I Thought Success Would Make Me Happy

In this reflective monologue, entrepreneur Lucas Wilhelm Hedenbäck shares a candid account of his personal evolution from chasing material and financial milestones to prioritizing health, family, and day‑to‑day wellbeing. He recounts a recent conversation with his friend Ludvig that sparked a deeper examination of why many entrepreneurs experience a mid‑career transition when their initial goals no longer satisfy them. Lucas critiques the pervasive "grind" culture, explaining how relentless work harms hormonal, gut, and nervous‑system health, ultimately reducing productivity. He argues that money is a tool that can enable freedom and experiences, but it should not eclipse relationships, health, or present‑moment joy. Drawing on his Ironman training as a metaphor, he emphasizes that the journey—not the destination—creates lasting fulfillment. Lucas outlines his long‑term vision of building a farm for retreats, illustrating how aligning health and business can lift both. He also discusses how speaking his truth attracts like‑minded clients who share his values. The video serves both as personal documentation and guidance for entrepreneurs seeking a balanced, purpose‑driven life.

I think there's a very interesting point in every entrepreneur's journey when they realize that their initial goal, the thing that was driving them to get into their whatever venture it might have been in the first place, is no longer serving them. And then you have this sort of transition phase where you're a bit lost and you're kind of like having to dig deeper to really find What your true values is and what you actually want out of life. And for a lot of people, the initial goal that they always chase is something financial, right? Whether that's being— or it's materialistic, it's watches, cars, sort of financial goals and milestones and materialistic things, right? Or it might be locational freedom, or it might be whatever, right? But then they realize when they've maybe got that first sort of materialistic thing that, okay, what now? And this is exactly the situation I found myself in as well. I would sit here and lie if I said that I've been, you know, God's wonder child ever since birth and that I've always been perfect and whatnot. No, of course I had Or I had materialistic drivers when I got into starting my business and whatnot. Yeah, I wanted to make a lot of money. Not for the wrong reasons, but looking at it now, for the wrong reasons. And me and my best friend Ludvig had a very interesting conversation about this yesterday. And that's why I just wanted to sit down and kind of share the things that we talked about. Because I think it's Or hopefully some of you can probably relate, right? This is a pretty boring video, probably gonna get barely any views. And some of you might have clicked in and, you know, it's like, oh, well, what is this? I don't want to hear this. So please click off. I'm just gonna kind of tell my thoughts and almost view this as a video for myself. You know, this is something that I'm for sure gonna look back at. So I see this also, this is very interesting because I see this also in all my clients as well. Whenever all of my clients that come in, usually very, very successful on paper from a business perspective, right? And they have very similar values to me where the number one thing that they're prioritizing right now is their health, right? And that's the only thing that they wanna fix because they've realized that, you know, I can have all the money in the bank account, but at the end of the day, money just solves money problems, right? Yeah. Once again, I would sit here and like, I hate the people that are like, oh, money doesn't matter, or money is just a tool. You know, money matters, end of story. But money only solves money problems, and that is what we have to understand. Yes, you can buy yourself time, you can buy yourself speed, and you can do a bunch of fun things that you otherwise couldn't by not having the money. And that's obviously Like, don't get me wrong, I want to make a shit ton of money in my career. But I want to do it, and this is what me and Ludvig said, I want to do it to be able to have the freedom to get into whatever venture that I want, right? I want to, once again, if you've watched my videos, you know that I want to build a big farm to host retreats. This is sort of my long-term goal and long-term venture. And the more money I can make in the short term, the quicker I can make that happen, right? So it's very relevant for me to also make a lot of money, don't get me wrong. And without money, I wouldn't be able to do that. So this is what I mean. Or if I want to start a brand, or if I want to start this thing, or if I want to do that, you know, the money and the capital is what's going to allow me to do that. So it's very relevant. End of story, right? But is it worth it if we've spent all this time getting this capital but deprioritizing our health, Not focusing on our loved ones and not focusing on caring about our relationships and keeping the people that we actually love and like nearby and happy and do fun things with them and do fun experiences and things like this, right? And one of the things that me and Ludvig sat down and talked about and reflected about is like all these people that continue to just like have the materialistics as their drivers. Even when they've already kind of ticked that first box. You know, first it's this car, and then when you've got that car, it has to be the next one, the even better one. And then you just— the spiral just continues, and it's a never-ending spiral of just more and more and more, you know, wishing that the grass is always greener on the other side, when in reality it isn't, right? And the things that actually matter are, you know, experiences. And specifically what we sat down and said is like, we'd rather spend 50K on bringing our whole family across the world to a crazy trip and a crazy experience or something like this over something materialistic every single day of the week. Every single day of the week. That is because what truly matters is your relationships and it's your loved ones and it is your families. And this is also why, you know, I've sometimes found myself Or when I started, I found myself in this thinking and overthinking about, should I move to Dubai to save on taxes? Or should I do this to not be able to be taxed as much? Or whatever it might have been. And I always come to the realization that, yeah, I might be able to save almost half of what I make by doing that. I'm not doing it for the money either way, and that's not everything. As long