My Mom's Ex Husband Says He's My Dad! | KARAMO

In this episode of the Karamo show, host Karamo interviews siblings London and Josh about a long‑standing family mystery. Their mother’s ex‑husband, Robbie, contacted London seven years ago claiming he might be her biological father, presenting old photos and suggesting a possible paternity link. The claim unsettles both siblings, especially London, who worries that their brotherly bond might be based on a false biological connection. The conversation also reveals their difficult upbringing—being raised by a grandmother after their mother’s alcoholism, the recent death of their mother from cirrhosis, and London’s recent 4‑month sobriety. Both siblings discuss how the unresolved paternity question has stalled their grieving process. After sharing their feelings, a DNA test is performed live on the show. The results confirm that Robbie is not their father and that London and Josh are indeed biological siblings, preserving their brotherly bond. The episode ends with emotional relief, affirmation of their relationship, and encouragement for viewers dealing with similar family complexities.

First, let's go back. Did you and Josh grow up in the same house?
No, but when I turned about 2, closer to 3, that's when he did come into the home and lived with my mom and our dad.
Got it. Who raised you then?
My dad's mom. Your dad's mom raised you. We were with my mom for a while, but we got taken away when we were younger.
Got it. So 7 years ago, your mom's ex-husband reached out to you. Tell me what happened.
Yeah, so Robbie reached out to me. I've known about him my whole life. My family's never, not spoke about him, but there was never any questions that he could potentially be my dad. So he reached out to me and he shared information. He showed me, like, he had professional, like, baby pictures of me, like things that my mom had to have sent to him.
Yeah, of course.
So I, you know, I looked at pictures. There's a side-by-side picture and we actually do look alike. You look alike.
Oh, oh wow.
Yeah. That's a younger picture of him. And like last year, picture of me.
Oh, okay. And so Robby said you could be his daughter.
Yes, he did. Okay then. He doesn't have any other children. I would be his only biological child if I am.
Got it.
Him and my mom, they tried having a baby. I did know that. And it took a long time for my mom to get pregnant with me.
So that's why he believes that he could be your father because they did try.
Yeah, and the conception date actually, was December of 1996 and I was born September of 1997.
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
That math, maths.
Math, maths, mathin', ain't it?
So how did that make you feel?
To be honest, when it comes to a dad standpoint, not really anything. I think it's more affecting me is the thought of my brother not biologically being my brother.
Got it, understand.
We grew up together, we went through, our life was not easy at all. Addiction ran really deep in my family. My mom actually passed away in October from cirrhosis to the liver. I was a very bad alcoholic, 4 months sober.
Hey, congratulations.
I love that.
I love that.
Yeah, 4 months sober. I've lost about 40 pounds.
Yes.
I just watched that disease take over my mom and stuff and I just, it's traumatizing to even look at liquor now.
Yeah, so now you're in a space where you're ready to heal on your journey. I love that.
Congratulations. Thank you so much.
Did you tell your mother that Robbie had reached out?
I did, I actually, like I said, my mom was a very bad alcoholic, so having a conversation with her wasn't as easy. But she also shooed me away. She didn't wanna talk about it. I'm not quite sure what note they left off of when they broke up. The reality is she left him for a woman.
Oh wow, okay, yeah.
He was not happy about that. He's still not happy about that, but yeah.
So who do you believe your father was?— that can tell y'all were close.
It's like, you know, I'm 28 years old and I've grown up with my dad and my mom my whole life. So, you know, like I can't really too much look at somebody else and be like, oh yeah, you're my dad. You know, because everybody says that, you know, you look like your mom, but you got your daddy's eyes. Well, Robbie has blue eyes too, so that doesn't help.
So let me just be clear, you and Josh have different mothers.
Yes, we do.
So that's why this is so important to you because you've grown up together. This was your bond. You just said like he was a father figure.
Yes.
And what connected you all was this father. Yes. And so now that somebody else is in the picture, it's like now this person that I've just grown up with either or not might not be a biological connection and that's messing with you.
Yeah, and I think it's really messing with me now is because there's more things coming out since after the fact that my mom passed away.
Got it.
So there was rumors that my mom was sleeping with Robbie and my father, actually the night that my mom and Robbie got married.
On the wedding night?
On the wedding night.
Oh wow.
My mom was, yeah, she—
On the wedding night.
On the wedding night. And so yeah, like I said, there wasn't really too much to be able to—
And your father's name is ?
Yes.
Yes. So the man who raised you or that you've known as your father is , and then Robbie is the one that was at the wedding.
Yeah, that got married to my mom.
That got married to your mom and then—
My mom slept with my dad that night.
Yes, got it. 'Cause Josh's father.
Yep.
Yes, okay, I'm just making sure. I'm putting all the pieces together.
Yep.
Okay then. So my producers say that all of this has halted your grieving process. In what way?
I just, everything came out all at once. Before my mom got sick, she got sick in May and was in the hospital. She passed away in October. But that's when Robby really started reaching out a lot more and we were having more conversations about it. And so that was a big change in my life. And then when my mom passed away, everything started coming out, more information. So it's like I'm not having time to grieve my mom's passing.
Have you ever met Robby?
I haven't. We've never lived really close, but shockingly we are now the closest we've ever been in my entire life. We're 4 hours apart and I want to go see him. Yeah. But I need to know what type of relationship I need to be building with him.
Makes sense. First of all, I'm really, really excited that you have also shared your sober journey knowing the fact that you're still grieving.
Yeah.
