Who's My Child's Father: My Man Or My Ex? | KARAMO

In this episode of The Karamo Show, host Karamo mediates a heated discussion among Markeia, her current partner Daryl, former partner Cornelius, and Cornelius' aunt Angel about the paternity of Marke's daughter, Malia. Markeia reveals a history of infidelity, uncertainty about the child's father, and a strained co‑parenting relationship with both Daryl and Cornelius. Daryl recounts his own doubts, past break‑ups, and recent attempts to re‑engage with Markeia. Cornelius, who previously lived with Markeia to help with the children, expresses frustration at being left out of the parenting equation. After a tense dialogue, Karamo presents a DNA test result confirming Daryl as Malia’s biological father. Both Daryl and Markeia react positively, while Cornelius acknowledges the result but maintains his desire to support the children. Karamo closes by urging the parties to establish clear, written boundaries for future interactions to protect the kids from further conflict, emphasizing mature communication and shared responsibility.
Chapters
Why do you have doubts of Darrell being the father?
Because in the beginning I was messing with my other baby daddy, which is the father of my son.
Okay, I love your honesty and transparency.
I was, and I was confused on who was the father.
Okay, and how does that make you feel?
It makes me nervous 'cause I do not want another kid by him. I do not at all. That's very clear, yeah. Like, he is not the person that I've see myself being with.
What has it been like co-parenting with him? Just to—
It's been off and on. Like, he's a good dad, but as a person, he's not a good person to me.
Got it. Cornelius and his Aunt Angel are here and we will talk to them a little bit later, just to let everybody know. But my producer said that Cornelius just moved out of your house?
Yes, he did.
Okay.
He was living with me for almost a year due to the fact I didn't have any support with my kids.
Got it. So he was there stepping up, but y'all weren't dating?
No, not at all.
Okay, mm-hmm. So he was just supporting you with it? He was just a, "No, no, at all." So how long have you and Daryl been together?
4 years off and on. After he moved, it was kind of like a very big distance between us.
Yeah. So why did he leave when you were pregnant then?
I'm not gonna lie, he did catch me cheating. We had a phone plan together. And you know how you can mute messages?
Yeah.
So I muted the messages with the boy, but he end up with having to fix the phone. So he clicked on it and he saw it.
Got it.
And so it was just like—
So were y'all broken up at that time or were you—
We were together.
You were together.
When that happened, yes.
Oh, so you being a little shady and toxic. Okay, I see it. Okay, so you cute, came out here all cute. She like, nah, nah. Okay, okay, so there's still some growing to do.
It's still some growing to do.
I respect that, okay.
Yeah.
And then he ended up dating someone else?
When he moved outta state, he did.
Okay then, and how'd that make you feel?
That made me feel horrible because she ended up getting pregnant and she got to experience him being there for her and her baby.
Got it, and not for you with that time. So how did you and Darryl get back together?
He messaged me on Facebook recently and he wanted, he apologized and he wanted to step up for our daughter.
Oh nice, okay. Do you think you're ready for that? And that's an honest question. There's no judgment.
A part of me wants it, but a part of me is scared. I'm scared because he's kind of the type that when things get hard, he bails.
Got it. So you're in a space where you're ready to actually make that commitment, figure it out, but you're still a little fearful that maybe he's not ready to fully be emotionally available and work through the hard moments.
100%.
I can understand that. All right, well everyone, let's bring Daryl out so we can hear what he has to say about all this. So everyone, please welcome Daryl to the show. So what are your thoughts about what's been going on?
My thoughts right now is a little skeptical, just depending on how things went in the past.
Yeah.
And you know, a lot of things I just can't let go and I just felt like we just gotta move forward with everything.
So what happened on Christmas Day?
On Christmas Day, she was supposed to come get me at around 8 in the morning. It turned out that she was out in Gainesville with her baby father on Christmas Day and that's why she ain't come and pick me up early that morning. You know, I had no clue. You know, on the way back home, what really bothered me was, it's the fact that she told me how she feels about me. She want this and that and that. But just a few days after, Korn telling me about what happened on Christmas Day. Y'all sleep together?
Did y'all sleep together?
Yes.
Mm.
Got it. Okay, so that's why it even hurt you a little bit more. 'Cause it's like she's back with him. She's also sleeping with him. Got it. Was she pregnant at the time? Were you pregnant at the time? She was. So you were pregnant at the time?
Yes, I was.
So it was a double whammy for you in a sense. Mm-hmm. Okay. Is that why you went back to Oklahoma?
