How I Accidentally Created the Superhuman Protocol

Lucas Wilhelm Hedenbäck went from depression and isolation to creating the Superhuman Protocol after joining a gym in 2021. A study on gut serotonin and artificial sweeteners led him to cut processed foods and rethink mainstream health advice. He now coaches clients using practices like sunlight, barefoot grounding, and stress management.

Vad gör du?
Let's see if we're rolling. Yes, we are. Okay, so.
I don't really have anything planned for this video. Main thing that I just wanted to kind of address is I've gotten a lot of questions recently about the Superhuman Protocol. Lucas, what is even the Superhuman Protocol? And I realized that I haven't really, like, broken it down properly. I mean, if we summarize it and compress it to its core, What it actually is, is my philosophy on health and on life in general, right? That is what it is. But how has that come up?
And how have I created this philosophy?
And in order for us to understand that, we have to understand my journey and my life. And Because everything stems from me and from how I've— yeah, my journey, I guess. So this is probably not going to be the most fun video to watch and to listen to. I'm not going to cut it or anything. I'm just going to kind of talk you through my journey and what the Superhuman Protocol is.
So once again, To understand it, we have to first understand my journey.
And it all started, I mean, if we take it all the way back, when I've been all the time during my youth, when I grew up, I was always very active. I was always out playing with friends in my neighborhood. I have a very, or had a very fortunate Upbringing. I grew up in a house surrounded by by a lot of nature and a lot of good friends and fantastic parents also with mostly good values in in my opinion. And obviously that's something that you kind of get imprinted with then from the beginning. And that's you know generally speaking values that you that you take with you as well, even though it doesn't have to be like that. Obviously you don't have to. to adapt your parents' values always. But anyways, I've taken the good values, I guess, and adopted those. And always been very active, once again, out playing around. And I had a very good upbringing. I felt amazing. I was, generally speaking, very, very healthy, not a lot of sickness. And yeah, just looking back at it, I really enjoyed it. Spent a lot of time outside once again, biking with friends in the woods, playing a lot of football or soccer as you guys in the US are calling it, and doing a lot of activities. But then a bit later on, I came into the teenage years. I started drinking a bit, started doing probably things that you, you know, you have to go through those lessons as well. But, you know, from an ideal health perspective, shouldn't do a lot of drinking, a lot of partying. And kind of lost touch with who I were. Fast forward a couple of years also, that was kind of how my whole teenage years all the way up to 18, 19, 20 even looked. A lot of partying, a lot of status, a lot of trying to be the cool guy in school. Holding this kind of status picture. And then COVID hit. That's when everything went really, really south. I obviously, with the lock-in, I started not really going out as a lot of other people, but I also started gaming a lot. I've always had this kind of, I don't want to say obsessive, but a bit of a Autistic mindset towards things. Like, if I do something, I do it 110%, and that's how it's always been. And through this period, it fell into the hands of video games, right? So I played a lot of video games and got really, really good. I've said this before, but I used to be one of the best players in Europe at Fortnite and also FIFA, and placed top 100 in Weekend League multiple times and things like this, if you know anything about those games. Played Fortnite with some of the biggest names in the space. So that was what I put all my time and effort into in that time. And at this time, I'd lost touch with all the youth activities that I used to do. I'd left partying, and the video games get in the way of those. And I quit playing football and quit all the activities. And this is where I put all my time.
In 2.
And it came to a point where I felt very, very bad. Very depressed.
To the point where I questioned if I even wanted to live anymore, right?
And what I now realize, or what I realized in the near future, was Obviously, it wasn't a surprise that I was feeling this way because I was just inside all day long in front of a screen, never having any sort of social connections outside of the video games, and eating absolute crap and garbage, drinking energy drinks, and doing all these things. And no wonder I felt absolutely terrible. And I had massive problems with my health as well. Gut problems, massive problems. And the turning point was— What was the turning point? You know, one day I've spoken about this when I got interviewed for one of the biggest newspapers here in Sweden.
