Chapters
I've known Destiny my whole life.
2 years ago, we were texting, and then, like, out of the blue, he asked me out on a date.
I tried to talk to Destiny because I thought she was cute to put on my roster. I was a big hoe back then. A few days later, he didn't text me again and was like, "Never mind, because there's a possibility I could be your brother." My dad ended up finding out that me and her was texting, so he came to me and let me know Destiny actually can be my sister.
I was like, "What? How can you be my brother?" I almost dated my sister. I almost dated my brother.
After I found out that it was a possibility of Destiny being my sister, I just stopped trying to have ties with her like that.
This whole thing is too weird for me.
The crazy part is if I would never shot my shot at Destiny, I would've never found out about all this. I can have another sister and nobody was gonna tell me.
I need Karamo to tell me again that he's my sister.
I need this test for real, for real.
Yeah, you do. Listen, we'll talk to them a little later, but please first welcome Destiney's mom, Trina, to the show so we can hear her side of this story. Trina, that's wild.
It is, Karamo.
So how do you first find out about the two possibly dating?
My oldest daughter, Tamisha, she called me, she was like, "Ma, Destiney and Zari, is talking. So I was like, okay, I didn't think anything about it. And she was like, Ma, there's actually, Zari's actually trying to take her out on a date. So I was like, okay. She was like, never mind, Mom, I'll just call my dad.
Yeah.
So.
'Cause for you, you like, great, then fine, go have a date. It's fine, yeah.
So.
My producer told me that you had no idea that Destiny and Zari could have the same father.
Not at all.
How's that possible?
Not at all. Karamo, Tommy called, that's, Zari's father, he called me and he was like, so you don't remember that night? And I was like, no. He was like, how could you possibly forget? I was like, no.
Yeah. So let me be clear because I wanna make sense of this. So you were married when Destiny was conceived, correct?
I was.
You were married. But right now we know that Zari and Tamisha have the same father.
Correct.
Okay. I'm doing a little, the tree right here, okay. Zari and Tamisha, okay then. And so that's why when they were like, this could be your brother, you were like, it's nothing.
Right.
Okay, there we go. Like, that's what we needed up here. Okay, we need a little visual, right? Okay. So Tamisha, Zari, and then so Tamisha and Destiny have grown up together as siblings. Yes, yes. That's her sister.
Right.
So that's why when she called her sister and said, hey, I'm about to go on a date with Zari, your brother, You were like, fine.
Fine, 'cause they're—
They're not related.
Right.
But then we found out they could.
They possibly could be.
Okay.
As Tommy is saying, he's very persistent about she's his daughter.
Got it. Do you remember, and you said you don't remember having sex with Tommy?
I do not remember that night at all, Karamo.
At all. Okay.
I do not.
So yeah, so he's saying this, but you have no recollection.
I do not.
So he could have messed up a cute relationship over some drama like they don't even know.
Possibly. Possibly.
So what happened when you first brought Destiny home from the hospital?
So Destiny and my husband at the time, we was— Destiny and my husband at the time, we was at home and Tommy had my oldest daughter, the daughter we had together. He brought her home, it was Christmas. So Destiny, he came through the door and he was like, "This is my daughter and this is my wife." I understand. He was like, yeah, cool. So I was like, huh? Huh? What's going on?
Yeah. So did Tommy ever say anything to you about possibly being Destiny's father?
No, he never said anything after that. Nothing.
So what happened when Destiny first learned Tommy could be her father?
Oh my God, she was crushed. She was really hurt. She ran away. She ran away to her dad. He was out of town.
And so 'Cause her dad is the man that raised her.
Yes, all her life.
She's known her entire life as her father.
All her life as her father, yes.
All her life. Yeah, of course, and then all of a sudden you get this bombshell when you're supposed to be getting a date, now you got this bombshell that like the father. How's this affected Destiny? Is she doing okay?
I think it's affecting her a lot. She's still like, she's really concerned. She really wants to know. How, and I'm concerned for her because how is this gonna go either way? It's gonna take a big effect on her.
Of course it is.
Of course it is.
Of course it is. Who do you think is the father? The man of Destiny, do you think it's Tommy? Or do you think it's the man that raised her?
I do not, I do not, I do not. But he's persistent in saying he's the father.
But for you, you think the man that raised Destiny, that she's known as her father the entire life, is her dad?
Yes, yes. Okay then.
And you think Tommy just start mess?
Tommy, Tommy is Tommy, so I don't know.
Okay then. Well, I think it's time to hear Destiny's side of this story. So everyone, welcome Destiny to the show. Thank you for being here.
Thank you for having me.
Of course. So tell me, what was it like for you finding out that Tommy could be your father?
It was shocking. I was confused. Like, how is there a possibility when I have a dad?
Yes, of course. 'Cause the father that raised you, he's been a great father to you. That's the man that you know as dad.
Mm-hmm.
Did you talk to your mother about this at all at first?
At first, no. After talking to Zari, I went straight to my dad's answers.
She always has been a daddy's girl.
Yeah.
She's the baby girl, so.
Yeah.
So you went to him first?
Yes, he came and got me and I ran away to him.
You ran away from him. Do you believe your mother when she says she didn't know that Tommy could be your father?
No, I do not. 'Cause if I did not remember.
She talking about, I don't remember. What she talking about?
I don't remember that night at all. The night he brought me home, well, he reminded me. He was like, do you remember the night you brought me home? I brought you home from the hospital. I had had an asthma attack. He came and picked me up from the hospital. My husband at the time, we was separated. And it was a short period of time we was separated. But he brought me home from the hospital and he was like, you know, he was reminding me, "You don't remember that night?" He was like, "How possibly could you not?" Yeah.
