How This Founder Fixed 10 Years of Gut Issues in 90 Days.

In this interview, tech founder Lucas Medal shares his ten‑year battle with IBS and the myriad diets (vegan, carnivore, keto, gluten‑free) that failed to resolve his chronic bloating, low energy, and mood swings. After following Lucas Wilhelm Hedenbäck’s holistic gut‑reset protocol— which combines stress regulation, blue‑light reduction, consistent sleep, targeted hydration, collagen supplementation, bone‑broth meals, and a simplified low‑fodmap diet— Lucas reports dramatic improvements within three months. He describes an immediate calming of his nervous system (within two weeks) and a slower, but steady, gut healing process that has eliminated regular bloating, increased daily energy, sharpened mental clarity, and restored confidence in eating diverse foods. Throughout the conversation he emphasizes viewing the body as an integrated system, the importance of personalized “non‑negotiable” levers (e.g., blue‑light management, bone broth), and the need for a six‑month committed effort to achieve lasting change. The interview concludes with practical advice for other busy entrepreneurs: focus on systemic health, be patient, and tailor the protocol to one’s own lifestyle.

I've had like gut problems for at least 10 years. I think they call it IBS. I tried everything I did. I was a vegan for a year. I was carnivore for a couple of months. I was keto for 6 months. I, I was gluten-free for like 6 months, but nothing solved it. I've been working out for like 9 years, never really seen like the results I wanted. As a founder, I go through a lot of stress. I said to myself, I want a challenge. Uh, let's do it. And I started doing the protocol and yeah. It was insane to me because I realized like, wow, like this is what proper digestion feels like, which is you just have so much energy. You have no bloating, incredible clarity throughout the day, like very controlled stress. That's the thing. Uh, there's, I have no bloating anymore. I haven't had bloating. I think I had one day of bloating in the past. 2 months, but it was like a little, and I know exactly why. I feel like just having this consistency and having good mood and having good energy just because your body is not inflamed is incredible. It's incredible. It's life-changing. Nobody should be bloated. That's not a normal thing. That's the thing. That's not normal. That's what I tell everyone. Like, it's not normal to be bloated. Just fix that.
In this call, I'm sitting down with Mr. Lucas Medal, a tech startup founder from South America that is currently living in San Francisco. When Lucas joined the protocol, he had been dealing with his gut and had gut issues for the last 10 years. He had been trying a bunch of different things. He had been training for 9 years without really seeing the results that he felt like he deserved. He was putting in all this effort but didn't really get anything out of it. And that, as an entrepreneur, is the worst thing that you could—
that you—
the worst situation you could ever find yourself in. So Lucas came to the conclusion that I have to take a different approach. I have to look deeper than just the training and nutrition. There's something else missing. Started watching my content, starting implementing everything. And in Lucas' own words, he was a bit skeptical to actually join because he felt like he was doing all the things that I'm talking about in my content and he felt like he already implemented a lot of it but decided to take the leap of faith and now we're standing here 3 months later. Gut health is 10 times better, gut is almost, almost, almost fixed, body composition completely different and in this call we're gonna break down exactly how this happened, what we did and some really valuable lessons and takeaways from Lucas' own journey that you can hopefully take away, implement and so that you can see some results yourself. So If you're a busy guy, if you're an entrepreneur, you've been putting in the work for years without really seeing the results, you have some issues with your gut, stress, whatever it might be, listen to this. If you want my personal help, you know what to do. Check the first link in the description. Without further ado, give it up for Mr. Lucas Medall.
Good, Lucas. I just want to run through, or I'll start off with just presenting you, I guess, and then, or I'll let you present yourself and kind of just tell who you are and then, yeah, just some general questions. Obviously, I just want— don't really want you to, to be prepared or anything for this, just like straight, honest, uh, opinion about everything and kind of how everything's been. And then, yeah, let's, uh, yeah, and we'll just let it flow. So I guess first of all, Lucas, please, uh, introduce yourself. Who am I here with? Who is Lucas Medal?
Hi, I'm Lucas. I'm from Paraguay. I live in San Francisco and I'm a founder of a tech startup. Yes, that's good.
Good.
And Lukas, before diving straight into it, where were you at when we started working together? I guess I can't recall exactly when it was. I think it was mid-March, right? Where were you at in your life? How was everything looking? Tell me.
