You know what a patellar reflex is, right? A doctor taps your knee, which causes your thigh muscle to jerk, which causes your leg to kick. Works like a charm. Also known as a knee jerk. Tap a tendon, kick a leg, try to stop it, and you can't. Your brain is not involved. You have no choice in the matter. There is no space between the stimulus and the reaction. That's what we're here to talk about, the space between the stimulus and the reaction. In just about every human activity, we have free choice in that space. We call it the moment. There is an opportunity in the moment, that space between stimulus and response, a chance to do something different than the way that you've always done it and ask a question. What's working with this challenge? What's not working? A chance to create, not just react. It's how innovation begins, with a question. Because the alternative to a question is don't ask, that's the way we've always done it. Innovation happens in the moment, and it always begins with a question. Don't be afraid to ask it. Consider Remote Leadership, a virtual process of coaching and microlearning videos for the transformation of your organization.