So why did you, so you ran, you talking about you don't, did you, so you ran away from home because, was it just too overwhelming for you?
Yeah, it was a lot. Like all at once to be finding out this.
Yeah, 'cause you almost, you could have potentially be sleeping with your brother or dating your brother.
Dating, yeah.
Yeah. Oh my gosh. How's your relationship with Zari now?
We don't talk in that type of way, but we have a loving brother and sister relationship.
Yeah, okay. So have you and Tommy built a relationship since this all started?
Yes, we're very close. He's even involved in my life and in my kids' life.
Okay, good. Because you've known Tommy your life because that's your sister's father.
Yes.
Right.
So it's not like this is some stranger. You've known him.
Right. Yeah.
Makes sense. Did Tommy ever explain why he didn't call you all these years? Or claim you all these years? Did Tommy ever explain why?
He said that the person that was claiming to be my dad had told him to like stay away and he just stayed away to keep everything cool.
Yeah, 'cause that was your dad. So he's like, me and my wife are together.
And that's possibly how when he was saying like, this is my wife and this is my baby and you understand, cool. And I was like, I'm like, huh?
What's going on? Yeah, what's the issue? Yeah.
Yeah, I'm looking back and forth at both of them.
But now it makes sense to you.
Yeah, now it all trying to make sense.
Got it. Does it bother you that you're finding out all of this so late in life?
Yes, because my dad, he has always lived out of town my life and Tommy has always been in the city with us. To me, I would think it would've been better if I would've known earlier to actually spend some more time with Tommy.
Yeah, got it.
Do you think you would've ever learned about this if Zari didn't ask you?
Did that freak you out?
No. No.
Not at all.
No.
Yeah.
'Cause we had no idea. Yeah. I had no idea.
You had no idea.
No.
Wow. So if Tommy is your father, what happens with the relationship with the man who raised you?
We barely even have a relationship now, but to me, I'll be happy.
You'll be happy that Tommy is? Yes. 'Cause that would then make you and Tamisha Full sisters?
Yes.
Okay then. All right. Zari couldn't be here with us. He couldn't travel, so he is joining us via remote, via the phone for these DNA results. Zari, are you there?
Yeah, I can hear you.
You can hear me? Okay, great.
Yeah.
So how are you feeling about this? If you didn't try to ask out Destiny, we wouldn't be on this stage right now.
Nah, for real, I ain't gonna lie. When I found that out, they really shocked me. I ain't gonna lie.
Yeah. What's this about you and your roster though? Yo, don't think I didn't catch that.
That was like, you know how it be when niggas getting outta high school and all that.
Okay, so you collected rosters when you were in your younger days, right?
Yeah.
Okay, you matured now.
I got a new bad number now.
Okay, okay, just making sure. So what do you think? Do you think that Destiny is your sister?
Yeah, I think it's a possibility.
You think it's a possibility? Okay then, well listen, I think it's time to find the DNA truth out on this. Trina, I want you to come with me. Here we go. Trina, in that envelope is a night you possibly remembered or don't remember, okay? So because of your daughter being asked out on a date, we are here on this stage where your daughter could potentially have a new brother. So. This is your truth to open, not mine.
Well, I want to talk to her.
OK, yeah, you can.
Destiny, I'm your mother. I love you. I did not— I would never kept this from you if I knew. It was not a secret. I just didn't know, baby. And this is something we're doing 'cause you deserve to know. I'm here for you. I do not want you to run away. I'm here for you. I want you to run to me, to me with any questions or anything you have. Whichever way this goes, I love you. I'm your mom and I want you to come to me and anything you want, any questions, anything I can answer for you, okay? So are you ready? Yeah, I'm kind of nervous. I'm nervous.
I'm nervous.
I'm nervous.
Let me give you a piece of tissue. There you go.
Oh, I'm so nervous, y'all. I'm so nervous, and I know she is too. I can't even get it open. Tommy is Destiny's biological father. Oh my God.
Oh wow.
Thank you.
Oh my God, how do you feel right now?
I'm happy.
You're happy?
As long as she's happy.
That's the main thing, as long as you're happy. Exactly.
She got the answers that she need, y'all.
Thank you so much, Karamo. I just love how you—
Thank you.
You're welcome. You're welcome.
We appreciate that.
Yeah.
Oh my God. Oh my God.
Trina, that one night you ain't remember.
I did not. I did not.
That's where asthma attack turned into something more, okay? Hold baby. We're talking.
Oh my God. Oh my God.
It sounds like for me, What I'm looking at is that you have been in a space where you had a father that you were with, but probably right now the relationship is not the best. And it looks like that you're looking for connection. And the fact that you have your sister, you have your mother, and now you have Tommy who actively seems like he's trying to be in your life, it's probably making you happy.
Yes.
And I'm happy for that.
Thank you.
Because all you deserve as a child in this situation is love and support from all parties. And so if there is a father that is here that wants to be there for you. I'm so happy for that, okay? And your full sister now, Tamisha, she in the audience, right? Tamisha, you wanna come say hi to your full sister? That's your half sister. How you feel?
I feel fine.
Okay.
Go give your full sister a hug. Wow, that's crazy. That could have been your brother.
I said that. I would not have wanted it to happen.
Okay, thank God for you saying, hold on, something ain't—
I didn't want it to happen at all anyways because that's weird. My brother dating my sister anyways.
You was like, no.
Yes.
Well, thank God it didn't, for real. Thank y'all for being here and thank y'all for sharing your story with me. I really appreciate it.
We appreciate you being here. Thank you so much. I love what you do. I love how you bring the families together.
Thank you, I appreciate that.
Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you. All right, everyone, make sure to come back next time, friends, so we can keep talking and growing. I love you all.
Mm-hmm.
