The Sacred Writing Podcast Episode #165

Host Keira Brinton (The Sacred Writing Podcast, Ep. #165) uses personal storytelling — a recent tattoo experience and a car-buying parable — to teach a core business principle: "sales is service." She contrasts selfish selling (listing features, giving up when obstacles arise) with selfless selling (listening, creating what the client needs, "going to bat" for them, and acting as the buyer who chooses who to work with). The episode includes practical advice for entrepreneurs on running sales calls, creating offers on demand, and prioritizing client transformation over product features, plus a CTA to book a sales call with the host.

Foreign. To the Sacred Writing Podcast. I am your host, Kira Brenton, and I'm so excited because this podcast has been bubbling up for about five days, and I have not had a second to record it. So I woke up at 5am and I'm here before I take my kids to school, recording this episode for you because it is so loud, it is so important, and I believe that this episode could actually change the success of your business. So, yes, I am a sacred writing coach. Yes, I am a book medium. I am a publisher. But underneath everything at the heart of it all, I love business. And I believe so deeply that if you don't know how to run business, you don't get to actually go out and change the world. So you and I, we get to talk about business today. We get to talk about entrepreneurship. And of course, it's going to be so much fun. And of course it's going to be layered and flavored with spirituality, because that is the only way I run business. So are you ready? So excited. So we're going to start off with a story. I love stories because they actually go into the subconscious mind. And you may understand something consciously. Like, I may teach you principles and steps and how to do something, and that's at a conscious level. But when I teach you a story or a parable, what happens is you actually learn it at a subconscious level. Which is why when I help people write books, I always invite them to tell stories along with principles. The stories help someone actually understand it at a deeper level in their body, allowing them to remember it. So if you were to think back to some time in your life when you were learning something and you were taught principles, but then they told you a story that was the example of those principles, you would always remember the story first. That would then teach you the principles that you were learning. This is how we write books. This is how I'm going to podcast with you today. Okay. So on Friday, I got my very first tattoo. And I would say that is one of the boldest, bravest things I've ever done. Especially well, mostly because I was raised orthodox Mormon lds. And I was just so deeply. It was so deeply ingrained in me that you don't get a tattoo like that is something we're taught from the very beginning. And I actually, I love so much of the LDS religion, and I am so grateful that I was taught the way I was taught. And rewiring belief systems is a heck of a journey. And for six years, I've been wanting to put some words on my left arm. Last week, I shared the episode where I shared my story of six years ago, when I chose to live. And since that day, I have written words and mantras on my left arm more times than I can count. It has been a place of remembrance for me. It's been a place of like, this is where I choose to live and not choose to die. And so this idea of a tattoo on my left wrist has felt so deeply important to remind myself one that I lived in a time when I didn't want to, and also to remind me of how powerful and strong I am. But it took six years for me to unwind that belief system and also for me to really step out on my own in this world. So this last Friday, I went and I got my very first tattoo that says Joan of Arc's words. I am not afraid. I was born to do this. Now, one of the things I know is that when my body goes into extreme conditions, I leave my mind. And it's when my guides, my spiritual guides, my angels can speak to me the clearest. Which is why I love to cold plunge. I talk about that all the time. If you follow my Instagram, I'm a big believer of cold plunging. It's the fastest way that I reset my nervous system. And it's where my angels and guides talk to me because my body goes into a form of shock. And then I drop out of my mind and I drop into my heart so clearly that I can hear my angels and my guides. Well, what happened when I got this tattoo was that it was really painful for me. I mean, she was literally tattooing right on the veins of my inner left forearm. My fingers went numb. It was so painful that I dropped out of my head, out of my mind, and into my heart. And I could hear my angels and my guides and they had many things to teach me while I was in that place of surrender. And one of the things I heard was, today you get a car. I bet you didn't think that was what I was gonna say. Let me tell you a little backstory. So the last seven, eight years, I have driven a 12 seater Ford Transit, which is like what Amazon drives. And I have loved it. I called it the adventure bus. I would take trips with my kids every summer for months at a time to California, to my parents cabin. I mean, this car has been such a beautiful place of adventure and also friends. I mean, 12 seats, I could pack that baby full. But I got in a car accident last year. I'm so grateful my Son was safe, but he was driving and a drunk driver hit him. And we didn't drive that car for 10 months. It took 10 months for them to fix our van. And in those 10 months, I drove a smaller car that I was rented out, right? They gave me a rental and I realized that like I was over driving a 12 seater. And when my 12 seater came back, it was pretty rickety. Like pieces of the ceiling were falling off. Like I had to climb in through the passenger car door to get to my driver's seat. So I would like go to a business function and I'd have to crawl into the passenger door. And every time I drove that car, I was like frustrated. Like, this is not what I'm supposed to be driving. This is frustrating, this is annoying. Everything's falling apart. So I've been wanting a new