1 Week Out - Road To Ironman

Lucas Wilhelm Hedenbäck is one week out from his Ironman 70.3 in Jönköping, Sweden. He ran a race simulation with a 2 km swim, 70-75 km bike at 31 km/h average, and 15 km run at 5:20 min/km pace. For the first time, he's using gels and carb powders instead of his usual whole-food nutrition strategy.

Fingers crossed it's not gonna look like this on race day. Then we have a big problem. It's crazy. One. Week out from the half distance. How are we feeling? Feeling pretty good. Pretty good. Should be on track. We're gonna do a kind of race simulation tomorrow, very low, I guess, low impact. But yeah, and take it pretty easy, but just, you know, get a feel for all the distances. I mean, we, we kind of already have, uh, some weekends, but yeah. The nutrition part. Yeah, try the nutrition part as well. Obviously I'm going completely against all my principles and philosophies with, uh, putting down gels and carb powders and stuff like this, but I'm putting this in an equation in my head, um, the pros Outweighs the cons in this situation, and I guess that's with everything in life. Everything comes with a bit of a cost, and in this case, not having gels, not having carb powders is gonna. I mean, yeah, to be honest, it's not even on the table. So we have to do make do with that, using a bit of honey and some juice as well. But Some gels will have to be put through this temple, unfortunately. But it's not the end of the world. It's only a couple of times, and it's hopefully not gonna kill us. Hopefully. We'll find out. Yeah, we'll find out. But yeah. So doing a bit of an outdoor workout today. It's not been a lot of training, or gym, I guess, training over the last couple of months, but Averaging maybe 2 sessions per week, just focusing on keeping the strength and a shit ton of cardio. Um, but yeah, life's good. Super excited for the first race next weekend. Now we're gonna get back to the workout. Hold the nose. Workouts are done. Great session, nothing crazy. Now we're gonna fuel up, get some carbs in us for tomorrow's, um, Race simulation as well. But, um, yeah, as always, even though the sun is not out, we're still out working outside because we always prefer this over inside fluorescent light, um, and a very toxic environment. So grounded outside, still getting some natural light. Nothing to complain about. Yeah, I'll probably catch you tomorrow. I'll try to, to, to record as much from the race simulation as possible. It's probably going to be a bit hard, but I'll do my best. Just drink some water. It's a bit cold. Oh, grand rising. Time to start this race simulation. I'm gonna do 2K swim, 70-75-ish on the bike, and then a 15K run. Should be pretty good. We're We're one week out from Jönköping, so good way to finish off the peak volume week. And we're gonna chill this coming week. Yeah, let's go! Pretty solid conditions, a bit windy, but nothing to complain about. Could be worse. Could also be better. Could be worse. Let's do it. Rolling. Yes. Work is done. Last long brick sesh. It went good. I didn't record that much. It was Pretty hectic. Yeah, so that's my bad, but I'll throw in some clips of it. We did a 2K or almost 2.1K swim, 72 on the bike, and then a 15K run. Also, as I told you, tried some gels. Stomach didn't react or respond the best, I guess. But yeah, we'll see how that goes. Felt, felt very good, um, in general, the whole sesh. So that's a positive sign. Obviously we didn't push super, super hard, but, um, you know, still not terrible, I guess, pace or whatever, um, with the fact that we didn't like barely push like 31 or something on a bike. Yeah, I think Average speed and then 5:20 pace on the run. So you know, considered being a you know easy. I'm pretty stoked with that. So now we're gonna rest and digest and see how everything turns out and goes. Next weekend. One week out. Yeah, it's pretty surreal. Time flies when you're training. It's like, it feels like no time ago it was 4 months out and then 3 months out and then like now we're sitting here and it's getting closer. And yeah, it's pretty surreal. It's There's a lot of times where you've doubted yourself, where you've, you know, questioned your life decisions, I guess. But we've pushed through. We've done the work on— even on the days where we don't or didn't feel like it. And I'm proud of that. So work is done. Now let's rest and digest. I'm gonna end Enjoy this tomahawk, some potatoes, fuel up. Yeah, I'm very hungry. I'm craving a big juicy piece of meat. No soy, corn bullshit garbage. We eat the real stuff. One thing, just after I pressed stop, I was reflecting on some things and I thought I'd share a little life lesson that I've— I guess it's not the first time I learned this, but it's like a reiteration of this. And just to give a bit of a context or some 2 months ago, um, not even 2 months ago, like one— yeah, one month and 3 weeks ago, I ran my first 10 kilometers in probably 10 years. Um, now is that a smart way of