But we were out, it was the summer of 2021, me and my friends.
You know, the lock-in or lockdown barriers had started to be brought down, right? A bit more freedom, or not freedom, but yeah, we were out. It was a Early summer day, 2021, and we were playing football at a local field or pitch. And one of my friends, his name is Romeo, had been working out during this whole lockdown. So he had been you know going to the gym consistently, eating very very good. And I remember seeing him on that pitch because we started to you know it was hot. We started taking our shirts off, and I was like. I was really impressed, actually. And I looked at myself, and, you know, I was the guy that was made fun of for having man boobs, and it wasn't a very beautiful look. I'll see if I can maybe throw up some pictures here of that. But that same day is when I also signed up to the gym.
One year.
No trial period, no nothing like this. I was just okay. No, once again, kind of obsessive mindset, I guess. But if I do this, I do it. I'll do it 100%. You know, there's no half-assing it. So that's what I did. And that same day, later on in the day, was also the first time I stepped into the gym.
And that was the turning point.
I went from feeling very, very depressed and bad to finally starting to like see some light at the end of the tunnel, if I put it that way. I started getting into the gym and obviously with the, once again, obsessive mindset, obviously I started doing my research. You know, if I'm going to spend time in the gym, I better be maximizing the time and the effort, right? I'm not just going to go in and half-ass it. If I go in and I spend my time there, I'm gonna become, or make sure that my time invested into it is worth it.
Oh, hey buddy. You wanna be here? Okay.
And yeah, started to do my research, and started doing all these things in order to try to once again make the most out of my time. And eventually even went out to get my certification for personal trainer, and nutritionist, and dietitian, and all these things, because I quickly found my—
found an interest in the gym also.
And I thought that, you know, this is probably something that I can do for work also, because I was like, this is pretty fun. So, that was that. But then a couple of years, I guess 2 years into it, it was also when I had gone through all these things, the certifications, and kind of the school system side of the equation.
I also quickly realized that I'm putting in all this effort, I have this obsessive mindset, I'm doing everything right, yet I'm not really getting— like, I felt better, don't get me wrong.
But I didn't feel that good. I was like, I'm relentless. I'm so dialed with inputs. This can't be the roof. It must be more scalable than this, right?
I can't, because deep down I still didn't feel the best.
Still had the kind of negative thoughts. Obviously, I've built some muscle for sure, and gotten a good amount of results in the gym, but not close to where I wanted it to be, and not close to where I think that I should have been based on the effort that I was putting in. Let's just put it that way. During this time, I was also working my corporate job at Swedbank, which is one of the biggest banks here in Sweden.
And I've always had this kind of calling for more. I've always known that, you know, I'm not gonna— I don't know how, but I'm not gonna be an employee for the rest of my life.
And yeah, same thing here. I always had these ambitions, you know, there's things popping up. I got a bit into crypto, lost a shit ton of money there, if I'm being completely honest.
But yeah, the whole thing here that I kind of realized also was that if I'm gonna get myself out of this corporate world and this corporate job, you know, I have to obviously create something, something myself. It was barely to the point where, at this point in my life, where I had like energy levels to even get my work done. And once again here, this is kind of when everything started to just like, I started to question everything. Because once again, I'm doing everything right. I'm studying these bodybuilders and a lot of these fitness influencers that has the physiques that I want and that has the bodies that I want. Because in the beginning also, I wanted to To become a bodybuilder, and that's something to to mention as well.
I wanted to become a bodybuilder. That was actually why I got into not why I got into to training, but why I took it so serious as well. Once again, back to the kind of obsessive obsessive mindset. You know, if I'm doing this, I'm I'm doing it all the way.
And I was listening to them. I was doing everything right.
Like I had the perfect training plan on paper. I had the perfect everything. I was doing everything everything everything right from an input based. Perspective when it came to training and nutrition, so I thought, obviously. And once again, started questioning it.