car. Not to mention that I drive like three hours a day when I have my kids and the gas in that beast is hecka expensive. So I've been praying for a new car and also, you know, not top priority. So when I'm getting my tattoo and I hear, today you get a car, I laughed. I was like, that is not on the agenda today. And like, I know how hard it is to get a loan as a self employed entrepreneur. It's so hard, especially the way I've done my taxes. It's so hard. So I'm like, all right, angels, all right. I got like, I'll see what you guys can pull off. So I go to two dealerships and the first dealership, this is the car I thought was so cool. It was the Atlas. I loved it. And I get in it and it just doesn't feel right. I'm like, oh, it's just like, I love the way this looks, but like it just doesn't feel right. I don't like driving it. And I say to her I'm self employed. And she's like, oh, this is going to be really hard to get a loan. And I was like, oh, awesome. She's like, well, like maybe call your, you know, I have usa. She's like, call them and see what they can do. And then like, let me know. So I leave feeling a little bit discouraged. So I go to the next place I go to Jeep Cherokee and I get in the Jeep and I actually love the way it looked. But I get in it and I'm so like, oh, I don't love it. Then I turn on the blinker and it was like so annoying. And I was like, oh, I hate the Sound of this blinker. And. But I was like, but whatever. Like, I can get over the sound of a blinker. It's going to be fine. So I tell him I'm self employed. And he said, oh, this is going to be really hard to get you alone. I was like, awesome. So I left there feeling super discouraged. Neither of them followed up with me and neither of them really acted like they cared. That's fine. I'm just saying this because this matters. Third dealership. I finally get to the Kia dealership and I really, really, really wanted to tell you, right? But I know they're very hard to find. One of my very deep, like, very, very best friends, Amanda, she's actually been on the podcast Amanda Loveland, she told me, you've got to get a Telluride, but they're impossible to find. If you can find one, this is what you need. So I drive up to the Kia dealership and I walk up and I say, do you guys have a Telluride? And he was like, oh my gosh, we haven't had one in months. Someone just pre ordered this, couldn't get financing. It's right here. And I would hear, okay, so here's another really important piece that at the Jeep dealership they had this really deep maroon, red color of a car. And I was like, who would drive that? Like, that's so loud and bold and. And he just like laughed and I was like, I would never drive that car. Okay, so ready? I say that fast forward. I'm at the Kia and the only Telluride they have and have had in months, the only Telluride in Idaho is this deep maroon lava color and it's white leather inside. And I strangely fall in love the second I sit inside it. So it wasn't when I saw it, it was when I got inside of it and I sat at the seat and I was like, oh, this is my car. It felt so right. I started driving it and I'm like, oh, like, this is my car. And he didn't even tell me 90% of the bells and whistles of this car. I just loved the way I felt. And I looked at him and I'm like, I want this car. And then I said, but I can't get a loan. I'm self employed. He's like, well, where's your, you know, tell me about your W2 is like, no, no, I like write everything off. It shows that I make almost nothing. And he looked at me and he said, I will get you a loan. And I Laughed at his face, like, okay, buddy, if you can get me a loan, I will buy this car tonight. And he's like, I got you. This is your car, and I will get you that loan. Sure enough, 90 minutes later, not only did they get me a loan, but they had everything set ready to go. And I left that dealership in the most beautiful car I have ever driven. Yes. Such a beautiful story. So excited about my new car. But why am I telling you this? Because as a business owner, as an entrepreneur, you are here to fight for those that you are selling to. Let me rephrase this. Most entrepreneurs have to sell their product, right? Most of us aren't. We don't have sales reps right away. We are the sales rep. We are the entrepreneur. We are the business mind. We're the creator. We're the fulfiller. We wear all the hats. And many entrepreneurs don't want to sell their product. Let me tell you that if you don't know how to sell, you don't have a business. If no one's buying your product, you don't have a business. So you've got to learn how to sell. But the mistake is, is that most people will go and tell you all the things about their business. No one gives a crap. He did not sit there and tell me every little bell and whistle about that car. Instead, he let me just experience it and feel it. And when he saw that I loved how it felt, he went to bat for me. He went and pulled strings and got me that loan. And now when I'm driving down the road 30 minutes in, in my beautiful, luxurious white leather car, and my seats are heated and my steering wheel is heated, all of a sudden, the chair starts to massage my lower back. Yeah. Did you know that cars do that? I did not know that. And at first I'm like, what is happening? And then across the screen, it says, lower lumbar massage and process. And every day, I'm delightfully surprised of what's in my car. Every day I'm like, oh, my gosh. What? I didn't even know that the ceilings were gray suede until I bought it. And the next day, I looked up and there was gray suede. So I'm pleasantly surprised every day. I did not buy that car because of the gray suede or because it had a lower lumbar massage or because the steering wheel was heated. I did not buy it for those reasons. I bought it because of how I felt when I got inside the car. People will never buy your product or your Programs because of the bells and whistles. They will buy it because of how they feel, how you make them feel. I have had many people spend $25,000 with me and then email me the next day and say, I have no idea what I bought. That is how I want every sales call to go, because that means that I help them feel the possibility, what