Yeah, um, so I've been basically— I was 30, I'm 30, so I was work— I've been working out for like 9 years. Um, pretty— I mean, I'm satisfied with the habits that I built around like exercise and, and food, etc., but never really seen like the results I wanted, um, or like the consistency in how I felt. And my energy, my mood. I've had like gut problems for at least 10 years, I think. They call it IBS because they don't know how to call it. But it's like, oh, you have bloating. Oh, you like whatever, constipated. Oh, you— and it's just like I could never maintain like just a normal stable state. Maybe I had like one good month and one bad month. Or like three bad months and two good months, and I never really knew how to do it. I tried everything I did. I was a vegan for a year. I was carnivore for a couple of months. I was keto for six months. I I was gluten free for like six months too, and everything kind of helped, but nothing solved it. And so. I came across, uh, I was following Lucas's content for like a year, and last year I was already adopting a few things, uh, this whole like lifestyle movement, like the sun and sauna and, uh, eating more meat-based and, uh, all these types of foods. And, and I had a— I felt great like last year, but then this year again I'm falling back and I'm like, fuck, like I need to I just want to fix this. I just want to fix this because, and I'm gonna, I want to try it. I want to, I want to like really, really apply myself for 6 months. I came across a video on, I think it was on stress or something. Yeah. And as a founder, I go through a lot of stress, right? It's a lot of expectations from funds, from My company, and I said to myself, I want a challenge, uh, let's do it. And I started doing like the protocol, and yeah, that's basically how I got into the, into the system, into a program. Yeah, yeah.
I think one of the, one of the objections you had a bit in the, in the beginning as well, Lucas, was like, I'm already doing, doing all a lot of the things, I'm already, I'm already implementing this and, and, uh, and everything. If you, uh, that Lucas that was like a bit just like, uh, you know, hesitated, ah shit, is this really gonna be, you know, game-changing, whatever, what would you say to, to that person? Because I, I'm, I'm sure there's a lot of people feeling exactly the same way. It's like, it feels like you're doing everything, but something is, is, you know, is not clicking. What would you say to that, uh, to that Lucas and then to also that person?
I would say like the body's a system, right? I think that's one of the biggest things I learned, and it's really important to have it run well. And you don't know how much damage you've done to it in years of whatever— stress, anxiety. Uh, bad food, processed food. Like, these small things accumulate over time and they just wreck your system. And it takes— it really does take like a— it can seem extreme to say like, oh, you gotta do all of this and every day and stuff, but in a way you're resetting your system. And it sounds— you won't find it in any article and stuff because that's all paid for, but It does work. Like, you just have to trust the process. It takes time, and I'm still not there. I'm 3 months in, and I'm getting better. It's like a roller coaster, right? Like, uh, but it's trending upward. And just, yeah, I mean, you just have to trust that giving your body and your mind the space to actually recover and reset Makes a huge difference.
Yeah, I think one of the things you said, I think you shared it with the group the other week, is was like years of obviously all your let's say issues or symptoms. Obviously, it's pretty clear what it stems from in your in your situation. You know, a lot of hard work, a lot of just stress over the over the years, and whatever it might be leading to the point where that completely has kind of destroyed your. Motility and your gut, right? And obviously this is kind of the, the big belief that I think you realize as well, Lucas, is like the training and nutrition— well, if the system isn't really working, then, then I'm like, it's almost like you're doing that work all for nothing because, yeah, it's not really going to yield anything.
Uh, you have 100%—
yeah, you have to focus on the, on the, like, on the root, and then the surface level things will actually start to, to, you know, yield, yield something.
Yeah, yeah. And I always felt this because I'm like, why do I apply myself so much in the gym and I eat so well, but I have like a few friends that do like half what I do and look way better, right?
Yeah.
And you can say like, no, it's genetics. It is in a way, it is kind of genetics, but not only like muscle building genetics, it's like their system is just working way better. Like, they're, they're way— they're less stressed and they can digest better and they can just use the one gym session they, they make versus my 3. It's just way more effective, uh, for them. I think that, that really started, um, making sense to me. And even when, when I was When I was doing my gut reset, and I was just eating rice and and eggs and chicken and like meat and like fats, just that it was insane to me because I realized like wow, like this is what proper digestion feels like, which is you just have so much energy, you have no bloating, you have. Incredible clarity throughout the day, like very controlled stress. And that's just— then the gut starts working properly and you can tolerate— like I had Indian food yesterday. It was scary, but my friend was here for dinner and he was like, oh, I want to eat Indian food. I'm like, all day I was thinking like, Wow, I'm really gonna eat Indian food. And it's been like two months since my since I started this whole God reset thing. But I was like, okay, like I have to do it. Like I have to confront this. I've already been introducing most foods, and today I woke up feeling perfectly fine. And I didn't hold off yesterday. I ate everything. I ate the naan bread. I ate the I ate. The sauces, the curries, the rice—I ate everything, and I enjoyed it. Yeah.
What would if we put that into into the the contrast? What do you think would have happened two months ago if you did that, Lucas? That's the thing.
