Leo Bottary wraps up his series on high-performing peer groups by examining leadership. The best leaders are embedded in the group, model behavior, and act as stewards of the other four critical factors: right people, psychological safety, valuable interaction, and accountability.

Hi, this is Leo Bottari with the What Anyone Can Do Minute. You know, as we wrap up our little exploration here into the 5 factors that are common to high-performing peer groups, I want to talk about leadership. And leadership is really, really important. What we found is we looked at groups, you know, here in the US and throughout the world, whether there was a member leader or a designated, you know, outside leader who was a facilitator of the group, having some level of leadership in the group was really, really essential. Now regardless of what form that leader takes, what we did understand and learn, I think, was that the most effective leaders were those that weren't apart from the group, they were a part of it. They modeled the way, they led by example, they participated in their groups in the same way their members do. And with that, to be that servant leader, to be there for the group and not for yourself, and also to be that person who serves as the steward of those other 4 factors, making sure you've got all the right people in the room, that it's safe, that the interaction's valuable, and everyone's accountable. That's the magic of great group leadership.
