Chapters
So please tell me, how did you find out that the man who raised you wasn't your biological father?
Well, at the age of 21, I went down to the vital records department.
Okay, yes.
And it had a different man's name on my birth certificate.
Oh wow.
Yes. Here you go, love. So I was stunned, yes. And his name was Ronald Puller.
Okay.
Yes, so I ended up going, I'm like just an emotional wreck, you know? Yeah, of course. So I checked with the vital record department and I asked them, you know, Is this my real father's name that's on the birth certificate? And they was like, yes, this is your original birth certificate.
Wow.
So I'm emotional, I go home, I call my mom and dad. I was like, dad, you know, I had this different man's name on my birth certificate. And then he was like, baby, everything's gonna be okay. I'm gonna give your mom a call and we'll get everything straightened out.
Yeah.
And so I was like, okay. So next thing you know, my dad showed up at my apartment and he's giving me a hug and he's like, "Sonya, you know everything's gonna be just fine, don't you worry." So then after that, I had given my, he left, I had given my sister a call to let her know that our dad wasn't our real father.
I was like, OMG. What's going on? But I had a dream when I was in the 6th grade. That my father, my biological father, wasn't my father. So when my sister called me, I wasn't like shocked. I was just surprised.
So interesting that you had that dream. Yeah. At a young age.
At the 6th grade. But at that present time, when my sister was venting, going off, 'cause she was at top 10.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay, I had to break her down. So at that timeframe, I had to comfort her. 'Cause that was more important.
So what did your mother say? And by the record for everyone, we asked your mom to be here and she did decline. But what did she say in this moment?
She said it wasn't important.
She said the man on their birth certificate was not important.
He was not important to be discussed about.
Wow. Did you ever meet the man who was on your birth certificate?
Yes.
You did meet him?
Yes, we did.
Okay, when did you meet him?
We met him like towards the end of that year.
Oh, so when you were like 21, 22?
Yeah, I was 21. It was towards the end of that year. I gave him a call. Yeah. And he had, we made an appointment, you know, to meet up at his father's apartment. We get to the father's apartment and the first thing he asked, did we get high? Did we drink or did we gamble? Okay, and then a few minutes later, he went into the room to, our grandfather to borrow money to take us to KFC. So I didn't have a watch on, but I was like, girl, it is time to go.
We got to go.
You ain't taking me no damn KFC, okay? I ain't even gonna let no date take me to KFC. And I'm not gonna let no man that's on my birth certificate take me to KFC. So then we met some of his sisters, and I had told them I only had one father only. I don't care who on this birth certificate. And one father owns all of it.
And that's the man who raised you? He raised us.
And he gonna always be my father.
Got it. So did you ever get in contact with this man again? At that one time when he tried to take you to KFC, did you ever speak to him again?
Yeah, just, well, I didn't have conversation with him, but I ended up going to his dad's funeral.
Okay then.
And that was the last time.
Because for you, you were like, since your name's on the birth certificate, I'm still going to try to see if maybe I can—
See if there's any connection or anything.
I see the two of your personalities now, I get it, I get it. Not me. You were like, nope, I'm not doing it.
He was done. After I met the bum, he was done.
Okay, got it. So my producer said they put together a graphic that they wanna see. So this is Ronald, the man that was on your birth certificate, correct?
Yes.
Okay, the one that tried to take you to KFC?
Yes.
Okay. And so then we have you two, then he also had Abby and Amy, and then he had Sean and Ron. So these would all be your potential siblings from him?
Yes.
Got it, understand.
Yes.
Understand. All right then. How did you feel when you connect with them?
I felt love in the air.
You felt love.
And I felt comfortable.
You felt comfortable.
Yes.
Got it. Got it.
Yes, wow.
And so this is just a, so y'all have had a relationship now for what, a month or a year? Was it last November?
Last November.
Last November. Okay, so about a year you've been talking. Yeah, so you said you feel comfortable about them. So in your soul you feel like they are your siblings?
Yes, I do.
Okay then, I hear that. I gotta ask you though, because you know, there's inconsistencies in the things the things that you all were even told as children, what will happen if they aren't your siblings?
I'll be sad, but I'll still love 'em.
