Full Guide to Fixing Your Nervous System in 10 Minutes

In this 10‑minute presentation, Lucas Wilhelm Hedenbäck argues that chronic stress and a dysregulated nervous system are the primary reasons many high‑performing individuals fail to heal their gut despite meticulous dietary protocols. He explains how the body operates in two autonomic states—parasympathetic (rest‑and‑digest) and sympathetic (fight‑or‑flight)—and how prolonged sympathetic dominance reduces stomach acid, bile flow, gut motility, and tissue repair, leading to malabsorption, bloating, brain fog, and overgrowth of harmful microbes. Hedenbäck then outlines a concrete 5‑step framework to reset the nervous system: (1) eat in a calm, non‑survival mode; (2) lower overall stress load through sleep, caffeine reduction, limited training, and daily resets; (3) simplify meals to easy‑to‑digest foods; (4) align circadian rhythms with morning sunlight and evening melatonin‑friendly habits; and (5) balance training and recovery using a “stress‑budget” mindset. He reinforces each point with client anecdotes (John, Lucas) and positions his “Superhuman Protocol” coaching program as a personalized solution for entrepreneurs and high‑performers who need a full situational audit rather than generic gut protocols. The talk ends with a call‑to‑action to apply for one‑on‑one coaching and a teaser for a deeper video on chronic stress.

For years, I thought my gut problems were strictly a food problem. So I cut gluten, I cut dairy, I went low FODMAP, I tried carnivore, but none of it was the real answer I was looking for. What actually fixed it for me was fixing something almost nobody talks about when it comes to your gut, and that is your nervous system. And in the next few minutes, I'm going to show you exactly why your gut won't heal until you fix this. Even if your diet is perfect on paper, everything is dialed in, doesn't matter if this is not priority number one. So a few years ago, I was doing everything right on paper, training hard, eating clean, I'd been cutting out every food that could possibly be somewhat harmful for my gut. But I still had a fried nervous system, cortisol through the roof, and zero libido at 20 years old, which should be illegal. And a gut that cycled through bloating, brain fog, diarrhea, and constipation with no pattern I could find. So I kept asking myself as well, I'm doing everything right, so why do I still feel like this? And the more stressed I got trying to figure it out, the worse my gut got. And that spiral is exactly what then actually led me to the answer. And understanding what I'm about to show you is exactly what changed everything for me. So one of the biggest mistakes I made, and one I see in almost every client who comes to me already eating clean, is assuming that if the food is right, the gut has to heal. And it makes sense on paper, right? Good input, good outputs. But your gut isn't just a food processing machine. It's controlled by your nervous system. And if your nervous system is dysregulated, your body physically cannot digest and absorb food properly. I don't care how organic the steak is. I don't care how clean your meal is. I don't care how local the carbs are. You have to think of your gut like a restaurant kitchen. Doesn't matter how good the ingredients are if the chef is being screamed at by the manager and the whole shift and everything is rushed and mistakes happen and nothing comes out the right way. And chronic stress is the manager screaming 24/7. And this is exactly what I see in entrepreneurs and high performers eating clean, training hard, trying every gut protocol probiotic whilst their nervous system runs at full speed around the clock and their gut reflects it exactly. So now when we understand the importance, let's break down how to actually fix it. So here's the mechanism and the simple 5-step process I use to actually fix this for good. The first thing we have to understand is that your body runs on 2 nervous system states. We have parasympathetic, which is rest and digest, heal. It's where stomach acid rises, enzymes work properly, bile flows, and nutrients are getting absorbed. And the gut lining is also getting repaired. And that's the state your body needs to be in to heal. And then we have sympathetic, fight or flight, that is stress and survival. And most people today are completely stuck in the second state constantly. Notifications, work pressure, caffeine, poor sleep, blue lights, overtraining, back-to-back meetings, never a moment of of calm, and your body reads all of that as danger, and digestion is not a survival priority. So what then happens is it redirects blood flow away from your gut, stomach acid drops, your bile flow slows, and your motility slows, and the gut lining repairs slower. Now you eat a healthy meal, but your body can't process it properly. Bloating, reflux, gas, brain fog, constipation, and food sensitivities to things that never bothered you before. The food didn't change, the kitchen it walked into did. So you can eat the same exact meals in 2 different situations and get 2 completely different One eaten stressed, rushed, under screens and blue light between meetings versus the other one eaten calm and grounded, a few slow breaths before, ideally outside in the sun. And that single choice decides whether the gut can actually absorb and break down what you just handed it. But it doesn't just stop there. Because if we don't break it down and absorb it, the food, it will lead to undigested food passing through our system, which will then cause bad bacteria to overgrow and fungus and even parasites and all these things start to thrive in because they have nothing to eat. Because now you simply created an environment where those things can thrive. And if you're running a business, this hits different than it does for someone whose only stressor is how much protein they need to get done after the gym. You're not occasionally stressed, you're chronically on, always switched on, meetings back to back, decisions all day long, never a real off switch because work never stops. And that's not the same nervous system load as someone that has a 9 to 5 has. And it's definitely not fixed by the same generic gut protocol everyone else is trying. And this is also exactly why so many gut protocols fail. Long-term because you've