I'm spinning around this thought for too long, but started questioning everything. Doing everything right, doing everything according to textbook, but not feeling my best. So I intuitively thought that something is wrong still. And during this time, I also came across a study, and this is like the catalyst for everything for me.
Study, I was, I think it was doom scrolling, and then I came across a study that kind of stated that 90% of your body's serotonin is being produced in the gut. And when I read this study, everything clicked because it had something to do with aspartame and sucralose and artificial sweeteners as well. And that's kind of the main takeaway from it that those things are messing up with your microbiome and serotonin levels. And everything clicked when I read that because I was like, this makes total sense.
I'm not feeling my best, my body's not producing as much serotonin as it should. That makes a lot of sense, and that also explains why I'm not feeling that good. And from that day, I completely cut everything out All the protein powders I was eating, all the artificial sweeteners, everything, and just started to clean everything up. Because my only—
the only thing that I wanted at this point also was to just feel good. I didn't even care about building more muscle.
My kind of initial goal of becoming a bodybuilder had shifted towards, I just want to feel good, I just want to have more energy, I just want to have high libido, as a 20-year-old guy should have.
And I just want to be able to enjoy my kind of present day-to-day life without energy crashes, without brain fog, without all these things, and be able to work and actually be able to do it good, right? And not being limited by my health. And you've heard me say this before, but funny enough, when I shifted this complete focus, I accepted— first of all, I accepted that I'm most likely not going to build as much muscle right now because I'm not going to have the perfect diet.
I'm not gonna eat all the chicken and rice. I'm not gonna have the protein powder after the workout. I'm not gonna have all these things and the energy drinks and the pre-workouts. But I'm fine with that, you know. That's not what I want anymore. Yeah, that would be cool, but a very ripped body and a crazy physique is cool, but if you're feeling absolute shit, well, it's all for nothing. And once again, funny enough, when we— when I made this switch, everything changed also from a from a body composition perspective, when I detached myself from the outcome and started focusing on these inputs, in no time I attracted the physique that I actually had wanted, had been wanting all the time. And that was also very, very interesting for me because then I realized that, you know, okay, now I've been cutting everything out, I've been cleaning everything up. My physique started to improve when I didn't even want that to be the case. And all this time I had been absolutely putting everything in, just trying to crack the puzzle and just like, why? Why am I not getting to where I want? And then I shift my focus, boom, came.
So, when that kind of first win hit, I also then obviously started to question everything else, you know?
And started to realize that, well, this is a very scalable thing. If I get this amount of results just by fixing this one thing with the food, What else is there to unlock and learn? And obviously this food thing, you've had all these— I used to listen to all these fitness guys, oh, you can drink Coke Zero. It's the aspartame, you need 200 cans a day in order to—
for it to be dangerous, and it's as much blah blah blah as in an orange, or whatever these idiots say.
So I used to be that guy, right? I used to be like the guy that just, no, you can eat that, whatever, it's not going to happen, nothing is going to happen. But then obviously I put it to practice and then realized like, well, I don't need someone to tell me what's right or wrong. I obviously feel it myself. And then I started to think, okay, so this is one thing that I've just completely shifted my own belief in right now. What other common beliefs that someone is pushing towards me am I kind of stuck with right now? One of those being consuming a lot of meat as well, sunlight, were 2 of the biggest ones for me, where I was like, okay, we're told to not eat too much meat because that will give you cancer. So that was the first thing also that I was just like, okay, let me actually look into this, because meat is obviously one of the most nutrient-dense things on the planet. And, you know, Maybe there's there's a reason why why it's being demonized and why it's being demonized to be to cause environmental issues and and blah blah blah blah blah. And yeah, this kind of questioning towards thing is where the snowball effect started to to happen.