There was no there was no stability. Maybe fine. Maybe it was like fuck. Like I would. Be have like stomach cramps or a lot of bloating today and would feel like super heavy. Like when I woke up, I felt— I didn't feel heavy today when I woke up. It seemed amazing. But that's the thing, that's how you learn how to manage your body. Today I'm not gonna have Indian, Mexican, Thai food. I'm just gonna have simple meals, right? Yeah, because you have to give your system A break. You can't just hammer it with difficult to digest foods. So I'm just gonna have like my simple meals and I'll be fine. 100%.
I think we've come to a point right now where you've basically almost not reached the end destination. Obviously, it's always a journey, but like we've we've been able to build up the resilience, which is what it's all about. You know, we shouldn't have to. to let our gut decide our life. You know, if you want to go out and have an Indian or Indian food, you should be able to, right? Because your gut should be resilient enough to the point where you can handle it, right? That's the ultimate goal. And yeah, no, I think that's good. In your own words, Lucas, what would you say we've been able to achieve in this timeframe so far?
I think A lot of learning around— I think my biggest learning has been around how to control or like be much more aware about my system and when I'm stressed and that's damaging me, and when I'm not, when I'm putting too much stress to my digestive system or When I'm, um, putting too much stress to my nervous system and that's affecting my body and my health. I think that just learning to be much more aware of how I am, how I feel, maybe 2 days can pass and I'm like, damn, like take a step back. breathe a little, like get back to it, right? I think that's, it's about it. It's not about living like a monk. It's about understanding your life and, and, and like building around it, right? And I think that now it's, it's been like 3 months. I think now is a moment where I can tolerate most foods again. Um, I've learned how I respond to training, to different stressors. I think like now is a moment where now we start rebuilding with a good baseline, right? I think that's what I've learned so far, just to be more conscious about my own state and what affects me, what doesn't.
100%. And how would you, how would you say that your gut is right now compared to when we started?
I think it's way better, but I do believe that it's a process, right? Like, in— I think the 6 months is— now I understand, like, the 6 months is necessary because It's the body doesn't regenerate in one day and life happens. Maybe if I was in a laboratory, right, just like getting fed food and whatever, maybe I would recover much faster. But I had to move cities, I had traveling, I had whatever, and it's not optimal. And so sometimes you just got to give it time. It's not going to be perfect. And so I think that it's way better. I think that it's just much more predictable. That's the thing. There's— I have no bloating anymore. I haven't had bloating. I think I had one day of bloating in the past 2 months, but it was like a little, and I know exactly why, but it was just like gone in nothing. And Yeah, and now it's— I've been putting these like strong stimulus these past couple weeks, and it's been, it's been holding up well. It's been holding up really well. Um, that's, that's nice.
How has, uh, if we compare— I don't know if you, if you can recall, Lucas, but how often would you say that bloating, you know, like constipation, loose stool?
Every week. Yeah.
Yeah, before.
Every week. Every week. It depends. Sometimes it was streaks. It was very streaky. But it was like, it was just a part of life. Just a part of life. I thought like, no, like, I have gases. Like, that's normal because I'm eating protein. You know, that's what they say. Oh, you're eating too much protein. That's why you have gases. And now I eat A pound of meat, 6 eggs, yogurt every day, and I don't have gases. That was not normal. That was right. Yeah. And people say, oh, I started drinking protein powder, it's too much protein, you have gases. And then you have gases because you're drinking that shit. Like, yeah.
What the— how fast did you feel like things changed for you, Lucas, as well? just get some time perspective for the listeners as well.
Well, I think my journey was, I mean, the nervous system immediately, like in 2 weeks I was already completely regulated in a way, but the gut, it takes time. The gut takes time. It's— you have to self-experiment a bit. Uh, like our calls, our messages, we thought it was something, we thought it was another, and then we started just like bouncing, um, feedback with each other and how it felt. And but the nervous system thing was immediate. That's something that very easily you can fix. in like a week, I think. I mean, unless you're fucking wrecked, right? But like a normal person, I think in a week they can start like regulating that pretty easily. And that just starts, I think, uh, cascading into everything else. And, um, my gut now, I feel like it's Actually, I can see a huge difference. Yeah, I just feel much more confident going into meals, going into daily life. Like I'm not as worried anymore, but I'm still taking it easy. I can't say I'm 100%. Like I'm still trying to be like much more careful and stuff. Like I'm not gonna correct. Yeah.
I think it's, uh, that's the thing with healing as well. Obviously it takes time, first of all, but it's also— there's always— how we work, obviously, I think you said it perfectly there, Lucas, but it's always like we have to start connecting the dots based on symptoms, based on everything, and then we can kind of, you know, diagnose. It's never like, oh, you have this issue, it's this, you know. No, we have to look at the whole picture, we have to look at everything, we have to understand what's going on here, what happens, and then it's just like a constant feedback loop. Okay, let's try this, let's see what happens. It's, um, whatever. And then just take the feedback and then, you know, reiterate. So, um, yeah. That's the process. What have you felt like, Lucas, is the, is the most valuable thing, uh, in, in working with me so far?