as I have food on my table, as long as I can live where I want and travel wherever I want, when I want, and let my— or give good experiences to my family and buy them nice things and all these things, then I don't need anything else on top of that, right? Everything else is just extra. And I think for For me it's that, but it's also health, right? Obviously I choose to live in a place like this right now because I value my health. I want to be able to have a big backyard, I want to be able to work out outside, I want to be able to sit outside and eat. And these are the things that I value more than anything else. It's worth— you could view this as I'm spending, you know, a shit ton of money every year to be able to have this, or the opportunity cost I'm missing out on by not having all those dollars in my bank account. I don't care because this is exactly what I want. And at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is your day-to-day, right? It's how you feel in the present. So I could be sitting here and arguing that that would be better for the future because I could make all my things happen quicker. But, you know, who knows if I get hit by a car tomorrow and die, you know? Then what have I like suffered for? For nothing, right? So I think a lot of people have to get out of their head and start realizing that the only thing that really matters is the present. Of course the future is relevant, of course the past is relevant, don't get me wrong. But feeling good in your day-to-day life is the most important thing. According to me. This is what I think, of course. These are my thoughts and my beliefs, right? But once again, that's why I decided to get a dog. That's why I wanted to move here specifically, as I said, is because I just want to have a An amazing day-to-day life. I want to have the best day-to-day life and I want to enjoy the journey of my entrepreneurial journey as well. Because a lot of people have this misconception and thinking that the destination is the goal. Everyone that has achieved something will always look back and say that the journey was the destination. Unless you've absolutely had a shit journey and locked in on your business and deprioritized your family and your health and all these things. Of course, then the journey will most likely have been shit. And this is also the kind of message that is being sold to a lot of entrepreneurs nowadays, that you just have to grind, grind, grind. You have to lock yourself in and you have to just put your head down and work and forget about everything else and you have to just— This is absolute bullshit and horseshit and I'm gonna explain why as well. It's because when you do all those things, first of all you're gonna absolutely nuke your health. Your hormonal health, your nervous system health, your gut health, all of these things are gonna get absolutely fucked up. Fried from you having that mindset and that kind of approach, which as a byproduct is going to mean that your energy is even worse, which is going to mean that you're getting less shit done every day, which is going to mean that you have a harder time to actually work and to focus and to do all these things, right? So it's just how every single end in sort of this equation turns out to be a negative, right? Right? Instead, in my opinion, what we should be trying to create is a day-to-day and a journey that we actually enjoy. What if health and business could be lifted up at the same time? I like to think of this as, you know, a rising tide lifts all boats. That's exactly what this is, you know. If we do things correctly, there's no reason why health and business and all sorts of areas of your life shouldn't be elevated at the same time. You don't have to bring one up and bring all the other ones down. That's not the way to do it. Me and Ludvig specifically talked about our Ironman journey as well. Of course, the actual race and reaching the finish line last year was super, super good, and that was the destination. But us looking back at it now and what we reflect on and what we, you know, say that we miss is all the early mornings, all the hard training sessions when we showed up together and we pushed each other and we did the work regardless of not feeling good. And yes, you look back at the race day, but you look back at all those hours that you put towards it, and that was the actual thing. It was never about just the destination, it was always about the journey. And this is the most important thing, right? Yeah. Having a that specific watch on your wrist, I'm saying this out of own experience, right? It's not going to change your day-to-day life that much at all. But having good a good relationship with your family, having a wonderful day-to-day life with living exactly where you want and having your days exactly how you want, like these sort of things that are going to be absolutely necessary in order to have a fulfilling. building life and actually enjoy your day-to-day life and actually have a— find yourself, or to be able to find yourself in a situation where you're actually looking forward to wake up the next morning and just get at it. And that's exactly how I feel right now. Like, I can't wait for the next day when I go— when I lay in the bed in the evening. I just want to wake up early, I want to do my things, I want to go out with my dog, I want to enjoy the sun, I want to work with all cool people that I'm working and helping them with their health and all these things. And it's I couldn't have it any better, right? Everything else on top of this is just like extra. I don't need anything else. And it's also out of that place of abundance and gratitude that I know that I will get everything, right? Because you will never get what you want out of greed as well, which is super, super important to understand. It always comes out of a place of abundance and gratitude for what you already have, right? And To spin it back, this is what I see with all clients as well. And I think this is very, very cool that I'm able to attract people that have the same values and beliefs, I guess, through my content and through me just talking here to you on the internet, right? Because most likely you're sitting here, you're watching this, and you're an entrepreneur. Maybe you might be in different stages of your career. Maybe you're You've gone through a couple of years of hard work and you've kind of found yourself not really being as dialed with your health as you would have wanted, but now you're sitting here and you're like starting to actually prioritize it and you're starting to realize that this is the most important thing. You know, all the money in