Lucas Wilhelm Hedenbäck argues most gym-goers waste time chasing the pump with excessive volume. Real progress means beating at least one rep from your last session. If you can't improve each set, you're not training effectively.

Most people I see have the complete wrong focus in the gym. Just doing a shit ton of volume, chasing that pump, which is completely unnecessary. There's, first of all, there's better ways of training endurance. You don't want to waste your time training endurance when you're lifting weights. Second of all, you'd be better off cutting your workouts so much shorter and focusing on quality over quantity. The only thing that you should be worried about is, am I showing up better than last time? Am I progressing every single set, every single— Every single rep. Day, every single exercise. If not, you're doing something wrong. At least one rep you should be trying to beat from last time. Are you showing up better? If not, what are you even doing there? You're wasting your time.