I feel like paying attention to things that nobody tells you you should pay attention to, right? So it can seem like, like, like magic to say like, oh, blue light is bad for you. Most people, you tell them blue light is bad for them and they'll look at you like crazy.
Yeah.
And it's like, no, blue light is actually a big stressor. And if you just regulate that, you will sleep better and your life will improve. Just get a floor lamp instead of a roof light and you'll see your life how it will change. Literally. Yeah. Um, I think that's one of them. The other one is just like, I feel like everybody fixate so much on what you eat and what you— like the macros and what you train. But I feel like with you, I've been focusing way more on hydration and stress and collagen and stuff like that. I feel like it's way more conducive to health. than saying I'm gonna eat 200 grams of protein and 300 grams of carbs and I'm gonna lift all this weight.
Yeah.
And in the end, like, it depends on what you want to be. Do you want to be a bodybuilder or do you want to be like a strong, healthy human? And I think that I fall in the latter bucket. Like, these bodybuilders are bloated all day, they have horrible lives. Like, I don't want to be that. And I feel like fitness content the web for the past 20 years has been just bodybuilders, right? But no, no normal people like, I want to feel good, right?
Yeah.
And I just want to feel good. I have a stressful life. I have a family, a job. I have kids. I have a dog. I have a lot of time. I have ambition. I have to travel. Like, How do I make it work where I can feel well? And then eventually, like, what I feel would happen is like, you give us all these tools, but like you told me, like, you have to find what's the biggest leverage to you, right? Maybe for one guy it's, uh, I don't know, meditation. That's the biggest thing for, for them. I meditate. I love to meditate, but Maybe for me it's like, uh, oh, bone broth changed my life. 2 times a day with warm— with meals. And like, just find the things that are non-negotiable to you, and then you apply the other things, uh, more sparingly. But I think, yeah, that's, that's the biggest thing for me. It's just opening my eyes to Just someone that actually speaks to building a strong system and overall health and well-being, and speaking to like something that resonates a lot to me, which is like our modern life, which is just really bad for us. Like ideally we all have your life, right? Living in the countryside in Sweden, like, but I can't. So how do I, how do I make the best out of my current situation?
Yeah, controlling what you can always. Yeah, not focusing on what we can't control. I think that's good. Uh, last, last question for you, Lucas. How has, how is fixing your bloating, fixing your gut, improving your energy levels improved your life? Not just like from a health perspective, but outside of, uh, outside of health and fitness as well.
When you're bloated, you're moody and you're tired because your body's— it's like you put— it's like, I don't know, it's like if you put vinegar on your car, like, I don't know, instead of good gasoline, or it just won't work well. And so I feel like just having this Consistency in having good mood and having good energy just because your body is not inflamed is incredible. It's incredible. It's life-changing. Nobody should be bloated. That's not a normal thing. That's the thing. That's not normal. That's what I tell everyone. It's not normal to be bloated. Just fix that.
Yeah, I think that's, uh, that's good. And, um, Lucas, if someone is on the, on the fence, uh, about, about joining, maybe they're in the same situation as you. You know, they've been looking through a lot of my, my content, they've been implementing a lot of stuff, but they still can't seem to figure, figure out that last, the last piece of the puzzle to, to get rid of their get rid of their shit, whether that be gut, whether it be stress, whatever it might be. What would you say to, to that person, uh, as well?
I say that if you have to commit to something for 6 months that can change your life for the better, do it. And I think there's a lot of value in, like, like I said before, like, everybody's different, everybody's life is different. Like, how do you make it work for that person. Because it's, it's impossible to apply everything that you say in your videos, right? It's impossible. Like, you give us tools and then we accommodate it, accommodate them in our lives. And I think people have to go through this. Like, for example, I— the first month I thought, oh wow, I'm doing great. And then it uncovered All these other hidden things, which was way deeper, way worse, way more systemic, way more chronic. Like, my gut was way worse than we initially thought, and that makes perfect sense thinking about it, like my past 10 years. And you just have to go through it. There is no shortcut. There is no— Dopamine hit of, I saw a Lucas video and I'm gonna start doing this for 2 weeks. Like, no, commit to 6 months and you'll see, because it's not that simple, but it's worth it. That's good.
All right, appreciate it, Lucas. Appreciate it for jumping on and speaking a bit about the journey so far. Obviously, we're just halfway there. We have a fun time ahead of us as well. But yeah, no, it's been great to see your journey so far, and it's just the beginning for us. And yeah, thanks for all of you guys watching. Hope you got some insights and values from Lukas, and hope it cleared up some potential questions that you had. So yeah, once again, I appreciate it, Lukas. Thanks.
Thanks, man. Have a great day.