the bank account don't really matter if my health is not fixed. Or you're in your early days and you're one of the lucky ones that have realized that health is one of the most important things. pretty early in your career and, you know, you've actively kind of— or starting to kind of solve because obviously prevention is the best cure always. It's always better that we're— even if you're here and not having a super severe issue, maybe preventing that from happening is one of the best things that you can do, right? So wherever you're at in your journey right now, you know, you're listening to this most likely with pretty similar beliefs and values as me, and that is centered around health. Right. You might also have gone through the same cycle as I've been with, you know, having some materialistic drivers in the first place, which I think it's a necessary thing. Because when you— for me, I can speak from my own experience— when I ticked those boxes, that was kind of when you just, okay, this didn't really give me what I was expecting. And then you really have to do some soul-searching and kind of understand what is it that actually drives me. And what is my true? What are my true values? And and that first sort of mistake is required for you to be able to get clarity on those things, 100%. So I'm super grateful that I kind of made the slips, you know, in order to get clarity on what I actually value and what I actually want out of my life. And now it's so clear for me once again. As I said, it's my health, it's my family, it's my relationships, it's being able to to. Enjoy my day-to-day life to its fullest, right? I'm being able to wake up feeling super, super energized. I'm feeling a million bucks every single day. I'm eating good food and I have no digestive issues and my stress levels is nowhere to be seen. And like, I just feel so good in my day-to-day life and that is literally all I could ever ask for and more. I'm super, super grateful for that. And I Wish everyone could feel that way. That is my— and that comes down to one of my core goals, is to be able to help as many people get to that destination as— or not destination, but get to experience their journey in that way as possible. Same principle there. I believe that a rising tide lifts all boats. So if I'm up here right Right now, I want to help everyone get to the same level. That's why I post all these videos. That's why I'm posting on my social media to bring more awareness to people and to help them with their gut issues and whatnot. You know, you might be struggling with some gut issues, whatever it might be, stress-related issues, hormonal issues. And if so, I'm making these videos for exactly you. And yeah, what else? What else do I have to say on this topic? No, but as I said, I think it's— to summarize, it's this journey every entrepreneur goes through when you have this kind of middle phase time where it's like you don't really know what you want out of life and then you get clarity on it. And that is very, very important for your life. And you have to make that kind of initial mistake. Or mistake, but it's not a mistake, but you get what I mean. And of course this is not how everyone will, or the belief or values that everyone holds, but I'm talking from my own experience and from the clients that I work with as well, because it's the same for them. And most likely because I'm able to attract people by speaking my truth and speaking my values too. And articulating that, you know, I attract like-minded people just like you as well. And yeah, it's cool how it works. And this is also obviously nothing that is like everyone online right now. It's always like whenever you're— it's not flashy and it's not getting any clicks showing a Showing that you're valuing your family and your relationships and your day-to-day life, you know. Shit from a marketing perspective, absolute horseshit, you know. What works is the crazy Lambo, the rented penthouse and leased Lambo or all this bullshit, right? That's what gets the clicks, that's what sparks emotions. This is a very boring topic, right? But I'm not after those people that has those values. I'm after the people that are valuing the same thing as me. That's the people that I want to be around. That's the people that I want to inspire. That's the people that I want to work with. And those are the people that I want to have around me. So yeah, it's also— I'm making this to just tell you that it's okay if you value those things. If you value your health, your family, your relationships. And your loved ones over all these materialistic things. Maybe you've gone through exactly the same journey as I, once again, where you had the materialistic drivers in the first place and now you're valuing other things because you've realized that that didn't really fulfill you. It didn't give you any purpose. It didn't give you any actual joy. Well, then we're on the same page, you know. And take that and execute it based on it, you know. Absolutely. Actually go and prioritize your health, actually go and prioritize all these things and take care of yourself, take care of your loved ones and— what do you say— keep good maintenance about your relationships because that's the— at the end of the day when you lay on your deathbed, you know, who's the people or what are you gonna remember? Well, for me I know that it's gonna be all the experiences that I went through, all the My good friends that I've— relationships that I've had there, and my family of course. And also looking back at it as, did I actually enjoy my life? Did I enjoy the time that I spent on this planet? And if that happened tomorrow, I could comfortably say that right now at least, obviously it's not been like this throughout my whole life, and I haven't had this clarity my whole life, but now the last period of my life, The last 2 years roughly, I would say, I've had an amazing time. And hopefully in the future I'm gonna be able to look back at it and then say that I've had a really good amount of years because I've had the luxurious— luxury of getting clarity in these things as early as I have. So That's it. As I said, no fancy, no fun dopamine-spiking video here. Just raw talk. I view this as a sort of documentation for myself that I'm gonna look back at in a couple years, and I know I'm gonna be proud looking back at it. Thanks for watching. If you're still here, probably means we're very much on the same page, so I appreciate you. Wish you all the best in your life, and I wish you all the best in your health and whatnot. And, uh, I'll see you in the next one. Probably gonna be a bit more fun than this one. Thanks for watching. Okay.