Well, that wasn't, that was one of the reasons, but my also reasons was I was also running away from my problems. You know, I've done lost a place, you know, I was staying with somebody, I done lost a job and it was just a lot in the mix. It was just piling and piling and piling and I just kind of had this sense that, you know what, I feel like I just need to start fresh. I need to go find the happiness I wanted to find before. Before and I just couldn't find it before. But then when I did make that move, it was one of the biggest regrets that I've—
Got it.
I wish I could just go back and change things, but things don't stay the same.
Yeah, I'll tell you, release that regret, just if I can give you any little small advice. Yeah, of course. Because there was a lesson that you needed in that moment. You're still young and that lesson sometime when you're gonna be 30 or 40 is gonna come back to you and you're gonna be like, ah, that's why I need to be there. And just know that that's just helping you to become a better man. But you're back now. Are you feeling happier?
Way happier.
You're happier now?
More confident than before.
Good, good, good. Okay, that's good to know. And what is the status of you two right now?
Right now we're in a relationship currently, but we're in the process of like trying to figure out if my daughter is really mine.
Okay, 'cause that information would help to figure out like where we're really moving forward.
Yes, sir.
All right, and you told my producers that you are plan B for Darrell. You feel so? Why do you think you're plan B?
Because when he did go and get the girl pregnant, I felt like that kind of made him feel a kind of way. It was like, dang, like I don't have anyone. So, you know, I have her. So maybe I could go back to her and create a family.
Got it. But wouldn't that be the same feeling he would've had when you was over there with Cornelius on Christmas Day?
Yeah. Okay, okay, okay.
Yeah.
I'm just saying, I'm just saying. So, 'cause the reason I bring that up is not to, You didn't talk about your character or anything, but to say have empathy for each other. Well, I think it's time that we meet Cornelius and his aunt Angel who are joining us remotely. So both of you, welcome to the show. Cornelius, let me ask this to you. Is there a chance that her daughter could be yours? Not the giggle, not the laugh. I feel like he wanted to say, that's what that gave you right there, right? That's what that gave, okay. So I'm assuming you don't feel He feel like he could be. So in your point of view, you don't think you could be?
No, sir.
Okay. But yet you stepped up and been taking care.
That's how I was raised.
Okay. Okay. Jeron Cornelius, what are your thoughts on all of this?
Me personally, like, I just feel like Markeia just need to take her time, like focus on herself, you know? Like being as a woman, like I understand, like I know, I know her, like I know her more than Daryl know her, like, you know, like regardless how long they been together, you know, like, and you think you know, take their time more understanding and how like the future, like you get what I'm saying, because this is serious, you know, it's been inconsistent with him being in and out their life and I'm, I'm kind of upset about it because I be in the mix, like I be forced to have to step up more than what, you know, than he ever did and it's like, you don't know that, you don't know what I'm capable of my guy.
You really don't know. You have no clue who I am and you don't know who my father is. I've been raised to be a man. You know what I'm saying? Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone do what they gotta do. But now I'm stepping in and I'm the big boy now.
I'm proud of you.
Facts. I'm the big boy now.
Okay, all of y'all, ain't none of us know Darryl had that in his chest.
Did we?
I felt it. I heard. I gotta say, I don't care. All right, all right, I feel you.
All right, I need to be congratulating my nephew for stepping up and helping take care of your daughter as well as his child too, because anybody was in a relationship, they beat on her, they did other things to her, but my nephew still came around and took up and took care of both of those kids with no question.
Is that cool? I appreciate you, but at the end of the day, I'm here.
You don't have to like him.
I'm here because I want to It's crazy. Hey, hey, it's crazy because your son told me the other day, your son told me the other day that he liked me more than you. Facts.
Facts.
I didn't even tell your mama. Your own son said that.
It's not a problem, Marquis. I'm not worried about what you said.
All right.
You feel me?
Hold on. But Cornelius, you just said something I thought was interesting. You said that you feel like if you still want to be here, you could. You told my producer that you said you just left Markela's house last week. Is that true?
It was about 3 weeks ago.
Cap, that was about 2 weeks ago, my guy. When you see me outside kissing her and you got mad and you ran.
I didn't run.
You ran, bro. You went right back to Gainesville where you came from.
I wanted to get on your ass. That is why I left.
All right, boy. Say what you want, man.
You want to know the truth and you know what time it is.
That's cool. Yeah, I got all the time.
I appreciate this. I got a bit of perspective right now. I wanna talk to you a little bit more. Cornelius and Angel, thank you for your perspective. I'm gonna come back to you a little bit later. I appreciate it. Thank you both for being here. So I wanna know, because it sounds like you said that when y'all saw each other and you were kissing in front of the house and he left, that there is some animosity there. Do you all talk to each other like this in person?