Because what usually happens in this moment where like you have not had the ability to grieve, all this new information come, most of the times we go to substances. Absolutely. To cope. And the fact that you have found other ways, I just wanted to reiterate that because it really is inspiration. There could be somebody right now who is going through a lot and it feels like the world is coming at me. And if instead of like sitting in your feelings, figuring out how to figure it out, do the work, they might be reaching for a bottle or some drugs. Exactly. And so I'm just proud of you and I wanna just highlight you.
Thank you.
And how great that is.
Thank you.
Because somebody might be watching you and say, you know what?
Yep.
I don't need to reach for this. I can find other ways to cope, so.
2 days after she passed away, I put it down and haven't been back to it since.
Amen. Great job. Good job. So I gotta ask you, what are you hoping the results will say today?
I don't know. I can't, because it's not the dads that I'm worried about. It's just my brother. Regardless what the results say, my brother will always be my brother. He's been my brother my entire life. I don't know.
Well, yeah. Well, what I know about that type of bond is that it sounds like for you, it goes beyond blood. You know what I mean? I'm hoping you all are siblings. But what you were describing, that support, that love, you even saying he's like a father figure, it tells me that these emotions are deeper than just a title. You know what I mean?
Very much deeper.
So I think it's time to meet Josh and hear his side of the story. So everyone, please welcome Josh to the show.
Hi.
Hi, man.
You look good.
Hey, Josh. How you doing?
I'm good.
Thanks for being here.
Thanks for inviting me.
Of course. So what has London meant to you over the years?
She's, we've been through everything together. So she's kind of, you know, she's my little sister.
Yeah, yeah.
As we grew up, had a whole bunch of issues with everything and my grandma taking custody of us.
She passed away also.
Got it, okay.
My brother, he's, He's lost his biological mother. He's lost our grandmother. He's lost our mother that raised him. Yeah.
So was her mother like a second mother to you?
Yeah, she's pretty much the only mother I ever knew.
Yeah, okay.
Growing up, so.
Got it, got it.
She's my mother as well.
Did she ever mention possibility of Robbie being London's father to you?
No.
Never?
No, never mentioned it. I never really heard about him until really when she was dying. And he was starting to reach out to London a lot more.
We were all separated. Like Josh was living, like as we got older, we were all like separated away from each other. And so.
And so we were kind of for a little while.
Yeah. So how did you learn that Robbie may be her father?
She just called me up.
She told you?
She's like, this guy is really blowing up my phone, really wants to be my dad.
You saw him all over Facebook?
Yeah, yeah. Saw him all over Facebook commenting on all my pictures, like on my status.
So he's being aggressive with it?
No, he's.
Oh, he really is.
Yeah, he really, like I said, him and my mom, him and my mom tried to have a baby, so he has no children.
So. He really wants to be her dad.
Got it.
Like with or without a positive result.
How did that make you feel knowing that this person could be, is reaching out saying that he's a father and that could mean that you two aren't siblings?
Yeah, I kind of just kind of wrote it off at first. Like he's kind of obsessed with my mom.
Yeah.
It was just one of those things. But when she sent me that side-by-side picture when he was younger, I was like, Might wanna get a test.
Yeah, you said like you might wanna get a test.
Yeah, he might.
He did it.
He might wanna get a test. He did it.
So what are you hoping for today, Josh?
Well, I'm hoping she is my sister. Yeah. Yeah, me too.
Okay.
I think she is.
Yeah. Well, London, are you ready for the truth?
I am, I really am.
Well, it is time. Let's not wait any longer.
So, come on here. Thank you.
So London, in this envelope, is the truth of your identity. You have went your life assuming one person was your father that you shared with your brother. And then recently, the past 7 years, this man has come out and over time has been more aggressive saying, "I am your father." And now you're at a point where you wanna know because with your mother passing and with him possibly passing, you want the truth.
Exactly.
In this envelope is your truth. It's not my truth to open, so I wish you the best of luck.
It's like, whatever this says, you're my brother.
Yep.
We've been through so much together, everything. You believed in me when nobody else did. You saw the best in me when nobody else did.
Yeah.
So let's get to it, guys. I'm so scared.
It's gonna be all right.
Oh gosh, okay. You are my boss, Vlad.
Take a deep breath, take a deep breath, take a deep breath.
That's good.
You as well.
I told you.
God, I think I'm just like, it really bothers me that this was ever even a thought.
Yeah.
That it could have been. We've gone through so much. Like our life has not been easy at all. So I was literally contemplating in my head like, what is this gonna do? Like how is this? Where do we go next? Like, you know? Yeah. Oh God, thank God.
Well, what we know is that that connection between you two is strong and it's strong for a reason because y'all are biological siblings.
Yes.
So that means everyone is your father and not Robby. So how will you tell Robby this truth? Tell him to watch the Karamo Show.
Okay.
Tell him to watch the Karamo Show. Tell him to watch the show, yeah.
No, honestly, I'm, I have feelings, you know, and I'm sympathetic for people and I know how much it meant to him for me to wanna be his child, but I've been where I'm at for 28 years and that's why I made it a point to figure out the truth because I can be there for him. You know, my mom loved him and he loves my mom. I can be there for him, but he's just not my dad. That's okay.
Yeah, that's okay.
That's okay.
Yeah, yeah. Well, you have a great heart and I'm really glad that these answers I'm not gonna lie. I was hoping, especially after hearing all you've been through, that this connection would not be severed in any way with any doubt. And so I love that you two have each other. You've always had each other and you always have each other. So congratulations. Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your story with us, okay? Yeah, thank you. Everyone, make sure to come back next time, friends, so we can keep talking and growing. I love you all.