Still love 'em.
Okay.
Yeah, I'll still love 'em.
So do you think you would've ever found out about Ronald if you didn't get that birth certificate?
My mother was going to her grave. She was going to her grave.
She was not gonna say nothing.
No.
But it's okay. Because she still hasn't said, she told y'all he don't mean nothing and y'all had to go do this digging.
Yes. Yes.
But to me, I respect my mom. I understand what is right or wrong.
Yeah.
She protected us.
Uh-huh.
Okay, we are first. Okay? She's definitely gonna protect us. We had a father in our life. It's not like we was really missing anything.
Of course, you had one.
The only thing we were missing is the siblings.
Got it.
That's it.
I understand that. Okay.
Yes.
So what do you want to happen today?
I wanna find out who my siblings are.
We might find out.
You wanna know who they are?
You wanna know who they are?
You wanna know who they are?
Your siblings?
Okay.
Is one of your potential siblings, and I want y'all, everyone to meet her. Abby, come on out. Let's hear your side of the story. [APPLAUSE] [Speaker] Thank you for being here.
[Speaker] Thank you.
[Speaker] So did you know about Tony and Tony before they reached out?
No.
You did not?
I did not. I actually found out, Sean's wife, they had reached out to Sean's wife and then she got in touch with Ron and Ron contacted me and Amy both.
Got it, got it. Did you have a relationship with any of them?
I did.
I ended up meeting Sean and Ron around 18 years old.
Got it.
So we've been able to build a relationship over those years.
Okay then, got it. And you grew up with a sister, Amy, correct?
Oh yes.
And who allegedly has the same father.
Yes.
But she couldn't be here, but we still tested her as well just to confirm. So we'll get to those results later as well in the show. Did you have a relationship with your father growing up?
Not all the way through.
Yeah.
He was married to my mom until I was 2 years old. And then as a teenager, I'd reach out to him. So there was a couple times that I got to see him. We lived 20 minutes away from this man.
Got it.
There was times where we seen him here and there, and then once we got older and started to have kids and get married, he was around a little bit more, but our stepdad was there.
Got it, got it. So similar to what you said, like your first meeting, like he was inconsistent.
Yes.
So it seems like all of y'all have that same experience. Have you ever questioned whether or not he is your father?
Not really. I look a lot like him, a lot of the family members. I walk just like this man.
Got it, okay, yeah, got it. Okay, well Sean, who's one of your potential brothers, is here. So everyone, let's please welcome Sean to the stage.
To the show.
What's up, ladies?
Thanks, lady.
Good show.
Oh, thank you for being here.
Appreciate it.
Nice to meet you, Sean. Um, all right, so you were the first one to be contacted by Tanya and Sonia, right? Did you know about them at all before they reached out?
No, no.
Never heard of them as well? Never heard of them. Okay.
Heard about twins, but didn't know if it was the same twins or, I heard I had twin sisters that was born the same day I was born.
Oh wow.
Yeah.
And this is, your father told you this?
Or other people?
Several people told me. Okay, several people told you.
But he didn't tell me.
No, my father didn't tell me. Okay then. Only reason I was asking that is because you said that they were told, he told you all that there was—
He told me it was twins.
3 sets of twins.
3 sets of twins. And it was 10 of us all together.
Got it. Have you heard about other children your father may have had?
I heard I had an older sister, which would make him really young at the time, which, you know, I mean, it could have been. But then I heard I had younger brothers. But some, I also heard that was, he dated their mom, but he really wasn't. It wasn't his kids, so.
Got it, got it, got it. Okay, do you want the twins to be your siblings?
Yes.
You do, got it, okay. But you know, and this, I always have to prepare people for both realities. How will you feel if they aren't?
I don't know, I think it would be sad, but I think this relationship is gonna continue.
Got it, okay. Well, we have another potential brother that is here, so everyone please welcome Ron to the show.
You're such a mess.
Love you. You guys look good.
You look good too, my brother. Very nice to meet you, sir. Thank you for being here.
It's a beautiful family.
So I gotta ask you as well, did you ever hear about Tanya or Sonya growing up?