is in their future. And it was not because of my programs. It was because of what I created for them on that sales call. And then every time that they meet with me or every time they're in my program, they're going to be pleasantly surprised because I already have all the bells and whistles. Like, everything is involved. I've got courses, I've got coaching, I have support for them. I have everything they need. They don't actually need to know that because I already have it. Just like I didn't need to know what the car had it already had it. It had everything I needed. That's not why I bought it. I bought it because of how I felt. Your job is to create that environment for your client on that sales call. And how you do that is you listen to them and you hear what they need and then you go to bat for them. So those first two beautiful sales reps, they were lazy. They were lazy. And I would call it selfish selling. Both of them told me all about the bells and whistles of the car. And when I told them that I had a hard time getting alone, they just were like, oh, I don't really want to play this. And so they gave up and I walked away with no car. And the third guy, not only did he sell me a car that was more money than I was planning on spending and the color that I said I didn't want, but do you know why he did? Because he went to bat for me, because he fought for me. And because of him, I have a car, a brand new car that I love. And every day I'm driving, it is like literally the most delicious drive of my life because he went to bat for me. So it is your job as a sales rep of your business, of your products, to go to bat for your clients. You're going to fight like hell for them. You're going to fight for their dreams. If you don't fight for their dreams, they're not going to have their dreams. So I look at it all the time when I'm on a call with a potential author. If I don't fight for them and they tell me, oh, I can't afford this Right now. And I say, okay, well, I'll talk to you later. Guess what? 90% chance they're never going to write that book. What a tragedy. 90% like they're just not going to write it because they're not going to. They need my support. They need my publishing house to be able to publish their book. And so it's my job to fight like hell for them. And if I show up and I fight like hell for them and they still say no, well, at least I know I did my part. But when I fight like hell for them, it is not me telling them about my business. I am not there telling them. You get a mastermind every week. You're going to get professional editing and formatting and I'm going to be here to coach you. Like, I will mention that for about four minutes of the sales call. That's it. Four minutes of the sales call is all I'm going to mention that the rest is all about their vision, what is in their heart and what is in their soul. And then allowing them to be in a safe environment where they can believe it to be true. I create a safe environment for everyone who comes on a sales call with me, that the dreams that are in their heart can actually become reality. Because I know they can. I'm not blowing smoke. I know 100% everybody who works with me is going to write a book and publish it. That is a non negotiable thing for me. So if someone comes and they have a vision to write a book, I hear it. I create a fertile ground for them so that they know that their dreams being planted in my listening are believed. And then I'm going to go to fight for them and I'm going to help them move past their fears and limitations. Because that's all a sales call is. It's you showing up, listening and then showing them what is actually possible. So I want you, listener right now to let go of whatever fears you've had around sales calls, around anything of being a slimy sales rep, of anything that says you hate sales calls. If you say I hate sales calls, that also means you're saying I hate making an impact. We do sells differently over here. Every time. Before I meet with a new potential client, I pray for them. Before I get on my zoom call, I call in their angels. Before I get on that zoom call, I bless them that, that they will have the money to be able to pay for my products. Because that money that pays for my products brings them their dream into reality. So this is not about me making money. This is about me making an impact. As you do this work and you shift your ideas around sales, you will impact more lives. You will make more of a difference. And my goal every time on a sales call is that somebody's life changes just by being on that sales call. Whether they work with me or not, their life changed for the better. That's the goal, that's the intention, and that is selfless selling. One of the greatest blocks in the way of success is when we're thinking about ourself during a sales call and how that would look is that if you are on a sales call with someone and they're talking, and the whole time in your mind you're thinking, okay, how am I going to get them to pay this amount of money? And do I think they have enough money to pay for this? And are they going to say yes to me? And this is all while this potential client is talking and your brain is running. And this is normal. This is called being human. If this happens to you, welcome to humanity. Okay? This is the thing that you get to clear out. So when this potential client is speaking to you, you get to listen like you've never listened before. You get to hear where they need support, where are they struggling, where can you hold them? And then I'm gonna teach you what Richie Norton taught me, who was my greatest teacher on this principle of cells, which is you create what they need. You create what they need, meaning you hear what they need, and then you feel it. And sometimes that means you're making up a brand new product. I did that recently. Three months ago, someone came in and they didn't want to write a book yet, but they needed and I made up a program right there then and there on the zoom call. All right, this is what we're going to do. We're going to work once a week for 30 minutes. It's going to cost this much money. Boom. New product was made to fulfill the need that she had. So easy. Why