna hear her. So I do punch the walls.
So you get mad when that happens and you take your anger out on—
The wall.
The wall. How does that make you feel when she takes the anger out on the wall?
I get mad 'cause I got to pay for it. And I try to make her work for it.
Mm-hmm, okay. You know, do things. How do you make her work for it?
I make her do things around the house, help me out with her mom and help me out with her uncle.
Mm-hmm.
I do.
Okay, so you told my producers you recently threw hot sauce at Patrice. Explain.
Ooh, yeah. That mouth, that mouthpiece. She was talking so smart and nasty to me. Until I wanted to swing over and hit her with my fist, but I had a hot sauce ball in my hand and I just threw that at her.