Not until my father had passed away and their names was on the obituary. And I was like, well, who are these? 2 ladies. And my stepmother told me, well, these are also possibly your sisters as well.
And how old were you at that point?
When did Dad die?
Yeah, about 6 years ago? You know, I'm 53, so.
So you were like well into your 40s at the time that you heard about that?
Yep.
Wow, all right, well listen, I think it's been long enough and I think it's time to unlock the DNA truth. [APPLAUSE] Because none of you have We confirmed Ronald is your father. You all took a DNA test to find out if you're siblings. So here we go first. Sean, this is your truth to open. And this DNA truth will tell you if you and Ron are brothers.
Okay.
Here you go.
Here you go.
All right, so.
Thank you.
What did you say, Sean?
Sean and Ron is biological brothers.
Yeah, yeah. All right.
Yeah.
I saw you got emotional there. What just went through your mind?
I'm a big crybaby, so.
That's good, but I'm sure there's a relief there. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, yeah. Well, the next DNA truth is for you, Abby. This truth will tell you if Sean and Ron are your brothers.
Okay.
Good gracious, I'm not ready for this. Reality of this is if both my parents have passed away, so if this doesn't come out, I don't know.
Yeah.
It'll be okay. It's gonna be okay.
It'll be okay.
We got you.
Still here.
I'm still here.
Don't worry.
Yes.
You're stuck with me. I got big brothers for life.
Well, Abby, your sister Amy couldn't be here today, and I don't usually do this because I believe this is other people's truths to open, but since she's not here, I will be reading this for her.
Okay.
All right, Abby, when it comes to your sister Amy, She is your full biological sister, as you already know that. Yes. Which means she is also Ron and Sean's, is your brothers, yes. I'll let you have that.
Thank you.
All right, so Tonya and Sonya, you are twins. Yes. So there's a possibility you could have different fathers. Brothers. You're aware of that, right?
Yeah.
Okay then. So Tanya, this DNA truth is for you first.
Thank you.
Here you go.
And my birthday's Christmas Day.
Okay.
This will be a present to me. Abby, Amy, Ron, Sean are not your biological siblings.
It don't make a difference. It does not make a difference. It does not make a difference at all.
Well, Sonya, um, You have your DNA truth as well. Yes. So here you go, this is your truth to open.
Yes, Abby, Amy, and Ronald and Sean are natural biological siblings. So it's okay, it's all right.
Again, y'all still family.
Y'all still family.
It really ain't changing much.
It's not gonna change anything.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's not gonna change anything at all.
But at least we got the truth.
You got the truth.
Yes, yes.
We're good. We're good. Yeah. So is it possible that the man who raised you could be your father then?
We don't know. But probably if he is, it would be great.
Great.
Yeah. Yeah. Definitely.
Because your mother has given you no other name.
No.
So, you know, I don't know. You need answers, and the only person who has those answers for us is your mom.
Right.
Yes. And I pray that she can give you those answers, because especially since the man who raised you was so good to you, and there is a possibility that he could be your father. I just wish that you would've had that confirmation, or your mother could give you that confirmation. Do you think when you get home she'd be willing to have a conversation with you, especially now that you know for sure that it's not Ronald?
She would have that conversation with us, but again, I'm good.
You're good.
I'm good, seriously.
You don't need to search anymore.
No, I don't need to, 'cause I only got one good father. Father. I hear that. He was a great man.
I hear that, I hear that. Yeah, I wanna give a shout out right now to all the caregivers and all those fathers and all those stepdads to step up to be there. Seriously. Cuz I know y'all are at home watching and it is a very hard, it's a hard position sometimes to step in when a child is not biologically yours, when a person is not biologically related to you. But a good person will step in and do it right. And clearly you've all had good people in your life who stepped in and did it right. And we gotta shout out to them. I'm glad that you all got your answers. I hope that you get even more clarity from your mother, but I'm glad you also have the love in your heart of this man. I'm glad you all now know your truth, and it looks like you all will still be connected to be a family no matter what.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Yeah.
Thank you for allowing me to come here and support you in this journey. I'm sorry it didn't turn out like we were hoping for you to get your clarity, but thank you for letting me be here to support you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Mm-hmm.