Started questioning everything. Same thing with the sun. Okay, how come the the life force for everything on this planet be so demonized and and be so dangerous and be stated to be so cancer-causing. Can that actually be true? Stop using sunscreen and started spending a lot of time out in the sun and kind of, you know, whenever I get the chance, realize that this makes me feel so damn good.
If we take another example now, just because it comes to mind, grounding is one of these things that is also very woo, and people are looking at it like you're some tinfoil hat for Walking barefoot, and you know one of the things that is happening right now is in the U.S. and in Europe as well.
It's stated to be one of the worst tick seasons ever.
Lyme disease and all these problems that comes with ticks, and suddenly a couple weeks ago, one of the biggest big pharma companies released a new vaccine for Lyme disease that is gonna prevent everyone from getting this disease.
And now all of a sudden it's going to be the craziest tick season. Common sense. 1+ 1= 2. In most equations at least. And same thing here. Just starting to kind of question all these things.
Okay, so we are so scared of ticks to the point where we don't want to walk barefoot. And we're so scared of this Lyme disease or whatever other problem you can get from this. Who has told us this and kind of fearmongered us away from walking barefoot on earth? And then you start to look at all these things and kind of realize that like there's probably a reason why they don't want us to eat meat and why they don't want us to literally touch grass, which is like it's insane when you say it, but it's because those things are what truly fuels you and makes you healthy, right? Obviously those are two core foundations, but there's shit ton more to the equation here. But These are all things that I started questioning and started getting into. I just have to double-check the timer here. Okay, 20 minutes.
I don't want to make this too long for you. But yeah, long story short, I started questioning everything, using myself as a scientific experiment.
I stopped listening to what other people said and like, okay, I'm gonna put this to practice myself and kind of To see how I feel, and I'll apply the scientific method. You know, I have a hypothesis. I have something that I that I think I'm gonna achieve by doing this, and then I control the variables, and then I see how I feel. Right? This is how it all began for me. Obsessive mindset, I guess once again.
And this is where the the start of the superhuman protocol. This is where it all started.
And this was then early 2023, I think, when when I really started getting into all these things. And then later on that year, obviously, when when My energy just like became so much better. I felt so much, so much better. I had a crazy physique from nowhere without even wanting it. And I had been kind of doing all these things for just such a short amount of time, like not even half a year, like a couple months early. Or like, let's say March 2023 is when I really dig deep into all these things. And then summer 2023, I was looking insane and felt amazing. And then I started obviously having more energy, came back to this kind of ambition of not wanting a job and wanting to do my own thing. I wanted to start a clothing brand.
Right.
And then my whole thought was, okay, let me start posting some content. Let me start documenting my life and my training and all these things in order to make that as the marketing vehicle for my clothing brand. And when I then started posting all these things, I did 75 Hard, started in August 2023.
I started getting a lot of questions and interest in my philosophy on training and nutrition and people started like, whoa, what is this? Like, how are you eating?
Why are you doing this and that?
You're cold plunging, you're walking barefoot, like, you know. And eventually it also came to the point where obviously I had my PT certificate in the baggage here, dietitian certificate, and people started asking me to, you know, coach them. You know, I'm interested in this, I want to apply the same principles and philosophies. How can we get started? And that's where it all began. And I was like, well, this is amazing. Then I can use the coaching to, or the money that I make from that, to fund the clothing brand.
This was a perfect little starting for me in that journey, because obviously it's super, super expensive to buy samples and buy big batches and all these things. So I was just You know, perfect. Let's let's do it. Let's take some clients. I know I can do it. Obviously, I've worked with.
I'm a certified personal trainer. I know how training works. I know I've done all these things myself.
And yeah, I worked at the gym. Just get up. Kom, Siv.
Kom. Här. Kom. Lägg dig ner.
Lägg dig ner.
Sitt. Sitt. Sitt. Lägg dig. Lägg dig. Siv, här. Lägg dig. Lägg dig. Lägg dig. Sitt. Lägg dig. Sitt. Sitt. Sitt. Nej. Sitt. Sätt dig ner. Bort.