are we always trying to take a client and make them fit into what we've created instead? How about we just always be in service and hear what the client needs, and then we create it for them in the boundaries that work for us. Okay, there's one last piece that I cannot look over. This is something I learned from Ben Hard. Benjamin Hardy. He is one of my favorite humans and was one of my very first coaches. He's massively changed my life in so many ways. He teaches the principle, always be the buyer. So that Means that you are actually interviewing your client on a sales call. I'm always checking in. Does my energy like this person? Do I want to work with them? Do I want to spend time with them? Because that's my work. My work is that I actually channel with people. When I channel with someone, I actually go inside their energetic body. That's why I can feel how people feel. If you ever watch my channeling sessions, I can actually like, hey, I feel a pain in your upper back. And they're like, yeah, there it is. Why? Because I literally go inside someone's energetic body so I can channel easier for them. And with them I have to love this person I'm going to work with. And if I'm not a holy hell yes for them, I do not sell them my product. I am the buyer. I may be selling them something, but I'm the buyer. I'm choosing who comes into my masterminds and who works with me one on one. I choose what books I publish. I don't publish boring. And I say that every single day. When I'm on a sales call and someone comes in and they just want to write a book, to write a book so that they can be an author, I'm like, I don't publish boring shit. If you want to come back and write a book that's going to change the world, then let's play. But other than that, like I don't play here. I'm the buyer. I'm the buyer. You are the buyer for your world. Especially if you are running programs where there are groups of people or you're working one on one. The energy of a mastermind is so imperative. It is like it has to be clean, it has to be powerful and you get to hand pick who comes in. So that's why I love having digital courses. Because if someone's not either they can't financially join my person to person programs, they can at least have a course which is going to be tremendously cheaper. Or if someone I don't really know if I want to work one on one with or in my mastermind, I can sell them a course. But even sometimes I don't really want to play in that person's energy at all. So I don't offer them anything and instead I refer them to someone else who I think could serve them. Because this is self less selling, which means I don't want anyone to leave without support. So if you're not going to get it with me, let me show you where you can have it. If you can follow this model. One, you're going to love taking sales calls because it's just service at a higher level. Two, your business is actually going to explode because you're going to show up and have a sales call like nobody else has experienced. Most people are used to the selfish selling, which is somebody pushing their business on you, which is something trying to convince you to buy their work. This, on the other hand, hand is you listening. You're being listened to as the client. You are being heard. And the way that you feel is going to guide you to purchase that program, that product, be that sales rep, be the car dealership who didn't bat an eye when I told them I couldn't get a loan, who literally looked at me straight in the eyes and said, I will get you a loan tonight. Who sold me a car that I would have never imagined buying for the price and the color. But he went to bat for me and he made it happen. And that, my friend, that is what your clients need you to do. They need someone to first believe in their dreams. They need someone to hear them. They need someone to love them and then go to freaking bat for them. They need someone to fight like hell for them because their mission and their purpose and their dreams are so important. And without you, they may not ever see them realized. So stop making this shit about you, because it's not about you. It's all about them. It's about what they need, and you have the work that fulfills their needs. Stop hiding your work. Stop saying you hate stuff sales, because that means that you aren't serving at the capacity that you totally could be serving at. Let's rewire our brains, our minds, around cells. Sales is service. When you do it like this, go change someone's life, go impact their world, Go make their dreams come true. But to do it, you have to sell them into your work. And they will be forever grateful that you showed up for them, that you fought for them, that you believed in their dreams. Let's change the conversation on cells. Because you have mighty work, my friend. And if you can figure this out, you will be able to continue to create business an extraordinary rate. You'll be able to create massive impact in people's lives and you will love what you do. So there you go. That's the parable of the three cards and the salesman who fought like hell for me. I hope you loved it. This is one of my favorite topics. I'm going to be probably doing more entrepreneurship episodes here and there because I love business. Marketing is impact. Sales is impact. Business means you're making a difference. And when we rewire our brains around how we look at business, we create more success and way more impact in the world, which is what I am all about. So, with that being said, if you would like to get on a sales call with me and have me fight like hell for your dreams and also for you to experience what this is like and for you to write your book, then I want you to click the link in my show notes or just head over to Instagram at Kira Brenton and send me a dm. I'd love to talk to you about the book that's in your heart. I would love to help you achieve the dream that's inside of you of becoming an author and spreading a message that's going to go change someone's life. And I'm so excited to meet you, to hear your visions and to help you make that a reality. All right, my friend, have the most beautiful day, and I will see you next week on the Sacred Writing Podcast.