approaching this training? No, probably not. I should be more prepared, but I just think, to be honest, running long distances It's very boring, so that's why I've been pushing it so far. But that just goes to show, you compare that to back then and then to now, where like a couple days ago I did a 10K in 45 minutes. Now, is that completely crazy? No, probably not. But, um, also being able to run 30K this past Wednesday, no problem whatsoever, very, very easy pace. And that just goes to show that You can achieve so much in such a short amount of time if you have the right mindset and the right mentality and the right, I guess, work ethic and just put your head down and execute. I know so many people that are, you know, running and they train for a marathon for 2 years and they like just walk around in circles. They don't have any intuition and intention behind what they're doing and they never move the needle. little closer to their goal. And then I kind of just cross-reference that to myself and what I'm achieving in such a short amount of time. And like, yeah, it just— it's just, I guess the point I'm trying to prove is just if you put your head down and work and have laser focus, tunnel vision, and just commit, you can achieve insane things in a very short amount of time. Yeah, I think that's a really good point. Very, very short amount of time. But most people don't do that, I guess. They half-ass everything and end up being stuck, end up not going, getting closer to their goal, their end destination. And that's a lesson I wish someone had told me earlier as well. Like, if you just put your head down and do what's required of you and execute, you're gonna achieve Insane things in a very short amount of time, shorter than you probably think. But it requires work. Doing hard things is always going to be hard, it's never going to be easy. But yeah, just a little thought I had. So some of you might, you know, need to hear that. Put your head down, execute, take action, do what's required every single day, day in, day out, and you will Achieve crazy things in a very short amount of time. Now I gotta take the tomahawks off the grill before they get well done. That's not a good thing. So, ciao! Final product. Perfect. Tomat potatoes tomatoes. Let's tuck in. Let's dig in. A couple calls to finish up the night, then... Sleep. We're done for today and officially going into the week of the first Ironman 70.3. Excited. Let's go see what happens. Also, if no one of you is aware, it's pretty crazy. It's like it's 9 PM in Sweden and as you can see Outside, if you can see, let me delete this. It's still like daylight outside, which is pretty crazy. It is like this during summers, but then during the winters it's pitch black all day long instead. So everything comes with a price, but it's pretty crazy. It's almost a bit bright outside 24/7 during summer. Some of you probably didn't know. Yeah, waiting for Landon to jump on. A couple calls, a couple check-ins, then we're gonna hit the pillow, get some good rest, and then the final week, the final couple days starts. My man, how up with me, bro? How are we? How have we been doing? How's everything going? Things have been going well, man. Um, honestly, been stoked with results. Uh, uh, been, been working hard at just Sticking to the meal plan and working out, and honestly, results have been pretty fun as well. I'll have to— I think I've been sending a couple pictures, but I'll have to send you a couple in the chat. Okay guys, Lucas from the future here. I'm sitting here editing the video and realized that there's one very important thing that I haven't mentioned, and that is that I have a sh— unfortunately, a shit ton documented training-wise. Before this first week, but procrastinating putting that together, I guess, is the honest answer. So that, or those videos, will come up after this. So this is like, it's gonna be kind of in reverse, whatever. This is like one week out, but then after this video, it's gonna come out the video that is like from March, April, whatever. So yeah, just wanted to let you guys know. Also, huge shout out to Landon there. I'll throw up Landon's transformations on the screen so you can see that. He's been crushing the program, so very nice to see that. Yeah, let me think if there's anything else. No, I think that's it. But yeah, sitting here just about to finalize the vid and realized that. So keep an eye out for the other videos coming as well. That's gonna be previously in the training journey and all the other months leading up to this last... 2 weeks. Weekend, I guess. So everything is documented. Just a bit of, as I said, procrastination, I guess, from my side that I haven't put that together yet. But that's a problem for tomorrow. All right, now we're gonna get this done and up, and I hope you enjoyed. Leave a like, comment, whatever, how all the other YouTubers are saying. I don't even know. Or leave a dislike if you don't like it. I don't know, I don't care.