No, I've actually really don't speak to him. I ain't spoke to him in actually a couple years and he's, It's been a couple years. I really never had no exchange words for him.
Got it, yeah.
But after the time he's got this to say about me, he got this to say, this to say, but hey, I got a whole lot to say back.
Got it. Do you think if they were both on stage together they would be interacting like this?
Yes.
You do? Yeah, 'cause you've seen it. Okay. Are you hoping this is your child?
Yeah, of course.
You are?
Of course, I'm confident.
You're confident this is your child? And you said you want this to be, you want Darrell to be the father? Yes. Mm-hmm. If this is your child, what steps do you wanna take in this relationship?
Well, I've been working on a lot, me personally, mentally, physically. Whenever I did come back to you, came back with a car, came back with a place. You know, I've been wanting to up my game for the longest. I want my daughter to look at me like, you know what, this is the type of dad I wanna be around. I want your son to look at me like, you know what, this is the type of man I wanna be around. You know, this is a big stepping stone. I feel like that's just how I've been raised and I feel like I'm gonna keep it that way. You got it.
How does that make you feel hearing that?
It kind of makes me a little emotional.
Yeah.
Just because like I really, I really want a family with my kids. They deserve to have a mom and dad, somebody that they don't have to see fight 'cause they, that's all they seen with Cornelius is fighting and I don't like that. 'Cause they seem to go through a lot. And I really love my kids, I'd give 'em the world. I swear to God I would. But I need a man that's gonna be here, that's gonna be here for me and them.
[Speaker:KARAMO] Okay, got it. So I think it's time to get to the DNA truth of this matter. [APPLAUSE] So, Mykila, We know that we have both Darrell and Cornelius who could potentially be the father. You've had questions, you've had your own doubts, you've been open about it. In this envelope, it has the DNA truth. This is a moment for all of y'all. So Darrell, I'm actually gonna give this to you. This is your truth to open in this moment. If you could please read the results out.
Malia is your biological daughter.
Well, you have your answers. How do you feel?
I feel good.
You feel good in this moment? What about you?
I do feel good.
This is what you were hoping for? I do feel good. Okay. And so Cornelius, you now know the truth. You already felt like this wasn't your child, though you did say that though you'll still try to support her in the best way. How are you feeling in this moment?
You know, this is what I already knew. You know, this is just confirming, you know?
Yeah.
I just wanna see the best for them, you know?
It's no love lost.
Yeah, it's no love lost. Like I said, I want the best for them. You know, I wish them the best. Like I don't have no hatred, you know? I just want the kids to be happy. You know, that's the most important thing.
Well, I'm glad you're saying that. At the end of the day, I do understand there's been an entanglement here, emotions of going back and forth. There's been distrust, dishonesty, and all of you have been affected by each other in some way or another. And so that has led y'all to all have these feelings with each other where it gets heated. You have these arguments. And so I can't look at this situation and find one person at fault because each of you have made choices in this relationship which has triggered each other. But at the end of the day, what I appreciate about what you're saying, Cornelius, and I appreciate about you, Angel, Darryl, you said this as well, is that at the end of the day, these kids. And so I do believe what needs to happen now is clear boundaries about how everyone will interact with these kids. And how the interactions with the kids will be expressed to each other, meaning the communication between you all as adults. I think let's not leave anything to chance. I think the minute y'all get done with this show, go and write it down. This is how I wanna communicate. If something happens with her, this is how I want it to be. If there's gonna be a pickup, this is how it needs to be. Write it down now while there's still calmness, while there's still clarity, while you're in this moment of celebration so that way you can put the priority of what needs to happen for those kids first. And that way nothing's gonna re-trigger y'all in a week where you find something that Cornelius left over the house and now you pissed and now you defending yourself. Now Cornelius about to, y'all going at it and now we forget about the kids. So I'm asking for those kids' sake, which y'all are in that same space, do that now and then just have the best relationship for these kids' sake. Y'all are all young, but y'all all are mature enough to know that y'all wanted to be better and that's what I appreciate about y'all.
Yes, sir.
Yeah. How do y'all feel right now? Everybody good?
Good? Yes, sir.
Yes. All right, good. Well listen, I wish y'all the best of luck and I wish these kids the best of luck.
Seriously.
I'm happy for you. You're very welcome, love. You're very welcome.
Thank you, man.
You're welcome as well. You're welcome. Listen, I really wish y'all the best of luck. I wanna get an update from y'all in a little bit, okay? I'm gonna check in on y'all, okay?
Appreciate you.