All these animals. Anyways, where were we? Well, yeah, and then I started coaching, and very quickly, I, you know, obviously my passion has always been here in health and all these things, so I started my business, I quit my job, and here is kind of where I fell into my second trap with all these things, because yes, I had the foundations in place, but now I suddenly had a shit ton of stress on my table as well, starting my business, quitting my job. financial pressure, all these things. And I started to let loose of all the habits. And I thought, you know, I've already made it to this point. Now I don't have to put in the work anymore, kind of mindset, which became very problematic because this left me with a lot of health issues as well. Early 2024, first thing that happened is that I got massive gut problems from nowhere. Just one day after eating some dairy, it was like I can't even describe the pain. I had to lay in my bed, couldn't do anything, and I was like, what is this? What just happened? Later on, I didn't test, but I'm 100% sure I had small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, SIBO, right? What I didn't realize is that, you know, you're You're not bulletproof just like that.
Sluta. Min milk.
Shit, they want the raw milk. Yeah, and I got massive problems, you know, due to stress and due to problems with my gut health, and that also kind of left me getting a bit worse physique, which never was the point really, but like my health went, went a bit south. And that was also when I kind of had to do the extreme deep dive into these things, because yeah, I, I'd been knowing about gut health before and you shouldn't eat artificial sweeteners and whatnot, but now I was standing here with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and massive gut problems. How do I solve this? Started realizing that, you know, stress is a big variable here, and also kind of realized that, you know, my inputs are the same, but suddenly my physique became worse, and I feel worse. And it's like, okay, it's not just about what you eat, it's about what you absorb that matters as well, which is kind of one of the major statements that I always Talk about as well, and yeah. So it so that happened.
Where are we at right now? Okay.
See, I got some massive problems again early 2024, but this is kind of once again where the superhuman protocol had all been.
started, and, you know, my philosophy had already been kind of put out there, but I, I made a mistake of, of not sticking to the core principles that I, that I had adopted and those habits.
And that was also then the lesson that I needed in order to understand that this is not just something that you do temporarily. This is a lifestyle and an approach and things that you should always care about and things that you should always Prioritize in your life? Because health is, at the end of the day, the most important thing that we have, in my opinion.
It's the foundation for everything.
We can't enjoy our life if we're not healthy. You know, we can have all the money in the world, but if we're unhealthy, then you can't really enjoy it to its fullest, as an example. And at the end of the day, what is, what is it that you want to get out of life?
Well, for me, one of the most important things is enjoying the present moment, and it's feeling very, very good in your day-to-day life. And yeah, just enjoying life in general.
And once again, if I'm sitting here and I'm unhealthy, then I'm not going to be able to do that. So small things like this, and all those lessons and learnings, and my own journey has kind of led me then to the point where, you know, the Superhuman Protocol, what is it?
Well, it's a It's an approach to life and training and health that I follow religiously myself.
And that I think is one of the best ways to go about health in one's life. And it's a very simple approach.
Simple?
A lot of basics. Spending a lot of time outside in nature, sun, training properly, managing your stress. Doing all these things which leads you to, you know, one of the outcomes and the byproducts of that is having a very, very good physique and good health.
But once again, the physique is secondary.