tried probiotics, carnivore, low FODMAP, glutamine, bone broth, antimicrobials, and maybe some of it helped for a short-term, but then the symptoms came back. And here is exactly why. Because you were rebuilding your gut while your nervous system was actively tearing it down. So that's like trying to patch up small holes in a leaking bucket when the water coming in from the top is outpacing that either way. So it's completely pointless. And that's the missing piece almost nobody addresses. So now when we understand how this works, let's go into the exact 5-step framework to fix it. So first thing we need to do is to stop eating in survival mode. Sit down before meals, phone away, 5 deep breaths, ideally outside in the sun, ideally grounded if possible. This is how you're signaling safety to your body. And this alone will change your digestion completely. This will make sure that the best of the best food you're eating is actually being used properly by your body and not causing any damage. You also have to lower your total stress load. You can't remove all stress, of course, but you can stop Overstimulating yourself. Stop overtraining. 2 to 3 sessions per week is all you need. Improve your sleep, reduce caffeine dependence, get sunlight, get some resets throughout the day, take walks and resets. And I go deep on the exact protocols for auditing and lowering this inside my coaching program. So if that's something you want and you want that level of detail, there's a link in the description. You also have to simplify digestion. No hyper-restriction, of course, no crazy reset diets, no carnivore extremes. Just keep the meals simple. Protein, easy carbs, fruit, or some cooked veggies. Let the gut calm down before you hand it anything overcomplicated. Because the more ingredients we have and the more complex the meal is, the harder it is on your digestive system. And at this point, when your digestive system is a bit downregulated, we want to make sure that we make it as easy for the system to process what we give it as possible. We also have to fix our circadian rhythm. Morning sunlight regulates cortisol and improves digestion and sleep. And at night, cut blue light and stimulation so your body can actually repair because melatonin is crucial for gut repair as well. And most people crush their body's natural melatonin production by being overstimulated all day long. In the evenings, they're still in front of the screens under blue light and they're always wired. Let training and recovery work in symbiosis, not competition. 5 or 6 hard sessions, as I said, a week while already stressed just adds fuel to the fire. You have to cut unnecessary training strain and let recovery catch up. I like to think of this as a budgeting framework and this is something I brought with me from my corporate banking days. So stress creates debt, recovery loads back up with credits. Every day you already have a bunch of debt created from work, from meetings, from employees, etc., etc. And then you stack calorie deficit, cardio training on top of that, which puts you in a massive debt that no amount of credits will ever be able to pay back because you can only do so much recovery throughout the day because you only have so much time and recovering from all of those things we just mentioned would mean that you needed an extra 24 hours every single day to make up for it. Get this right, budget it properly, and bloating drops, energy stabilizes, brain fog lifts, and the food sensitivities that showed up out of nowhere starts disappearing. Not because you've removed more foods, but because the kitchen receiving them is finally under control. So stop asking what food to remove next and start asking why your body is struggling to tolerate your life in the first place. Because your gut symptoms are the messenger, not the root problem. Chase the food forever and you'll always stay stuck. John came to me after 20 years of struggling with his gut. He had seen every doctor, every practitioner, every naturopath, and every diet under the sun he had tried, and he was on the edge of giving up. But just a few weeks into actually fixing the system, everything started falling into place for him. And the first time in 2 decades, the bloating, Wasn't ruining his life. Didn't have the stomach pains every single day anymore. Then we have Lucas, a business owner who'd been training for 10+ years without seeing proper results, running on stress hormones all day long. And he was told by doctors after doctors that he had IBS without a single one of them looking at his sleep, his stress, his nervous system in correlation with each other. Now, 3 months of fixing the actual system and the results finally showed up. Not by training harder and not by dieting even harder, but by fixing the system. Because when you shift the focus from the food to the system underneath it, Stress. Stress, gut, nervous system, hormones, everything changes at once. That's exactly what happened to me, and it's exactly what's happened for hundreds of clients since who followed the exact same approach. And this is exactly why I run a full situational audit with every single client when they come in, mapping out every input, connecting every dot, instead of just handing you a pre-made PDF and a gut protocol that is standardized for everyone, because everyone's life looks different. And that was the problem that all these other practitioners that John had been seeing before— it was all standardized, boring stuff. So if you want help with this and you want that level of detail, there's a link in the description to apply for my one-to-one coaching. You're gonna have an assessment call where we're just gonna map out your situation, get an understanding of where you're at, and see if the Superhuman Protocol is the right fit for you. Just to be very clear, this is not for you if you just want a training and nutrition plan. This is for high-performing guys running demanding instances who are done not feeling as good as they know they should in their day-to-day life, and they want someone to take the decision-making off their plate. So stress is the root of most gut problems, but if you want to understand exactly why stress does this to your body and how to actually fix that, you can go watch this chronic stress video next that pops up on your screen.