It's the energy, the libido, the health, all these things that are the true things of value in my opinion. Through fixing all these problems myself, I've obviously now gone on to like to help multiple, multiple other people apply the same principles and open up this this new world of of health that leaves them with fantastic results and fixing their issues once again. I've had So many clients where I haven't really just fixed all these problems for myself. Where we've had, you know, there's a client that goes the natural room or route of doctors and functional medicine and all these things, and they get diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and IBS, all these problems. And then through applying these principles and all the learnings that I've taken with me for over the last couple of years. We fix all these things. They never have a problem anymore. Fixing their gut health, which once again, all these things are fundamental and core principles in order to, to be the healthiest version of yourself. And it's not just something that you do for a short period of time. It's literally a lifestyle and habits and things that you adopt that you should be sticking to throughout your whole life. Because once again, I've made the mistake of going like on and doing it And then stopping, and then having to pay the price for that. And the thing that happens is when you stay so religious with these things, and you're applying all these things, is that your average state of being gets so insanely elevated. So then when you get the downside and the crashes, you really see the contrast of it, which is, you know, some can argue that's a bad thing, because then you're always gonna get so affected by the negatives. Yeah. Their average state is so good, and and that usually don't happen that often. You know, let's take me as an example. I've barely been sick in the last two years. I've got some stomach bug or something, which I you know can't really do anything about that in my opinion. But besides that, I've never been this healthy. I've never felt this good. I've never had this and these energy levels every single day without fail. You know, obviously running my own business now and and. Having a lot of responsibilities there, having people on payroll, having all these things which is just working, and it wouldn't if I didn't have the principles of the superhuman protocol in place, right? I wouldn't have felt this good if I didn't do all the things that I'm doing, and a big mindset shift for me as well, and a big limiting belief that I. Fixed early on was you know you're ambitious, you're you're all these things. You you want to run a business and and achieve good things, and you know you don't have time to do all these things. The crazy thing is that all these people, and I see this in people that I speak to as well before they join, it's like they're working ten twelve plus hours, but they have massive brain fog, and they have. Shit energy throughout the whole day. And then one of the beliefs that they have is like, oh, but I don't have a lot of time because I have to work so much. Yeah, but the quality of your work right now is absolutely shit. What if we tripled the amount of quality work you can get out and get rid of all your brain fog so that you can get done in 4 hours what would otherwise take you 12? Well, then it's worth every second to invest those hours towards the habits and towards all these things. And at the end of the day, It's not like I'm doing crazy hour and hour, hour-long routines. No, it's simply just a couple core habits and having a very structured and systematized way of approaching life. I have my non-negotiables that I always do that are like changing underwear, that doesn't take any time. And I manage everything. If I have a higher stress load one week, I'll train less. I'll adjust. If I have less stress a week, well then my stress budget is is more available to to put to to be put towards training and these things. Maybe I can train a bit more, right? It's about making smart decisions and always staying on top of these things and managing them and sticking to your core habits always without fail. And this is kind of the Backstory behind the Superhuman Protocol, which once again is my approach and principle, philosophy to life. Questioning everything, putting things into practice myself. Seeing the results not just in myself but in hundreds of hundreds of clients as well, and really getting the proof that this stuff works. And once again, I don't need someone telling me, I don't need a study to prove that this is good, this is bad, something like this. I've seen it with my own eyes. I've seen it now for hundreds of hundreds of people as well.
And I think that that's right now where the value lives as well.
I have an approach, a system to health that I know works, because everyone that gets in and applies this and actually puts in the work and does the right thing and implements the systems, I see it firsthand, but they become another person. They become a completely different person. They get healthier. They fix all their shit. And it's crazy what you can accomplish when you actually let your body heal, right? People always look for the surface-level solutions, but if you haven't fixed the foundation, those things are worthless.
And that is That is it.
That is the Superhuman Protocol, my coaching program, and at the core, approach to life. So I hope this took you through some of, yeah, some of the questions that you may have had. And yeah, I'll probably throw some pictures up of some of the guys that I've worked with once again. And if you're interested in applying this yourself and doing it yourself, then you can always check out the first link in the description. It's gonna be to have a quick call with me or my right-hand man, Anton, to see if the Supremacy Protocol could be something for you. So I hope you enjoy this little sit walkthrough, getting distracted by dog and cat here. And yeah, no, I think it's good. Probably make a second part of this as well, deep diving a bit. But that's that's the journey. That's the backstory. And I'm gonna spend some time with these fellas. Thanks for watching. I'll see you in the next one. Peace out.
